The Backfires Create A Brilliant Spark With Brand New Single And Video “Brighter Lights”

We recently had the opportunity to check out the brand new single and video for “Brighter Lights” from transatlantic indie rockers , The BackFires . You can listen to “Brighter LightsHere and you can check out the video below .

The band is known as New York’s most promising bands, this is their first release of music since 2023.

Formed in 2018, when Alex Gomez (vocals) left New York to study in London and met Harry Ruprecht (guitar) and Max Wanduragala (drums). The three of them then returned to the states in 2019 and recruited Matt Walter (bass) before they recorded their debut EP, Consider the Backfires’ in the hazy midst’s of lockdown. In 2021 the band returned to London for a stint where they recorded singles, Blindsided and Reflections On My TV’ and are now permanently based out of New York.

Inspired by the city’s infamous nightlife, “Brighter Lights” is a raucous indie club floor filler, that combines a driving riff with hints of disco and a huge euphoric chorus.

The band says, “We wanted to make a song that sounds like New York” the band explain. “Then we got to recording and made the beginning of the track feel like you were entering a club. The song nods to the dance and club music of New York that we’ve gotten to experience in the past couple of years of living here.”

We love the feel and vibe of “Brighter Lights” , The Backfires have this familiar indie rock sound but then they reel you in with their unique approach that is both refreshing and just the right amount of low key cool

If you like the single, then you are going to love the ingenious/insane video, portraying the band involved in a complex heist with the aim of stealing a disco ball. It’s basically Reservoir Dogs meets Studio 54.

The band continues about the video saying, “The video is this ridiculous spectacle of action and excitement that’s reflective of being in the energy of New York. The bright lights of New York are intoxicating but are shrouded in superficiality. Who would carry out a heist for a disco ball, and drive away in a convertible, all to perform at a nightclub? It’s absurd.”

Do yourself a favor and check out “Brighter Lights”, from The Backfires , you will be glad you did .
