We were absolutely enthralled by the power and beauty of Yn Tynnu Fi Fel Cortyn’ (Pulling Me Like A Rope), from Breichiau Hir. There is this wonderful majestic quality about the song that we love.

Commenting on the track, front man Steffan Dafydd says: The song is about life’s inevitabilities, and the feeling that you aren’t in control of your own choices. It depicts an emotional or existential journey—one of letting go, being carried by something greater, and accepting the inevitable return to a previous state. These themes are seen across the entire album, the sense of fatalism and surrendering to some force.”

The line that opens the song is what kicked the writing process off—this powerful, captivating line that hooks you and takes you away. It felt so organic. It became this earworm we couldn’t shake, and we wanted it to be the central part of the song, the thing we always come back to. That hooking effect also inspired a lot of the lyrics, this unseen force capturing you and taking you away.”

The new single is the latest to be taken from their forthcoming second album Y Dwylo Uwchben (The Hands Above), set for release on April 11th, 2025 via Halen Records.

It follows on from lead single ‘Cuddio Tu Ôl Y Llen’ released earlier this year, and the music video for follow up single ‘Paid Trio’ (Don’t Try), which premiered with S4C’s new Welsh music and contemporary culture show Lŵp.

A special album launch show is planned for  April, 17th 2025 at legendary local venue Clwb Ifor Bach in the band’s hometown of Cardiff, and the group recently announced they will support fellow Walsh crew Goldie Lookin Chain on their Autumn 2025 UK tour dates(see below for listings).

Combining the visceral and the vulnerable, Breichiau Hir have distinguished themselves within Cardiff’s vibrant music scene with their distinctive take on Welsh-language rock music.  Their intense live shows invite catharsis through introspection and unbridled energy. Their ability to switch from explosive walls of sound to gossamer ostinato allow the band to resonate from the most intimate of venues to the festival stage.

You need to stop what you are doing and embrace the musical goodness of Yn Tynnu Fi Fel Cortyn’ (Pulling Me Like A Rope) from Breichiau Hir
