Over the last few months we have been absolutely in awe of Ana Luna, as she continuously brings her one of kinda sound to new heights with everything she releases.

About the album, Ana shares, “Many of these songs weren’t written with a project in mind. They were simply me processing what I was feeling in real time. I was experiencing big emotions while trying to look inward and understand what was behind the anger or sadness — the triggers, the perceptions I had about what happened in my relationship, and within myself. When it came time to produce the songs, I had one goal: to make them raw but cinematic. I wanted the music to feel like a movie, like your emotions, which are intangible, had suddenly become something you could touch.”

She continues, “I’ve always been told I feel things too deeply, that I’m ‘too much.’ Instead of shrinking that part of myself, I leaned into it. I made these songs deep and intense to show how powerful emotion can be when you let yourself feel it fully. They became my source of healing and understanding. While I hope they resonate with many, they’re especially for the deep feelers — the ones who look inward, who want to understand, and who find themselves in the act of feeling.”

Every song on “Tainted Silhouettes” , from Ana Luna, had us on the edge of our seat . Ana is a gifted singer-songwriter who leads with her whole heart and soul.

We loved every track, however, “Fairy Tales, “Can We Pretend We Just Met At A Bar” and “Same Page”, really caught our attention.

If we had to pick a favorite song, it would absolutely be, “Bleeding Pen” we were moved beyond words with this brilliant masterpiece.

Born in Ukraine, raised in Paris, and now based in Los Angeles, Ana Luna is a natural storyteller whose music blends cinematic grandeur with unflinching honesty. We recently had the absolute honor to check out the debut EP, “Glass Jaw”, from the extraordinary Kat Cunning. You can listen to “Glass Jaw” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here.

Kat Cunning, is an artist in every sense of the word. They have artfully crafted a true musical gem with “Glass Jaw”, that we simply can’t stop listening to. We danced , we sang …. Our music loving heart was touched beyond measure.

Kat Cunning, has delivered a five-track, cinematic and genre-bending opus that solidifies their place as one of today’s most fearless queer voices. Both anthemic and intimate, the record frames their unmistakable voice—rich, raw, and commanding—which has graced stages and cinemas around the world. Having opened for artists like LP, Verite and G Flip, their career also spans Broadway, Cirque du Soleil, TV & Film. In this bold departure from their lush, romantic early work, Glass Jaw exists in the affair between LOVE and DANGER. Capturing the raw electricity of Cunning’s stage presence with a grittier sonic palette and a masterful visual album.  

The EP’s opening track, “Sinderella” had us immediately enthralled. “Sinderella” flips fairytale tropes into a kinky, unhinged anthem of obsession—urgent, theatrical, and unforgettable. It’s also Kat’s drag debut, sung at the top of their range

The flawless vocals on “Dancer”, were positively breathtaking. With muscular production and aching vocals, it invokes the shadows of Depeche Mode and Annie Lennox while exploding into an anthem of delirious persistence. A galvanizing homage to the radical joy and resilience of the queer community, it’s not just a pop song; it’s a rallying cry. Love Lies Bleeding called- They want their theme song back. 

Our favorite track on the EP, is without question, “Pinup Boy” . Kat Cunning, is at their absolute best . Sung like a confession, this lonely ballad blooms with nostalgic harmonies and organic strings, reminding us that even in spectacle, Cunning has the instincts of a poet. Pure Perfection.

We are totally in love with the samples on “Rocket” the song sent our music loving heart into orbit.

Closing track “My Lady (Tigerlily)” is the stupid-in-love, seal of hope on the EP.  Giddy, bombastic and unabashed, it’s the button on an otherwise darker world—a reminder that queer stories can end in triumph, not tragedy, no matter how many scorpio placements you have in your chart. We’re in pop music to celebrate escapism, maximalism and radical joy, afterall.

“Glass Jaw” from the simply amazing Kat Cunning, is much more than just an EP, it is a beautiful, glorious , inspiring and important body of work that is felt long after the music has ended.

Turning pain into power and melancholy into momentum, Pieri electrifies her story with pulsing rhythms, shimmering synths, and euphoric pop hooks.

“‘Frankie’ was about rebirth and self-discovery; ‘Frankie (ON THE DANCEFLOOR)’ is about embodiment—less thinking, more feeling,” Laura explains. “It reimagines the songs as a constellation of moods, showing different sides of Frankie’s story and letting her release her inhibitions.”

Laura collaborated with LA-based producer/artist YXSH on these reimagined versions. “I’ve worked with him for so many years, and he really understands what I’m thinking,” she shares. “Remixing requires a little destruction, which was scary for me at first. But once I gave myself permission, it became fun to play with textures and moods that weren’t obvious the first time around.”

Born in São Paulo and now living in New York City, Laura Pieri has been chasing music for as long as she can remember. There was never a single moment of realization; music has simply always been part of her identity. Over the last few years, Pieri has carved a distinct path in pop, earning features in outlets like FLAUNT, Mundane Magazine, and Northern Transmissions.

A true multidisciplinary artist, Pieri approaches every project with a fully realized vision. She not only writes and performs her music, but also immerses herself in the visual world surrounding it. In 2024, she created and premiered a short film to accompany the FrankieEP.

Pieri’s work lives at the intersection of sound, story, and spectacle. With Frankie (ON THE DANCEFLOOR), Laura Pieri looks toward a future where art and empowerment collide on her own terms.

Master Synth-Pop Storyteller: Fletcher Moules Debuts AI-Powered Music Video for ‘Maybe’ as Part of His Project The New Condition

The creative force behind YouTube’s billion-view Clash of Clans cinematic universe and Netflix’s Emmy-nominated Entergalactic (starring Kid Cudi, Timothée Chalamet and more), Fletcher Moules is turning the lens inward with the release of “Maybe”, a melancholic synth-pop postcard from his music project The New Condition. The track and its accompanying music video debut Friday, September 19.

We are absolutely enthralled with the cinematic marvel and synth pop masterpiece that is “Maybe” from The New Condition.

While Moules has built a career directing blockbuster stories—from Super Bowl commercials with Liam Neeson and Christoph Waltz to co-writing Agent Elvis with Priscilla Presley—The New Condition marks a return to something deeply personal.

This is a quiet creative pull that’s been with me for 20 years,” says Moules. “Maybe was written in a very different chapter of my life. I never thought I’d share it—but it lingered, and over time, matured into something more layered, warm, and emotionally resonant.”

Built on nostalgic synths, crisp electric drums, and an unfiltered vocal performance, “Maybe” floats between joy and longing. It’s soft and strange in all the right ways—a sonic exhale for uncertain days.

Produced with mixing by Mark Saunders (The Cure, Erasure, Depeche Mode) and mastering by Matt Colton(Blur, Charli XCX, New Order), “Maybe” is a collision of memory and modernity.

The accompanying music video pushes that ethos even further—created entirely with Google’s Flow Veo3, a cutting-edge AI video tool. Using only his own photographs and licensed images as prompt material, Moules crafted a cinematic, emotionally rich visual journey for just $300 in credits.

The result? A full AI-generated video that looks and feels indistinguishable from live action—without sacrificing artistic intent or ethical responsibility.

I think of these AI tools like making an animated film,” Moules says. “To me, it proves AI can empower independent artists to tell high-end, emotionally resonant stories—if used responsibly.”

The video depicts a dreamlike drive through moments in the cycle of life: ants carrying leaves, priests with a coffin, a man sleeping beneath an overpass. The car ultimately drives off a cliff and sinks beneath the water—only for the protagonist to escape and find the embrace of a silhouetted woman. It’s poetic, surreal, and entirely AI-built.

“There aren’t too many artists creating full AI music videos like this yet,” Moules notes. “It’s a new creative frontier, and one I wanted to approach with craft and care.”

Before directing billion-view content and award-winning series, Fletcher Moules was a musician first. His teenage band Vapourware won Triple J Unearthed, played Homebake, and toured with acts like Cut Copy. With The New Condition, he’s reconnecting with that part of himself—redefining what’s possible for independent artists in 2025.

Lovina Falls’ new EP, is an enchanting dose of eclectic sounds and sororal awareness titled Would That It Were, is available for streaming release today, (Friday, September 5) . The expansive five-track record, a collection of recent singles and two new tracks, arrives a week and a day ahead of its official release party, a carnival-themed evening of sonic enchantment at Sonia in Cambridge alongside the similarly theatrical Count Zero and Gene Dante and the Future Starlets, where a limited run of CDs will be available.  

“It’s been quite a year, and like so many other people, I have been trying to figure out how to navigate the unexpected insanity,” says Forgione, the Boston-based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. “Pouring myself into this release and working with such exceptional people has given me something far more positive and productive to focus on.”

Would That It Were, is the official follow-up to 2023 debut album Calculating the Angle of Our Descent, and its tone is firmly planted in the here-and-now, with Forgione approaching life in vivid color to contrast our dystopian landscape’s increasing grayscale. “Would That It Were” instantly captivated our soul immediately. We found ourselves hanging on every word and chord.

Opening track, “Light and Low” , may simply one of the best songs we have heard all year . “Light and Low” effortlessly bounced around in our soul and we loved every minute of it.

“About The Sun” is brimming with flawless vocal brilliance from Valerie Forgione, that is unmatched.

“Who That It Were” is nineteen minutes of absolute music perfection. Lovina Falls, have take it to a whole new level and it’s positively stunning.

“Impatient For The Dream”, from Your Future Ghost, is a magnificent collection that offers powerful, vibrant and radiant indie-pop sound that leaves your music loving soul full of musical joy

The duo that is , Your Future Ghost, first met on the set, acting in the popular CW hit TV series One Tree Hill. Striking up a fast friendship and mutual creative respect, the two began collaborating musically over zoom during the pandemic.  After months of studio sessions in Austin, Texas, intermingled with lively backyard taco breaks, Your Future Ghost was born. Kate Voegele reveals the catalyst for their creative fusion, “our voices blended in a way that inspired us both to write in this unique hemisphere of a sound neither of us had ever really explored before in our solo projects.”  

The two soon performed their signature dirty indie synth pop at the internationally recognized Art Basel festival in Miami to an overwhelming response affirming their artistic direction.

Their new album Impatient for the Dream features a collection of joyful, wild and dark pop songs.  With a powerful blend of big guitars, thunderous drums, and striking synths, Your Future Ghost has crafted an album inspired by, according to Voegele, “finding the fun, the party, and the refuge in the chaos of a post-apocalyptic world.” She further shares, “This album is that friend who’s kind of a liability, has some bad tattoos and questionable ideas, but always makes every hang unforgettable.” Michael says, “This record is a truly unfiltered version of Kate and me. It’s us at a bar at 1 AM, fearless, drunk on a good time and completely out of f**cks.” 

We found ourselves instantly enthralled with “Impatient For The Dream” from Your Future Ghost, right from the first track , “Oh My Ghost” Every song was artfully full of emotion and memorable melodies.

One thing that really stands out to us on “Impatient For The Dream”, is the cinematic/ symphonic vibe of the music . The songs are so well crafted and well shaped , this is front and center on both “We’ve Got Places” and our personal favorite, “The Only One “

“Daddy’s Empire “, from Ana Luna, completely took our breath away. This track is rich with vintage-toned guitars, a melancholic piano arrangement, live drums, and a subtle undercurrent of trip-hop, “Daddy’s Empire” is one of the most instrumentally rich tracks on her forthcoming album. Ana’s signature haunting vocals and unflinching lyricism give the track its emotional weight as she explores the heartbreak of watching someone you love get in their own way.

“Daddy’s Empire” captures the ache of recognizing someone’s potential and the disappointment of realizing they’re not ready to rise to it. It’s not a song about resentment, but about the kind of burnout that comes from loving a “man child”—someone whose energy and emotional immaturity begin to quietly take a toll. “Sin Some / Lose Some”, from Soft Skies Inc, is absolute dream pop perfection. We are blissfully basking in the glorious and divine melodies of a song that has truly captured our music loving soul.

“Sin Some/Lose Some “, is the first dose of new music in 2025 from the duo of identical twin brothers and longtime musical confidants Ryan and Martin Rex, who resurfaced last fall with a pair of releases in the streaming “Sooner or Later” and a Sapphire Goss-directed video for “Your Small Army.”

“At the core, these songs explore chaos, love, darkness, beauty, and redemption,” says Ryan. “Finding meaning in the mess, and light in the shadows.”

This new single and its creative lineage traces a path around the world, taking Ryan from Massachusetts to Australia to North Carolina, all while providing a reminder to stay grounded as life’s tension and instability creep up on us in our most vulnerable moments. Like all Soft Skies Inc compositions, there’s room for the listener to take it to their own emotional shelter, but there also exists a compass for the song to take the listener somewhere, as well. 

More than anything, I want people to find their own meaning in the song,” Ryan adds. “But for me, it’s about the chaos of living a life that’s been off the rails for too long – trying to wrestle control over things that were never really in your hands to begin with. There’s a kind of madness in that. The line ‘just come down for a while’ is a plea – almost like someone shaking you awake. It’s a call to ground yourself before you burn out completely. That lyric, ‘you won’t treat those burns in a fire,’ is a warning. You can’t heal while you’re still standing in the flames. At some point, you’ve got to start doing things differently.” 

“Sin Some / Lose Some,” its title a foreboding twist on the familiar mantra about life’s ups and downs, reflecting on a “can’t win” scenario Ryan describes above, began to take shape after he relocated from Boston, where he and Martin were known for their work in ‘90s-era space rock band Lockgroove, to Sydney, exploring new surroundings and cultures while a significant distance from his best friend and family.

The “Sin Some / Lose Some” artwork, utilizing an up-close photograph of a weathered and weary person gazing off, the focus on the eye and what it sees, was created by Lindsay Metivier of Peel Gallery in Carrboro, North Carolina. It feels like it belongs in the record bin alongside other college rock classics, and directs the viewer into the Soft Skies Inc world.

MARIS Channels A Higher Power With Latest Single, “Mary + I “

We were beyond thrilled to check out, Up-and-coming indie pop singer MARIS and her amazing summer anthem “Mary + I,” a shimmering exploration of her holy trinity: weed, sex, and faith.

The single is out now on all platforms. MARIS recently released her first collab with Caroline Kingsbury on their single “Give Me a Sign.”  In less than a month the song got over a million streams on Spotify and was added to 25 editorial playlists with an additional 20 New Music Friday slots. 

MARIS first discovered planet Earth in 1999 while traveling through space on an expedition for life, love, and adventure. She hitched a ride on a comet to Los Angeles in 2021 and stayed to become a pop sensation. It unpacks her struggles with body image and the formative time she spent in a recovery center at the age of 17, healing from an eating disorder — a chapter marked by both pain and profound connection

At its heart, the song is a tribute to the unlikely sisterhood she found there. “At first, I just wanted to go home, but I couldn’t. So for a while, my world became that little cabin in the woods, and my family became this group of fiercely strong girls from every walk of life. We bonded over our mutual distrust of the nurses, our collective crush on the one male specialist, crocheting, and watching Pretty Little Liars. Although every day I was there I didn’t want to be there, I really do have fond memories from that place, mostly because of the people I met.”

Originally hailing from Toronto and now living in New York City, Maddie Regent discovered songwriting as a form of catharsis at just 12 years old, using music as a powerful tool to navigate her anxieties and give voice to her innermost thoughts. Since her debut in 2021, she has released two beloved EPs,MISS REGENTand Girl of Your Dreams, and has earned recognition from tastemakers like Atwood Magazine and EARMILK.

“New Thing” is the final single from Avery Friedman’s debut album of the same name that will be released on April, 18th .

Avery shares, “I wrote ‘New Thing’ in one sitting after riding the subway home alone at night for the first time since being mugged at knifepoint months prior. I was shocked and disoriented by the anxiety I experienced doing something so routine—I felt foreign to myself. It’s one of the first of my songs that I truly loved, which is part of why I chose it as the title of my upcoming record. I’m grateful for how this song continues to bring me back into my body.”

Avery Friedman, is a talented singer-songwriter who paints beautiful vivid melodic pictures that swim in your soul long after the music has ended. We have a feeling that Avery, has many more stories to tell and we can’t wait to hear them.

“Red Lines” is the latest to be taken from their forthcoming new EP Sleepless, which will be released on 2nd May 2025. The record explores themes of the mental health struggles often found in a life of chronic pain, whilst still encapsulating their signature hopeful, nu-disco-driven sound.

There is something positively otherworldly about the sound and vibe from PARCS, this is on full display on their latest brilliant new single, “Red Lines”

Commenting on the single, the band say: “‘Red Lines’ explores themes of anxiety, depression and hopelessness. Ethereal synths cut through the wall of noise created by the distorted guitars, building an atmosphere that hits you in the chest.”

The track follows on from previously-released singles ‘Fever’ and ‘Pull/Push’, which have been steadily gaining traction in their home nation of Wales with growing support at Nation Cymru, Music Blog Wales, Circuit Sweet, BBC Radio Wales and more.

This was the first time we had the opportunity to get away from home and record over a weekend, making a real event of it,” say the band of their experience recording the set of songs. “The whole weekend was so wholesome and really cemented the direction we’d gone in for the EP. There were dog cuddles (love you Basil), ice cream and sea swimming which added to the wholesome vibes. Musically, StudiOwz was ideal for us, with Owain making us feel so comfortable and giving us the space to be creative. We all left feeling like that was one of our favourite weekends of the year.”

PARCS, has a one of a kind sound that hits you almost instantly. The band’s sound is characterised by shimmering synths, hooky guitar riffs, driving bass lines, and four to the floor drums, with bittersweet, melancholic choruses that you can’t help but move your feet to—it’s music with both groove and heart.

We are beyond excited to see what’s next for PARCS.

Greer Have Created an Indie Rock Masterpiece With Latest Album “Big Smile”

Judging from the first two singles, “Had Enough” and “Franken” we had a feeling that “Big Smile” from Greer, was going to be something special…. We were right!

“In a way, we always say this record has been six years in the making,” they reflect. After a few years of being a band, signing to Epitaph and releasing two buzzy EPs (Lullaby For YouandHappy People), the young SoCal foursome behind Greer was feeling burnt and disconnected from the songs they’d written and toured. While 2021 came and went, a pandemic-induced fatigue led to their decision to go on an indefinite hiatus while finding individual clarity. Greer had to grow up again.

Returning to drummer Lucas’s Orange County garage where it all started, the band began to unearth old drafts and alchemize their matured, fully realized sound, eventually entering the studio withRob Schnapf(Elliott Smith, The Vines, Beck) with over two hundred songs written. The thirteen tracks that make up the album are the band’s emotional champions that track the tumultuous period between the start of their break and the peace they found on their way back. “‘Omnibus,’ the album’s opener, presents confusion in a vacuum of noise,” the band explains, “the overbearing weight of loss and struggling to find purpose, which slowly tames and realizes itself progressing through the track list; while ‘audio_77’ is the gossamer, an acoustic closer that reveals a placid beauty and quiet realization, concluding a long and chaotic haze with tender rest.” Laced between are vignettes of raw intensity, releasing the somber energy retained from Greer’s individual experiences while unveiling a complex new texture to their sound and reclaiming their narrative in the process. 

Every song on “Big Smile” is a well thought out , well crafted gem . We were hanging on every word and melody. It was like we were reading a best selling novel.

“Big Smile” , from Greer , is a record that has a big beautiful sound that we can’t help but gravitate to . If David Bowie, made an indie rock record in 2025, we think it would sound a lot like this .

Leading into the record’s release, the members of Greer – Josiah (vocals, guitar), Corbin (guitar, vocals), Seth (bass guitar), and Lucas (drums) – participated in a 36-hour livestream as part of their Greer On Display x Heaven by Marc Jacob’s exhibition. Enclosed together in a 7’x7’ space and displayed in the gallery’s window on Fairfax in Los Angeles for that time while committing to limited technology usage and radical transparency, fans had the chance to follow every moment of Greer’s experiment, capped by a raucous DIY performance in the space. 

The band also recently announced their month-long North American headlining tour kicking off in Phoenix, AZ on May 30 and wrapping up in Santa Ana, CA on June 30. “Despite the amount of time that has transpired since our last release, we as a band feel solid as a rock,” says Greer. “We’re nervous for our old fans to hear how our sound has changed, but that nervousness quickly overlaps with the excitement we feel in listening to the songs. We are so excited to get back on stage and sing our hearts out.” All dates are listed below, and tickets can be purchased here.

NYC’s Max Satow, professionally known as NOSHOWS, is finding a fascinating niche as a singer-songwriter and frontman by fusing explorations of the inner workings of the mind with a wildly eclectic blend of alt-rock, hip-hop, and funk.

The EP, artfully makes you not only move your feet but it also makes think, which goes along with Satow’s lifelong fascination with the chaos and psyche of the human mind, and his advocacy of such issues, has its roots in his family’s founding of The Jed Foundation, a non-profit that protects emotional health and prevents suicide for teens and young adults, giving them the skills and support they need to thrive. It was inspired by and named after the singer’s uncle, who took his own life. 

Satow has created a mental health hub of his own with Magnify the Mind, a community whose mission is to educate and advocate for those who need emotional support. NOSHOWS Tightrope EP, co-produced/co-written with two-time Grammy winner Marc Swersky (Joe Cocker, Little Stranger) and mixed by Seth Von Paulus (Smashing Pumpkins, Linda Perry)

We found ourselves, especially drawn to the track, “Let Me Sleep” , flawless vocals coupled with a memorable melody , “Let Me Sleep” is an absolute smash hit.

The title track, “Tightrope” has a real dance/ disco feel . We have a feeling that “Tightrope” could be a future dance club staple.

We were absolutely swept away with the dreamy electro-pop vibes of “Aidoru”, from Richard Evans, via Cold Star Media.

“Aidoru”, is named for the Japanese word meaning “idol“. The song’s lyrics explore the status of a virtual pop idol designed only to please its audience as it sings of love with no understanding of what the word means.

A British-Irish electronic musician, writer and digital media artist, Evans’ foray into the music scene includes time as the keyboardist in UK cult band James, with whom he also co-wrote and recorded material, and as guitarist and songwriter for St. Vitus Dancers.

Aidoru‘ previews Evans’ new ‘Quantum’ album, released in stereo, binaural and spatial audio mixes, created by award-winning Swiss sound designer Hervé Girardin. Recorded at Cold Star Studios, this nine-track collection itself is themed around artificial intelligence –  probing its impact upon us,  how algorithms are changing us and questioning what responsibility we bear for the things we create.

The music video, was filmed at the historic Bellforge Arts Center in Massachusetts.

Spear and longtime collaborator Will Hall shot “The Number One Song In Heaven” video at Bellforge Arts Center in Medfield, the historic site of the former Medfield State Hospital that is now a blossoming creative arts hub. 

“My two aesthetic touchstones for that were the black and white scenes from the Powell & Pressburger movie A Matter of Life And Death, and the bathtub Mary statues you see in suburban homes throughout the commonwealth,” Spear says with a laugh. “I wanted something both otherworldly and old, and I think the weathered bricks and the pastoral shots of cloudy skies and open fields captured that feeling!”

We were absolutely enchanted by “Enjoy Youth”, from acclaimed LGBTQ+ artist Bright Light Bright Light featuring platinum selling Welsh superstar Donna Lewis. We love the vibe and sound and simply can’t get enough.

The English and Welsh language version features the timeless hit maker known for “I Love You Always Forever” adding her stunning ethereal vocals. Complimenting the production crafted by Bright Light Bright Light and Jon Shave, who was recently GRAMMY-nominated for his work on Charli XCX’s ‘Brat’, “Enjoy Youth” is a must hear collaboration.

The song is partly translated into Welsh by fellow Welsh singer-songwriter Al Lewis, honouring Rod’s own homeland and personal roots growing up in Wrexham, North Wales.

Chelsea Spear , does an extraordinary of honoring the art rock brilliance of Sparks,with , “The No.1 Song In Heaven” while illuminating the track by adding her own personal musical spark .

“The original version of the song feels like a dance party at the end of the world, and the note for my version was that I wanted it to sound like a lullaby,” Spear says. “Releasing it as a single seemed like a good way of letting listeners know what to expect.”

The single is”about the pressure for women in music to package themselves as consumable, f*ckable products just to be taken seriously—and how that pits them against each other and themselves. 

We love the style and vibe of “Machinery” from Fake Dad . ( Andrea de Varona (she/her) and Josh Ford (he/him) “Machinery” is a fierce emotional charged track with a powerful message.

This angry, teeth-grinding rock/pop track was written right after an industry showcase where every girl performing wore the exact same spike-studded bra—too concerned with sizing each other up to actually have a good time. As they eyed each other with loathing and borderline obsession, I stood in the corner feeling really sad that nobody was trying to connect, which is what we were all supposedly there to do. This song was written as a response to the way this kind of woman on woman (or more generally, artist on artist) hate perpetuates these spaces while the real culprits—our sick, sad society governed by narcissistic, billionaire white men—totally fly under the radar. In the end, the man is the real one we’re calling out. The one that we’re sick and tired of watching get what they want, while we sit back eating from their palm,” shares Andrea. 

Fake Dad, has an authentic realness that is felt throughout, “Machinery “ they are a duo who aren’t afraid to express themselves freely and their music shines because of this .

Magana Delivers Beautifully Crafted New EP, “Bad News”

We recently had the wonderful opportunity to listen to the new EP, “Bad News” , from Magana, the solo project of acclaimed LA-based multi-instrumentalist and photographer Jeni Magaña. You can listen to “Bad News” on Spotify Here Apple Music Here

Best-known as the current bassist and backing vocalist for Mitski (recently performing on the “Coyote, My Little Brother” / “Buffalo Replaced” single), Magaña is also one-half of the pen pin pop duo with Emily Moore, and has previously played with Lady Lamb, amongst others.

In March, she returned to the Magana project after a three-year-absence with the critically acclaimed ‘Teeth’LP, which reunited her with Audio Antihero Records(Frog / CIAO MALZ / Nosferatu D2)who issued her ‘Golden Tongue’ debut in 2016. Released to coincide with the peak illumination of the Worm Moon, her return was marked with a “Witchy Rock” sound that combined Acid Folk, Synth Pop, and Indie Rock. Magaña followed this in October with ‘DREAMS,’ a multimedia project released via the UK’s Hand Drawn Hand label, which combined Ambient Electronic music with a spoken word dream diary and a book of her photography.

The ‘Bad News’ EP is her third release in a ten month period. Teasingly described by Magaña as “Cozy Core” and “Winter Pop,”these four songs see her return to the singer-songwriter focus of works like‘Golden Tongue’and ‘Teeth’ but strip away the Rock and Ambient layers, so to emphasize words, meaning, honesty, and change.

The “Bad News” EP from Magana, is a magnificent collection of well crafted songs that gently warm your soul .

The melody on the opening track, “Half To Death “ is both hauntingly beautiful and inviting , it is the perfect opening track to a wonderful collection of music .

Jeni Magaña’s vocal on “Hold On “, is positively otherworldly. Listening to “Hold On” you really feel artistic core of the EP, “Hold On” is by far our favorite track on “Bad News”

The beauty of “Shower Song “ is the authenticity and honesty that is found in the brilliant and powerful lyrics. We were hanging on every word , “Shower Song” is absolute perfection.

The final track on “Bad News”, “I’m Not Doing Anything “, is a stunningly beautifully arranged track , that artfully blends vocals and melodies to create a jaw dropping and memorable song.

This EP is the last of what I think of as an interconnected trio of releases. ‘Teeth’ was made for spring, a period of growth. It was expansive and exploring. ‘DREAMS’ was made for fall. It was about dusk, the dawning of the restful months. ‘Bad News’ is made for that period of time between the end of winter and the beginning of spring. Stillness before movement. Each song is about the period of time right before a transition: the realization that change is coming or that it needs to come. As the most lyrically driven of the releases, it is mostly about storytelling. I think of each track as a vignette of a moment in time for four different stories.” – Jeni Magaña

Her first tour in 2017 (with PVRIS and Lights) ushered in a devoted fanbase, and her live performances continue to be a core facet of her artistry, being equal parts Madonna, Hayley Williams, and Sheryl Crow. In 2020 she wrote Rockin’ on the Rag, a song about period pride, for Loren Bouchard’s Apple animated series Central Park, wrote and produced the Le Tigre-infused Supernatural for feminist rock duo Deap Vally, and continued to lend her vocals to other musicians (LŪN, Urban Heat, Battle Tapes, MitiS, Getter, and others have featured her vocals on their releases). Her music has been in movies and television (Glass, Girls, The L Word: Generation Q, Nancy Drew, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin) featured in various media outlets (Billboard, PAPER, Noisey, Earmilk, Paste and more) and included on Spotify Editorial playlists such as Fresh Finds, Fresh Finds Indie, and Undercurrents. Though the identity has changed, the relentless sonic fury and blurring of genre lines of the locked-in Lurid Purple Flowers lineup – vocalist and guitarist CA Newcomb; bassist Ben Caito; and drummer Nick White – remains fully intact.  

“Will I Ever?” is a relentless wall of blissful chaos, showcasing the various energies of the band while pushing their sound across genre boundaries through a swirling torrent of noise. It follows October single “Can’t Let Go,” and both will be included on a new album due in February. We love when music can take you on a journey and open your eyes to a new experience.

Intricately weaving both sides of a human emotive spectrum where an ethereal post-’gaze state flutters along like a trance before a devastating crush of sound envelopes and ensnares, “Will I Ever?” has as much personal meaning to the band as the name change. It details a horrific personal experience Newcomb endured two years ago, as she relays the story and emotion of being hit as a pedestrian by a drunk driver, sending her to the hospital and placing her on a long path to recovery. 

“Unfortunately, I was run over by a drunk driver and struggled with PTSD,” Newcomb reveals. “I was pissed, emotional, tired, and scared at the same time. Ben shared a demo he had been working on and the chords just hit different. We wrote it together in one night.

“Will I Ever?” was engineered by Tré Espinoza, and mixed and mastered by Alex Allinson at The Bridge Sound & Stage in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It feels like a new era for the project, and marks a significant sonic leap forward, where Newcomb, Caito, and White are able to harness the raw power and aggression of their sound and juxtapose it with a heavenly sense of musical weightlessness.

We recently had the unbelievable opportunity to check out the new single “ON/OFF” from Fake Dad,  a Los Angeles based, NYC bred indie rock meets dream pop duo.

We absolutely love the vibe on “ON/OFF , from Fake Dad. ( Andrea de Varona (she/her) and Josh Ford (he/him)

“ON/OFF” is a grunge classic full of bottled-up rage and sexual frustration. De Varona chronicles the moment-by-moment experience of being emotionally overwhelmed and overstimulated—bedrotting, serotonin burnout, doomscrolling, time bleeding together, laying on the bathroom floor trying to figure out if she’s feeling too much, or not enough.

Formed in 2020, the duo met at a college party in the East Village and have been inseparable ever since. Melting their own unique artistic visions to build a shared sonic shorthand,Fake Dad create like master painters, carefully molding a sonic and melodic sound that is laced with catchy pop-laden hooks, crunchy, 90s inspired guitars, grooving bass lines, and buoyant synths. The end result is absolutely otherworldly and you can feel it completely on “ON/OFF”

De Varona says about the song, “This was written when I couldn’t get out of bed or leave my apartment. Time really bleeds together. When you ignore feelings for long enough you become overwhelmed by and disconnected from them—both numb and overactivated. This song compares that numbness to its direct companion, doomscrolling serotonin burnout. The modern world wants us to be overstimulated and ‘turned off,’ this song is me pleading to be turned back on. “
