Jonathan Richman Shines With New Album, “Only Frozen Sky Anyway”

We recently had the opportunity to check out the new album, “Only Frozen Sky Anyway”,the 18th album, via Blue Arrow Records (vinyl and CD will be released at a later date TBA), from legendary singer-songwriter, Jonathan Richman, and spoiler alert: it is stunning.

You can listen to “Only Frozen Sky Anyway” on Spotify Here, Apple Music Here

With his longtime drummer and percussionist Tommy Larkins and former Modern Lovers bandmate the inimitable Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads) on keyboards, Richman follows in his longtime tradition of injecting his lyrical wit into indie rock in a fashion that he perfected over the decades.

Kicking off with the rhythmic “I Was Just A Piece of Frozen Sky Anyway,” the album finds Richman better than ever traipsing through acoustic styles effortlessly from track to track. Lifting the melody and chorus from Bee Gee’s eponymous hit single, Richman creates a nostalgic narrative in “Night Fever,” where he takes on a voyeuristic look on typical a Saturday night in Europe. The infectiously propulsive “The Older Girl” sees Richman warning a younger fellow to avoid dating up (“She was a whole year older / And I looked a lot younger / I was too young to know how important those two things were”). The Spanish-inflected “Se Va Pa’volver” captures the thematic thread of departures and returns that permeates the album. Richman explains, “Like many of the songs on this new record, which either existed in a vague, skeletal form or did not at all before we started recording on January 5th of ’25 (and finished by January 10th), this song fits in with the theme that seems to have taken shape during that recording session. The song is about how our friends are leaving, in their dying, on an errand, only to return in another role… with another mission. How do I dare say such a thing? Oh…I don’t know.”

In addition to this album of all new material, Blue Arrow will be releasing his last three albums Ishkode! Ishkode! (2016), SA! (2018) and Want To Visit My Inner House? (2021) as well as the EPs Cold Pizza & Other Hot Stuff(2022) and Yatasamaroun (2023) to streaming services for the first time ever. Previously only available via Bandcamp or for purchase at shows, the rollout of these releases finally makes them accessible to a much larger audience. Of these albums, Richman says, “Jerry Harrison, Nicole Montalbano and I produced [Want To Visit My Inner House?] as well as SA! (2018). To us, the two albums are related in the sense that Want to Visit My Inner House?suggests where SA was starting to head.”

In support of Only Frozen Sky Anyway, Richman has announced a Fall tour that kicks off October 3rd in Boise, ID and circles the continent, hitting Calgary, Winnipeg, Minneapolis, Albany, before wrapping up at Portland, ME’s SPACE Gallery.  Dates and info

We Are Over The Moon For The New Single “Skybather” From KEG

We recently got to experience for the first time the music of London-based collective KEG, and their lively and vibrant new single “Skybather” You can listen to listen to “Skybather” Here

KEG showcase a unique and fresh sound on Skybather that we were absolutely draw to right from the first note. “Skybather”, has a brilliantly bright and fluid melody and tone that is a refreshing change to the sometimes mundane musical landscape. Skybather’ sparks to mind lo-fi art-rock greats like Spoon, EELS and Cake, all while retaining the band’s signature British sound.

Commenting on the track, the band said: “One simply must bathe as much as possible. Cleanse the day’s woes in lavender and enter your mind palace. All of Keg are huge bathers, I think maybe we were all from Budapest in a past life. Those guys have it all sorted, sausages and baths. This is our tribute to the act, may all of your baths be blessed!”

The new single is another stellar cut from the outfit’s highly anticipated debut album “Fun’s Over”, set for release March, 14th, 2025 via Alcopop! Records, and follows on from previously released buoyant lead single ‘Sate The Worm’ and the wonky synth lurch of follow up single ‘I’d Fly Tip For You’.

The album is available to preorder now, with the record available on CD andspecial Dinked vinyl edition in midnight blue/clown red galaxy swirl, complete with a fully signed linograph print by Joel Whitaker based on a painting by singer Albert, with a cut out and keep mask of Frank, the band’s undeniable #1 heartthrob and guitarist. meg elsier Delivers Indie-Rock Perfection With Debut Album “spittake”

We recently had the privilege of checking out the debut album “spittake” from Nashville based indie-rock artist meg elsier

You can listen to “spittake” Here

Rising indie-rock artist meg elsier reveals her highly-anticipated debut album, spittake, and we think it is positively amazing.

Blending elements of grunge, contemporary pop, folk, and indie-rock, spittake showcases meg’s ability to create dynamic, versatile, and effortlessly catchy music. Across the album’s 11 tracks, she delivers musings on love, death, nostalgia, youth, anxiety, depression and everything in between, with a uniquely self-deprecating touch. “spittake” is one of those magical/ special records that stay within your soul.meg elsier has such a beautiful and unique sound that you can’t help but take notice.

The story isn’t necessarily linear,” she explains. “But the main connection throughout is this unreliable narrator that you as a listener determine your view/trust of. They are incredibly inconsistent with their statements but I believe they think they’re telling the truth.”

All of the songs on spittake were solely written and demoed by meg over the last few years. She later collaborated with Nashville-based producer Ryan McFadden to record the final product while still maintaining the DIY spirit of the album as a whole (the lowercase, uncapitalized song titles are a nod to the original demo names).

The delicate balance of noise and music was beautifully blended on spittakemeg elsier delivered an absolutely magnificent vocal performance throughout “spittake”

We loved the tenderness of the title track “spittake” and reveled in the beautiful crunchy noise of “iznotreal” One of the highlight tracks is the single “ifshitfuq” where we feel meg absolutely shines . If we had to pick a favorite track ( which is next to impossible to do ) we would choose “youngestchild” The vocals and melody on “youngestchild” are exactly why we love music- Bravo

Many artists tend to craft an album that is one sided however, on “spittake” meg elsier brilliantly makes each track memorable and unique.

Do yourself a favor and check out the debut album “spittake” from meg elsier it is an absolute can’t miss.

Crow Follow Deliver A Groovy Trip With “I’m In Love With You”

We recently had the extreme privilege to check out the new single “I’m In Love With You “ via Rock Garden Records from Boston based shaman rock and urban cabaret brigade Crow Follow .

You can listen to “I’m In Love With You “ on Spotify Here and on Bandcamp Here and on Apple Music Here

Listening to “I’m In Love With You” from Crow Follow feels like a groovtastic out of body experience which, we highly recommend.

The musical juices are overflowing on “I’m In Love With You “ as they have artfully added low-rock, post-punk, and art-rock vibes to give you a song that you won’t soon forget.

Crow Follow will bring their brilliant live show to The Jungle in Somerville on June 28 with Emily Grogan Band, Catwolf, and Galaxy Cake

Onstage is where seeds of Crow Follow’s latest smoke dance of a single were first planted, as the music that flows through them during live sets helped foster an intimate connection amongst the band members themselves and the audience in the room. Like a cherry bomb lit off a hot summer sidewalk, the rambunctious “I’m In Love With You” fires dueling guitar and saxophone lines, swirling in unbridled loving energy. Providing a magnetic low-end soundtrack for underground dance parties, it opens our hearts in a time of tension and chaos.

‘I’m In Love With You’ is about this vibe I get when we’re playing on stage,” says Crow Follow guitarist and vocalist Tim Sprague. “The music swells up out of me, but it’s not me. It’s something bigger using me to express this passion, this love. Everyone in the room was a collaborator, a co-conspirator when this song birthed itself on stage. That chorus of ‘You know / I’m in love with you’ comes from an authentic emotion. When the music is running through me I am in love with everyone in the room.”

‘I’m In Love With You’ is another statement of determination from a band that relentlessly promotes our drive to live and thrive,” asserts vocalist Agent Judy. “We will not be swayed from our deepest connections to the evolutionary source of our creative forces. That’s where it’s all at. It says that we can engage power from the carnal core to lofty ideals by engaging with love in all its forms. Art is the expression of that experience.”

Find your favorite music listening spot and get lost in the absolute fantastic vibes from Crow Follow and their latest “I’m In Love With You”
