The follow-up to May’s star-gazing and celestial “Choices,” the latest from Jon Chesbro, is a psych-pop headtrip that not only anticipates society’s sudden end, but tries to position us to where we actually embrace the catastrophic event through a contemplative sense of calm.

Where “Choices” lyrically explored the decisions we’ve made in our lives that helped shape who we are, for better or worse, “One Last Dance” fast-forwards to the end. And like any quest for salvation, be it sonic or spiritual or otherwise, Chesbro, the Phoenix Remix’s Artist of the Month for May, is reflecting on the past in order to embrace the present.

This song is about the final moment you have before the world ends,” he says, fairly matter-of-factly. “You find yourself working for a job you hate, paying taxes for stuff you don’t want, and you really don’t ever enjoy yourself or your relationships. You’re too busy trying to be something you’re not. Right when you see the final nuclear blast you realize you have ‘One Last Dance’ with the one you love. You take in that moment and savor it – and that’s the last thing you feel before being erased from the Earth.”

The music and lyrics of “One Last Dance” were written by Chesbro, who co-produced the track alongside Don Schweihofer. It was recorded by Todd Harris and Jonathan Chesbro at Berlin Audio Productions in Massachusetts, and mixed and mastered by Erik Von Geldern

I’m definitely diving more and more into the singer-songwriter sound,” Chesbro admits. “I like it. It comes with challenges. Instrumental music is a little easier for me to make, so I kind of like the challenge this brings me. ‘One Last Dance’ started on acoustic guitar, the initial chords and riff. The guitar solo was a process because I don’t usually write solos but this time I did and added some harmonies with it.”

“One Last Dance” will be featured on an upcoming full-length album, due either later this year or at some point in 2026

“It’s going to be a banger,” he says of the forthcoming album, “with songs that will make you cry and songs that will rock your socks off. I feel like my job as an artist is to make people feel something real and not AI-generated. So if any emotion is sparked, really, I consider that a win.”

Don’t wait any longer…. “One Last Dance”, from Jon Chesbro, is a song you need to hear.

Temporary Circus:Act 1 From Derek Smith and tphe Cosmic Vultures Is Positively Magnificent.

Design By Derek Smith

We recently had the spectacular opportunity, to check out the new EP, “Temporary Circus: Act 1”, from Boston, singer-songwriter Derek Smith and the Cosmic Vultures.

You can listen to, “Temporary Circus:Act 1” on Spotify Here, Apple Music Here And on Bandcamp Here

The latest EP, from Derek Smith and the Vultures, “Temporary Circus: Act 1 , is a joyous musical treasure trove of brilliantly crafted musical compositions.

Derek Smith and the Cosmic Vultures’ new EP, Temporary Circus: Act 1, is a five-track collection from the prolific Boston singer-songwriter that hits the streams today, ( Friday, May 16. ) This new record arrives about a half-year from the band’s recent album Opus, and marks the start of a new creative chapter with additional acts to quickly follow.

Sonically, this is an acoustic album to me,” Smith says. “I didn’t use a full drum kit here. It feels different than Opus and that was my intention. I have people asking me why I didn’t make a direct sequel to Opus and it’s because I already did it. It’s time for a new sound.”

Where Opus was a majestic declaration of excess and grandeur, coming off more like a greatest hits compilation in its sweeping production and ambitious drive, Temporary Circus: Act 1 is something far more personal, more raw, and more organic. Intact is Smith’s penchant for melody, and the alarming ease with which he steers his sound through familiar corridors of alternative, pop-rock, indie-folk, psych, Yacht Rock, AM ‘70s gold, funk, and whatever else escapes from his creative mental asylum. The many different stylistic offerings make the EP, a melodic delight. Smith’s sound has always been jovial on the surface, with something a little darker glowing underneath.

Throughout Temporary Circus: Act 1, there is a growing unease and overwhelming sense of malaise that permeates through the five songs, and drawn together serve as a bit of a warning about what the future may hold, with carnival-like interludes and faux news reports acting as segues, similar to how we doom scroll from one app to the next to feed our serotonin needs: “Question everything. Do your research. Whatever hardship you’re going through… it’ll pass. And to hell with toxic people.”

Derek Smith and the Cosmic Vultures have crafted an EP, that flows freely in many melodic directions, while also artfully articulating the state of world . Because, it’s also a proper Derek Smith and the Cosmic Vultures album, so beneath the layers of social awareness, messages both subliminal and obvious, and lyrical wordplay wisdom, is another sparkling and celestial record that glows with Smith’s vivid storytelling acumen. He’s now officially released 73 songs since 2017, both with the Cosmic Vultures and as a solo artist, and the creative tank shows no signs of emptying.

The EP opener and title track immediately set the lyrical theme, a daydream-like composition with a propulsive thump and twinkling demeanor where a certain type of circus comes to town to whisk us away in our own cerebral slumbers. The yearning, campfire glide “Strange Life” explores feelings of self-discovery and our shared end-goal of being comfortable with who we are, despite greater forces influencing us otherwise.

Smith leans into political lanes on the poignant and straight-forward “The Puppets of Hypocrisy,” fueled by a sonic buoyancy and pub sing-along mood while hidden meanings lurk behind the lyrical phrases. The atmospheric and star-gazing “Some Girls” (Our favorite track on the EP) finds a central comfort in the strength and poise of women, with Smith casting admiration for what they provide the world and how much they deal with and are forced to endure.

And EP closer “Indie Darling” was inspired by a dream Smith had walking through Salem, Massachusetts, waking up feeling so connected to the city and feeling free from the circus that had previously dogged his mental state.

My music is a universe that I created,” Smith concludes. “If someone connects to my music, that is wonderful. But they need to use the info wisely. Use the info to help you put together whatever your opinion is. Bottom line: A famous musical artist (or hell, a local one) spreading their message is fine. But it’s NOT the end all be all. Form your own opinions. I think it’s important that everyone has a platform to express their opinion on the world… but people get obsessed with artists and then they become idols. Just be careful with that stuff. It could be your next Temporary Circus.”

We were absolutely captivated by “Temporary Circus: Act 1 “ from Derek Smith and the Cosmic Vultures, it is a must listen.

Cruel Miracle Have Created An Amazing Video For “Stone”

We recently got the amazing opportunity, to check out the new video for “Stone”, from Boston hard rock band , Cruel Miracle, you can watch the epic video for “Stone” below

You can also listen to “Stone “ , which is on their album “Steadfast” on Spotify Here , Apple Music Here

On its own, “Stone” from Cruel Miracle, is an epic hard rock groove that is straight up phenomenal. Now we get a blazing video to go along with it…… It’s like we won the freaking lottery!!!

Finally getting the video treatment it deserves, the riff-fueled “Stone” is the lead track to Cruel Miracle’s recent album Steadfast, a piledriver of a record that first dropped last summer. The video for “Stone” was created by the band members themselves, featuring the four dudes rocking out in its rehearsal space as colorful and animated visuals bloom with each hook and spin like a hypnotic pinwheel.

The band shares : ‘Stone’ is a story about perseverance – staying strong while remaining true to yourself,” the band declares, speaking on the new release as a cohesive voice of one. “In typical Cruel Miracle fashion, one of us brought some riffs and then we all worked on the structure and arrangements. This was first created as a post-pandemic tune, so the feel was based on the struggles of the time and the battle against our personal demons.”

The DIY video for “Stone” was created by the band members themselves, featuring the four dudes rocking out in its rehearsal space as colorful and animated visuals bloom with each hook and spin like a hypnotic pinwheel. It’s the band’s visual follow-up to last year’s “Wicked Ways [1999]” video, which dropped, appropriately, on the Fourth of July.

But the latest dose of video fireworks from Cruel Miracle is more stripped-down in nature, allowing the song to expand and take hold while showcasing the band doing what it does best – rocking the eff out.

“We spent time looking at videos from the ‘60s all the way to the mid-’90s – where most of us cut our teeth,” they add. “There was no real theme or direction, we just wanted something kind of random and psychedelic. We also wanted to showcase ourselves playing in our own environment. It all goes back to the visuals and feel of that old-school rock scene – capturing that hard rock essence and delivering an accurate representation of what Cruel Miracle is today

Cruel Miracle, is exactly the high octane rock and roll that is needed in today’s musical landscape. Full throttle and full speed ahead . Music needs to be a loud and thunderous experience and Cruel Miracle, is just the right band to lead the charge .

Cruel Miracle is:

Charlie Black: Main vocals and bass

Joe Cook: Drums and backing vocals

Aaron Leonard: Keys and backing vocals

Doug Hendler: Guitars

Kula Shaker Shines Bright With New Single And Video,”Charge Of The Light Brigade”

We recently had the opportunity to check out the new single, “Charge Of The Light Brigade” via Strangefolk records, from English psychedelic rock band, Kula Shaker. You can listen to “Charge Of The Light Brigade. Here You can also watch the video below

Packed with allusions to spiritual vampires and the fairy cavalcade of Celtic folklore, this three-minute musical trip is the first of a number of new tracks the band have recorded for their upcoming eighth studio album (title to be announced) and heralds their March/April shows in the U.K., where they will be riding out with Ocean Colour Scene as very special guests on their 2025 tour.

We love the vibrant classic sound of Kula Shaker, “Charge Of The Light Brigade “ it is definitely Kula Shaker, at their absolute best .

The band’s sound feels more amplified than ever with the return of Hammond organ wizard Jay Darlington after a decade with Oasis and various Gallaghers, reuniting all four members of the band’s classic line-up (Crispian Mills: guitar/vocals; Jay Darlington: Hammond organAlonza Bevan: bassPaul Winter-Hart: drums) for the first time since 1999’s Peasants, Pigs & Astronauts

With their seventh and latest album Natural Magick (2024) released across the world and topping the Independent Album Charts in the UK (“The best album of their career” – Shindig!), and having completed successful tours of North America, Asia, the UK and Europe last year, Kula Shaker are well and truly back in the saddle, galloping at speed, in a startling return to form.

Sounding the charge for 2025, this new song continues the ever-evolving Kula Shaker legend, which has both entertained and inspired listeners for decades, and 2025, and sees the band advance once again as “Charge of The Light Brigade” trailers the release of a new studio album.

The band will be releasing new music and embarking on international tours, headlining venues and festivals throughout 2025.

We Are Completely Mesmerized By The Stunning New Single, “Fools Gold” From ROTHCO

We were so excited to learn that Hull (UK) band, ROTHCO, have signed to Man Demolish Records and will release their debut EP Fools Goldon 6th June 2025.

To mark the occasion , the band are sharing the writhing lead single and title track ‘Fools Gold’ which is out now.

You can listen to “Fools Gold “, Here

ROTHCO conjures up a hypnotically hip melody with “Fools Gold” that we are absolutely smitten with.

Brimming with Gothic New Wave sensibilities and a passionately poetic delivery, sonically the track is an amalgamation of some of their major influences including The Doors, Talking Heads, Joy Division and Fugazi, with more than a touch of Swans-esque noise rock and agit-punk thrown into the mix.

Fresh from signing with Man Demolish Records, the band recently recorded their debut EP Fools Gold, mixed by Nick “The Muscle” Russell (Strange Pink, Bedsit) at York’s Young Thugs Studios, and mastered by Pete Maher (Jack White, U2).

Commenting on the single, the band said: “‘Fools Gold’ is our statement against the mechanical and algorithmic efficiency of the modern world; our declaration in favour of keeping humanity in the arts and wider life.”

ROTHCO’s sound is an intoxicating blend of influences that impresses in its effortless blending of elements from abrasive punk, brooding psychedelic, disco and gothic post-punk.

Comprising veterans of the Hull music scene, the band have paid their dues in notable previous outfits Bunkerpop, Black Ravines, Stuka, Big River, Black Delta Movement, and Bedsit, and their dedication to their craft is more than apparent in this latest incarnation.

We are all in on ROTHCO, and we can’t wait to hear what’s next.
