We recently had the stellar opportunity to check out the new single “Bookstore” from Yard Sign . You can listen to “Bookstore” Here.
Yard Sign is an online punk rock band, one-man folk punk act and Tik Tok Emo from Columbus, Ohio. They specialize in songs about life, love, loss and Star Wars. No matter the incarnation, Yard Sign is a variety of musical outputs led by Scott Marks, an elder millennial punk rock Swemo originally from New York, but calling central Ohio home for the past decade.
We instantly felt drawn to “Bookstore” from Yard Sign. It’s a smartly crafted song that has a memorable melody that we happily enjoyed having it stay in our head long after the music ended .
Coming of musical age in both the New York hardcore and pop-punk scenes, Marks played all different instruments for all different bands before settling into middle-agedom in the Midwest.
After 10+ years of musical semi-retirement, Yard Sign emerged from the pandemic, churning out full-band punk rock (and adjacent) anthems on the internet and leading sing-along kazoo parties across Ohio and beyond in their one-of-a-kind-one-man pop-folk-punk shows.
When asked about “Bookstore”, Scott Marks shares , “Bookstore’ is kind of a Frankenstein of different song ideas. I always wanted to write a song called ‘bookstore’. I’m a big reader and fan of romantic comedies, so bookstores are kind of a sacred place to me. Movies like ‘You’ve Got Mail’, ‘Notting Hill’, ‘When Harry Met Sally’, all about bookstores! Then one day I was scrolling through the internet and was presented with a meme from one of those ‘words are my porn’ kinda pages that said “someone telling you they read the book you recommended is the ultimate love language” or something like that. So the idea for the song was basically the opposite of that; someone NOT reading the book you recommended to them. I picked up the ukulele and the line ‘had an idea, but it was stupid’, just came right out. The rest of the song kind of wrote itself from there. I wanted it to feel like that middle act in a rom-com where the two leads breakup/fallout/get sad at each other. Sad, longing, but maybe also a little hopeful.”
So find your favorite music listening spot and get lost in “Bookstore” from Yard Sign.
Album release party set for July 27 at Lowell’s Thirsty First with Lenny Lashley and others
We recently had the opportunity to check out the much anticipated new record from Massachusetts Punks, Already Dead . And.. it did not disappoint. “Something Like A War” from Already Dead, consist of 14 well crafted songs that touch both the mind and soul.
You can listen to “Something Like A War “ on Spotify Here , Apple Music Here and Bandcamp Here

“Something Like A War “ grabs your attention right from the start . The Opening track “The Spirit Of Massachusetts Avenue” is a well written , loud and proud anthem of a song that doesn’t let up for a second.
Every single song on “Something Like A War” is brimming with authenticity and truth . It is crystal clear that vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Dan Cummings is not afraid to speak his mind (there is no sugar coating going on at all ) He has also assembled a group of musicians ( Brandon Bartlett, guitar, Brian Ferrazzani, bass and Nick Cali, bass) that add the perfect punch and attitude to his powerful lyrics.
Something Like A War, both the song and the album, are filled with the type of intensity we all need in facing our daily lives – and maintains the Already Dead working class ethos, positioned steadfast as a voice for labor movements and working class solidarity. And besides, there’s no chance of a sophomore slump when the moniker is nicked from baseball, yet another way Already Dead areembedded in Boston culture. “I was watching the Ken Burns documentary on baseball,” Cummings admits, “and heard the Ty Cobb quote about how ‘every game is something like a war’. It immediately resonated with me for a few reasons .First it just sounds badass [laughs]. But also to describe approaching something with that kind of intensity and determination struck a chord.”
What we love about “Something Like A War” is that it is a record that is full of brilliantly constructed songs . We live in era where everyone is going for the “single” it’s a nice change of pace to hear an album that kicks ass from top to bottom . From “One Foot”, “Rock Bottom” , “Wits End”and our personal favorite “When You were Great” Something Like A War “ is an album that needs to be heard and played loud .
Massachusetts punk band Already Dead are one of those bands we just can’t get enough of. Already Dead comes at you full force armed with an explosive sound and message to match . This is on full display on “Something Like A War”
We loved the ska feel on “Something Like A War” It is one of those songs that stays with you and before you know it you are singing along . “Something Like A War,” the single, is a missile of a song that clocks in at under two minutes. And might just create a new wave of ska-punk on its own.
“It’s about our personal battles – we all know ‘em, we all have ‘em,” Cummings says of the Something Like A War title track. “The struggle we go through to make the right decisions, day in and day out. Accepting we will make mistakes along the way. But still fighting every day, sometimes to amend the sins of yesterday. This and ‘Spirit’ represent the vibe I think the album encapsulates. Lyrically they have themes of social commentary and self-reflection, and musically both are on the harder side.”
We are all in on “Something Like A War” and we are counting the days until the album release.
We started The Whole Kameese back in 2020 as a way to keep busy during the pandemic. We are so lucky to have worked with so many wonderful artists, promoters and other music professionals. We were also so blessed to be able to share so much amazing music . We have made the difficult decision to put the blog on the back burner. At this time we need to focus on other important matters. We do not know how long we will be away but, we will return. We thank all of you for your support

That almost happened with “Trees Sway”. I was gifted the song in a dream and woke up abruptly, turned to Kelly and said, “turn your phone audio recorded on, I’ll be right back.” Grabbed a guitar and played the whole thing, front to back, complete with lyrics in one go. That became the song, and when she sang it for the record it took on a life of its own,”Ogden adds, “Trees Sway” about love, loss, and reincarnation. For Closure (fronted by vocalist Gizz Lazlo (Dr. Know, U.K. Subs, The Freeze)
We recently had the distinct honor of checking out the new single “The Moon At Noon” via Mindpower Records, from LA punk/power-pop band For Closure ( fronted by vocalist Gizz Lazlo (Dr. Know, U.K. Subs , The Freeze
Frontman Gizz Lazlo says, “”Moon at Noon” was written a few days after my dad’s first major heart attack in May of 2018.
I was sitting on my parent’s porch while my dad lay in the hospital in a coma for 6 days. As I sat there confused and worried about what was going to happen, I needed to write something to calm my nerves a bit. Luis had sent me a demo that I’d listened to a few weeks prior.
While I was listening to the music over and over on my headphones, chain-smoking trying to distract myself, certain phrases kept coming back as I was humming melodies over the music.
A few hours later I’d finished these lyrics and just left them alone as I went back and forth to the hospital trying to deal with my mother and relatives who started arriving from Mexico to see my dad. When my dad was discharged from the hospital I couldn’t sleep thinking that this may happen again
. About a week after my dad was home I found myself in my studio wondering what these lyrics would sound like to the music. I spent about an hour behind the mic recording the original demo for this song.
I sent it to Luis and we instantly knew we HAD to record this song. It’s definitely not something we usually write together. That’s the thing I love about writing songs with Luis is that we both don’t care what people are going to think about them.
If “we” like them then let’s record them. Everything we’ve written in the past few years are songs about the dark side of life. Not everything is rainbows and butterflies. As much as we want it to be, it just isn’t. My hope is that whoever listens to our songs finds something that they can hold on to if they ever feel down.
I grew up with songs that helped me through some tough times. Maybe, just maybe we can help someone through their personal trauma with our songs. I’ve been close to the end many times, but I’m still here. So I guess the best advice I can give is to – Never Lose Hope!! You are loved!!”
We are absolutely over the moon for the new For Closure single “Moon At Noon”
Music is by far the best form of expression and For Closure have crafted an absolute gem.
What really makes “ Moon At Noon” shine , is how For Closure artfully works in not only punk and pop-punk elements in to the song , But, you also can also feel the Emo and melodic hardcore elements as well.
We can’t wait for more music from For Closure, “Moon At Noon” is an absolute can’t miss.
We recently had the opportunity to check out the killer new album “So Many Ways..” from Brazilian punks Scumbags . You can listen to “So Many Ways..” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here
If we’re being honest … listening to “So Many Ways..” from Scumbags was probably the best 39 minutes and 56 seconds we have spent in a while .
“So Many Ways..” is the band’s second album and while it has the same melodiand sonic goodness from their first record “Sour Days” there is definitely signs of maturity on “So Many Ways”
“I think that since our first album, Sour Days, we have matured a lot in terms of composition and arrangements. We started hearing new references and brought them to our songs.” reports Chris Oliveira, the band’s drummer.
This maturity is already evident in production. Part of the album was recorded at Forest Lab, in Rio de Janeiro, a studio specialized in completely analog recording. And another part was recorded at Eletric Meduza, a recording studio located in Brusque, Santa Catarina, which also works with analogue elements in the recordings.
For Chris, the new songs will bring a different feel to what people are used to hearing in Scumbags. “The upcoming album will bring a new aesthetic to the band, a new sound. No longer the 90s punk rock that we are used to playing, but we are going to bring more risky and different things.”
Right from start, “So May Ways..”delivers … The title track“So Many Ways..” kicks off an album full of pure punk rock bliss.
Scumbags have a familiar sound but they have a style that is all their own, and it absolutely kicks ass .
Standout tracks on the album include “Elected”, “Sticks And Stones” , Through This Sidewalk and “Remedy”
So find a good spot and loose yourself in the punk brilliance of Scumbags.
We recently checked out Bristol (UK) based Alt Rock/Pop Rock band Mosaic and their new single “House”

Right out of the gate we were wowed by Mosaic and their big and beautiful harmonies, it most definitely got our attention.
House’ is the third Mosaic release of 2023. The band describe it as ‘a song about love and the terrible state of the housing market’. It follows the struggles of a couple getting onto the housing ladder and their love blossoming.
“House” is a smartly written catchy alt-pop song that is hard to ignore. Mosaic is a band with a fresh vibrant sound that we absolutely love.
Mosaic ( Jared McLean,L Vocals/Guitar, Chris Brain, Bass/B Vocals,Victor Minkov, Drums/B Vocals). are a band who are firing on all cylinders, and we can’t wait to see what they do next .

You can listen to “BackTo The Start” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here
You can check out the official lyric video for “Back To The Start below
Lead vocalist/guitarist Ryan DeMint of Nervous Kids says, “This is a song about experiencing emotional burnout. Doing everything in your power to overcome mental struggles but somehow always ended up right back at the start with nothing changing. I think this is a situation many can relate to, this song definitely helped me cope with that when I wrote it a few years back.”
Although the band didn’t officially form until the summer of 2022, the emo-punk project Nervous Kids began as a solo act during the COVID-19 lockdown of 2020. With live music making a comeback and mandates being lifted, the 4-piece came together with the lineup consisting of Ryan DeMint on lead vocals/guitar,Damian Morales on bass, Arturo Lara on guitar and Rodrigo Rosales on drums. The band’s music takes inspiration from both punk and emo, bringing high energy and fast tempos with lyrics that delve deep into human emotions, ranging from topics such as depression, love, heartbreak and trauma. Since the inception of the band, they have continued to play as many shows as possible around their hometown of southern california. In March of 2023, the band embarked on their first official studio session with producer Alex Estrada (Joyce Manor/Touché Amoré) and released their single ‘Anyone but You’ on June 27th.
Nervous Kids have definitely caught our attention with the well crafted “Back To The Start” . They are without question a band we will be keeping our eye on in 2024
We recently got a chance to check out the stunning new single “Never Win” from S/J ( the solo project of folk/punk musician Seth Jude Richard featuring Liv Wallace, thesingerof breakme!, who is also known for her countless acoustic punk covers which she shares on Instagram and Facebook.
You can listen to “Never Win” on Spotify Here and Apple Music Here
S/J says, “Never win is a song about meeting love and the things we do to keep it, or sabotage it. Some feel maybe we don’t deserve love.”
S/J,Seth Jude Richard, is a south Louisiana boy who now lives in Florida. Growing up in a French rich culture, his grandfather introduced him to Cajun French music and acoustic music at a very young age. By the time he was 9, Seth would pick up a guitar and start to dream big. At the young age of 12, he entered the world of punk rock and started on what would be a long journey of touring and many experiences. Starting his own band, Layden and the Lion, (Little Rocket Records) he would record with Aaron Gillespie of Underoath, who would also produce and play drums on the record,The Lucky Ones. He also played bass for Ten Foot Pole on the Escalating Quickly Tour a few years ago. After Covid, Seth decided to embark on a solo journey to release his upcoming debut album, “Black Magnolias”. With a hectic touring schedule and raising two boys, he sees no end in sight.

From the melody and lyrics “Never Win “ is total music perfection.
