We Are Over The Moon, For The Dollyrots Brilliant Cover Of “You Don’t Own Me”

November Tour with Bowling For Soup and Don’t Panic

We recently had the spectacular opportunity to check the magnificent cover of “You Don’t Own Me” via Wicked Cool Records, from beloved punk rock power trio The Dollyrots

You can listen to “You Don’t Own Me” Here.

You can watch the visualizer below

The mark of a great cover , is when the band stays true to original while at the same time adding their own vibe . The Dollyrots , certainly accomplished this with “You Don’t Own Me”

At a time when empowerment anthems are more needed than ever, the band is releasing a rousing, punked-up cover of Lesley Gore’s feminist classic “You Don’t Own Me.” The song was the idea of labelmate Brian Ray (Etta James, Paul McCartney), who co-produced and contributed guitar parts to the track.

The song is an anthem for female empowerment, about willing to be defiant in the face of something that’s just plain wrong. Sadly, it’s still just as timely as when Lesley sang it over 60 years ago,” shared singer/bassist Kelly Ogden.

With their signature mix of sugar-rush melodies, punk grit, and bubblegum sneer, The Dollyrots breathe new fire into Lesley Gore’s classic “You Don’t Own Me.” It’s part candy-coated chaos, part fist-in-the-air rebellion—hook-laden guitars collide with Kelly Ogden’s unmistakable voice, equal parts sweet and savage. More than a cover, it’s a technicolor punk anthem that channels the band’s playful heart and fearless bite—reminding us that freedom and fun can both be loud.

In addition, a limited-edition evergreen vinyl 7-inch single featuring the high-energy original track “Get On This Ride” and “You Don’t Own Me” is out now. The vinyl and an exclusive bundle—including the 7-inch, a t-shirt, and a sticker—are available exclusively at The Dollyrots Store and on tour while supplies last.

Fronted by Kelly Ogden (bass/vocals) and Luis Cabezas (guitar/vocals), with Simon Hancock on drums, The Dollyrots continue to deliver their infectious blend of attitude, melody, and heart that has become their signature sound.

The Dollyrots are hitting the road this November for a run with Bowling For Soup and Don’t Panic, culminating in a set at Vans Warped Tour in Orlando, FL. Tickets available HERE.

Parlour Bells Keep It Scary And Cool As Hell With New Single And Video “Slasher Movie Weather”

We recently had the chance to check out the new single and video “Slasher Movie Weather” from Boston base band Parlour Bells. You can listen to “Slasher Movie Weather” on Spotify Here and on Bandcamp Here . You can also watch the kick ass video for “Slasher Movie Weather” below

We are going to come right and say it we have always loved the sound and vibe of Parlour Bells, “Slasher Movie Weather” brings our love and appreciation to a whole new level.

The epic “Slasher Movie Weather” from Parlour Bells (Goddamn Glenn (vocals), Allison Sigrist (keys), Mike Leggio (bass), Tony Porter (drums) and Michael J Johnson (guitar). is the second single from from their new EP To Be Or Not To Behave and it arrives
packaged with a short horror film / music video written and directed by singer Goddamn Glenn and his wife and creative partner, burlesque performer Honey Pie.

Both the song and video are a nostalgic homage to the 1980s slasher movie aesthetic.
“One of my guilty pleasures on a sweltering summer night is sitting in my office with the AC cranked and watching some of the lousiest, cheesiest slasher movies from the 80s,” says Glenn of his inspiration for the song and video.

When asked about how women are presented in many of the slasher films of the 80s, Honey Pie says, “Growing up on those movies made me who I am today, where I want to be scantily clad and I want to see other women scantily clad. I always wanted to be the girl in the 80s music video and in the horror movies, and now I get to be both.”
And since no summer slasher movie is complete without a group of skimpily-clad campers, Honey Pie suggested that they gather some of her good friends and dance troupe members to take on these roles.

Of the dancers, Glenn adds, “You get so much more than performances from them. They are like this creative brain trust constantly thinking on their feet and so quick to provide a creative solution. They know so much about set and prop design, makeup, movement. I’m so lucky to have such fun and talented people in my life. This video would be nothing without them.”

Performing in the video alongside Honey Pie are dancers Maggie Maraschino, TraceyMuthafuckin” Vaughan, Abby Normal and Pearl Buttons. Maraschino and Vaughan were also responsible for all of the special effects, gory prosthetics and makeup. Also featured in the video is local drummer Mark Goveia playing the hitchhiker. Goddamn Glenn also delivers his vocal performance bloodied and face down in the dirt.

People ask us all the time about the music scene and artist community in Boston. We think both the song (Which is in our opinion a contender for song of the year ) and video are a perfect example of how special and close knit the Boston Music and Art scene is .

So get comfy and enjoy both the brilliant video and musical composition for “Slasher Movie Weather”

Adult Leisure Proves They Deserve Your Complete Attention With Their Latest Masterpiece “Borderline”

I often get asked “Why do you love music so much? While there are numerous reasons, The main reason is that it brings me absolute joy to bring attention to bands that need to be heard. Bristol (UK) alt-indie 4 piece Adult Leisure,is without question a band that deserves and needs to be heard .

The latest single “Borderline” is an absolute musical gem that we can’t get enough of . You can listen to “BorderlineHere.

We fell instantly for Adult Leisure and their brilliant alt-indie sound and with “Borderline “ the love affair continues.

Formed in 2020, the band released a string of celebrated singles before unveiling their debut critically acclaimed EP The Weekend Ritual’ in December of 2022, streamed over 60,000 times to date and championed by BBC Radio 1, Variance Magazine, The Independent, RTE and more, which soon saw the band embarking on multiple tours of the UK, earning a handful of rave live reviews along the way.

Borderline”, was recorded and mixed with Ollie Searle at Humm Studios and mastered by John Webber (David Bowie, Duran Duran, Coach Party). Rhythmically and texturally, Borderline is a clear continuation of what they built with their previous EP, yet there’s an added sense of urgency bubbling throughout. Rich melodies, radiant synths and explosive drums come together with Neil’s anguished vocals slicing through the atmosphere like a knife, lyrically exploring the emotions that come after the end of a long-term relationship.

Reflecting on the single the band explain: Dave had sent through a Police-y style demo back last April (2023) and we knew we wanted this to be the next release after our second EP, it felt like a continuation of our sound.

Borderline was inspired by the break-up of a long term relationship around that time for Neil and the feeling of hindsight in the months following it. We always try to write from a personal perspective, however these feelings are so common amongst people that there’s a strange balance of the situation being incredibly personal yet not alone. We allowed ourselves more time in the recording process to try new things and develop our sound, and with thanks to our producer Ollie, we feel it’s sonically our best song to date.”

We are absolutely smitten with “Borderline” and we can’t wait to see what Adult Leisure does next.

You can also listen to “The Spirit Of Massachusetts Avenue “ Here.

We have said in the past and we’ll probably say it another 1000 times but, we listen to a lot of music here at The Whole Kameese (We’re a music blog it’s what we do ) However there is something really special about “The Spirit Of Massachusetts Avenue “ There is an old expression “Four Chords And The Truth “

The truth is brilliantly delivered on “The Spirit Of Massachusetts Avenue .

The video does a tremendous job of providing the perfect visual for a phenomenal song . The video was directed by  the band’s longtime collaborator, Berto Media

“The Spirit of Massachusetts Avenue” is the explosive lead single to the acclaimed band’s new album, Something Like A War, set for release on July 26.

Like many who travel up and down “Mass. Ave.,” as it’s known by locals, Already Dead’s vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Dan Cummings was struck by the differences from one part of the city versus the other while the union pipefitter was working a Cambridge job in 2017.

The song is an observation that just one road can be two separate worlds caused by social structures and allocations of resources,” Cummings says. “And it delivers a very deliberate ‘#!$& you’ to those who have the power to change things in one of these worlds for the better, but choose not to.”

We recently had our day totally made because we got to check out the new video for “Trees Sway” from one of our absolute favorite bands – The Dollyrots (Kelly Ogden (bass and vocals), Luis Cabezas (guitar and vocals), and Simon Hancock, drums)

You can check out the stunning new video for “Tree’s Sway” below

You can also check out the phenomenal record, where “Tree’s Sway “ is from – “Night Owls” on DSP’s Here

Cabezas shares, I was gifted the song in a dream and woke up abruptly, turned to Kelly and said, ‘Turn your phone audio record on, I’ll be right back.’ I grabbed a guitar and played the whole thing, front to back, complete with lyrics in one go. That became the song, and when she sang it for the record, it took on a life of its own.”

We loved “Trees Sway” from the first time we heard it. We are simply over the moon , that there is now a visual for the track .

The band is set to embark on The Wrapped In The Sunshine Tours, hitting the West Coast in June with Diesel Boy and Go Betty Go on select dates, and East Coast dates in July with The Boreouts and Soraia. The full list of tour dates is below, and tickets are available Here

We were also so blessed to be able to share so much amazing music . We have made the difficult decision to put the blog on the back burner. At this time we need to focus on other important matters. The Shang Hi Los Share Spectacular New Video For The Irresistible “Op-Operator “

How in the world did we get so lucky ??? First we got the brilliantly crafted single “Op-Operator “ via Rum Bar Records, from Boston rock and roll and power-pop dynamo The Shang Hi Los ( You can listen to “Op-Operator” Here) And…. now today (Wednesday, March 20th ) we get the stunning video for “Op-Operator” which was directed by the incredibly talented Joan Hathaway.

You can watch the amazing new video for “Op-Operator “ below

The video was filmed filmed at Stereo Jack’s Records in Somerville and Nicole Tammaro’s legendary basement.

We love everything about both the video and single for “Op-Operator “ The Shang Hi Los are world class musicians with a world class sound. And… now a world class video

This is the sound and feeling that is fundamental to the band – upbeat, hooky, rich with layers of harmonies and guitars, and solid backbeat,” says D’Angora, who describes “Op-Operator” as “an instant mood booster” with its March release “timed perfectly for escaping the doldrums of winter.” Adds Kopko: “It’s been almost a year since our last release, so yeah, we are so ready to push some fresh music out there, like lilies from the frozen ground.”

The quirky storyline that comes to life in “Op-Operator” across its nearly three minutes of chewy, crunchy power-pop goodness plays out in kaleidoscopic color in the music video, where the band act out the scenes – and throw down a live performance. D’Angora praised Hathaway for being “so much fun to work with, and she’s got great ideas – luckily, we’re all a bunch of hams, so it was easy and a wicked good time.”

Do yourself a favor and check out the tremendous new video for “Op-Operator “ from The Shang Hi Los , your soul will thank you for sure
