We recently had the grand opportunity to check out the latest single, “NVR KNO”, from Boston chiptune collective, Battlemode. You can listen to “NVR KNO” Here

Battlemode bleep/bloop into the autumn season with a lively and unhinged new hyper-pop bop called “NVR KNO,” set for streaming release today ( Thursday, September 11)

We all need to level up in our lives , and we can’t think of a better way to do that than to bask in the 8-bit glow of “NVR KNO”, from Battlemode.

“NVR KNO”, is a euphoric tune, that is a kaleidoscopic cautionary tale about dating in the 2020s, arrives with a rainbow comet tail alongside a live show and dance party slate that will send your circuit board into overdrive.

It’s no wonder the panoramic 8-bit electronic-pop project of Biff, Astro, and Sam Mulligan enlisted two new members to the Battlemode posse, bringing sweet boys Leo (guitar/bass) and Isaiah (drums) into the mix to flesh out the sound and enhance the overall sonic attack.

There’s still so much left to do,” says Astro. “We feel like Boston Calling was just a stepping stone onto our future purpose. We still have an entire genre to define. We’re definitely getting a Grammy someday but for now we plan to write our best music yet, stay in Boston, and flood the city with amazing chiptune.”

The plan holds up. The “NVR KNO” drop is quickly followed by Hack The Planet, a 30th anniversary audio/visual orgasm co-hosted with Double Feature on Friday, September 12 that brings ‘90s cult classic techno-drama Hackers back to the Somerville Theatre, where Battlemode will perform live ahead of the film

After last year’s sold-out party, this year’s Hackers screening brings stars Laurence Mason (Lord Nikon) and Renoly Santiago (Phantom Phreak) to an all-evening rager that includes digital, binary code projections all over the 115-year-old theatre by Mike Videopunk; live remixes of the film presented by Double Feature (Wubson x Danny Aye), and an afterparty for the true believers of what the band calls “Hot Hacker Autumn.”

From there, Battlemode appear at the 2025 Moon Over Salem festival at Bit Bar in downtown Salem on Saturday, September 13, prepare their own Astro Fest for late September (details on that very soon!), and are busy playing a full serving of parties in New York City and all over New England — all while collaborating with other local artists and working tirelessly to get Willie Burmley Jr,. elected as the next mayor of their home base of Somerville

And let’s not forget the cherry on the chiptune cake….the Battle-bois are carefully growing the Boston chiptune community, planning potential live dates in Japan come 2026, and organizing the sophomore edition of their own Boston Bitdown, which pressed play earlier this year as instantly one of the largest chiptune festivals in the world, bringing more than 50 artists to the Boston area across five venues in three days.

Battlemode, has a lot going on and we are here for all of it.

Adult Leisure Have Us Singing Our Heart Out With Latest Single “See Her”

Adult Leisure join forces with The 1975’s John Waugh on new single ‘See Her’ & announce debut album and UK tour

We recently had the splendid opportunity, to check out the new single, “See Her”, from Bristol’s alt-indie four-piece Adult Leisureout today, featuring guest saxophone from long-time The 1975 / Sam Fender collaborator. John Waugh. You can listen to “See Her” on Spotify Here, Apple Music, Here and Amazon Music Here

In addition to the new single, “See Her”, Adult Leisure, is proud to announce, that their debut album ‘The Things You Don’t Know Yet’ will be released on October 3rd 2025.

The new track follows February’s celebrated release ‘Dancing Don’t Feel Right’, championed by The Line of Best Fit, Pop Journal and Ones To Watch. The album’s previous singles ‘Kiss Me Like You Miss Her’ and ‘Borderline’ saw support from BBC Radio 6’s Indie Forever show, The Line Of Best Fit, Fresh on the Net and multiple Spotify editorial playlists with ‘Borderline’ being used to open an E4 Made In Chelsea episode, their first national TV sync placement

See Her’, recorded and mixed with Ollie Searle at Humm Studios and mastered by John Webber (David Bowie, Duran Duran, Coach Party) is a blink-and-you’ll-miss it pocket rocket of vibrant energy. Through nostalgia-laden melodies and singalong choruses that Adult Leisure are fast becoming known for, ‘See Her’ offers a sarcastic take on the breakdown of a relationship and the biting realisation that you’re happier now that it’s over.

As soon as we heard the opening for “See Her” from the mighty Adult Leisure, we knew we were in for an incredible, irresistible musical experience ( We were right!) Adult Leisure, always brings boundless amounts of energy but they bring an extra jolt on “See Her “ and it’s glorious.

On the single’s lyrical inspirations, vocalist and lyricist Neil Scott explains, “We wrote ‘See Her’ towards the end of 2023. In its full form, almost two years later, it’s developed into a song unapologetically soaked in pop, yet true to who we are and the stories we want to tell. Lyrically, ‘See Her’ offers a sarcastic take on the breakdown of a relationship. Far from doom and gloom or sorrow, it’s about that feeling you get when you realise just how much better off you are now that it’s over.

The song features the incredible John Waugh (The 1975, Sam Fender) on saxophone. When we found out that he was interested in joining the project, we were over the moon – he adds the perfect bit of spice this tune has been waiting for since its inception. This song means everything to us, and we cannot wait for people to hear it and sing their lungs out to it.”

We have been absolutely in love with Adult Leisure , from the first time we heard them. We can’t for the rest of the world to fall madly in love with them ( It’s Gonna Happen!)

A 12 date headline album tour has just been announced, commencing at London’s Sebright Arms and ending at Liverpool’s Kazimier Stockroom including renowned venues such as Manchester’s Night & Day Cafe, and Bristol’s Thekla, their biggest hometown headline to date, tickets are on sale now and available Here

Our Nameless Boy Release Remarkable New Single & Video – “Dress Rehearsal “

We recently had the glorious opportunity, to check out the brand new single and video for “Dress Rehearsal” , from Bristol (UK) , based alt rock / emo band, Our Nameless Boy . You can check out “Dress Rehearsal “ Here You can watch the video for “Dress Rehearsal” below

We were instantly engulfed by the melodic wonderment of “Dress Rehearsal“, from Our Nameless Boy

Dress Rehearsal’ sees Our Nameless Boy return to the lyrical themes of introspection and self-analysis which made 2021’s ‘Colour From The Doves’ so unique. Exploring further the deep complexity of the human condition, vocalist Iain Gorrie delves into his learnings for a four-and-a-half minute crescendo of delicate, internally-directed frustration and understanding

On the lyrical content of ‘Dress Rehearsal’, Gorrie says ‘[the track] touches on the idea of reflecting upon a conversation or encounter and wishing you’d done or said something differently. My wife’s ability to think and process new information, as well as her emotions, and ultimately speak her mind with clarity and confidence in the moment is something I envy and try my best to emulate. More often than not though, I feel I need time to process and adequately verbalise whatever instincts I have, and that can be frustrating for me, and perhaps the people I’m with. The ‘Dress Rehearsal’ in question then is the imagining of how a situation could go – getting in the way of being wholly present in that situation.’

“Dress Rehearsal”, is a brilliant example of how when used correctly, the melodic and sonic elements of a song can add a spectacular new dimension to a song , this is on full display with “Dress Rehearsal “ , from Our Nameless Boy.

To celebrate the release of ‘Dress Rehearsal’,Our Nameless Boy will be touring the UK this May/June.

Our Nameless Boy are:

Ian Gorrie (Guitar/Vocals)

Ewan Simpson (Lead Guitar/Vocals)

Chris Brain (Bass/Vocals)

Will Purcell (Drums/Vocals)

Real Beaut Has Our Full Attention With Red Hot New Ep, “Politics”

Artwork Credit- Jason Zico

Every day we are giving stunning examples of why we love music so much. Today’s example, is courtesy of Boston alt-rock band, Real Beaut and their epically awesome new EP, “Politics”

You can listen to “Politics” on Spotify Here,

The Boston alt-rock band, composed of all those other rock and roll groups that soundtracked the gritty and messy underbelly of the city’s music scene over the past several years, unleash new EP Politics today, (Friday, April 4) . The official record release party goes down the following night at the band’s unofficial home base, The Middle East in Cambridge, leading a sparkplug bill alongside American Ethos, Dwelley, and Bad at Drawing

And regardless of where one may be on that Saturday night, the might and magnitude of Politics should be audibly heard far and loud. A powderkeg of a four-track record and the follow-up to 2023 debut EP Gentle Messages, it finds Real Beaut’s four members – guitarist Andrew Doherty; drummer and producer Benny Grotto, bassist and vocalist Johnny Northrup; and vocalist Keith Pierce – shifting into creative overdrive and embracing a new creative gear after years of collaboration, chemistry, and friendship.

Our excitement around releasing Politics is fairly boundless,” says Pierce. “We have been trying hard to keep this record under wraps. Creating new interesting guitar-driven music in a relatable, communicative way is difficult but Real Beaut is one of the finest rock experiments I’ve ever been a part of. This new EP is very different from some of our earlier productions but we tried to retain the speed and ferocity of our youth through practice, recording, and respect for the listener.”

An EP, like “Politics ”, is what happens when four next-level musicians get together and make the most spectacular-sounding collection of songs, we have heard in quite some time.

Even with each of the four blistering tracks all assuming its own sonic identity – confrontational opening banger “Politics on the Internet,” abrasively addresses what the title implies; the seismic “Paying Attention,” which hit Bandcamp early as an aural appetizer and has been described as a sort of grunge take on Van Halen; the hypnotic rock murkiness of ”Profane and Pedigree”; and the suffocating guitar assault of closer “Islands” – there is a cohesion that flows across the EP’s breathless and impatient 12 minutes of runtime.

Real Beaut always strives to find ways for building tension and allowing opportunity for release,” says Doherty. “Sometimes this is achieved by riding the line between discord and melody, or by letting the song sit in a sustained, dark pocket… festering or incubating, before breaking through and emerging as something new. These new tracks are a continuation of a process from our early work, but with more identifiable Real Beaut qualities.”

We hope to meet with the members of Real Beaut someday soon so we can personally congratulate them on crafting a stunningly brilliant EP, with “Politics”

Pollyanna Blue Delivers Mesmerizing New Single “Lovesick“ And It Is Absolutely Stunning

Single Artwork by Zoe Collins – Instagram: @Zoemakesart.png

We recently had the distinct honor to check out the beautifully crafted new single “Lovesick”, from South-West based Alt-Rock trio,  Pollyanna Blue (and in case you are wondering???…. It’s absolutely spectacular)

You can listen to “Lovesick” Here

You can also watch the video for “Lovesick” below

Those of you who are regular readers of The Whole Kameese, know that we are not in the business of hiding our emotions about bands that we love, And….. Without question Pollyanna Blue is definitely one of those bands . Returning with their single of 2025, “Lovesick “ absolutely sparkles .

An ironic Valentines Day release, ‘Lovesick’twists the very definition of the charming phrase, by exploring the notion that it might not turn out to be the idealistic type of yearning you once imagined…

Produced and recorded at Lower Lane Studios by Sam Bloor(roster including Heavy Music Award 2024 winners Graphic Nature, Dream State, Black Coast, Graywave, Mercury and Queen Cult, etc)‘Lovesick’ is an anthem for the disillusioned admirers and unlucky lovers on this years February 14th.

About new single “Lovesick”, Pollyanna Blue comment:

Lovesick”is a different take of the commonly used phrase and plays on the idea that falling for someone isn’t always a good thing. In this take, the feelings of infatuation isn’t one that is wanted and over time makes you feel sick of being in love.

Taking their name from the book ‘Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway’ which describes the nickname ‘Pollyanna‘ given to the optimistic, and juxtaposing that with ‘Blue’ to represent sadness even the most positive amongst us can feel, Pollyanna Blue started up in 2019 just before the world went into lockdown. As a band spread across Bristol, Exeter and Hereford, they adapted their songwriting process to sharing demos and creative ideas via online mediums until they were ready to meet up in Bristol and work on it in person.

Our first introduction to Pollyanna Blue , was in 2022, with the hypnotic single , “Haunted “ ever since then we have been hooked on the melodic and sonically pleasing sounds of Pollyanna Blue . ever since.

Musically, Pollyanna Blue have brought a little bit of something from each members music taste, Zoe bringing the melody and influence of 2000s emo and pop rock of bands such as Fall Out Boy, Paramore, My Chemical Romance, Rich bringing the heavy and alternative sonic of Garbage, Thornhill, Wolf Alice and Neil brining the high energy sounds from Vukovi, Gojira and YonakaThe three have created a modern punchy alt-rock wall of sound that sounds familiar in many ways, yet something that can only be defined to them

The musicianship, in Pollyanna Blue, is off the charts . “Lovesick “ is a song that surrounds all your senses and pulls you in close as you are awash in beautiful melodic tones that are woven between flawless, otherworldly vocals . Pollyanna Blue, has sculpted a work of art with “Lovesick”

The Brother Stereo Deliver An Absolutely Devine Musical Experience With Latest Single “Time In History “

Artwork by Emily Joy Ashman

Time in History’ is the follow-up to May debut single “After The Rain”

We recently had the absolute privilege to check out the new single “Time In History from Massachusetts alternative rock trio The Brother Stereo led by songwriter Michael Robert Kelly. You can listen to “Time In History “ Here

There is this beautiful mystique about “Time In History “ from The Brother Stereo. The melody slowly rises coupled with lyrics that feel like they come from a well know poetry anthology. Without a doubt “Time In History “ from The Brother Stereo is an artistic and musical experience that you cannot ignore.

With both an anthemic grandeur and an inviting, intimate core, “Time in History” is not your typical 2024 single. The follow-up to The Brother Stereo’s punchy debut May single “After The Rain,” the track engages an introspective sonic journey through its five-minute runtime, canvassing broad strokes across a spectrum of sound with a centered gravitational pull as flashes of indie, psychedelia, post-Britpop, and space rock dance across Kelly’s lived-in sense of lyrical storytelling.

“‘Time in History’ is about the insecurities and complacency of today’s world coupled with the nostalgia of growing up and the longing for yesterday’s world,” says Kelly, the brother of longtime Dropkick Murphys drummer Matt Kelly, and the beloved Boston punk band’s substitute touring bass, banjo, and mandolin player. “I think this song will be relatable to our generation very directly.”

Kelly adds: “Plus, we are just really happy with how it represents what we are capable of producing. It has depth and musicianship and both of those things are very important to the three of us. It’s open for interpretation, which is definitely the way I like to write.”

The “three of us” that Kelly refers to is The Brother Stereo’s new – and inaugural – lineup, featuring Shawn Pelkey on drums and percussion and Buddy Sullivan on guitar. The new additions that took The Brother Stereo from Kelly’s occasional side project to full-on rock band are inextricably linked to the evolution of “Time in History,” which has its own timeline baked into its formation.

Adult Leisure Proves They Deserve Your Complete Attention With Their Latest Masterpiece “Borderline”

I often get asked “Why do you love music so much? While there are numerous reasons, The main reason is that it brings me absolute joy to bring attention to bands that need to be heard. Bristol (UK) alt-indie 4 piece Adult Leisure,is without question a band that deserves and needs to be heard .

The latest single “Borderline” is an absolute musical gem that we can’t get enough of . You can listen to “BorderlineHere.

We fell instantly for Adult Leisure and their brilliant alt-indie sound and with “Borderline “ the love affair continues.

Formed in 2020, the band released a string of celebrated singles before unveiling their debut critically acclaimed EP The Weekend Ritual’ in December of 2022, streamed over 60,000 times to date and championed by BBC Radio 1, Variance Magazine, The Independent, RTE and more, which soon saw the band embarking on multiple tours of the UK, earning a handful of rave live reviews along the way.

Borderline”, was recorded and mixed with Ollie Searle at Humm Studios and mastered by John Webber (David Bowie, Duran Duran, Coach Party). Rhythmically and texturally, Borderline is a clear continuation of what they built with their previous EP, yet there’s an added sense of urgency bubbling throughout. Rich melodies, radiant synths and explosive drums come together with Neil’s anguished vocals slicing through the atmosphere like a knife, lyrically exploring the emotions that come after the end of a long-term relationship.

Reflecting on the single the band explain: Dave had sent through a Police-y style demo back last April (2023) and we knew we wanted this to be the next release after our second EP, it felt like a continuation of our sound.

Borderline was inspired by the break-up of a long term relationship around that time for Neil and the feeling of hindsight in the months following it. We always try to write from a personal perspective, however these feelings are so common amongst people that there’s a strange balance of the situation being incredibly personal yet not alone. We allowed ourselves more time in the recording process to try new things and develop our sound, and with thanks to our producer Ollie, we feel it’s sonically our best song to date.”

We are absolutely smitten with “Borderline” and we can’t wait to see what Adult Leisure does next.

Jean Paul Jean Paul Returns With Electrifying New Album “It Comes Back”

Boston based indie alt-rock sextet Jean Paul Jean Paul delivers beautifully crafted sophomore album “It Comes Back”

We recently had the opportunity to check out the lively sophomore album “It Comes Back” from Boston based indie alt-rock sextet Jean Paul Jean Paul (spoiler alert: this record is absolutely a must listen)

You can listen to “It Comes Back “ Here

So we are going to cut right to chase “It Comes Back”, from Jean Paul Jean Paul may not only be the album of the summer but, we would also loudly argue that it may end up being one of the best albums of 2024.

Courtesy Of The Band

From the first note on the electrifying opening track and red hot new single “Jai alai” it is crystal clear that Jean Paul Jean Paul are a musical force that needs to be heard .

The follow-up to 2022 debut Pollyanna, which boasted a Boston Emissions’ Song of the Year in “Bruiser,” this 11-track effort from Jean Paul Jean Paul finds desire at its thematic core, weaving tales of love, heartbreak, self-reflection, pain and joy as the cyclical nature of life plays out through a genre spectrum of guitar-rock that blends elements of jangle-pop, alt-rock, folk, reggae, grunge, and what the band itself dubs “guitarmonies

Every song on “It Comes Back” from Jean Paul Jean Paul could easily become your new favorite song of all time.

Our ears were in total bliss as we sang and danced along to “Girl You Like “ the chorus was absolutely amazingly addictive.

On “Mona Lisa” we may or not have danced ourselves into an absolute frenzy in our living room ( We are claiming musical research)

For a band named after a sleepy Seinfeld character, Jean Paul Jean Paul has a level of energy that is second to none.

Produced, engineered, and mixed by Benny Grotto and recorded at Mad Oak Studios in the band’s home base of Allston.

One major component that we all were striving for with this album was to capture the raw energy that these songs have when we play them live on stage,” says bassist Christopher Cornell. “Not to make a live album, per se, but to somehow thread that needle of raw live energy with amazing production value. The band isn’t afraid to incorporate any and all styles of music to avoid running the risk of becoming stagnant. We’re pulling from all of our roots and at the same time being open to what’s new.”

Jean Paul Jean Paul ( Steve Harding: Vocals, acoustic guitar, percussion, Andy Gelb: ,drums, Christopher Cornell: Bass, vocals, Andrew Cornish: Lead electric guitar, 12-string guitar, Warren Forbes: Lead electric guitar, vocals and Tyler Dell’Aquila: Keyboard, vocals) are a band who have a style and sound that is brimming with musical brilliance. Find your favorite music listening spot and get lost in the greatness that is “It Comes Back” from Jean Paul Jean Paul

Pollyanna Blue Deliver An Absolutely Otherworldly New Single With “Vultures”

For those of you who follow The Whole Kameese on a regular basis, know that when we find an artist or band that we are over the moon about , we can’t help but use our platform to tell the universe about how we feel about the artist or band . Well … there is one band that everytime they release new music we are immediately obsessed with . That band of course, is Bristol-(U.K.) based alt-rock trio Pollyanna Blue . ( Zoe Collins-guitar, vocals, Rich Earle, bass, vocals and Neil Loftus , drums)

We have been big on these guys since we heard their wicked single “Haunted” in October of 2022.

The brand new single “Vultures” is Pollyanna Blue at their absolute best . You can listen to “Vultures” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

We are absolutely smitten with the tone and overall sound of “Vultures “ from Pollyanna Blue. The members of Pollyanna Blue are all highly skilled musicians that bring a high level of energy that is simply magical and it is on full display on “Vultures

Vultures” is a lemonade track. By taking some pretty crappy lemons that life throws your way and squeezing out all of the sour anger, the band have created a ferociously riffy dessert rock track, ready for you to taste. Most people have come across a vulture or two in their lifetime and this song is a way of warning you to watch out for these greedy birds, to run away from them and to let them know they won’t get away from what they’ve done.

“Vultures” is a well crafted song with strong and memorable lyrics that stay with you long after the song has faded.

Lyrically the fearlessness of self expression and narrating themes of mental health and navigating human complexity fits well with the origin of the band’s name, which was influenced by the self help book ‘Feel The Fear and Do it Anyway’. These lyrics are backed by a vocal performance from Zoe, who brings a beautifully soulful yet aggressive power.

Zoe Collins gives a flawless and electrifying vocal performance that is couple with catchy and memorable melodies that make “Vultures “ an absolute can’t miss.

Gold Steps Shares Stunning New single + Video “Missing Out”

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out the new single + video for “Missing Out” from Milwaukee based alternative outfit Gold Steps . You can listen to “Missing Out”Here and you can watch the video below

GOLD STEPS is a vibrant female-fronted alternative band that has a high energy sound and vibe that is absolutely electric. “Missing Out” grabs your attention right from the start, Gold Steps is a band that you need to know about.

The single brings to light the relatable feeling that many people deal with of being enough outside of comparison of the others around us and the struggle that can ensue in one’s mind. When discussing the message behind the track, vocalist Betty Mauritz stated, “Social media is every artist’s cross to bear, and lately I’ve found myself slipping farther down the rabbit hole of comparison, envy, and exhaustion. It’s not enough to keep up with your neighbor; now you have to keep up with peers across the world. I crave the simplicity of shutting out the noise, and being able to be okay with who I am, where I am, without caring what anyone else is up to. Missing Out describes the internal struggle of closing my social media apps and setting down the phone, filled with confidence that I am enough for me…only to return within moments and curse myself for being sucked back into the filtered, cringey, oversharing mess of it all.”

When going through the concept of the music video for “Missing Out,” the band wanted to keep it simple but impactful. “The video features me walking alone through familiar spaces in the city, and though I’m surrounded by people, I don’t interact with them. Am I lonely and hoping to connect with them, confident and comfortable to just exist without anyone else, or wishing I were alone somewhere else? Do they even notice me, or is everyone too concerned with themselves?,” Mauritz shared. “Just like social media, being constantly exposed to other people can be overstimulating, inspire confidence, or leave you feeling incredibly lonely… sometimes all at the same time.”

“Missing Out” is an honest and authentic track that features flawless vocals and strong vibrant melodies. We are all in on Gold Steps , do yourself a favor and check them out, it will most definitely be the highlight of your day

“Faded” marks the outfit’s first new music since 2022’s ‘Welcome To Confusion’ EP, which was praised by the likes of Alternative Press, Under The Radar, Remezcla, Buzzbands LA, The Honey Pop and more.

Guitarist/vocalist Angel Mariscalsays, “’Faded’ is about two people being under the influence too often. It seems like a fun thing, but it’s not healthy. You see how bad it is in retrospect.”

I think this is the most bedroom song in the entire album because i literally made the entire thing in my room and just wanted the song to sound fun and short. I’d call this song a call back to how I started making music which was just that, all in the computer, all in one room next to my bed.”

We love the style and sound of “Faded” from Los Saints. They make music that you can feel in your soul, we can’t wait for more

The vibrant “Caffeine” was produced, recorded, and mixed by GRAMMY award-winning producer Bob St. John (Duran Duran, Collective Soul, Extreme) for PDQ Studios, with additional recording at Knyff Compound Studios. It should further elevate the profile of Tefft, the acclaimed musician who has been nominated in both the Boston Music Awards and New England Music Awards, while her compositions have been heard across international televisions on Cruel Summer, CSIStargate UniverseOne Life To LiveThe Young & The Restless and elsewhere.

This was the last song written for the album – and the first song we’ve really written together as a band and we are all wicked excited about how it came out,” Tefft admits. “We were still actually writing it in the studio, so it is fresh and new for us. Everyone we’ve played it for really responded excitedly to it, so it seemed like a no-brainer to make it our first single.”

Listening to “Caffeine” from Jennifer Tefft & The Strange is as magnificent as watching a beautiful fireworks display on the Fourth of July.We cannot wait for more….

Boston Based TELL Delivers A Treasure Trove Of Rock And Roll Greatness With Latest “Life In Reverse”

By: Jay Kameese

There is nothing quite like an amazing rock record . Boston based alt-rock band TELL(David Wildman, guitar and lead vocals, Jay Raffi, bass and vocals, Patrick Crann, drums and Jim Foster, guitar and vocals ) has done just that , with their new release “Life In Reverse” You can listen to the amazing body of work that is “Life In Reverse” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

The Boston Alt-Rock band TELL, is fronted by longtime musician, writer, and novelist David Wildman. Today (February ,9th ) the band releases the amazingly cinematic album , “Life In Reverse, with the release party tonight at The Middle East in Cambridge.

We were absolutely mesmerized by the new single “Owned” , we are now realizing that “Owned” is only the beginning. “Life In Reverse “ was crafted by the band in the studio with producer Benny Grotto of Mad Oak Studios in Allston, MA It serves as a cathartic release of pent-up tension by harnessing the headlines that dominate our newsfeed and filtering them though anthemic and highly-memorable alternative rock. It’s both confrontational and comforting, and underneath its gritty bark is a collection of six shimmering tracks that glow out of the speakers – and may even inspire a dance party.

We were instantly enthralled with “Life In Reverse” from Tell . We were reminded of those records you couldn’t wait to get home to and listen to for hours . “Life In Reverse “ is that good….

Every song has an authenticity and an energy that draws not from the past but also offers a new vibe and sound that is welcomed in today’s otherwise mundane musical landscape.

We were immediately attracted to the addictive melody of “Sweet Life “ vocally “Sweet Life “ is absolutely stunning.

Our personal favorite on “Life In Reverse” is without question “Shell” it is a well crafted gem that has a gorgeous tone to it that gives it a real classic feel that we absolutely love .

“Lyrically, the album is awash in the experience we all have of living through these dark, weird times together, connected mostly through social media,” says Wildman. “It’s nearly impossible to avoid politics for me, so a number of the songs make reference to the cult-like mindset of a huge chunk of the population out there.”David Wildman .

With the honesty of “I wish I can Believe In God “ and the pure brilliant cinematic feel of “Space Time Continuum” – “ Life In Reverse “ from TELL is a musical experience that you cannot miss.

Derek Smith And The Cosmic Vultures, Come Together As One To Deliver The Absolutely Stunningly Brilliant New Single “Waiting”

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out the new single “Waiting” from Boston based Alt-Rockers , Derek Smith And The Cosmic Vultures.

You can listen to “Waiting” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

We cannot contain ourselves any longer… We have been waiting for “Waiting” from Derek Smith And The Cosmic Vultures. And in case you were wondering ( we know you were…) the song is a cinematic, mesmerizing musical composition that is just stunning

“Waiting” merges the Boston songwriter’s solo material with his longtime indie band.

After forming roughly a decade ago, the Cosmic Vultures developed a reputation around New England for their electric live show and eclectic blend of genre-spanning rock and roll. But a few years back, frontman, vocalist, and principal songwriter Derek Smith branched out with solo material, unleashing the creative fire burning within. He released a pair of albums (2022’s Rubedo and last year’s Obscura) that explored new musical territories before October’s well-received and anthemic “Black Angel” single, all featuring members of the band, around the same time the Vultures were nominated for Rock Artist of the Year at the 2023 New England Music Awards.

Before the year was out, Smith and the band decided to merge and become a unified entity, re-christening the project as Derek Smith and the Cosmic Vultures, and the first offering in this new music chapter arrives today with “Waiting,” a celestial cruise through an alt-rock galaxy that was produced and mixed by David Minehan at Woolly Mammoth Sound in Waltham, Massachusetts.

The irony is not lost that Smith and the Cosmic Vultures quickly rediscovered their musical chemistry through a single called “Waiting,” as with both projects gaining momentum in the Boston music scene, the time was right to come together once again for a unified creative vision.

Waiting’ is about waiting for something to happen,” Smith says. “Waiting for the money to fall in your lap. Waiting for the big break. Waiting for death. Waiting for the chickens to come home to roost. It’s everything and anything you can be waiting for. But for me I always had this idea that maybe something will just happen. I was very wrong. Waiting for something to happen to you is a sad thing. I’ve learned that you need to go out and do it. Do what you need to do. Make your own luck.”

Smith always envisioned the final version of “Waiting” to have a big, galactic sound to it, something to be heard in the car while flying up and down Interstate 93. And after the grand ambition and skyscraper force of “Black Angel,” enlisting Minehan for that final studio polish and working with the Cosmic Vultureslead/rhythm electric guitarist and backing vocalists Jonathan Chesbro and Michael Strakus; bassist Steve Constantino; and drummer Dalton DeLima – made all the sense in the world. The three players were natural fits on “Waiting,” complementing Smith on vocals, B3 Hammond Organ, and rhythm guitar.

I wanted to do something a little harder for this one,” Smith admits. “I can do more than just soft and melodic. I didn’t think of it as the first song after merging, but more of the next chapter after ‘Black Angel’. I look at the body of work that hasn’t been released and sort of see what makes sense next. Maybe I was just tired of waiting to record this one.”

So far, merging Derek Smith the solo artist with Derek Smith the frontman of the Cosmic Vultures has been seamless, as the band continues to perform live around the New England area, taking part in the New England Music Awards’ Last Band Standing competition in March. With the two entities coming together, the catalog has now expanded to include five albums, two EPs, and now, with “Waiting”, there’ll be four stand-alone singles.”

Sometimes when you hear a song it just speaks to you … it’s not a planned event just something that just cosmically materializes. “Waiting” is not only is beautifully constructed but , it is also a song with a message that you can feel deep in your heart and soul.

We are absolutely smitten with “Watch Out” from Bristol To Memory . “Watch out” packs quite the punch , with hints of soul and funk with a punk vibe , “Watch Out” is an absolute gem.

“Watch Out” was inspired by the classic tale of a love-lost Frankenstein, on an endless search, only to find his demise lies in what he cares for the most. The song inspires urgency and an immediate reaction leaving listeners with a feeling of nostalgia, while still remaining newly inspired. “Watch Out” has a sound reminiscent of Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, and Panic! At The Disco while remaining fresh and innovative.

We can not wait for the upcoming full length album “Hello Anxious “ but , in the meantime we will have “Watch Out” on a permanent repeat .

The Dionysus Effect Deliver Haunting New Single With “Everything The Darkness Eats”

We recently had the opportunity to check out the new single “Everything The Darkness Eats” from New York rock trio The Dionysus Effect.

You can listen to “Everything The Darkness Eats” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here.

“Everything The Darkness Eats” is a song that immediately captured our attention.

The mood rich haunting new track is an ode to the award-winning novel of the same name by horror / dark fiction author and band friend Eric LaRocca. The single features chilling electric and haunting acoustic riffs that play tug of war against each other. Vocalist Christoph delivers a darkly feverish performance as he ruminates on the nature of our unspoken fears.

Members, Christoph Paul (lead vocals/ bass), Sean Quinn Hanley (guitar/backup vocals), and Brett Petersen (drums) are firing on all cylinders, as they execute a perfectly melodically and sonically pleasing gem- “Everything The Darkness Eats”

Christoph confides, “As a band, we are all huge fans of horror and really see horror and rock music as artistic siblings. With Eric’s novel, it took me back to being a kid reading and watching Clive Barker for the first time. Barker created such hellish memorable worlds with THE DAMNATION GAME and HELLRAISER and felt Eric did something the same with Henley’s Edge in EVERYTHING THE DARKNESS EATS. Eric’s book tapped something deep in me with my own trauma and battles with depression and I wanted to express that—luckily I’m a songwriter.”

Become one with the darkness and enjoy “Everything The Darkness Eats” from The Dionysus Effect

RLYBLONDE REVEALS “FANTASY” MUSIC VIDEO

Wow talk about a great week.. After years of being the go-to photographer for New York’s favorite indie acts, Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary artist Carina Allen, aka rlyblonde, is taking her turn in the spotlight. She released her first single “Fantasy earlier this week, and she is back today to reveal the song’s official music video.

Directed by rlyblonde herself and filmmaker Jisun Lee, the “Fantasy” music video is a playful riff on The Bachelorette. “I find The Bachelor franchise to be the strangest, most ridiculous, most engrossing socially accepted cultural phenomenon on television,” she says. “How the hell do you really get to know someone in 10 minute intervals? How real is your relationship when you basically fabricated romance the entire time?”

Starring as America’s sweetheart, she confronts the ridiculous, over-the-top displays of femininity that women are expected to perform, especially in hetero dating culture. In contrast to the unrealistic whirlwind romances depicted on the show, the “Fantasy” video descends into chaos and concludes with the bachelorette becoming a runaway bride.

The video serves as a luxurious introduction not only to the audio-visual world of rlyblonde, but also to the capacity of her other upcoming venture, HOT CREATIVE, a fresh on the scene creative production company geared towards musicians like herself. Founded with a team of music-industry professionals along with a rock-solid freelance network, HOT CREATIVE aims to work hand-in-hand with artists to help build their own unique “fantasy worlds” for their music to live in.

rlyblonde will be celebrating the music video release tonight with her debut performance at Heaven Can Wait in New York City.

The video is a stunning visual companion to an absolutely brilliantly crafted song . rlyblonde is an amazingly talented artist and we can’t to see what she does next . You can check out the video for “Fantasy” below .
