We recently had the distinct honor to check out the new single, “Wanted”, from Phoenix, Arizona, indie Folk/Americana singer-songwriter, Izzy Mahoubi. You can listen to “Wanted” Here

Blending influences from The Beatles and Fiona Apple, Izzy creates her own soulful folk sound with elements of classic rock. She writes her lyrics like she’s talking to a friend- disclosing deepest insecurities and unafraid to share blunt, sometimes comedic, details.

At just 20, Izzy has spent the last few years opening for artists around America such as Adam Melchor, Em Beihold, LAUNDRY DAY, Mt Joy, and more. “Wanted” by Izzy Mahoubi is an indie folk song about unrequited love for the worst person you’ve ever met! Drawing inspiration from Joni Mitchell and Mt. Joy, “Wanted” is a backyard picking, summer song, for the girls. Izzy writes about a man child who, “likes his women the way he likes his light beer-low commitment” with the self awareness that, “there’s something about not being wanted by someone”. Written and recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, the Lumineers-esk song features gang vocals from her best friends creating an anthem for friends to sing with/at each other.

When writing songs, it is paramount to tell the truth . The truth is real , relatable and honest. Izzy Mahoubi, brings all of this front and center on “Wanted” and it is a thing of beauty.

We can’t believe it’s been thirty years of absolutely incredible music from Authority Zero. And based on their blazing new EP, “Thirty Years:Speaking To The Youth they sound better ever !

The EP, titled Thirty Years: Speaking to the Youth,” is “essentially about believing in yourself and fighting for what you believe in,”frontman Jason DeVore says. “Whatever that may be.”

The lyrics reflect on the world he sees around him through the filter on his own experiences.

It’s about the journey of this life and the awareness of it all,” he says. Each moment good or bad. If there’s something that you love and feel a strong conviction about, don’t be afraid to stand up and speak about it, fight for it, be heard, and ultimately live and embrace it in its entirety.”

DeVore, bassist Mike Spero, guitarist Brandon Landelius and drummer Chris Dalley spent a week in Arizona writing “30 Years,” their first new music since the 2021 release of Ollie Ollie Oxen Free.”

So, it’s really what Authority Zero sounds like right now when you put the four of us in a room for a week,” DeVore says.

The bandmates then spent two weeks with producer Cameron Webb, who also took the helm on Ollie Ollie Oxen Free” and 2013’s “The Tipping Point” at Maple Studios in Santa Ana, California.

We absolutely cannot get enough of this new EP , right from the first note on “A Change In The Tide” we found ourselves in the presence of absolute punk rock goodness.

We love the energy on “Lights Out”, in our opinion, this song is best enjoyed with the windows in your car down and the volume all the way up . We got lots of looks dancing it out at red lights but who cares? …. If you can’t dance it out to an amazing song… what’s the point?

We love the ska/reggae feel on “Ways To Wage A War” Authority Zero absolutely shines on this amazing track.

With six amazing songs , it is almost impossible to pick a favorite but, if we had to… it would be without question “Long Way To Go” , we love everything about this song . Sonically and melodically perfect… an absolute gem.

The message and vibe on “Second Chances” is absolutely on point , we really like the melody and vocals on this track.

The final track on the EP is the title track “Speaking To The Youth “ is an incredible groove that is overflowing with energy . We had this one on repeat for days.

“Thirty Years: Speaking To The Youth”, from Authority Zero is quite possibly the best way to spend 22 minutes of your day.

Authority Zero Absolutely Shine With Latest Single “Long Way To Go”

We recently had the stellar opportunity to check out the new single “Long Way To Go” from legendary Arizona punk rock band Authority Zero. You can listen to “Long Way To GoHere

Not only are we getting a killer new single from Authority Zero, but the band is marking its 30th anniversary with the release of a new six-song EP titled Thirty Years: Speaking to the Youth, set to launch on November 1st.

On the new single  “Long Way To Go” , frontman Jason DeVore says, We’ve all been congested. We’ve all been broken at some point, and we’ve all been striving for a better day, every day. Unfortunately that doesn’t just magically happen. It takes work, it takes courage, and it takes consistency. Without that you’ll keep tripping up and taking steps backwards. It’s about realizing that if you change nothing, then nothing changes, so why would you not expect the same result time after time? You can’t just keep trying to convince yourself that everything’s fine and keep turning a blind eye to it, when you know it’s clearly not if you want change. Inner battles, social or political adversity, you name it. It will all just keep repeating itself until you start to recognize that a different approach is necessary. Even then, you’ve got a long way to go, and that is just the beginning.”

Authority Zero is one of those bands that absolutely brings it on every single song and, “Long Way To Go” is no exception. We are super excited for the new EP on November First .

“Kiss Like Me” is a cheeky rebuttal to a crush the artist had. She shares, “It is the ultimate “the grass is greener on THIS side” song. It’s fun and flirty and we wrote it as a fusion of old and new- it features a solid homage to Billy Idol, whom I love, & a modern nod to Olivia Rodrigo.”

From a very young age, Piper found solace and expression in songwriting, her compositions reflecting the raw emotions of life’s complexities and newfound experiences. Drawing inspiration from all manner of music, from early rock and roll, and jazz, to 90s grunge and ska with a steady undercurrent of R&B and soul, she’s worked to hone a sound that defies blunt categorization, blending elements of indie songwriting, alternative and pop into a storied sonic landscape.

Vinyl Station Delivers A Magnificent Work Of Art With New EP “Answer Slower”

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out the new EP “Answer Slower” via H1 Massive from Phoenix, Arizona-based indie rockers Vinyl Station. You can listen to “Answer Slower “ on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

The original Answer Slow EP, released on April 19, captivated listeners with its blend of evocative lyrics and soundscapes that merged the intimate with the anthemic. Answer Slower flips the script on those six stellar tunes, showcasing Vinyl Station’s musical versatility and intrepid sense of play in reworking anything from a given track’s timbre to its genre, while at the same time affirming the band’s sublime songcraft by uncovering new layers and nuances already present at the songs’ core.

Vinyl Station’s both timeless and contemporary sound as featured on the original Answer Slow has drawn comparisons to the likes of U2, Coldplay, The National, and The Killers. On Answer Slower, however, Vinyl Station taps a whole new vein of sonic discovery. Indie rockers like “Here Comes Your Ghost” and “Why Do You Wait” become piano and string-driven cinematic set pieces, while even greater stylistic deviations appear on the likes of “End of the World,” which evolves into folky stomp-and-clap evocative of Mumford and Sons. “Revolution,” mirrors its namesake with the most radical change of the bunch by shedding its indie trappings for lo-fi electronica.

Vinyl Station prove they are a musical tour de force who have delivered an absolute work of art with “Answer Slower”

This song is about staying confident and comfortable in your own skin,” says Asher. “I’ve always promoted being yourself and having confidence in yourself. With all the hate and negativity on social media, this song is about flipping the switch on that and highlighting positivity.”

Born and raised in Paradise Valley, AZ, Asher has been destined for stardom from a young age. He honed his acting chops in local community theater before getting his big break in 2017 on Disney Channel’s Andi Mack. In the years since, the now 21-year-old Asher has continued to come into his own as an all-around creative force. He has starred in films like Shazam!, Shazam! Fury of Gods, On Fire, and Darby and the Dead (which featured his original song, “One on One”), and has released a number of hit singles.

His 2019 collaboration with Wiz Khalifa, “One Thought Away,” became the number one trending YouTube video for 3 days, and has amassed over 12 million streams to date. He followed up the release of “One Thought Away” with singles like “Chills,” “All Day,” and “Guilty,” under the supervision of music legend LA Reid and his Hitco record label.

We love the style and feel of “Flip The Switch” from Asher Angel. It is nice to hear a new vibe and sound in today’s musical landscape. We have a feeling Asher Angel, is just getting warmed up

Kill Rock Stars and Asian Man Records release Teens in Trouble / Desert Mambas Split And…. We love it!

They say November is the month to be THANKFUL…. Well we are super THANKFUL for this epic Teens in Trouble / Desert Mambas Split EP via Kill Rock Stars and Asian Man Records.

The amazing split features two electric indie rock tracks from San Francisco-born, Raleigh-based Teens in Trouble and two moody bluesy alt-country jams from Los Angeles-based Desert Mambas.

We would suggest that if indie-rock is your thing that you immediately listen to the new split EP from Teens In Trouble and Desert Mambas because wicked good music is always a good thing …. And trust us this split EP is wicked good.

Teens in Trouble and Desert Mambasexplore mental spaces and places in their autobiographical and adventurous self-titled split EP, Teens in Trouble / Desert Mambas, out today. Created eight months after an exchange between friends Lizzie Killian of Teens in Trouble and Bailey Moses of Desert Mambas, the split is a playful yet cathartic musical project pulling from the experiences and work of both artists.

My therapist ghosted me for six months. So six times two hundred per session, Four times a month, carry the one… That’s a new guitar. And I don’t need a new guitar, I just need someone to talk to…” ( We here at The Whole Kameese can absolutely relate to therapy and buying musical equipment, so this on really hit home with us) Killian muses on in Teens in Trouble’s Sharon. Desert MambasNotes From Chicago” holds the existential indie rock theme steady, Even the desert will be crying tonight. Even the cacti will be wet with tears… cold and wet with tears tonight…” Tonally and lyrically, this EP provides the alternative rock that grazes punk and surf, the kind encapsulating the feeling we reach for when hitting play on Best Coast, Dum Dum Girls, or Alvvays. We are absolutely smitten with the retro feel/vibe from Desert Mambas

Teens in Trouble, the blazing, guitar-heavy, indie creative project of writer, guitarist, and vocalist Lizzie Killian, brings a follow-up from their debut EP released under Asian Man Records last fall, which has been featured in Alternative Press, BrooklynVegan, Consequence, Stereogum, and more. Teens in Trouble brings another emotionally-driven and self-expressive voice to one half of this EP. Just after recording Teens in Trouble’s debut full-length, Killian messaged Moses about co-writing a song together to which they responded by suggesting recording a split EP, “then one thing led to another, and here we are eight months later!” shared Killian.

The playful and in-the-moment nature of this EP coming together is reflective in the Teens in Trouble side of the split, bringing songs about being present in the moment and mental health, both based on true stories/experiences of Killian. The songs of this half are both emotional and locationally specific, with one of the songs “Winter in The Trap” referring to a small town in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina. Teens in Trouble’s tracks were recorded with friends guitarist/bassist/producer Randy Moore(Lektron, Dan Andriano & The Bygones), drummer Henry Chadwick, and guitarist Mike Huguenor (Jeff Rosenstock) at District Recording in San Jose.

Desert Mambas, the project of Los Angeles-based, Arizona-raised Foxx Bodies guitarist Bailey Moses, once again provides a refreshing voice through sun-drenched melodies with country and roots influences bringing in a biographical approach to their half of the EP. Following their debut EP, …But it’s a Dry Heat, a warm and breezy ode to trans joy that was released earlier this summer under Kill Rock Stars, Moses continues to dive further into themes of identity and personal experience while also being able to find a space for previous projects. “For part of this project I revisited some older ideas sonically,” shared Moses. “The song ‘Notes from Chicago’ was written a long time ago, and I’ve always liked it but didn’t know where it fit. Including it in this EP feels like finally getting to play with something that can be its own thing.”

This fuzzed-out, personal, dreamy collection of songs is released by the artist’s respective labels – digitally through Kill Rock Stars and on vinyl through Asian Man Records today, Friday, November 17. Asian Man Recordsstore has a green vinyl variant, Desert MambasBandcamp has red, Teens in Trouble’s Bandcamp has blue, and the KRS site has black. The digital EP can also be purchased on Bandcamp and streamed on major streaming platforms.

We know the word “important” can get thrown around incorrectly when discussing music. However, we believe that the split EP between Teens In Trouble (Asian Man Records) and Desert Mambas (Kill Rock Stars) qualifies as an important collection of songs because both in their own way do a brilliant job of exploring the different aspects of the human condition- and we think that is important.
