With haunting lyrics that reverberate with honesty and vulnerability, “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” is undoubtedly one of Leah’s most heartfelt singles to date. A dreamscape of sparse piano and minimalist production, her utterly breathtaking vocals take center stage. It’s an evocative and spellbinding reminder of Leah’s artistic breadth.

“Everything’s Gonna Be Alright “ from Leah Mason, might just be your new favorite song of the summer… you just don’t know it yet .

Leah Mason has crafted an absolute gem with her latest single . It is the fourth single from her forthcoming album, HEXED, out August 9th.

I’m a pro at masking my emotions and suppressing my feelings until I can deal with them later,” Leah reveals. “But the thing about emotions is they don’t wait for the most convenient time to bubble to the surface. This song is about surrendering to your mind and acknowledging how you’re feeling. Truthfully, that’s the only way to start the healing process.”

Leah Mason has found her place in pop music and she’s here to stay. The Nashville-based singer-songwriter, who People Magazine heralded as “an undeniable talent,” has captured the hearts and ears of millions since she burst onto the scene in 2021.

Determined to continue pushing the boundaries of her sound, Leah broke away from the familiar last year and ventured to Sweden to work with Simon Jonasson on her debut album, HEXED. After two and a half weeks, she emerged from the studio with a collection of meticulously crafted pop tracks. Across the album’s 12 tracks, she takes the intensity of young adulthood and bottles it up into a selection of universally relatable songs, ranging from tongue-in-cheek, angst-driven anthems to heartfelt musings. HEXED is without a doubt Leah Mason’s most confident, raw and real project to date.

We cannot wait to hear “HEXED” on August 9th because, we think it is going to be pretty special.

We recently had the privilege of checking out the debut album “spittake” from Nashville based indie-rock artist meg elsier

You can listen to “spittake” Here

Rising indie-rock artist meg elsier reveals her highly-anticipated debut album, spittake, and we think it is positively amazing.

Blending elements of grunge, contemporary pop, folk, and indie-rock, spittake showcases meg’s ability to create dynamic, versatile, and effortlessly catchy music. Across the album’s 11 tracks, she delivers musings on love, death, nostalgia, youth, anxiety, depression and everything in between, with a uniquely self-deprecating touch. “spittake” is one of those magical/ special records that stay within your soul.meg elsier has such a beautiful and unique sound that you can’t help but take notice.

photo credit: Jacq Justice (artwork & press photo)

The story isn’t necessarily linear,” she explains. “But the main connection throughout is this unreliable narrator that you as a listener determine your view/trust of. They are incredibly inconsistent with their statements but I believe they think they’re telling the truth.”

All of the songs on spittake were solely written and demoed by meg over the last few years. She later collaborated with Nashville-based producer Ryan McFadden to record the final product while still maintaining the DIY spirit of the album as a whole (the lowercase, uncapitalized song titles are a nod to the original demo names).

The delicate balance of noise and music was beautifully blended on spittakemeg elsier delivered an absolutely magnificent vocal performance throughout “spittake”

We loved the tenderness of the title track “spittake” and reveled in the beautiful crunchy noise of “iznotreal” One of the highlight tracks is the single “ifshitfuq” where we feel meg absolutely shines . If we had to pick a favorite track ( which is next to impossible to do ) we would choose “youngestchild” The vocals and melody on “youngestchild” are exactly why we love music- Bravo

Many artists tend to craft an album that is one sided however, on “spittake” meg elsier brilliantly makes each track memorable and unique.

Do yourself a favor and check out the debut album “spittake” from meg elsier it is an absolute can’t miss.

Lovina Falls Deliver Stunning New Single “Tragedy”

We recently had the privilege to check out the new single “Tragedy” from Lovina Falls . Lovina Falls is the brilliant art project of Mistle Thrush’s Valerie Forgione. The new single arrives before a headlining show July 6 at The Rockwell in Somerville.

You can listen to “Tragedy” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

“Tragedy” is a gorgeous lush track that is a beautiful example how Valerie Forgione effortlessly turns lyrics and sound into breathtaking art.

“‘Tragedy’ is loud and crunchy, but it’s authentic and still comes from the same place,” Forgione says. “There are similar elements that exist on Calculating the Angle of our Descent, but here they sit more at the forefront. I’m not a particularly angry person, but part of me is a little fed up with how people treat each other. So, I guess this is what comes from being fed up.”

Photo : Joan Hathaway

Though “Tragedy” exists in some unfamiliar lyrical territory for Forgione, where she reacts to an increasingly tense world around her instead of staying focused on the beauty that exists around the distant margins, the sound is still entirely her own. It has a fierce sense of forward motion, swelling with emotion and urgency that broadens her own brand of eclectic alternative rock.

The themes and sounds that Forgione brings to life through Lovina Falls , feels like a well written novel and with “Tragedy” we are hanging on every word.

“CL.1” is a record makes you immediately take notice . Clone is hardly a musical clone they have a vibe and sound that is uniquely their own.

The album opens with the well crafted gem “Room Of Tears” we found ourselves hanging on every word. The vocal performance on “Room Of Tears “ is absolutely stunning.

We found ourselves instantly drawn to “Dazzler” by the chorus we were eagerly singing along . Single, “Divided Line” shows a band that is in sync and on point .

Every song on “CL.1” is excututed with absolute perfection. However, if we had to pick a favorite it would be “Insides” Clone absolutely brings everything they have on this track and boy does it show – Bravo

We recently got the amazing opportunity to check out t Violet Sands, the bicoastal collaboration of Deidre Muro, David Perlick-Molinari and Derek Muro and their breathtaking new single “are you still watching?”

You can listen to “are you still watching?” Here

Evoking Y2K-era technological anxiety, the song takes the view of a streaming service achieving consciousness and hypnotizing the minds of viewers. We were instantly captivated by “are you still watching” from Brooklyn based Violet Sands.

The music of Violet Sands is an ethereal soundtrack for a rite of passage, harnessing the alluring vocals of Deidre Muro (Deidre & the Dark, previously Savoir Adore), the inventive production of David Perlick-Molinari (French Horn Rebellion) and the cinematic, classical-tinged arrangements of derek muro.

We are completely mesmerized by the stunning orchestration of sound on “are you still watching?” from Violet Sands. This simply is a track you can’t afford to miss.

Salem Wolves Deliver A Powerful Punch With Latest Single “November”

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out the blistering new single “November” from Providence based rock band Salem Wolves. You can check out “November” Here

Pro wrestling can serve as the perfect backdrop for high drama and pageantry.Salem Wolves have taken their electrifying brand of rock and roll and have thrown it into the ring with the upcoming concept album ‘The Psychotron Speaks’ out July 19 via Tor Johnson Records

We are all in on the sonically and medically new single “November”

The follow-up to May’s anthemic “So Desperate,” this blistering new track is the second offering from the Providence band’s forthcoming concept record, The Psychotron Speaks, which enters the arena digitally and on cassette on July 19 ahead of a release party in August

Where the towering previous single aligned Salem Wolves frontman Gray Bouchard’s unease and anxiety in the most personal of moments, the barnstorming “November” delivers the listener right into the fever dream narrative of the album, which finds Danny Morton Jr., a down-on-his luck ‘80s-era pro wrestler who would re-emerge as The Stranger in the long-gone Southland Wrestling Association (SWA). With a career on the brink of irrelevance, The Stranger taps into a mysterious power delivered from the Psychotron, an unknowable and unthinkable eldritch device capable of bending the world around it and creating distortion, both aural and psychological.

“‘November’ is a heel turn,” Bouchard admits. “It’s about that feeling of coming in hot after you’ve been away from the game for some time. It’s a heralded return – not necessarily ‘to form’, but as a means to remake yourself in bloody countenance. It’s about how time and circumstances, sometimes as simple as the changing of the seasons, can influence you and compel you to be harder, colder, and less trusting.”

“November” has the same adrenaline rush as “Frog Splash” from the top rope. Salem Wolves are firing on all cylinders and we can’t wait for more .

Looking Glass War Proves They Are The Definition Of Cool With Latest Single “See You In Hell, Liberty Bell”

We don’t like to beat around the bush here on The Whole Kameese so, we are just going come out and say it Boston based Looking Glass War is the definition of cool. Their latest single “See You in Hell, Liberty Bell” is hands down one of the best new songs of 2024 .

You can listen to “See You in Hell, Liberty Bell Here.

Fresh off an appearance in the semi-finals of Boston’s infamous “Rock and Roll Rumble,
Looking Glass War are set to release their first single off the forthcoming EP, “Saints of The Lost and Found “, set for release later this fall. Fans of the band’s driving post punk energy and soaring vocal melodies from their 2023 debut EP, “Where Neon Meets The Rain”, are in for a special treat as they continue to evolve their style with the new song “See You In Hell, Liberty Bell”.

Guitarist, Pete Zeigler and bassist Mike Ackley, established the foundation for the song, Zeigler
citing “a three parts equal mix of Chameleons, old REM and Stone Roses”. After the bones of the song quickly evolved creating a song that drummer Tony Porter describes as “one of ourmost interesting yet” with what singer Goddam Glenn believes to be one of the catchiest vocalmelodies he felt he had written for Looking Glass War to date.

Reflecting on the lyrics, Glenn explains “I wanted to write my own version of ‘here we are now,
entertain us’ from that little song you might be familiar with. So I came up with this line ‘inspire
us or die,’ which is obviously a much more menacing demand from the audience. That sets up
the overall ‘attitude’ of the song, lyrically speaking. From there on out, it’s the story of two
people trying (and failing) to establish a relationship in a world that’s falling apart around them.
They are angry and cannot decide whether it’s each other to blame or the rotten state of the
world in which they are trying to make something beautiful emerge.”

“See You In Hell, Liberty Bell” creates an awareness within the band that they have raised the bar on what they can create through a deeper commitment to collaboration and experimentation. “See You In Hell, Liberty Bell” was produced and m astered by Brian Charles Recorded at Rare Signals

If the love of music runs deep in your soul, then Looking Glass War is without question a band that you need in your life . From top to bottom “See You In Hell ,Liberty Bell “ is a melodic work of art with flawless vocals .

Pollyanna Blue Deliver An Absolutely Otherworldly New Single With “Vultures”

For those of you who follow The Whole Kameese on a regular basis, know that when we find an artist or band that we are over the moon about , we can’t help but use our platform to tell the universe about how we feel about the artist or band . Well … there is one band that everytime they release new music we are immediately obsessed with . That band of course, is Bristol-(U.K.) based alt-rock trio Pollyanna Blue . ( Zoe Collins-guitar, vocals, Rich Earle, bass, vocals and Neil Loftus , drums)

We have been big on these guys since we heard their wicked single “Haunted” in October of 2022.

The brand new single “Vultures” is Pollyanna Blue at their absolute best . You can listen to “Vultures” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

We are absolutely smitten with the tone and overall sound of “Vultures “ from Pollyanna Blue. The members of Pollyanna Blue are all highly skilled musicians that bring a high level of energy that is simply magical and it is on full display on “Vultures

Vultures” is a lemonade track. By taking some pretty crappy lemons that life throws your way and squeezing out all of the sour anger, the band have created a ferociously riffy dessert rock track, ready for you to taste. Most people have come across a vulture or two in their lifetime and this song is a way of warning you to watch out for these greedy birds, to run away from them and to let them know they won’t get away from what they’ve done.

“Vultures” is a well crafted song with strong and memorable lyrics that stay with you long after the song has faded.

Lyrically the fearlessness of self expression and narrating themes of mental health and navigating human complexity fits well with the origin of the band’s name, which was influenced by the self help book ‘Feel The Fear and Do it Anyway’. These lyrics are backed by a vocal performance from Zoe, who brings a beautifully soulful yet aggressive power.

Zoe Collins gives a flawless and electrifying vocal performance that is couple with catchy and memorable melodies that make “Vultures “ an absolute can’t miss.

Kait Warner Has Crafted An Absolutely Mesmerizing Debut Album “Rodeo Clown”

We were first introduced to the spellbinding and beautifully mysterious music of New York City based singer-songwriter and pianist Kait Warner back in May of 2023 with the release of her breathtaking debut single “Over Again” as we said in our original review “Warner carefully weaved images and tones of darkness and magnificently made them shine”.

Now we have been given a musical gift of epic proportion , as Kait Warner delivers her stunning debut album “Rodeo Clown”

You can listen to “Rodeo Clown“ on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

On “Rodeo Clown” Kait Warner artfully and authentically examines both the brightness and darkness within the human condition.

The opening track, “Future” has a county/americana soul mixed with a indie pop heart.Warner, effortlessly is able to take many different tones and sounds and create musical works of art. (This a common theme throughout “Rodeo Clown”

On the album’s title track “Rodeo Clown” Kait Warner shows hints of musical brilliance. “Rodeo Clown “ is the kind of song that you remember and it never really fades, always staying with you .

Rodeo Clown is the emotional centerpiece of the album. Here, with almost a whimsical flair, Kait expresses the destabilizing feelings of the album’s core topic of deep meaningful friendships suddenly and dramatically ending. “There also definitely a crush element to this song as well. It’s about making yourself into a fool for the person you’ve fallen for, and the deliciously agonizing back and forth between two people who want each other but whose egos get in the way,” Kait reveals

We love the mysterious feel of “Good Behavior “ In our original review of “Good Behavior we commented “Good Behavior “ has a realness and authenticity that you just can’t fake . Kait Warner is a skilled songwriter who creates songs from the heart .Kait not only wrote “Good Behavior “, she also arranged the song as well”.

One of our favorite songs on the record is the beautifully written “23” We love everything about this song . Kait gives a stunning vocal performance that is otherworldly “23” has all the elements that make Kait Warner stand out in a musical landscape that is at times mundane.

Rodeo Clown was recorded at Business District Recording in Johnson City, New York, a space bursting at the seams with a wild assortment of vintage gear and musical instrument curiosities—many of which were used during the sessions. Joining Kait in the studio is producer Hunter Davidsohn (Porches, Frankie Cosmos, Sheer Mag, and Bethlehem Steel), percussionist and coarranger Spencer McKee, bassist and brass instrumentalist Daniel Thomas, violinist Raina Arnett, guitarist Ryan Sheehan, and drummer Elli Caterisano

“Rodeo Clown” from Kait Warner, is a must listen. If you love music you will love “Rodeo Clown “ from Kait Warner

Bird Language Offer Up Soaring New EP “Chasing Echos”

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out the new “Chasing Echos EP from Boston based indie rock band Bird Language.

You can listen to “Chasing Echos “ from Bird Language here.

There is something absolutely magical about the new EP “Chasing Echos “ from Boston based indie rock band Bird Language. From the first note on “Slow Shove” which the band released in May,we were swept away by a sound that quickly opened our eyes to the melodic goodness of Bird Language. The summer vibe is definitely in full effect on “Chasing Echos” We found ourselves grabbing hold of the beautiful wave of sound that was carefully and wonderfully constructed by Bird Language on “Chasing Echos”

“Chasing Echos is about the nostalgia of warm summer nights, swimming with friends under starry skies,” says guitarist Andrew Doherty. “The good stuff we all miss when we are in traffic on I-93 South or sitting on the T en route to our day jobs.”

Recorded by Benny Grotto at Mad Oak Studios and mastered by Will Benoit at The Radar Studio, Chasing Echos is comprised of four tracks: Last year’s yearning lead single “Heartbreak Summertime,” which landed on Boston Emissions’ short list for Song of the Year; punchy new single and alt-country-ish opening track “Slow Shove,” which hits the streams ahead of the band’s show last month at Sonia in Cambridge; the expansive and layered “Perdido”; and a gripping instrumental ripper called “Full Voltron” that pays homage to early Smashing Pumpkins (the band often performs classic Pumpkins’ track “Rocket” in their live sets).

We’ve been holding onto these songs since 2022 and it’s sort of a level up in terms of our intentionality and songwriting; leaving room for vocals, and allowing ourselves to get a little quieter and a little louder at the same time,” says guitarist Neil Simmons. “So it’s a bit cathartic to get it out there. Trying to write songs, not just for the sake of putting some sounds out there, but leaving room for vocal melodies.”

“Chasing Echos” from Bird Language feels like the perfect summer night campfire , starting slowly with only a few sticks, but gradually catching fire giving way to a giant bright glow that stays with you long after the fire fades .

Soak up summer and enjoy the brilliant sounds of “Chasing Echos” from Bird Language.

The Amplifier Heads Deliver Otherworldly Goodness With New Album, “Songs From They Came To Rock”

We recently got the amazing opportunity to check out The Amplifier Heads new album “Songs From They Came To Rock” which is available today (April 5th) via Rum Bar Records . You can check out “Songs From They Came To Rock” on Bandcamp Here

Courtesy Of The Artist

This record is the soundtrack to executive producer Norty Cohen’s immersive rock opera about an alien invasion and its undeniable connection to rock and roll. Amplifier Heads leader and Boston music scene icon Sal Baglio has crafted a masterclass in extra-terrestrial rock with a sound that spans decades, compiling an all-star crew — Dave Mattacks, Jen D’Angora, Dan Kopko, Barrence Whitfield, Richard Hilton (Nile Rogers Band), Henley Douglas Jr., and Tom West (Peter Wolf) — for a 10-track, eight transmission interlude record.

First debuting in Nashville three years ago and receiving praise from Rolling Stone, Cohen’s theatrical production of They Came To Rock details a story about friendly little green men coming to Earth – which they call The Vinyl Frontier – in search of the type of music heard through static and noise on their radio.

The term rock opera has come to mean different things to anyone’s interpretation,” Baglio says. “There is a lyrical and musical line that follows through the record. Some fantasy, some fact. It is a musical speed rocket trip and the seat belt sign is off!”

“Songs From They Came To Rock” from The Amplifier Heads, is literally a musical work of art that is out of this world.

We first came into contact with “Songs From They Came To Rock “ by way of the epic title track “They Came To Rock,” featuring Barrence Whitfield.

Songs From They Came To Rock is very different from all of my previous Amplifier Heads records which are essentially recorded solo with the assistance of one or two other musicians,” says Baglio. “With it being a soundtrack, I chose to work with many good friends which gives the record an entirely varied and different sound than anything prior.”

There’s Whitfield declaring arrival with a soul dynamo fever on the title track; D’Angora shaking out a ‘60s retro-pop bop in “Something Went Down,” about the most famous UFO event in England’s history, taking places at Rendlesham Forest on Christmas 1980; and a ‘70s psych-glam transmission through “Bienvenue” and Kopko’s Dead Star.” Early single “Space Cadette,” a riff-rocking shaker that landed in 2022 and received heavy airplay and attention on Little Steven’s Underground Garage on SiriusXM, details Betty and Barney Hill’s 1961 encounter of a UFO on a deserted highway in New Hampshire.

“Songs From They Came To Rock” is an intergalactic musical experience, that you can’t afford to miss.

Alberta Cross Team up with Band Of Skulls to Deliver Sensational New Collaborative single “Born In Amazement”

Recently we had the opportunity to check out the new collaborative single “Born In Amazement “ from Alberta Cross and Band Of Skulls out today ( April 5th ) via Dark Matter / Austral Media.

You can listen to “Born In Amazement “ on Spotify Here and Apple Music Here .

Meeting for the first time in 2009 after both being picked up by labels, and then countless times serendipitously over the years whilst simultaneously touring the world, it’s a surprise that their creative meetings of the minds hadn’t come sooner.

The track was produced by Russell Marsden, Marc MacNab-Jack and Petter Ericson StakeeBorn In Amazement seeks to see the good in the world, past the conflict, the hate and the chaos, with childlike wonder.

We were channeling Bowie…And the Boss. Singing until our throats were like razor blades. In a world full of conflict and chaos we try to remember we’re born with no hate in our hearts, and look at the world in wonder and amazement. Even if we lose our way, it’s worth searching for peace, fighting for love”, says Russell Marsden of Band Of Skulls.

Describing the lyrical themes behind the collaboration, Petter Ericson Stakee of Alberta Cross states, I love the sleazy upbeat glam feel of this one. Marc Bolan would have been proud. Once again very lush to be creating art with these two dudes. Lyrically I feel like it’s bang on where we’re at in the world. Too much damn evil and no compassion out there for your fellow humans. This song still feels hopeful though. Let love win. Let love in. I hope we get to play these songs together at a cool festival somewhere soon…They’re made for that joyous experience!”

We absolutely love the vibe and energy of “Born In Amazement “ is a collaboration from Alberta Cross and Band Of Skulls that is an absolute delight.

Chasing Kites Soar To New Heights With Beautiful New Single “Collide”

We are absolutely abuzz about the new single “Collide” from Bristol ( UK) based indie four piece Chasing Kites . You can check out “Collide” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here .

Recorded with Sam Winfield (Amber Run, Bring Me The Horizon) at Studio 91, the track is one close to vocalist Matt Donnelly‘s heart, telling the story of how his parents met.

writing of Collide took me into unexplored territory in terms of the lyrical content. The track tells the story of how my parents fell in love in somewhat unusual circumstances, in that my dad was already married, and my Mum in a long-term relationship. I find it incredibly romantic how their love for one another was strong enough to overcome this. I’d been keen to incorporate this story into a Chasing Kites track for a while and for whatever reason, this piece of instrumentation felt like the perfect opportunity”,says Donnelly.

In terms of the arrangement, the track was handed over to me by our guitarist Liam in a state where it was essentially fully formed as an instrumental. I lived with the track for a few days and wrote the melody shortly after. As is generally the case with our tracks, the lyrics took a lot longer to take shape. As this story means so much to my family, it was important that I did it justice.”

Chasing Kites were originally founded by frontman Matt Donnelly and guitarist Liam Hope in 2021. After a long search for a rhythm section, drummer James Hunt and bassist Nathan Price were drafted in to complete the band’s electric sound. Hailing from Bristol and named as a BBC Big New Sound, the group intertwine dynamic hooks, 80s synth textures and vivid narratives, capturing reflections on the stories of Donnelly’s youth. With echoes of Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Verve and The 1975, the band have already conjured an arena-ready sound at a tender age.

There is this beautiful emotion of love that surrounds “Collide” from Chasing Kites . We were immediately touched by the stunning orchestral presence on “Collide”, that gives the track a real cinematic feel

We are big fans of lyrics here at The Whole Kameese and “Collide “ is a beautifully written musical composition that is absolutely brilliantly written.

With help from fellow Private Dicks‘ guitarist and life-long friend Paul Guiver and long-time Tears For Fears and Robbie Williams guitarist Neil Taylor – who also took on the production of the album – Skeletons is eight tracks of dark, catchy, post-punk angst.

From the first note on “Shark Eyes” it is clear that “Skeletons “ is a genuine work of musical art.

As we noted last week “Profiled “ is a song that cannot be missed . you can check our review of “Profiled” Here.

“Blood and Blues” is a well written Bluesy, soulful and cinematic track that , literally will take your breath away – spectacular . We love the haunting end line in “Blood and Blues “I hope I die Before I get old”

When asked about how the album came to be , Gav shares : “Everything that’s released now is viewed through the prism of the pandemic, Gavin reflects from his apartment in Bristol. “And in many ways, this is no different. Like everyone else I had been indoors for ages, but once I completed Netflix and finished arguing with the cat, I began to look at the state of the world today. And once I started doing that, I started looking back at my own life. Then before you know it a bunch of songs are sitting on my hard drive.”

Skeletons’ will be available on a limited edition (300) vinyl via Heartbeat Records.

“Blood Orange Wine”, is the last of the trilogy and is an upbeat indie pop bop. She confides,”The song is about the adrenaline wearing off after being emotionally yanked around by a person I loved. For months I was turning to vices to bury the pain and I soundtracked this period of my life with a lot of Fleetwood Mac and Electric Light Orchestra. I’m not surprised they ended up having a huge influence on how the record ended up sounding. It turns out that time is the only thing that truly heals, and honestly thank God for that.”

Canyons and Locusts Deliver Heavenly Beautifully Perfect Noise With New EP “The Red Angel “

Full disclosure we here at The Whole Kameese LOVE Music, truth be told it’s our spirit animal. But sometimes we come across a collection of music that is Beyond LOVE it’s so good, that it’s next level. “The Red Angel“ from Boston and Phoenix melodic noise-rock duo , Canyons and Locusts definitely fits that description.

The EP is dedicated to the late Justine Covault, a tireless supporter of the band and whose Red on Red Records released their previous album.  You can listen to “The Red Angel” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

Photo Credit: Courtesy of Canyons and Locusts

We have been slowly falling deeper and deeper in love with the electrifying music from “The Red Angel”, due in part to a quartet of singles dating back to last fall. The six song EP, is only 13 minutes in length but the number of emotions you feel during the EP is truly endless. “The Red Angel” is the kind of EP, that is absolutely everything and then some. Melodically and sonically perfect in every possible way .

From the opening of “To Art Bell” all the way through to “Wave Out Sunkiss “ the listener is taken on a breathtakingly awesome musical journey that you won’t soon forget . The songs are loud , catchy and perfect .

“Soo All The Way” is a such a memorable and catchy gem , that we have caught ourselves on numerous occasions busting out the chorus in the most unexpected places. ( Your Welcome aisle 12 at Market Basket) Honestly, from top to bottom “The Red Angel” doesn’t disappoint.

We found ourselves going back to all six tracks again and again, music this good shouldn’t be left unplayed. We really fell a connection with the track “Donna Summer “ the longest song on the EP comes across so heartfelt it’s hard not get emotional .

But underneath the tense, barnstorming surface is a tender core, one that finds vocalist and guitarist Justin Keane and drummer Amy Young bound by common interests – a feverish approach to crafting gritty, weathered rock and roll; a genuine trust in the other’s ability to understand the Canyons and Locusts core sonic identity; and a mutual love and appreciation for Justine Covault, the late Red on Red Records founder who passed away last summer, less than a year after her label released their debut album, Roll The Dice, in 2022.

If we were making any statement with this record, it would be to just make loud, heartfelt noise in service to and in honor of your feelings, the people in your corner, and the things and people you love and who love you back,” says Keane

And Young agrees, adding: “I think both in honor of Justine and aligning with our personal approaches to life, it’s just about doing what you want – things that don’t hurt anyone, don’t trample on anything, and are just pure acts of making the music you want with the people you want to and hoping that people can feel what it means to us…or even just get a line stuck in their head and come back for more.”

Its title a not-so-subtle nod to Covault’s colorful hair color and personal brand, The Red Angel is a cathartic release of pent-up tension, a fiery and impassioned record that redefines notions of “noise-rock” and ignores convention

Life is too short . Music is love. Fall in Love With “The Red Angel” from Canyons and Locusts.

Kayla DiVenere Delivers Heartfelt New Single “Small Talk”

We recently had the opportunity to check out Montreal-born, LA-based singer, songwriter, model & actress Kayla DiVenere and her new single “Small Talk” . You can listen to “Small Talk” Here

Following recent hit singles like “Date Myself” and “Jumping the Gun,” the LA-based artist delivers another punchy alt-pop earworm with her new single, “Small Talk.” Kayla created the song with producer/songwriter Jordan Witzigreuter (The Ready Set) and songwriters Maia Kelly and Zach DeGaetano.

At just 20-years-old, Kayla’s catchy yet introspective lyrics perfectly capture the highs and lows of young adulthood. On “Small Talk,” her honeyed vocals tell the story of a secret crush she has on her brother’s best friend.

I created ‘Small Talk’ in my longing to have more than a fleeting 5 minute conversation with my crush every time he would come over,” she opens up. “My imagination ran wild and I found myself aching for something like a John Hughes romance movie about a secret love, complete with a boombox outside my window and a mixtape of his favorite songs. After rewatching every romance movie I could find, I decided that instead of torturing myself, I should write this song in an attempt to pour my heart out and make sense of my desire for something more than small talk.”

We love everything about “Small Talk” from Kayla DiVenere . It is an honest and authentic track that is very well written. We can’t wait for more from Kayla DiVenere.

“They Came To Rock” From The Amplifier Heads Featuring Barrence Whitfield Is Truly Out Of This World.

Photo and design credit: Sarah Downen

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out the sonically perfect new single “We Came To Rock “ via Rum Bar Records. from Sal Baglio’s phenomenal rock and roll project The Amplifier Heads which also includes the soulful “once in a lifetime “ vocals of Barrence Whitfield

You can listen to “We Came To Rock” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here.

We Came To Rock”, is the title track to the soundtrack of They Came To Rock, Executive Producer Norty Cohen’s immersive rock opera about an alien invasion that first debuted in Nashville three years ago, detailing a story about extraterrestrials coming to Earth – which they call The Vinyl Frontier – in search of the type of music heard through static and noise on their radio. Who are they, and what do they want?

“We Came To Rock “ is an absolute blast. We fell instantly for the vibe and sound of this gem of a track.

Ready to rock out, the aliens have now landed close to home, as the pair of longtime Boston music scene veterans – known for work that spans decades: Baglio first in rock scene pioneers The Stompers; Whitfield dominating stages across New England fronting The Savages – come together for a fiery and attention-grabbing single that sets a loud tone for the 10-song, eight interlude soundtrack.

The term rock opera has come to mean different things to anyone’s interpretation,” Baglio says. “There is a lyrical and musical line that follows through the record. Some fantasy, some fact. It is a musical speed rocket trip and the seat belt sign is off!”

“They Came To Rock” is the third single from the forthcoming record, following last fall’s Jen D’Angora-led “Something Went Down” – about the most famous UFO event in England’s history, taking places at Rendlesham Forest on Christmas 1980 – and 2022’s “Space Cadette,” which received heavy airplay and attention on Little Steven’s Underground Garage on SiriusXM, about Betty and Barney Hill’s 1961 encounter of a UFO on a deserted highway in New Hampshire.

Written and produced by Baglio, who also performs guitar, mellotron, glockenspiel, and backing vocals, “They Came To Rock” features Samantha Goddess on vocals; Brad Hallen on bass; Kevin Rapillo on drums and percussion; Tom West on piano; Henley Douglas Jr. on baritone sax; and David Bryce on theremin. But it’s Whitfield who helps take it across the galaxy and back again, hurling through his vocals like a man possessed.

We are absolutely mesmerized by the stunning brilliance of “We Came To Rock” from The Amplifier Heads featuring Barrence Whitfield. This is one magnificent track you can’t miss.

Päter Delivers Cinematic Gem With “Catching Cold”

We recently had the opportunity to check out the new single “Catching Cold” from Toronto based indie rock artist Päter.

You can listen to “Catching Cold” Here

On swells of cinematic strings, Päter’s latest single the nocturnal “Catching Cold,” chases elusive memories. During the writing process when the song’s pieces finally fell into place, Päter knew it was about their childhood immigration from Iran which left them with the feeling that something intangible was missing. Its sprawling piano offers a peephole into that recollection, the longing it brings, and the “endless itch in my coat” it has left.

In 2020, Parmida emerged as Päter with their first single “Dam, Damn,” a well-received debut that’s amassed 2.4M streams and counting. It opened the doors to the Päterverse, a sonic space inspired by coming-of-age narratives and Päter’s early influences (The Strokes, Kate Bush, Mother Mother) with writing that lives somewhere between Muse and Hillary Duff (yes, really).

The resultant mix’s compelling character and extravagance hint at artists like Neko Case, HAIM, and Fiona Apple with more dissonant forms of melody and harmony derived from the classical Iranian music absorbed during Päter’s youth. After two vibrant EPs, Päter’s forthcoming debut LP 4-7 Company explores the evening hours between work and social life when solitude leads to wandering thoughts.

We love the beautiful and majestic feel of “Catching Cold” Päter, brilliantly has put together a song that is truly a musical gift .

After two vibrant EPs, Päter’s forthcoming debut LP 4-7 Company explores the evening hours between work and social life when solitude leads to wandering thoughts.

During the writing process, which largely took place over their time in a theatre program, Päter was inspired to look inward and confront blocks that lived in their body and mind. It initiated a painful yet positive transition of examining depression and doubts, digging out demons, and charting chaos and cognitive dissonance to arrive at ease in their own company. Päter had long admired Juno-winning Howard Redekopp for his work with Mother Mother (also known for Tegan and Sara, the New Pornographers, Said the Whale) and was thrilled when he jumped on board to co-produce 4-7 Company. A highlight of the recording process was sourcing a vintage upright piano with a magical warm tone that showcased the songs’ intimacy, providing fruitful foundations for them to blossom.

Päter will be taking their upbeat, exuberant live show on tour for the first time, spanning Canada, the US, and eventually beyond. The self-directed video for 4-7 Company’s lead single “Nicotine Hallelujah” was an official selection at the 2023 Austin Under the Stars Film Festival as well as the 2024 Toronto Short Film Festival. 4-7 Company arrives in Spring 2024.

We Love The Quiet Cool Groove Of “Tall Boy” From Close Talker

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out the new single and video for “Tall Boy” from Saskatoon, Canada based indie rock band Close Talker.

You can listen to “Tall Boy “ as well as check out the video Here

“Tall Boy” from Close Talker is quite simply indie rock at its absolute finest. We fell deeply for this breathtaking and well written track .

Close Talker has been an integral aspect to the individual lives of Will, Matthew, and Chris. The project that started as a passion for three friends in 2012 has become formative to their identities. It’s applying the nurture vs. nature argument to now-thirty year olds from the Canadian prairies, a place where change happens slowly and nostalgia holds strong. These are the core themes they dig into in their upcoming release: ‘The Sprawl’. ‘The Sprawl’ accounts for the years 2013-2019 in Close Talker: six years of full-on writing, recording, touring, rinse, wash, repeat.

“Tall Boy” is one of those special songs that you not only hear with your ears , but you also feel it with your heart and soul .

We cannot wait for music from Close Talker” We feel like they are just getting warmed up.

Earthquake Lights Deliver Delightful Gem With New Single “January

We recently had the opportunity to check out the new single “January” from New York City 4 piece outfit Earthquake Lights . You can listen to “January “ Here

“January” details the journey to catharsis and relief, touching on finding acceptance of where you have come from, as well as the optimism about where you’re going and persistence to carry on.

Emphasizing the importance of living in the present, lead singer Myles Rodenhouse shares, “This song is about maturing and understanding mistakes you’ve made. Pursuing whoever you want to be now instead of what your former self wanted. It’s not about it working out, it’s about being where you want to be.

The lyrics, which were written by friend and poet Andy Axel, play with the metaphor of birds traveling south for the winter, however in this particular story, a bird flies south in January and survives through the harsh, winter weather, through sheer determination and willingness to move forward. Sonically, “January” emits a joyous and hopeful feeling, with spacious, airy harmonies that encompass the listener.

Everything on “The Albatross “ is well thought out and orchestrated perfectly giving way to a unique melodic punk sound that brilliantly infuses a pop punk sound and a prog-rock feel that makes for a one of kind musical experience. Lyrics delve into the difficult issue of gun violence and scream for a change.

Boston Based TELL Delivers A Treasure Trove Of Rock And Roll Greatness With Latest “Life In Reverse”

By: Jay Kameese

There is nothing quite like an amazing rock record . The Boston Alt-Rock band TELL, is fronted by longtime musician, writer, and novelist David Wildman. Today (February ,9th ) the band releases the amazingly cinematic album , “Life In Reverse, with the release party tonight at The Middle East in Cambridge.

We were absolutely mesmerized by the new single “Owned” , we are now realizing that “Owned” is only the beginning. “Life In Reverse “ was crafted by the band in the studio with producer Benny Grotto of Mad Oak Studios in Allston, MA It serves as a cathartic release of pent-up tension by harnessing the headlines that dominate our newsfeed and filtering them though anthemic and highly-memorable alternative rock. It’s both confrontational and comforting, and underneath its gritty bark is a collection of six shimmering tracks that glow out of the speakers – and may even inspire a dance party.

We were instantly enthralled with “Life In Reverse” from Tell . We were reminded of those records you couldn’t wait to get home to and listen to for hours . “Life In Reverse “ is that good….

Every song has an authenticity and an energy that draws not from the past but also offers a new vibe and sound that is welcomed in today’s otherwise mundane musical landscape.

We were immediately attracted to the addictive melody of “Sweet Life “ vocally “Sweet Life “ is absolutely stunning.

Our personal favorite on “Life In Reverse” is without question “Shell” it is a well crafted gem that has a gorgeous tone to it that gives it a real classic feel that we absolutely love .

“Lyrically, the album is awash in the experience we all have of living through these dark, weird times together, connected mostly through social media,” says Wildman. “It’s nearly impossible to avoid politics for me, so a number of the songs make reference to the cult-like mindset of a huge chunk of the population out there.”David Wildman .

With the honesty of “I wish I can Believe In God “ and the pure brilliant cinematic feel of “Space Time Continuum” – “ Life In Reverse “ from TELL is a musical experience that you cannot miss.

Punk legends T.S.O.L. release soundtrack to documentary film IGNORE HEROES

The original motion picture soundtrack of the T.S.O.L. documentary IGNORE HEROES is now available digitally and on vinyl via DC-Jam Records and record stores worldwide.

The soundtrack is composed by band member Greg Kuehn and includes his piano interpretations of classic T.S.O.L songs, interspersed with spoken word by punk legend and band frontman Jack Grisham.

You can listen to “IGNORE HEROES Here

Directed by Grisham, IGNORE HEROES tells the story of the original T.S.O.L. through interviews with the surviving members and those who were there with them in the madness of the early Californian punk rock scene.

Jack Grisham is an unconventional artist, and his directorial debut film is an unconventionally structured documentary that tells the fractured fairytale of one of the most violent bands in American history. T.S.O.L. exploded onto the Southern California hardcore punk scene in 1978 from the ashes of the notoriously antisocial Long Beach band Vicious Circle and, over the span of five foundational years, managed to record two EPs and two LPs with Grisham that continue to find new audiences 40 years later. Singer/songwriter Grisham was the handsome and hulking suburban ringmaster who commandeered audiences of thousands and was poised to become something of an accidental death rock revolutionary before dropping out of the scene to pursue synthesizer-oriented music and his own personal demons. Through colorful standup monologues, raw archival footage, animation and interviews with the people who made it all happen, IGNORE HEROES candidly contextualizes the excesses that fueled the inexorable crash and burn of TRUE SOUNDS OF LIBERTY!”

Greg Kuehn, originally a classical pianist, shifted to punk in Orange County, joining punk icons T.S.O.L. and producing the acclaimed “Beneath the Shadows” album. He later collaborated with artists like Bob Dylan, The Church, Berlin, and Megan Mullally, and performs occasionally with LA punk band X, stepping in for the late Ray Manzarek of The Doors. His latest EP ‘Medicine Man’ is out now via DC Jam Records.

Upcoming Show:

January 6 – Observatory- Santa Ana, CA (with guests 45 Grave, Bad Cop Bad Cop, The Detours, Taken Days The Venomous Pinks and more).

We are beyond thrilled for “Ignore Heroes “ This definitely one documentary you can not miss.

Lovina Falls celebrates music and movement with debut live performance

An Evening With Lovina Falls’ delivers Valerie Forgione’s art-pop project to the stage December 2 at The Rockwell Theatre in Somerville

We are so excited for Lovina Falls’ upcoming debut live performance at The Rockwell in Somerville on Saturday, December 2. The night features Valerie Forgione’s art-pop project performing debut album Calculating the Angle of Our Descent with an eight-piece band, as well as performances by two notable circus artists in Chels Errante and contortionist Judith as Twisted Elegance. It all helps shape a certain type of mood that is reflected within Forgione’s theatrical and cinematic sound.

Billed as an event to celebrate music and movement, “An Evening with Lovina Falls” marks Forgione’s first appearance on stage with a live band since her former project, ‘90s-era alt-rock luminaries Mistle Thrush, last reunited nearly a decade ago, back in 2014

The show caps off an exciting inaugural year for Lovina Falls, which after releasing Calculating the Angle of Our Descent in the spring, both digitally and on limited-edition vinyl, has released a pair of Joan Hathaway music videos (for July’s “On Your Side” and September’s “Vaulted”). They are followed by a pair of Forgione-created visualizers in November – first for the swirling, piano-led escapade “Today” on November 22, which echoes the slinky song’s exploration of the human psyche; and a vibrant Peter Max-inspired visual for the electronica-driven “Too Bright To Burn,” featuring more than 1,000 hand-drawn illustrated frames set to music, on November 29 – to further highlight deeper cuts on the 10-track record.

You can check out Lovina Falls on Spotify and the other worldly album “Calculating the Angle of Our Descent” Here. As well as on Bandcamp Here and you can check some stunning visuals for “Vaulted” Here and for “On Your Side “ Here

Lovina Falls has so far presented these works in recorded versions, but is now excited to allow them to breathe and evolve in a live setting, where her panoramic origins of the songs give way to the feelings of those hearing them. It’s fitting Forgeione has chosen an intimate theater setting for this debut show, which draws on various layers of artistic performance and fosters community between performer and attendees. But with that comes a bit of risk, especially for a project conceived as a solo endeavor.

I am very excited… and I suppose a little nervous, too,” Forgione says of The Rockwell show. “Writing and recording the album was a kind of solitary experience; I’m really looking forward to sharing the music with both the folks on stage and those in the audience.

The artist energy that surrounds Lovina Falls and Valerie Forgione has the vibe and feel of a priceless work of art . We were enthralled by the audio wonderment in “Calculating the Angle of Our Descent” we can only imagine how special and magical the live presentation will be.

Joining Lovina Falls to bring the recorded album to performative life are Forgione’s Mistle Thrush bandmates Scott Patalano on guitar and Matt Klain on bass, as well as Chuck Ferreira on drums (Eddie Japan, The Shang Hi-Los), Laura Klain on backing vocals (The Daylilies), Marnie Hall on violin (Boston Music Award nominee), and Boston music veterans Brenden Cobb on guitar and Carrie Ingber on keys.

December 2nd at the Rockwell with Lovina Falls promises to be a magical musical experience. Be sure to get your tickets Here

If you are a regular reader of The Whole Kameese , then you are well aware that we don’t like to beat around the bush….. so with that being said, we must say how absolutely beautiful the new single “Silhouette” is from Earthquake Lights .

“Silhouette” has this big cinematic presence about it that simply takes our breath away.

The instrumentation, the vocals….. Everything is perfect . On “Silhouette “ Earthquake Lights is a band who is firing on all cylinders.

We love that their latest single “Silhouette” is about the search for life, penning the question, “What’s the connection between music and space?” Lead singer Myles Rodenhouse shares, “The search for life can be within yourself, within your own world but it would also be within outer space. It can be feeling like you’re always by yourself, but you find out along the way that you’re not traveling alone. EQL is always learning to make music that can be specific to every person’s lens. It is not very literal to how exactly you should interpret this song, it can be seen differently through everyone’s own lens.”

Do yourself a favor and check out “Silhouette” from Earthquake Lights it’s a musical journey you won’t forget.

Friend Of A Friend Delivers A Brilliant And Beautiful New Single “HLS”

We recently checked out the latest single “HLS” from American duo Friend of a Friend (Claire Molek, Jason Savsani)

You can listen to “HLS” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

There is something absolutely magical about Friend Of A Friend. They delicately craft a unique blend of music that is part art , part folk and it is absolutely mesmerizing.

Friend Of A Friend’s latest single “HLS” is a rhythmic dream .We found ourselves blissfully getting lost in the endless wonderment of HLS”

Friend Of A Friend have toured relentlessly throughout Europe and North America, and have gained over 2 million streams on their debut release. The duo is celebrated for their cinematic, fiercely experiential performance that incorporates a distorted Flamenco guitar, a midi controller and intense physicality. The strength of the duo’s bond is apparent in the music just as much as it is on stage, the performance giving “Led Zeppelin meets the year 2050.” Influences include “Portishead, M83, The Kills & Jose Gonzalez had a baby in the desert during the end of your favorite movie.” The duo explores a wide breadth of styles throughout the 12 tracks – notes of trip hop, indie rock, classic rock, noise rock, house music – but whatever genre this is anything and everything, something nostalgic and entirely new all at once.

We believe that “HLS” from Friend Of A Friend is an excellent way to spend 3 minutes and 28 seconds of your day.
