D Cullen Releases Thought Provoking New Gem , “Young Men”

D Cullen Also Announces New Album, “City Soundscapes “ For September Release

We recently had the stellar opportunity, to check out the stunning new single, “Young Men”, from D. Cullen  an acclaimed alt-rock artist from Dublin, Ireland.

You can listen to “Young Men”, from D. Cullen, Here

We have said it before, and it bears repeating… Sometimes it only takes hearing a song one time and … You are hooked . This is definitely the case with , “Young Men”, from D. Cullen.

Young Men” is a song that deals with the rising issue of toxic masculinity in our society.

From my earliest days in an all-boys school in Dublin, I’ve never really felt at home in heavily masculine/laddy circles. I’ve always felt like an outsider in those circles. Increasingly, in the wake of the last few years where movements like “the Manosphere”  and figures such as Andrew Tate and Joe Rogan have taken more of a hold on the culture, I’ve become more and more concerned and distressed with how unpleasant certain men’s behaviour can be. At the same time, there’s a growing sense that a lot of men are using these behaviours to hide behind while they deal with some seriously heavy struggles. This song tries to address both issues, by both prodding at some of the more distasteful elements of “lad culture” and also shining a light on the vulnerability behind a lot of that bravado. Although the song was written well before this came out, the show “Adolescence” floored me when I watched it recently, as it captured that dichotomy perfectly. I hope this song can capture some of that current cultural tension in the same way.”

Having previously released his debut album ‘Sing My Story, Tell My Song’ followed by the EP ‘Tiny‘ he now announces a new chapter for 2025. with the release of new single ‘Young Men‘ and forthcoming new album “City Soundscapes” which will be released on Sept 19th.

“Young Men” has an authentic and honest vibe that really makes the song stand out .

D. has had his music featured on BBC Scotland, RTE Radio One, Today FM, and twice performed on Ireland’s largest TV chat show The Late Late Show. He has supported such artists as Mundy, Eddi Reader, Brian Kennedy, Bry, and many many more!

THUMPER, Unleashes Blistering New Single, “The Drip”

We recently had the privilege to check out the tremendous new single, “The Drip” from Dublin psych-pop powerhouse THUMPER. You can listen to “The Drip” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

THUMPER, comes in red hot with their new electrifying riff fueled new single, “The Drip” and we loved every freaking second of it .

The track is the first of a series of releases across 2025 leading to the release of their sophomore album which follows debut Choice Music Prize nominated Delusions of Grandeur which was an epic introduction to the band’s psych-drenched rumble which juxtaposes walls of distortion with saccharine melody and unabashed hooks.

The Drip is a song about tour burnout and relationship strain. The song was written almost a line at a time, small lyrics jotted down at different moments on tour, in different cities, different head spaces. The title refers to that slow accumulation, drip torture was on my mind, but also an IV drip – something that keeps you alive, hooked to your veins. In this case my deep love for making music, and the people I make it with.

The song has no chorus – no release. But it’s joyous and builds with momentum with each passing section, even as the lyrics seem to become more abstract. This conflict between love for the thing, and that thing destroying you – that’s The Drip. “Poke to find a vein, flick the bag”

The song was recorded with producer Rian Trench in rural Donegal, in a cottage that we converted into a studio. We built a control room in the sitting room, and ran cables into the various bedrooms for guitar amps, even using Alan’s van to house the bass amp outside (as the volume inside the house was making the fillings in our teeth come loose). The double drums were then recorded in Attica Studio in Donegal owned by Tommy McLaughlin ( Soak, Villagers, Ailbhe Reddy). There was no signal, no wifi, no distractions – just friends making music together. We were listening to a lot of DIIV and Wednesday at the time, and we were lucky enough to rope in Alex Ferrar (engineer/producer of Wednesday,MJ Lendermann, Angel Olsen, etc) on mixing duties.’

We can’t believe we are just discovering, THUMPER, and their otherworldly sound (we apologize) Go immediately listen to “The Drip”, You will be absolutely amazed.

DREAM BOY, Release Mesmerizing And Hypnotic New Single, “Ivory”

We recently had the distinct honor to check out the new single, “Ivory”, from Dublin shoegaze outfitDREAM BOY. Ivory‘ is the penultimate single from the forthcoming debut ‘Drowning in Blue‘ ep. You can listen to “Ivory” Here

The new single, is about letting go, it’s about hearing the same things and seeing the same behaviour but for the first time instead of going back, walking away.

The  track got its name from the nature that ivory is retrieved, animals killed for their tusks made of the material, when it could just be taken without causing harm. The opening track of the forthcoming ep, ‘Ivory‘ is the first song of healing on the bands discography. An exploration into boundaries and finally standing up for yourself.

‘I have an image in my head of a documentary I saw as a child where animal protection services remove the tusks from animals to protect them from poachers looking for Ivory. This really stuck with me, the idea that these beautiful creatures were being killed for this material when really in order to retrieve it they did not need to be hurt.

I was struggling with the ending to this song, I had most of the lyrics but was missing the songs real purpose. I’d been listening to a song called ‘blue’ by dream ivory which must have put the word in my head and once it was in it all just clicked and fell into place.

The demo is worlds different from how the song sounds now but that’s why I love writing with these guys and working with our producer Daniel De Burca, we really explore and exploit the idea, taking into a totally different world.’

“Ivory”, from Dream Boy, is a deeply emotional and moving track that tugs gently at your heartstrings and stays in your soul long after the music has ended.

LOBEPINE Creates Melodic Joy With New Single “I Feel Good”

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out the new single, I Feel Good” from Dublin based artist, LOBEPINE. You can listen to “I Feel Good” Here

We love absolutely everything about, “I Feel Good “ from LOBEPINE.

Effortlessly combining pop, indie, and hip-hop influences, the track is a rich sonic tapestry where lush synthesizers, smooth guitar riffs, and a soulful saxophone intertwine with a laidback hip-hop-inspired beat. Adding to its organic, rhythmic pulse, congas, bongos, ghatams, and a subtle
shaker create a warm, earthy groove that flows throughout the song. “

“I Feel Good” radiates a chilled, reflective vibe, capturing the bittersweet feeling of watching time slip through our fingers – a meditation on the fleeting nature of life, balanced with the serene acceptance that some things are simply beyond our control. The song also carries a subtle call to action, urging listeners to step forward and actively shape their own
story rather than sitting back as spectators. With its intimate atmosphere and smooth, flowing energy, LOBEPINE offers a laidback yet thought-provoking soundtrack to pause, breathe,d make t h e m o s t of t h e moments we h a v e .

“I Feel Good” from LOBEPINE, is a shining example of what good authentic music sounds like . LOBEPINE, offers up a fresh and inspiring vibe and sound that we can most definitely get behind.

SCUSTIN Brew Up Intoxicating New Single, “The Ick (Don’t Put Blackcurrant In That Pint Of Guinness)”

SCUSTIN Announce Debut Album Confessions Of A Pub Talker Released  September 19th 2025

We recently had the stellar opportunity to check out the new single “The Ick (Don’t Put Blackcurrant In That Pint Of Guinness)”, from Dublin post-funk quartet SCUSTIN. You can listen to The Ick (Don’t Put Blackcurrant In That Pint Of Guinness)” Here

We are always on the lookout for killer grooves, and we have definitely found one from SCUSTIN, and their groove filled new single, “The Ick (Don’t Put Blackcurrant In That Pint Of Guinness)”

SCUSTIN are delighted to announce that their debut album Confessions Of A Pub Talker will be released on  September, 19th 2025.

To celebrate the news, the band will releaselead single ‘The Ick (Don’t Put Blackcurrant In That Pint Of Guinness)’ on  March 5th, 2025, just in time for the St Patrick’s Daycelebrations at their London headline show on March 17th, 2025 at The Dublin Castle, Camden.

Recorded and produced by Richie Kennedy(The Murder Capital, RIDE, Interpol, Shame) at Black Mountain Studios, forthcoming debut album Confessions Of A Pub Talker is a modern Irish concept record that tells the story of Larry, a barman in his mid-to-late 20s struggling to find his way amidst the social and economic uncertainties of modern Irish life.

Bracing lead single ‘The Ick’ is a tongue-in-cheek satire of the post-punk genre, embracing its recent resurgence and drawing on influences from early Viagra Boys, Idles, and Irish bands such as Gurriers and The Scratch.

The frantic energy displayed on the new single is simply electrifying, we were immediately captivated.

Commenting on the single, the band said: Lyrically, the track addresses the sacrilegious attempts to taint Ireland’s most sacred beverage—Guinness—and draws a line between those who attempt such absurdities and those who don’t. The global phenomenon of “The Ick” serves as a fitting metaphor, delivering the message with a sharp edge of satire, and highlighting how trivial annoyances can become outlets for frustration in a world full of more significant issues.”

If you are like us, and are constantly searching for the next great groove, look no further then The Ick (Don’t Put Blackcurrant In That Pint Of Guinness)’, from SCUSTIN

The Whole Kameese Artist Of The Day Interview: Jessica Doolan

Today, Thursday, January 11th – We are proud to present our first Artist Of The Day: Dublin based soul-pop singer Jessica Doolan .

We first discovered Jessica Doolan back in December, when she released her stunning debut single “Stay Or Surrender “

You can listen to “Stay Or Surrender” Here

Jessica Doolan has one of those magical voices that once you hear it , you’ll never forget.

We recently had the distinct honor to chat with Jessica and learn more about this incredible up and coming artist.

Artist Of The Day January 11th: Jessica Doolan

The Whole Kameese:Hi Jessica, thank you so much for taking the time for chatting with us at The Whole Kameese

Jessica Doolan:Thank you for having me!

The Whole Kameese: Can you tell us when you started singing? Do you come from a musical family ?

Jessica Doolan: I started singing when I was about 3 or 4! My family are very musical. I have memories of jamming along to my dads guitar making up melodies and random lyrics. My brother plays the piano incredibly well, my mum sings and my dad plays nearly every instrument!

The Whole Kameese: If someone has never heard you sing before, how would you describe your singing style/sound ? .

Jessica Doolan:I would describe it as Soul-Pop. I grew up listening to artists like Nina Simone, Etta James and Amy Winehouse and I was facinated hearing how much passion was in their voices!

The Whole Kameese:

How old were you when you wrote your first song? Do you remember what it was called?

Jessica Doolan: I was 10 when I wrote my first full song. It was called ‘ Mise Sa Todhchai’ which means Dear Future Self in the Irish language. I wrote my first songs in Irish. I love the sound of the language being sung.

The Whole Kameese: If you could do a duet with anyone , who would it be and why?

Jessica Doolan: My dream duet would probably be Alicia Keys. She’s the coolest!

The Whole Kameese:We absolutely love your debut single “Stay Or Surrender “ Can you tell us the story behind the song?

Jessica Doolan:I wrote the song about my first ever heartbreak. It’s quite raw and honest and I knew I had to put it out the minute I wrote it. I was in a relationship that wasn’t very good for me and I didn’t know whether to stay or go. It felt like I could never escape the feeling of being lovesick & that the heartbreak would stay in my system forever. After I put the song out I got so many messages of people saying it resonated with them. It made me feel less alone!

The Whole Kameese: Coffee or Tea?

Jessica Doolan: I’m a tea girl! Nothing better than getting into your pajamas and making a cup of tea

The Whole Kameese: If you could play a show anywhere, where would that be and why ?

Jessica Doolan : I think playing Madison Square Garden is definitely at the top of my dream list! It’s such an iconic venue and so many of my inspirations have played there.

The Whole Kameese: What are artists are you currently listening to ?

Jessica Doolan: I’m listening to a lot of Sade, Sampha and Teddy Swims!

The Whole Kameese : If you could give one piece of advice to young musicians/singers who are just starting out , what would it be and why?

Jessica Doolan: I would say don’t be afraid of failing. It’s always daunting putting yourself out into the world and sharing your art but remember it’s your purpose and you should never let the doubts take over your mind. It’s all about the journey and I always think about a quote I read. It was ‘ The desire to succeed will never be more powerful than having the guts to fail’.

The Whole Kameese: What can we expect from Jessica Doolan in 2024?

Jessica Doolan: A lot more music & a lot more shows!!! I’m hoping to play my first ever headline show this year, I’m so excited.

The Whole Kameese: Thank you very much Jessica, for taking time to chat with us here at The Whole Kameese . We hope you have an amazing 2024.

Jessica Doolan : Thank You! Have a wonderful New Year.

We can’t wait to see what Jessica Doolan does in the new year ! Be sure to check back , as we will have much more on Jessica Doolan in 2024.
