Emotionally rich and effortlessly nostalgic, “Summer’s Here” blends hazy guitar lines, a laid-back groove, and airy vocals into a sound that feels both spontaneous and sentimental. “It’s a little sonic postcard, if you will,” Annabel shares. “A keepsake for summer love and freckles, for salt-kissed skin and windblown days on the beach—for the tender, aching sweetness of experiences that linger well beyond the moment!”

I wrote this song in the sun-dappled days of June,” she continues. “It started with a simple melody and a looping chord progression—unassuming, but full of potential. I brought those chords into rehearsal and asked the band to play whatever the moment made them feel, without having heard the topline.” That moment turned out to be magic: the song was captured entirely in a single live take. What listeners hear now is that very take—raw, expressive, and alive with the breezy, wistful, and whimsical spirit of summer.

Born and raised in Montreal’s vibrant music scene, Annabel Gutherz has a gift for crafting timeless music that speaks to the universal human experience. Her signature style, marked by poignant storytelling, honeyed melodies, and captivating vocals, guides listeners through deeply emotional territory with disarming sincerity.

“Summer’s Here”, from Annabel Gutherz, is the kind of song that will shine in your soul long after the music has ended.

The Words, “Important”, “Stunning” And “Brilliant” Don’t Even Begin To Express The Breathtaking New Album, “Embers”, From Happy Little Clouds

We recently had the spectacular opportunity to check out the new album, “EMBERS”, from Boston grit-pop trio , Happy Little Clouds. You can listen to the extraordinary “EMBERS” on Spotify Here, Apple Music Here

“EMBERS”, is a fierce, authentic and vibrant collection of songs. Happy Little Clouds, may have just delivered the album of the year… You just don’t know it yet .

Embers hits the streams today ( Friday, July 18) , the path that led to this moment tells a greater, more poignant story of reflection, assessment and awakening. When the band takes the stage at The Burren in Somerville the following night, on Saturday, July 19, alongside theatrical glam superstars Eddie Japan, there will be a sense of cathartic release, one building inside founder Jac Mestel since the release of the band’s debut album, Shift, nearly a decade ago.

lot has changed since then: for Mestel (they/them), the multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and lyricist who has since come out as trans; for the band, now completed by bassist Derek Bergstrom (he/him) and drummer and percussionist Jess Townsend (she/her); and for the world in which Happy Little Clouds reside with a sense of defiance and pride.

The nine tracks on “Embers”, are absolutely glowing. The stories contained within, packed tightly in the band’s eclectic, melodic, and soulful post-grunge sound, offer an invitation to seek refuge, seek allyship, and attempt, both collectively and individually, to make sense of an insane world. The record’s title derives from a lyric in new single “Liar Fire”“All my body curls like embers / Up or down I’m forced to choose” – a white-hot blast of ‘70s arena-rock ambition that sets a striking tone for an album packed with definable moments.

We really liked the symbolism of embers because it represents an intense, ephemeral light – like life,” the band states. “While an ember burns you can’t tell which way it’s going to drift. In the song, it represents a panicked moment where you are at a crossroads in life. You either choose to give into your fear or move toward love.”

We knew as Happy Little Clouds, began releasing the singles which lead up to “Embers”, that we going to get something special…. And we were right . From the electrifying energy of “Higher” to the otherworldly drumming from Jess Townsend, on “Clear and Present Danger, we were on the edge of our seats (literally) and those songs only scratch the musical goodness from Happy Little Clouds on “Embers”

We found ourselves marveling at the flawless and moving vocal performances on “Liar Fire” and “Offswitch” However, the closing track, “The Water At Your Feet” , completely took our breath away. It was without question our favorite track on the album. The beautifully woven melodies and vocals are positively divine.

Seven of the songs featured on “Embers” were recorded and mixed at Deadmoon Audio in Somerville, Massachusetts, just after Bergstrom joined the band, bringing a bassline buoyancy inspired by the likes of Gang of Four, The Replacements, and Future Islands. The two most recent Sound Cove singles, “Higher” and “Clear and Present Danger,” were recorded and mixed by Ethan Dussault at New Alliance Audio in Somerville, where the creative trio truly flexed as a cohesive unit. All the songs were mastered by Pete Weiss at Jade Cow Music in Middletown, Rhode Island.

“Embers”, from Happy Little Clouds, is an album that is impossible to resist.

“False Alarm “ is a poignant meditation on homesickness and self-discovery.Anchored by Harner’s interwoven fingerpicked guitar lines and ethereal vocals, the track captures the emotional richness and understated intimacy that have come to define her sound.

False Alarm’ is a song about homesickness,” Harner explains. I wrote it after moving from Nebraska to Boston for college. Originally hailing from Lincoln, Nebraska, Emma Harner began playing violin at just three years old before discovering her love for the guitar—an instrument that now forms the backbone of her sound. Now based in Boston and studying guitar performance at Berklee College of Music, she’s developed a distinctive sound that fuses the intimacy of folk with the complexity of math rock.

Hunny Return With Playful Indie-Pop Single “sidewaze”

We recently had the tremendous opportunity, to check out LA-based indie-pop project HUNNY and their incredibly vibrant new single “sidewaze”, their first new music since their 2023 album ‘New Planet Heaven’ and its subsequent live record out in 2024. Driven by an upbeat rhythm, the song calls back to the sunny sounds of their previous work, combining playful lyricism with plucky riffs and bursts of sleazy distortion. Revealing how the origins of “sidewaze” date back to a track from New Planet Heaven, frontman Jason Yarger explains:

the main synth line from ‘sidewaze’ was written for the last chorus of ‘kick ur teeth in’, but ultimately i decided there was enough going on already so i scraped it from the album version but kept it in our live tracks just for fun. (you can hear it in the ‘live at paul’s’ version). one day before a tour i was going through the set and just thought it would be cool if that keyboard part kept going out of ‘kick ur teeth in’ into a new song, so i pretty much wrote ‘sidewaze’ just for that reason. i came up with that first line and it turned into a nice little track about two people playing games with each other. i thought a girl texting me the wrong address to meet up sounded like something that could’ve happened to me in high school.”

“Sidewaze”, from Hunny, is an absolute musical wonderment. We found ourselves completely mesmerized.

Since we last heard from HUNNY, there’s been some major shifts behind the scenes. As the lives of the band’s individual members take turns down different paths, they’ve announced a major lineup change that marks a new chapter for the group. After 10 years as a foursome, throughout 2 full length albums, multiple EP’s and a string of singles, HUNNY will continue on as the solo project of founding member and vocalist, Jason Yarger. They first broke the news via a heartfelt Instagram post on the band’s page Here

Providing insight into their thought process and the future of the band, the collective statement reads:

when we started having these talks and what it all means for the band i figured i’d be starting up the solo career but i’m lucky enough to have these three friends who told me to keep building on what we’ve created. we’ve found such a loving community with all of u and im blessed that i don’t have to leave it behind. almost twelve years ago i wrote some shitty songs and asked my friends to play them with me and it turned into something so much more than i thought it could. now its come full circle and it leaves a hole in my heart to be going forward in this without my bros but im thankful for their support and excited for what’s next. i will actually straight up die before i stop making and playing music for whoever keeps showing up and listening.”

Stay tuned for more HUNNY updates soon, including a final show with the full lineup and additional dates to be announced…

We can’t wait to see what’s next.

We Are Completely Hooked On The Debut Album, “New Thing” From Avery Friedman

We were absolutely elated beyond belief, to finally get to check out the stunning debut album , “New Thing”, via Audio Antihero from Brooklyn, based singer-songwriter, Avery Friedman . ( Spoiler Alert…. it is a musical triumph beyond words.)

You can listen to “New Thing” Here

We have been feeling the build up to the highly anticipated release of “New Thing”, every time we got a new single from Avery Friedman,( “Flowers Fell”, “Photo Booth” and “New Thing “( The title track is so divine) we got a little more excited for the debut LP.

Produced by James Chrisman (SISTER. / CIAO MALZ) and featuring Felix Walworth(FLORIST / TOLD SLANT), New Thing’ is a sonically deep and layered album that sees Friedman explore her trauma, resiliency, and sexuality with a raw open-heartedness inspired by by artists like Adrianne LenkerSquirrel Flower, and Babehoven

Right from the introduction track, we were completely smitten.

Every song on “New Thing“, from Avery Friedman, is a well crafted melodic experience that highlights the musical brilliance of a musician (Avery Friedman) who is a rising voice that needs to be heard .

Avery, shares: New Thing is a conduit for emotions too frenetic to hold on your own. This record is a collection of the first songs I’ve ever written, after many years of orbiting the music world, but denying myself my own musicianship. Many of these tracks were born of anxiety – from my turning to a guitar to externalize (and organize) a sense of chaos that otherwise felt trapped inside me. We recorded a bulk of it with a live band, as a means to maintain the raw energy at the center of the record. What results is a time capsule for a year of intense personal expansion in my life – and the layers of warmth, wonder, sensitivity and sharpness that come with growing.”

Stunning Melodies with thought provoking lyrics were found in every song on “New Thing”

We found ourselves captivated with “Biking Standing” , the song has a beautifully unique sound that we found to be timeless and heartfelt.

In our opinion the shining star of the LP, is “Nervous” Avery artfully molds both ambient sounds and melodies combined with thoughtful lyrics, to create an absolute work of art.

The album release show will take place on May 15th at Union Pool in Brooklyn, NY with support from Dolly and After Ours(Tickets/Info).

“IDK These Days” showcases Caroline’s wonderful knack for blending vulnerability with compelling storytelling. The minimalist arrangement emphasizes her poignant lyrics and heartfelt vocal delivery, making it one of the most emotionally charged tracks on the EP.

“IDK These Days” , from Caroline Romano, is a perfect of example of why we love music so much – Bravo .

“I wrote ‘IDK These Days’ during a period of inexplicable anger and frustration,” Caroline shares.“It’s about the little things—like snow and traffic—that used to be trivial, suddenly becoming overwhelming. It’s that unsettling feeling when even your mom notices you’re not yourself, and you’re stuck in this state of discontent, feeling like a middle schooler again.”

Caroline further reflects, “The song speaks to the fear that these emotions might linger longer than desired. It’s about the struggle of being honest when asked how you’re doing and admitting, ‘I don’t know these days.’ While these feelings are fleeting, in the moment, they feel all-consuming. This song is my way of confronting those emotions head-on, admitting them aloud, and finding solace in that admission.”

So do your music loving heart a favor and get lost in the pure beauty of “ IDK These Days” from Caroline Romano.

Kurt Baker Dazzles With Latest Single “Warm In The Winter”

“Warm In The Winter “ co-written with longtime collaborator, Wyatt Funderburk

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out the new single , “Warm In The Winter” from Acclaimed American musician/songwriter, and power pop/rock maestro Kurt Baker, via Wicked Cool Records.

You can listen to “Warm In The Winter” Here

We were absolutely captivated by melodic wonder of “Warm In The Winter” from Kurt Baker.

Kurt says, Warm in the Winter” for me is kind of a classic Wyatt Funderburk / KB tune. We’ve been writing songs together for years now. It all started with the song “Telephone Operator” which was recorded by my first band The Leftovers, and became a regional hit in places like San Diego, Biddeford, Maine and Kenosha, Wisconsin. That was back in 2009. Well, now it’s 2025, and Wyatt and I are still working together after all these years. We’ve worked on many records together, and it is always just a pleasure to collaborate on music with him. “Warm in the Winter” was written during the songwriting sessions for my last LP “Rock n Roll Club”. We didn’t end up recording it finally, but got around to it last year. It’s a timely song as we are now in the dead of winter, and musically it’s kind of the perfect balance of power pop and pop punk. Definitely influences of Elvis Costello (duh), Screeching Weasel (high school KB to the max), and Green Day (gods). I hope you enjoy it!”

When it comes to crafting magnificent power pop masterpieces, Kurt Baker , is an absolute master , and “Warm In The Winter” is one of his absolute best .

What we love about Kurt Baker , is how he is able to take so many different musical elements and mold it into a power pop gem . On “Warm In The Winter” you can hear elements of surf, pop, rock , punk . It is literally a cornucopia of musical goodness and we love every minute of it.

CIAO MALZ Delivers A Musical Work Of Art WithDebut EP “Safe Then Sorry”

(feat. Florist / Sister. / Told Slant members)

We recently had the magnificent opportunity to check out Brooklyn-based FilipinoAmerican Indie artist CIAO MALZ (Malia DelaCruz) and her debut EP, “Safe Then Sorry” which is out now via the non-binary-owned Audio Antihero label (Frog / Magana / Nosferatu D2 / Cloud)

You can listen to “Safe Than Sorry” on Spotify Here, Apple Music Here and on Bandcamp Here

“Safe Then Sorry” from CIAO MALZ is a collection of stunning of soon to be classic indie songs, that had us mesmerized from note one.

It is crystal clear ,that in listening to “Safe Then Sorry” from CIAO MALZ , that Malia DelaCruz is a super talented songwriter, who is in a league all of her own .

DelaCruz shares, Safe Then Sorry is a rest stop on the path most traveled. I wrote the bulk of the EP after work, these stories and characters came to me subconsciously and asked to be spoken into existence. These songs are about the unlikely connections we make, and how they’re simultaneously inexplicable and meaningful. I work through these contradictions with unpredictable melodies, explosive choruses, and with the recording process itself. We did everything on the fly to capture as much raw emotion as could fit in the four walls of the basement studio. I wanted the project to feel how it did when I was messing around on GarageBand on my first computer — unrestrained.“

Originally from Connecticut, DelaCruz relocated to New York to attend St. John’s University in Queens, and she soon rented a studio space in the Lower East Side. Here she began experimenting with her sound, while also collaborating and performing with Brooklyn’s acclaimed Sister. trio, but it wasn’t until 2021 that she felt ready to begin self-releasing her own recordings under the CIAO MALZ name (pronounced “Chow Mahllz”)

Listening to “Safe Then Sorry” , we felt like we were floating through an indie pop dream.

With CIAO MALZ , DelaCruz, has artfully crafted a style and sound that is otherworldly. We found ourselves blissfully singing along track after track. The beauty of music is that is has the extraordinary power of making things better. We definitely felt this throughout “Safe Then Sorry” Every song unfolded like a well written diary entry – bravo . There is not a bad song to be found on “Safe Then Sorry “ it is brilliant from top bottom.

“Two Feet Tall” is the perfect opening track as it sets the perfect tone for the EP.

We felt swept away with the melody for “Bad For The Bad Guy”, this song had a real cinematic quality that we loved.

All of the songs on “Safe Then Sorry” are beautifully sculpted by smartly using different elements of sounds and notes , this is on full display on “Take Me Out Of Here”

The closing track, “Gold Rush” has this real curious beat that really adds another dimension to the track and really compliments the flawless vocals in the song.

If music is your thing, then you owe it to your music loving soul to check out “Safe Then Sorry” from CIAO MALZ.

Listening to “You Could Break My Heart”, you can really hear and feel Maddie Regent evolving as an artist and it is absolutely beautiful. “You Could Break My Heart” is one of those songs that literally takes your breath away .

Crafted alongside her boyfriend, producer and fellow songwriter Cade Hoppe, and featuring additional production from Harper James of Eighty Ninety, “You could break my heart” merges lush, cinematic soundscapes with Maddie’s ethereal vocals. It’s a cathartic and heartfelt indie-pop number that lingers long after the final note.

“‘You could break my heart’ is about the helplessness that comes with falling in love—how we give someone our heart, knowing full well that they could break it,” Maddie shares. “Sometimes love makes us blind enough to romanticize the heartbreak.”

Hailing from Toronto and now based in New York City, Maddie first started making music at the age of 12. As an introverted child, music became her tool to express herself and work through her anxieties, helping her to find power in her vulnerability. After years of honing her sound, she’s found the perfect balance between escapist pop bops and raw, honest songwriting.

There is nothing more magical in the world than hearing an amazing song , we definitely feel this when listening to “You Could Break My Heart from Maddie Regent .

Singer-Songwriter Rosalie James Delivers A Beautiful Collection Of Divine Melodies With Debut Album “Full Of Chemicals”

We recently had the opportunity to check out the debut album “Full Of Chemicals “ from UK singer/songwriter Rosalie James . You can listen to “Full Of Chemicals “ on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

Rosalie James is a stunning artist who crafts warm and authentic songs that feel like intimate diary entries.

Hailing from Cornwall, UK. She grew up learning piano and guitar, listening to The Beatles and The Bangles on her bright yellow Sony Walkman, weeping over the impassioned drama of 80s synth-pop and new wave, obsessing over the lyrics of 90s dreampop and indie artists and drawing inspiration from anyone who could write a good song.

We were immediately captivated by Rosalie’s flawless vocals that added such a beautiful dimension to each song .

From the opening note on “My Nature” all the way through to “The Difference The Light Will Make” , Rosalie James had us hanging on every word and note .

The album is produced byDaniel Knowles (Sharon Van Etten, Cigarettes After Sex) and details her own struggles with neurodiversity, addiction and mental health.

Rosalie has experienced sensory sensitivities and difficulty managing emotions and social interaction since she was nine years old. She has been treated for severe depression and anxiety, premenstrual dysphoric disorder and substance use issues but it wasn’t until January 2023 that she was finally diagnosed with autistic spectrum disorder. For the first time, she feels able to live an authentic life. After two degrees and ten years working as a Social Worker in social care and mental health, Rosalie decided in June 2023 that it was time to return to her creative roots.

Leading single “Girl I Was” is a storytelling narrative of an important but destructive relationship from the artist’s past. The raw and honest song chronicles when someone gives one owns power away and the self growth that needs to occur to move on.

Rosalie James is an artist who beautifully leads with truth and authenticity in her music and the results are glowingly evident on “Full Of Chemicals “

Truth be told there isn’t a bad song on “Full Of Chemicals.

The one song that really stood out for us is the closing track “The Difference The Light Will Make” it is an absolutely gorgeous song that left us with goosebumps. In our opinion Rosalie , sounded like the late great Karen Carpenter from Carpenters fame .

Do yourself and check out “Full Of Chemicals” from Rosalie James, you won’t regret it.

Evoking Y2K-era technological anxiety, the song takes the view of a streaming service achieving consciousness and hypnotizing the minds of viewers. We were instantly captivated by “are you still watching” from Brooklyn based Violet Sands.

The music of Violet Sands is an ethereal soundtrack for a rite of passage, harnessing the alluring vocals of Deidre Muro (Deidre & the Dark, previously Savoir Adore), the inventive production of David Perlick-Molinari (French Horn Rebellion) and the cinematic, classical-tinged arrangements of derek muro.

Ella Galvin Delivers “Can’t Miss” New Single “Do Not Disturb “

We recently had the opportunity to check out the new single “Do Not Disturb “ from Rising New York-based artist Ella Galvin. You can listen to “Do Not Disturb “ Here

We absolutely love the style and sound of “Do Not Disturb” Guided by atmospheric bedroom-pop production and Ella’s serene vocals, “Do Not Disturb” is a dreamy listen. There’s a levity to the song — driven home by the playfully interpolated voice note that concludes the track — that makes it utterly captivating.

I wrote this song about a situationship I was in last year,” Ella says. “Late at night on the weekend when I didn’t go out, I would put my phone on ‘Do Not Disturb’ but allowed notifications from this person. The lighthearted and energetic vibe, with a touch of playful over-editing, mirrors the carefree attitude I had towards this relationship. The song reflects my strange indifference but intrigue towards this relationship.”

Taking influence from pop, soul, jazz and rock, Ella’s songs showcase her fondness for experimentation and innovation. She got her start performing in a variety of fusion bands in Boston and New York before branching out with her own solo project in 2022. She’s spent the last few years developing her sound and fine-tuning her live show with performances around New York City.

On her upcoming EP, Ella masterfully combines her genre-blending musical influences with diaristic storytelling that captures the charm, discomfort, and introspection of being a young, queer woman in today’s world. With growing buzz and plenty of music in the pipeline, Ella Galvin is an artist you’re going to want to keep an eye on in 2024.

“Do Not Disturb “ from Ella Galvin is a beautifully crafted song that we absolutely can’t get enough.

Arrows of Athena Offer Up Stunning New Single With “Reckless Heart”

We recently had the spectacular opportunity to check out the new single “Reckless Heart” from cinematic Boston alternative duo Arrows Of Athena.

You can listen to “Reckless Heart” Here

Certain songs have a way of really getting into the deep recesses of your mind and sparking a feeling or thought from the past. We most certainly felt this with “Reckless Heart” from Arrows Of Athena .

Photo- Karla Lopresti

“Reckless Heart” sets the stage perfectly for the Boston duo’s forthcoming debut album The Ghost Archives, arriving April 26 via the band’s own Belhaven Records.

A pandemic project that found its two main players – multi-instrumentalist and producer Scott Lerner and vocalist and lyricist Jac-Lyn Gibson – reuniting after the latter spent some time away from music, Arrows of Athena are crafting a distinct sound on their own terms, bridging usually disparate ends of the pop and rock spectrum for an illuminated sound of big dance beats, heavy riffs, and melodic intensity. And while they quietly dropped debut single “Fade Away” early last year, their firebrand single “Reckless Heart” serves as a proper introduction to their new world.

“‘Reckless Heart’ is just the kind of song that no matter what genre you’re into, it just pulls you in right from the beginning,” says Gibson. “It has some rock, a little pop, and I’m obsessed with the overall ‘90s throwback sound of it. I’m a ‘90s girl at heart, and appreciate that Scott’s riffs are a nod to that time in my life. He has really embraced my love for a great pop backbeat while staying true to his own rock music background. I can’t lie, I am really digging the dance beats and synths he used on this album and can’t wait to share more.”

Gibson and Lerner have been sharing a musical vision since the early 2000s, when they both were in Boston rock band Pure Fiction. Lerner went on to play in indie stalwarts The Crushing Low, while Gibson relocated to New Jersey with her immediate family. But during the pandemic, Lerner began building a home studio, compiling demos that felt slightly outside his usual creative circles. Hearing that Gibson returned to Boston after a few years away, he reached out to see if she wanted to lay down some vocals on a new project.

We were simply mesmerized by “Reckless Heart “ , the opening riff really caught our ears , and once the vocals and melody came together, we were absolutely hooked – brilliant.

Do yourself a favor and check out “Reckless Heart” from Arrows Of Athena it’s an absolute can’t miss.

When asked about “Teeth “ Jeni shared , I recorded this during lockdown in the pandemic. The world started to look strange to me, as if I was an alien plopped down in the middle of Los Angeles but with all these human feelings. I wanted this album to reflect that not only in the lyrics but in the soundscapes as well. I wanted it to sound like earth and space at the same time, so I arranged acoustic guitars, strings, and winds to weave in and out of synth lines and electric guitar solos.”

If we had to choose our favorite track which, is almost impossible to do, we would with out question go with “To My Love” It is one of those songs that you keep with you deep within your heart. “To My Love” is a well written masterpiece that needs to be heard – We loved it.

“Teeth” from MAGANA is truly a musical journey that touched our music loving soul beyond words .

The Boston rock and roll band hit the record store for a new single out March 8 via Rum Bar Records, with the music video debuting March 20

We recently had the fantastic opportunity to check out the new single “Op-Operator” from Boston based rock and roll band The Shang Hi Los which is available today (Friday, March 8th ) via Rum Bar Records .

You can listen to “Op-Operator” Here

Sometimes (us included) you can take music a little too seriously. But then an amazing band comes along with an irresistible song and you remember how fun rock and roll can be. The Shang Hi-Los are without question an amazing band and their killer new track “Op-Operator” is absolutely an irresistible fun track that we can’t get enough of .

Marking The Shang Hi Los first dedicated dose of new music since last year’s debut album Aces Eights & Heartbreaks, the glossy and hook-laden “Op-Operator” showcases what the supergroup does best – linking up the retro-pop melodic cool of yesterday with a super polished and modernized sound narrated by our vulnerable human impulses. And here, it’s all about looking for love amongst stacks of vinyl – and finding something else entirely after that first connection is made.

A chance meeting in a record store turns into a telephonic love affair – or so it seems,” says co-vocalist, co-guitarist Dan Kopko. “Unfortunately for our protagonist, he soon finds it is a one-way connection and he is but one of many gentlemen callers!”

Listeners around New England have been phoning up The Shang Hi Los since their inception a few years ago. “Op-Operator” is the first in a series of forthcoming new singles and videos, all released by Rum Bar Records, further showcasing the band’s solidified 2024 lineup of Kopko (Watts, The Peppermint Kicks); co-vocalist and co-guitarist Jen D’Angora (Jenny Dee & The Deelinquents, The Dents); bassist Lee Harrington (The Neighborhoods); drummer Chuck Ferreira (Eddie Japan); and guitarist Chad Raleigh (The Rationales).

This is the sound and feeling that is fundamental to the band – upbeat, hooky, rich with layers of harmonies and guitars, and solid backbeat,” says D’Angora, who describes “Op-Operator” as “an instant mood booster” with its March release “timed perfectly for escaping the doldrums of winter.” Adds Kopko: “It’s been almost a year since our last release, so yeah, we are so ready to push some fresh music out there, like lilies from the frozen ground.”

That frozen ground led Hathaway and The Shang Hi Los to a pair of trusted filming locations for the “Op-Operator” video: Chris Anzalone’s renowned Stereo Jack’s Records in Somerville (“The band were all like little kids in a giant candy store; very inspiring to be among all those classic LPs while shooting,” says Kopko) and the familiar basement dwellings of local music scene champion and photographer Nicole Tammaro (“without a doubt the biggest supporter of Boston rock and roll there ever was or will be,” he adds).

The Shang Hi Los play Faces Brewing in Malden on April 5,

“Op-Operator” from The Shang Hi Los is an absolute music lovers dream , we recommend you disconnect from what you’re doing now and go listen .

Their parties, networking and money-making schemes carried on as normal. They flaunted their power with disdain, as people cowered in their homes, terrified and alone. We lost so many people, and so many things, yet they gained even more power and wealth.”

Olive Louise Delivers A Phenomenally Well Crafted Gem With Her Latest Single “Special”

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out the new single “Special” from New York based singer/storyteller Olive Louise .

You can listen to “Special” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

Music is mostly an auditory experience, meaning it is mainly an experience that we hear. However, a really good song or a really good piece of music isn’t something you just hear .. The really good stuff the music and songs that we go back to again and again….. We feel those songs in our heart and in our soul.

“Special” from Olive Louise is no doubt one of those magical songs that you not only hear but, you feel it with your whole heart and soul.

“Special” feels personal , Olive Louise is a gifted and skilled songwriter and storyteller. Her delivery and vocal approach makes the listener feel an instant connection.

My father used to tell me, “you don’t paint apples red or flowers more vibrant” and that is always in the forefront of my mind. I don’t want my imperfections washed out. You can be soft and have grit.” Sporting a Victorian-like disheveled “au natural” look, her visual world is eerily nostalgic. “The events in my life have forced me through so many huge changes. I never could have seen my life going the way it has. It’s had a profound effect on what I resonate with. I understand not fitting in and moving around and trying to make sense of things without time to, and so that’s the imagery I’m drawn to and the music I write reflects my lived experience.”

Special” was written about an amalgamation of experiences where she felt nervous and out of place and had wished she could feel comfortable as herself rather than instantly wishing to leave. Olive confides, “I created this character in the song, this perfect person, that comes along, understands how I’m feeling, and says “let’s go look at the view” because that’s what I had almost always wished for in those times.”

We are absolutely enthralled with “Special” from Olive Louise and see what she does next.

You Can Find Olive Louise on Instagram Here and on Twitter Here and TIK TOK Here

There are No Cracks On Caroline Romano’s Flawless New Single “Girl In A China Shop”

For reasons we have never really have been able to figure out , certain songs just hit different. You hear a song for the first time and instantly connect with it . We definitely felt with the new single “Girl In A China Shop” from Nashville-based alt-pop sensation Caroline Romano.

You can listen to “Girl In A China Shop” Here

The first thing we couldn’t help but notice on “Girl In China Shop” is that it is lyrically brilliant. Caroline Romano effortlessly weaves in and out of song with perfectly placed words , that will literally take your breath away.

I often feel like I break everything I touch. I’ve come to view myself as one major juxtaposition,” says Caroline. “One thing I’ve learned is that as life moves on, things get broken in the process. Whether it’s relationships, or my own heart, I’ve come to realize that it’s all too easy to shatter either one by my own hand. At times it’s left me feeling uncomfortable in my own skin and with my own footing. ‘girl in a china shop is my attempt at acknowledging that, in a way that summarizes the chaotic feeling that is navigating myself and other’s emotions.”

At just 22-years-old, the Nashville-based singer and songwriter has repeatedly demonstrated her ability to create anthems that capture the highs and lows of young adulthood. She memorializes her messy, relatable emotions into buoyant, unflinchingly honest songs.

We feel fortunate to be able to experience the incredible music of Caroline Romano . Every song is a melodic work of art and “Girl In A China Shop” is no exception.

We can’t wait to see what Caroline Romano does next .

The EP features a range of musical guests and collaborators, like Rob Moose (Sufjan Stevens, Phoebe Bridges, Taylor Swift), Harper James (Eighty Ninety, James Bay, Aaron Taos), Bobby Hawk (Taylor Swift, The 1975, Florence and the Machine), and Jesse Blum (Twenty One Pilots, MisterWives, Nas) that amplify the record’s richly textured sound.

Sky_A Delivers An Epic Visual For “Spider Silk”

Back in August, we had the opportunity to check out the amazing debut single “Spider Silk” from London based artist Sky_A

You can listen to “Spider Silk” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here and on Amazon Music Here

The project name for writer and producer Sky Ainsbury, Sky_A mixes elements of electronic, rock and acoustic music to paint futuristic yet intimate landscapes of sound. Working professionally as a filmmaker and audiovisual artist, Sky also brings a strong visual element to this project with a focus on long-form audiovisual experience.

Spider Silk was self-performed and produced, with the addition of virtuoso drums by Adam Betts (Three Trapped Tigers, Squarepusher, Jarvis Cocker) and additional production and mixing by Aneek Thapar (65daysofstatic, Rival Consoles, Mazoulew). It lyrically explores the concept of strength in vulnerability.

Discussing the creation of the self-filmed music video, Sky explains:The video was filmed completely DIY, using motion capture with AI to create the animations. I recorded myself dancing, manipulated it with 3D software, and then put the renders through Stable Diffusion to get the different textural effects. The performance footage I shot using a £15 Amazon ring light in the hallway of my pokey flat in Hackney! And for the establishing shot of the television in the abandoned building, I used Midjourney to generate the image, then expanded it with Photoshop Generative Fill to create the foreground.

I work as a video editor, and get so used to huge sums of money being thrown around on very average content, so it was a satisfying experiment to see what I could put together on literally zero budget.”

You can watch the amazing video for “Spider Silk “ below .

We were already huge fans of “Spider Silk “ and of Sky_A , the amazing video for “Spider Silk made our appreciation grow 10 fold.

It doesn’t matter if it’s creating music or incredible visuals , Sky_A is a gifted and talented artist. We can’t wait for more !

What makes us gravitate towards Eighty Ninety is that the duo always brings so much emotion and passion into every song they create . “The Hard Way “ is overflowing with raw emotion, it is a contemplative, cathartic love song.

The track opens with wistful piano chords and Abner’s tender vocals. As it goes on, the song gathers momentum with additional synths, percussion, and guitar. With the production we tried to evoke the sense of the relationship being increasingly tested by life, increasing the instrumentation with every chorus, almost like we are trying to break the song,” the duo explain. “But it holds — and by the end we’re hoping the swelling percussion and harmonies feel uplifting; there’s beauty in hope.”

Teen Idle Gives Us A Sweet New Single “Saccharine “

New album ‘Nonfiction’ set for release by indie label H1 Massive on September 29

We recently checked out the new single “Saccharine” from Teen Idle. It is the third single from New Jersey singer-songwriter,multi-instrumentalist and producer Sara Abdelbarry’s debut album “Nonfiction “ out next month via H1 Massive.

You can listen to “Saccharine” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

We have throughly enjoyed the previous singles “Birthday Cake” and “Norway” from Teen Idle and , we were anxiously awaiting the latest single “Saccharine”

The end-of-summer arrival of “Saccharine” aligns nicely with the track’s lyrical themes, which center around a relationship that’s starting to fade. “Saccharine” follows last month’s “Norway,” a song about being trapped in one’s hometown as an emerging adolescent and needing escape; and July’s “Birthday Cake,” where Abdelbarry watches a friend continue to make bad choices. Her latest offering glides with ease, surveying the fall of a doomed love while recalling contemporaries like Japanese Breakfast, HAIM, and Maggie Rogers.

It seems the layers of sweetness on “Saccharine “ are endless. We found ourselves absolutely mesmerized by the catchy melodies and beats that had us instantly hooked . In our opinion, “Saccharine “ in our opinion is exactly what the perfect indie-pop song should sound like. And… the absolute cherry on top of this sweet song is the amazing saxophone solo. We were so impressed by the saxophone which was brilliantly performed by New York City jazz saxophonist and Bjorkestra maestro Travis Sullivan, who through a magnetic sax performance brings a calm flair to the subtle yet dramatic track, enhancing its low-key dynamism.

“‘Saccharine’ is a song with a title that’s both sincere and sarcastic at the same time,” Abdelbarry says. “Call it a breakup song if you will – every album needs one – but the song reflects on a romance and the realization that things can start off pretty sweet but quickly turn sour if both people don’t put in the work to make a relationship last. The song chronicles the end of a relationship and the feelings of hurt, disrespect, and anger you can experience while still remembering the joyful moments.”

Music is all about painting a picture through notes and melodies. Through Teen Idle , Sara Abdelbarry has crafted an absolute masterpiece.

Daniel Ellsworth Delivers Amazing New Single “Flower Underground”

We recently got the opportunity to check out a my

the latest single “Flower Underground “ from prolific singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Daniel Ellsworth

***FULL DISCLOSURE *** Before embarking on this review for “Flower Undergroundwe were unfamiliar with Daniel Ellsworth ( frankly we don’t what took us so long )

Daniel Ellsworth is an amazing genre bending artist, his style falls somewhere between buoyant, hopeful pop, carefree indie rock, and pulse-driven hip-hop. We are absolutely mesmerized. Daniel Ellsworth is the epitome of an independent artistry. He’s a prolific songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who allows himself the freedom to develop his sound across a wide variety of genres and projects.

When I first wrote and recorded “Flower Underground”, the working title on the session was “Is This Music?” It was one of the very first things I ever fully produced on my own and I was throwing a ton of paint at the wall (Jazz piano solo in the middle of a pop song? Sure, why not) just to see what would stick. I found this audio sample that had the phrase “Like a flower underground” that I really loved and that led to the stream of consciousness lyrics you hear in the song. I wasn’t sure when I wrote it, but listening to it now I can hear that it’s about the uncertainty of throwing in the towel on my old life and moving to the west coast after 15 years in Nashville. Was I making the right decision? Am I letting people down? But then very quickly learning that it was exactly what I needed to do. It’s about coming out of a heavy darkness into some new light.”

Daniel’s and independent and collaborative works have been featured in a long list of films, TV episodes, and international ad campaigns. Now an established pop composer, he continues to produce and write collaboratively, expanding his extensive repertoire with regular releases from his three current projects, Daniel Ellsworth & The Great Lakes, Chaos Emeralds, and DARKMINDS, as well as his work as a solo artist. Despite his frequent collaboration and dexterity across genres, Ellsworth’s music is distinct: there is always the perfect hook, bold melodic lines that feel inventive and at the same time immediately recognizable.

Rutherford Royal Delivers Amazing New EP “Bleak”

We were beyond privileged to check out Rutherford Royal and his absolutely amazing new EP “Bleak”

Nashville based Americana meets rock singer/songwriter Rutherford Royal new EP “Bleak” profiles a series of misunderstandings about love .

You can listen to “Bleak” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

Each track presents as a cameo which is an attempt at describing times when I have felt lost in the liminal spaces of bachelorhood or failing relationships. Though the lyrics take plenty of artistic liberties, the songs themselves are true experiences which serve as a record of my personal struggle to connect,” confides Rutherford Royal.

Every song on “Bleak” is a well crafted musical composition that showcases Rutherford Royal’s honest and authentic songwriting style . He writes Southern Gothic cameos which he weaves into often dark, Indie Americana. After writing and curating the works for an album he records and mixes the music for Rutherford Royal (as well as other artists) in his remote cabin studio overlooking a hidden waterfall in southern Tennessee.

We love the groove on “Let Me In “ The chorus is catchy and memorable. The vocal on “Let Me In “ is flawless .

The mysterious and somber groove on “Bleak “ fits perfectly with the haunting vocals convey the message of the song perfectly.

The very soulful “Lords and Ladies “ is Rutherford Royal at his absolute best . This song is an absolute gem.

Keep It Between Us “ , “Summer Heat” and “Back Burner” are all magnificent songs that we have happily been keeping on repeat.

Bleak” is a must listen for any music lover. Seeing how good the EP is we couldn’t help but wonder how amazing all these songs must sound live .

RLYBLONDE REVEALS “FANTASY” MUSIC VIDEO

Wow talk about a great week.. After years of being the go-to photographer for New York’s favorite indie acts, Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary artist Carina Allen, aka rlyblonde, is taking her turn in the spotlight. She released her first single “Fantasy earlier this week, and she is back today to reveal the song’s official music video.

Directed by rlyblonde herself and filmmaker Jisun Lee, the “Fantasy” music video is a playful riff on The Bachelorette. “I find The Bachelor franchise to be the strangest, most ridiculous, most engrossing socially accepted cultural phenomenon on television,” she says. “How the hell do you really get to know someone in 10 minute intervals? How real is your relationship when you basically fabricated romance the entire time?”

Starring as America’s sweetheart, she confronts the ridiculous, over-the-top displays of femininity that women are expected to perform, especially in hetero dating culture. In contrast to the unrealistic whirlwind romances depicted on the show, the “Fantasy” video descends into chaos and concludes with the bachelorette becoming a runaway bride.

The video serves as a luxurious introduction not only to the audio-visual world of rlyblonde, but also to the capacity of her other upcoming venture, HOT CREATIVE, a fresh on the scene creative production company geared towards musicians like herself. Founded with a team of music-industry professionals along with a rock-solid freelance network, HOT CREATIVE aims to work hand-in-hand with artists to help build their own unique “fantasy worlds” for their music to live in.

rlyblonde will be celebrating the music video release tonight with her debut performance at Heaven Can Wait in New York City.

The video is a stunning visual companion to an absolutely brilliantly crafted song . rlyblonde is an amazingly talented artist and we can’t to see what she does next . You can check out the video for “Fantasy” below .
