Steve Geraci Delivers A Classic Soulful Sound With A Modern Vibe , With His Vibrant New Single, “Paradise Lost”

We recently had the stellar opportunity, to check out the glorious new single, “Paradise Lost”, from Needham (Ma ) native and front man , for the band, The Teardowns, Steve Geraci, You can listen to “Paradise Lost “ on Spotify Here. And on Apple Music Here

Right from the first note of , “Paradise Lost” it is a clear that Steve Geraci, has crafted a song with a classic soulful sound and a modern vibe .

The soulful sound found on , “Paradise Lost” , can be traced back to Steve’s first love, the saxophone.

Early on, I was in alto and tenor sax sections where I developed a love for harmony and dynamics,”

says Geraci. “It felt great to bring those early roots forward here.”

Paradise Lost” showcases another stylistic twist in Geraci’s shape-shifting approach to songwriting —something he fully embraces.

Alt-pop, glam rock, R&B — they’re all represented on the new EP,” he says. “If you like variety, look no further. As long as the music feels authentic, I’ll bring it to listeners who appreciate different styles.”

Produced and engineered by Dave Westner (Peter Wolf, Dropkick Murphys) and recorded earlier this year at David Minehan’s Woolly Mammoth Sound in Waltham, Massachusetts, the track features Westner on drums, piano, and bass, alongside Geraci’s guitar, sax, and vocals.

With his time split between solo work and fronting The Tear Downs, Geraci has built a collaborative,non-territorial dynamic that allows freedom across projects. Following his well-received singles “VoiceIn My Head” (March) and “Save Yourself” (August), “Paradise Lost” adds a raw and soulful chapter to Geraci’s evolving solo story.

“‘Paradise’ was a risk taker for me — rough and raw, but really emotive and relatable,” Geraci concludes. “When we listened back to the rough mix, we knew we’d bottled pure octane.”

Steve Geraci, is a master class musician who has the incredible ability to bring songs to life with his extraordinary songwriting and storytelling skills. A Steve Geraci song feels like a New York Time’s Best Seller , but in song form and “Paradise Lost” is no exception.

The Chelsea Curve Champion Community With Their New Extraordinary New Single, “Rally Round”

‘Rally ‘Round’ is part of ‘The Sound Cove’s Super Sonic Showcase, Vol.1’ comp, and The Chelsea Curve perform at the release party October 19 at The Burren in Somerville

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out the glorious new single, “Rally Round”, from Boston mod-pop trio, The Chelsea Curve. You can listen to “Rally RoundHere

The Chelsea Curve, deliver yet another soon to be iconic track with their new simply irresistible single, “Rally Round”

Applying a sense of communal awareness with the motivation of hope and a message of coexistence and solidarity, The Chelsea Curve invite us all to “Rally ‘Round” those around us, and hold close the ones we hold dear.

With a sugary-sweet embrace and a shimmering sound that connects a ‘60s folk-pop ethos with a college rock, jangle-pop, and C86 glide, and not to mention a bit of a melodic call-back to Boston’s mid-’90s indie scene, “Rally ‘Round” is the latest in a string of singles for The Chelsea Curve. It follows a pair of sonic firecrackers over the summer in restless powderkeg bop “Kindawanna” and the anthemic, Britpop-inspired “Never Come Down.”

Interestingly enough, the trio — bassist and vocalist Linda Pardee, guitarist and vocalist Tim Gillis, and drummer Bruce Caporal – admit this new indie cruiser has taken on a bit of a different vibe, thematically, since it was first penned back in 2023. And that’s due to the world around us.

“This song has morphed into a different meaning than what was originally intended when written,” admits Pardee. “The lyrics were initially about friendships, acquaintances, people coming into your life. Being part of a community. Finding your people. Despite differences, we can or should be able to at least co-exist.”

She adds: “I realized that, since writing the lyrics, they may come across a little differently now given the current social climate, and that’s okay. It’s hard to be an optimist sometimes, but when I sing ‘We’re all on the same side’, I am thinking – at the very least, we are all humans. But it’s not always easy to sing it, because it doesn’t feel that way.”

The Chelsea Curve, artfully craft music that touches the mind and soul but it is also music that you can’t help but groove to.

Bicycle Inn Drop Phenomenal New Single, “Ordinary Hell”

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out the new single, “Ordinary Hell”, from rising Boston emo outfit Bicycle Inn. You can listen to “Ordinary Hell” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

Bicycle Inn, bring power, passion , melody and authenticity on their latest single, “Ordinary Hell” and it is a thing of beauty.

Photo Olivia St. Arnold

The track follows September’s Longsword (4th Place),” which marked the band’s first release in two years and reintroduced them with a sharpened sense of purpose and sonic ambition.

If “Longsword” was about confronting stagnation, “Ordinary Hell” digs deeper — turning inward to explore faith, exhaustion, and the search for meaning amid emotional and spiritual burnout.

Ordinary Hell’ is a critique on the dead-faith culture of today. It’s a deeper look behind the curtain of evangelical emptiness — a gospel presiding over the endless push and pull of suffering, only for those deemed ‘blessed’ and ‘filled’ to realize they are empty,” says the band. “It’s a reflection on the cyclical nature of relying on others to fulfill you, only to immediately empty yourself out again. There’s no rest, no rejuvenation — only the gospel of self; performative holiness.

Recorded over two sessions with Gary Cioni at Soundacres Studio(Hot Mulligan, Free Throw, Prince Daddy & The Hyena) during 2023 and 2024, “Ordinary Hell” features guest appearances from Ryan O’Rourke (Innerlove.), Kyle Kinney(Excuse Me, Who Are You?), and Maggie Ciora, expanding Bicycle Inn’s already rich emotional palette.

With shimmering guitars, soaring vocals, and lyrics that confront the sacred and the hollow alike, “Ordinary Hell” continues Bicycle Inn’s steady climb as one of the most introspective and musically dynamic voices in modern emo.

We have a warm spot in our hearts for bands from Boston. But….it doesn’t matter where they are from …. Bicycle Inn, has sculpted a work of art with “Ordinary Hell”

Tiberius Issue Final Single, “Painting Of A Tree” From Nov 14th “Troubadour “ LP

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out the new single, “Painting Of A Tree” , from Boston , based “farm “ emo band, Tiberius. You can listen to “Painting Of A Tree” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

There is a real cinematic feel on “Painting Of A Tree” from Tiberius.

Tiberius was originally a solo outing for Rutland, VT-based songwriter Brendan Wright(they/them), with the project growing to a four-piece band upon Wright’s relocation to Boston. This expanded lineup produces a catchy and cacophonous sound that blends Indie Punk, Alt Country and Psychedelia with confessional, conversational lyrics, which they describe as “Farm Emo.”

Following the more frantic Emo Rock sounds of the Sag and Felt singles, and the rustic Poppy warmth of Moab,”this new single is an aching, slow-burning sprawl, which takes a left turn into darker territory. Downtempo instrumental breaks clash with pounding percussion and raw distortion, as Wright exorcises demons through introspective lyrics like “I hope they love you / Like I do / At least the way I wanted to / Not the way I did.”

Speaking on “Painting of a Tree,” Wright shares:

There’s this older man I work with – a kooky gentleman who’s kind of off his rocker – but at the same time can incite this erudite understanding of the human condition. When I asked him if he had any advice for someone really mulling over some heartache, he chuckled. He said, ‘an artist cannot paint a tree, unless they examine all aspects of it.’ I wrote, Painting of a Tree, as an homage to this idea that this kind of hurt was a truly human experience. A kind of pain I wouldn’t wish on anyone, but something that I feel thankful to have experienced. The kind of pain that makes us who we are.” – Brendan Wright (they/them)

We love the vibe of “Painting Of A Tree” and we are anxiously awaiting the release of “Troubadour” on November 14th as well as the upcoming album tour.

The ‘Troubadour’ album is available for pre-order and pre-save. The “Sag,” “Felt,” and “Moab” singles are also available now

Battlemode Absolutely Blow The Roof Off With Latest Gem, “NVR KNO”

Art Credit: Narvicto DeJesus

We recently had the grand opportunity to check out the latest single, “NVR KNO”, from Boston chiptune collective, Battlemode. You can listen to “NVR KNO” Here

Battlemode bleep/bloop into the autumn season with a lively and unhinged new hyper-pop bop called “NVR KNO,” set for streaming release today ( Thursday, September 11)

We all need to level up in our lives , and we can’t think of a better way to do that than to bask in the 8-bit glow of “NVR KNO”, from Battlemode.

“NVR KNO”, is a euphoric tune, that is a kaleidoscopic cautionary tale about dating in the 2020s, arrives with a rainbow comet tail alongside a live show and dance party slate that will send your circuit board into overdrive.

It’s no wonder the panoramic 8-bit electronic-pop project of Biff, Astro, and Sam Mulligan enlisted two new members to the Battlemode posse, bringing sweet boys Leo (guitar/bass) and Isaiah (drums) into the mix to flesh out the sound and enhance the overall sonic attack.

There’s still so much left to do,” says Astro. “We feel like Boston Calling was just a stepping stone onto our future purpose. We still have an entire genre to define. We’re definitely getting a Grammy someday but for now we plan to write our best music yet, stay in Boston, and flood the city with amazing chiptune.”

The plan holds up. The “NVR KNO” drop is quickly followed by Hack The Planet, a 30th anniversary audio/visual orgasm co-hosted with Double Feature on Friday, September 12 that brings ‘90s cult classic techno-drama Hackers back to the Somerville Theatre, where Battlemode will perform live ahead of the film

After last year’s sold-out party, this year’s Hackers screening brings stars Laurence Mason (Lord Nikon) and Renoly Santiago (Phantom Phreak) to an all-evening rager that includes digital, binary code projections all over the 115-year-old theatre by Mike Videopunk; live remixes of the film presented by Double Feature (Wubson x Danny Aye), and an afterparty for the true believers of what the band calls “Hot Hacker Autumn.”

From there, Battlemode appear at the 2025 Moon Over Salem festival at Bit Bar in downtown Salem on Saturday, September 13, prepare their own Astro Fest for late September (details on that very soon!), and are busy playing a full serving of parties in New York City and all over New England — all while collaborating with other local artists and working tirelessly to get Willie Burmley Jr,. elected as the next mayor of their home base of Somerville

And let’s not forget the cherry on the chiptune cake….the Battle-bois are carefully growing the Boston chiptune community, planning potential live dates in Japan come 2026, and organizing the sophomore edition of their own Boston Bitdown, which pressed play earlier this year as instantly one of the largest chiptune festivals in the world, bringing more than 50 artists to the Boston area across five venues in three days.

Battlemode, has a lot going on and we are here for all of it.

We Are Completely Enthralled With The Classic Sound Of “Save Yourself “, From Steve Geraci

We recently had the stellar opportunity to check out the glorious new single,”Save Yourself “, from Boston musician, Steve Geraci. You can listen to “Save Yourself “ on Spotify Here, Apple Music Here and on Bandcamp, Here

Steve Geraci, has brilliantly crafted an absolute gem, with his latest single, “Save Yourself “

When the veteran Boston musician was penning the words to his latest single, a blistering fit of frenzied alternative rock and neo-glam called “Save Yourself,” which is out today , ( Friday, August 22) , his initial vision of a mythical journey and the characters who would discover a new land and eventually defend it as their own was actually rooted in history. Especially his own.

Turns out, Geraci, the Needham native and frontman for rock band The Tear Downs, was tapping into his own family’s lineage, and leaning into a storyline of past generations coming to this country to find a better life. What began as a wild, made-up tale of fantasy was suddenly hitting close to home.

“‘Save Yourself’ is celebrating the immigrant’s journey to the United States – a very real journey experienced by my ancestors and many other Americans,” Geraci says. “My grandparents’ journey, and my father’s journey. The idea of coming to a foreign country where you didn’t speak the language or know the people for the chance of a better life for your family – that’s the American dream.”

The subject matter has become all the more timely, given recent current events and news headlines detailing our government’s increasingly hostile view on immigration of all kinds. But Geraci knows that his family came to this country seeking that aforementioned American dream, and hopes one day we as a society will be as accepting as prior generations were.

In contrast to how immigrants are being treated today,” he adds, “I wanted to share a glimpse of how it once was in the U.S., and how I believe it will be again.”

“Save Yourself” was produced and engineered by Dave Westner, known for his work with homegrown luminaries Peter Wolf and Dropkick Murphys, and recorded earlier this year at David Minehan’s Woolly Mammoth Sound in Waltham, Massachusetts, a studio often frequented by The Tear Downs. Westner also supplies drums on the track, adding some thunder to Geraci’s guitar, bass, and vocals.

Steve Geraci, is a voice that we need in today’s musical landscape, “Save Yourself “, is a must listen.

Escape Durgin Releases Beyond Buzz-worthy Self Titled Debut Album, That Has “Album Of The Year” Vibes

American Poet and Educator, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, once said “Music is the universal language of mankind “

We absolutely believe the above statement to be a hundred percent true and believe it even more, after listening to the self -titled debut album from Lowell Massachusetts, based rock band , Escape Durgin. You can listen to the debut album, Here

It is our humble opinion that if a band chooses to record an album, it should be the very best representation of the band. This may seem like a simple task however, it is not always the case. Escape Durgin does this and so much more with their new record.

From the moment we heard the opening chord on “Poster Child”, we knew our ears and music loving soul were in for an unforgettable musical experience…. And we were right.

Fast , melodic and laced with perfectly placed lyrics, “I can’t do things the way you want me to  because I  am one of one” “Poster Child” is the perfect opening track.

Courtesy Of Band – From left to right of band photo Sean Connors (Bass, Vocals), Michael Sirard (guitar, vocals), Quinton Gibbons (Guitar, Vocals), Avery Stout (drums)

Since meeting each other in college, Escape Durgin has been dedicated to being the best band they can be. Playing shows all over Massachusetts, tirelessly writing, rehearsing, and refining their original material. Quinton, Michael, Sean, and Avery, have crafted a debut album that leaves nothing unsaid , the listener gets an 11 track and 41 minute body of work that just might make Escape Durgin one of your new favorite bands.

Picking a favorite song off the record is like asking a parent to pick a favorite kid ( it is almost impossible) You can honestly pick any track . The epic “Skin” is an absolute musical opus that literally took our breath away . Vocally and melodically brilliant. Our favorite lyric hands down comes from “Skin” – “If you could look inside my brain would you be surprised that  it looks like a shooting star every time you cross my mind, nice to see you everyday every-time I close my eyes , It was such a luxury to have your skin right next to mine” I mean how can you not love those lyrics??? Pure freaking poetry.

Escape Durgin, might have peaked our curiosity with singles, “Like Vultures” and “Free Shipping “ but honestly that’s only the tip of the iceberg. “Standing In The Rain”, “Grove Street “ and “Change” are solid songs that we found ourselves constantly hitting repeat on .

If we had to pick a favorite song…. It would without question be ….. “9 Days” If we’re being honest we fell hard for this one… It is Escape Durgin at their very very best .

Escape Durgin’s exceptional debut album , was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Casey Dawson

The best part about Escape Durgin… Is that they are Escape Durgin. They are 100 percent themselves and that makes for a meaningful and thought provoking debut album that you won’t soon forget.

Cover art by Rachel Creemers @talimk7

We recently had the distinct honor and privilege to check out the new single and animated lyric video , for “Blank Wall” , North Shore, Massachusetts, power emo band , Cape Crush . You can listen to “Blank WallHere

You can watch the lyric video below

Whenever, we are asked to name a band that people need to checkout, we always lead with Cape Crush. One listen to their latest brilliantly crafted new single, “Blank Wall” and you will immediately understand why.

Courtesy Of The Band

“Blank Wall”, captures a raw sense of generational disillusionment and urgency, drawing a direct line from millennial burnout to the growing chasm between the wealthy and the working class.

Written by lead vocalist and guitarist Ali Lipman, “Blank Wall” is as much a protest as it is a personal reckoning. Lipman was struck with inspiration while reading the comments under Propagandhi’s recent record announcement and a wave of frustration and recognition hit: we’ve been screaming these songs for 30 years, and things have only gotten worse.

I thought about how many of us, especially in the music scene and activist spaces, have spent a lifetime organizing, fighting, showing up, singing,” says Lipman. “We’ve done everything we’re supposed to do. Got an education, showed up to the polls, engaged in the system, and yet here we are, watching democracy get gutted and billionaires fly to space while most of us drown in debt, live paycheck to paycheck, and will never own a home.”

“Blank Wall” is brimming with flawless vocals and smart lyrics that artfully showcase artistic genius of Cape Crush.

The single marks a new chapter for Cape Crush: Lipman (vocals/guitar), James Christopher (guitar), Jake Letizia(bass), and Mike O’Toole (drum), as they double down on using their platform not just to feel, but to fight.

Adding to the excitement of “Blank Wall”, is the exquisite animated lyric video, created by visual artist Rachel Creemers, brings the song’s themes into reality. Following the journey from a hopeful and optimistic young person who faces a tide that will never stop rising. It’s part nightmare, part call-to-action.

We encourage you to immediately checkout the melodic masterpiece that is “Blank Wall”, from Cape Crush , you will not be disappointed.

One Of The Smartest Things You Can Do Today, Is To Check Out The Red Hot New Single, “Dumb (Take Me Out)” From The Fool’s Agenda

Sophomore album set for October release

We recently had the stellar opportunity to check out the new single, “Dumb ( Take Me Out), from Salem, Mass, grunge-pop and alternative rock band, The Fool’s Agenda. You can listen “Dumb ( Take Me Out) Here

The Fool’s Agenda, prove from the very first note of “Dumb( Take Me Out) that they have smart and electrifying grunge pop sound that you would be dumb not to turn it all the way up.

The Fool’s Agenda, poke fun at poseurs in grand brilliantly loud fashion and we love every minute of it.

The follow-up to March’s “Monsters” and May’s “Feel So High,” the latest from the cynically whimsical quartet is a dizzying spell of riff-fueled alt-rock rage and will be featured on their forthcoming sophomore album, due out in October.

Rock and roll has never been about being cool or trendy – it’s always been misfits making art to feel seen by one another,” say The Fool’s Agenda. “Somewhere along the line, it became somewhat of a popularity contest: Who’s got the best content, the coolest outfits; people looking to be adored as a sense of validation through their art rather than looking for a community and to make a difference with it. It’s really easy to fall into that trap when you so badly want to be successful. This song is making fun of that whole mentality.”

And that it does. As songwriter, lyricist, and powerhouse vocalist Rhiannon Raine blasts through the track with a breakneck delivery that shifts from hypnotic deadpan to confrontational fury, the rest of the band – guitarist Kyle Erickson; bassist Jon Gray; and percussionist Kamryn Bode – backs her up with a punk rock ferocity and frenzied urgency.

Dumb (Take Me Out)” should sound as lively on stage as it does on record when The Fool’s Agenda play “Dumb (Take Me Out)” should sound as lively on stage as it does on record when The Fool’s Agenda play Warehouse XI in Somerville with Pearl on release night, August 15, as well as Moon Base One in their native Salem on August 31 in support of Kick Out The Rogue and Super Beef. A few days later, they return to the sober all-ages venue for a headlining gig on September 5. The next day, The Fool’s Agenda take it outside for a free outdoor matinee show at Wakefield Porchfest on September 6, and then play Ralph’s in Worcester on September 27 with Gold Star Boulevard.

Go find your favorite listening spot, and get lost in the absolute melodic goodness of “Dumb (Take Me Out )” from The Fool’s Agenda.

Tiberius Make Our Music Loving Soul Happy With New Single, “Felt”

The well constructed backbeat on “Felt”, immediately got our attention. Wright’s vocal performance is an absolute thing of beauty , combined with the well formed melodies. Tiberius, have an instant hit on their hands.

Originally a solo project for Brendan Wright (they/them), Tiberius has evolved into a catchy and cacophonous four-piece,
producing what Wright calls “Farm Emo.” This expanded lineup of Wright, bassist KelvenKPPolite (he/him), drummer Sam
Blumenstiel (he/him), and pedal steel player Pat King (they/them) blends Indie Punk, Alt Country and Psychedelia with
confessional, yet conversational and relatable songwriting.

Commenting on the song, Wright shares:

When I wrote Felt, I was fairly fresh out of a breakup and was spending a lot of time looking for distractions. Instead of tackling
some bigger questions and engaging in a healthy recovery, I was tucking away my feelings into compartments and distracting
myself with casual dating. I was spending some late nights slipping into the backstories of strangers’ lives – exhilarating, but
merely theatrical. It never eased the issue at hand. I was alone, and I was terrified to sit with that.“

BIG RAV Showcase Big Brilliant Sound , On Debut Album, “MESS I’VE MADE”

We recently had the distinct honor of checking out the amazing debut album, “MESS I’VE MADE” , from Boston, based alternative rock band, Big Rav “ ( SPOILER ALERT: 🚨 It Is Absolutely Breathtakingly AWESOME )

You can listen to the very epic, “MESS I’VE MADE” Here

We are going to be honest, as soon as we heard the opening note on the opening track, “Another Tomorrow “, on “MESS I’VE MADE” we were instantly enthralled by the one of kind , mind blowing sound of Big Rav

Big Rav will be playing their release show in support of the album Saturday, August 2nd at 7:00 PM at The Burren in Somerville, MA. Tickets are available for presale Here

Big Rav (Maddy Montaquila, vocals, keys, Dan Colvin, guitar, Seamus Winters, bass, and Nick Montaquila, percussion) have a next level musical synergy that feels positively otherworldly.

No stranger to the Boston music scene, Big Rav has been filling local venues andporchfests for the past four years with their unique blend of in-your-face, pop punkinspired vocals, overdriven and melodic guitar riffs and solos, heavy, modal basslines, vintage synths, and foundational, never obvious grooves (think Paramore meets Rush).

Self-deprecating title aside, the band is incredibly proud of this labor of love which came to be over a series of intermittent recording sessions with Sean McLaughlin of 37’ Productions coordinated between the individual members’ “real jobs” (a product manager, a developer, an engineer, and an accountant walk into a bar…) and the obligations that come with adulthood. In a sense, that is the true theme of the album -grappling with the phenomenon of growing up, and the infinite possibilities of lifebecoming casualty to responsibilities, relationship issues, and struggles with mentalhealth. Throw in a wall of layered guitars, thick bass, bombastic drumming, and raw, expressive vocals, and you arrive at the essence of the appropriately labeled “Big Rav” sound.

Every song, on “MESS I’VE MADE”, had us tapping and singing along almost instantly . We found ourselves entranced with “Alien” with its bluesy vibe , showing off the band’s versatility.

Our favorite track on the album, without question is the amazing title track, “MESS I’VE MADE” The combination of the ultra cool melodic groove and the flawless vocals, make “MESS I’VE MADE” , an instant classic.

You owe it to your music loving heart to check out the stunningly brilliant debut album, “MESS I’VE MADE” from Big Rav

The Gypsy Moths Have Us Wanting More With Epically Pleasing New EP, “Five By Five From Four”

We recently had the absolutely sensational opportunity to check out the new EP, “Five By Five From Four”, via Rum Bar Records, from Massachusetts garage-pop soul shakers, The Gypsy Moths. (Spoiler Alert: This EP Will Make Fall Hopelessly In Love With The Gypsy Moths)

You can listen to “Five By Five From Four “ on Spotify Here, Apple Music Here

Right from the first note on “And You Know I Do”, on – “Five By Five From Four” we were instantly smitten with the one of a kind sound from The Gypsy Moths

The five-track record, which arrives today (July 25th) is a proper primer for the quintet’s ambitious double-album set for release in October.

The EP is perfectly timed , as The Gypsy Moths unveil the record just ahead of appearing at Rum Bar labelmates The Dogmatics’ album release party blowout on Saturday, July 26 at the French-American Victory Club in Waltham, alongside Band 19, Last Stand, Stop Calling Me Frank, and several others.

The title of Five By Five From Four is also a nod to the band – a group of longtime friends, collaborators, and conspirators consisting of Steve O’Brien (vocals); Chris Conway (guitar, vocals, keyboards, percussion); Phil Thompson (bass); Matt Miceli (drums and percussion); and Dave Buckley (keyboards) – and the forthcoming double-LP: Five songs, by five Moths, from four sides of the album.

Courtesy Of The Band

There is an authentic “feel good” sound that is present throughout the EP, that we are positivity over the moon about.

This is probably the most excited I’ve been for any of our releases,” says Conway, who produced the EP. “We’ve pushed the corners further on what the band is all about musically, both with our recordings and in the writing. All five of us have known each other and played music in one form or another with each other going back to the mid-’80s when we were in high school together, so this set of recordings is the first representation of that bond of music, friendship, and creativity that has been coming together for over 40 years now.”

Five By Five From Four, was recorded with Ed Riemer at Edsbarn in Canton, Massachusetts, and mastered by Dave Westner

The record both blooms in several creative directions while oddly continuing in a Gypsy Moths throughline: “Before The Lights Went Out” tugs at jangle-pop heartstrings with an R&B-rock undercurrent; “Cover For Me” is a swagger strut of a tune that wouldn’t be out of place on a long-lost ‘60s best-of comp; and “Fold Up The Air” boasts a piano and guitar riff lead before vividly blossoming into glam and psych daydream territories.

The stellar “Five By Five From Four “ , from The Gypsy Moths, is a can’t miss.

The Dogmatics Are Going Places Fast With Lively New Album, “Nowheresville”

First Album In 39 Years

We recently had the stellar opportunity to check out the album, “Nowheresville” , via Rum Bar Records, from Boston, garage legends, The Dogmatics. You can listen to “Nowheresville on Spotify Here, Apple Music Here

The Dogmatics, are a timeless energy that is vibrantly on display on the positively electrifying “Nowheresville”

The common thread that links the band from its ‘80s heyday to now is family. Music history is littered with collectives known loosely as family bands, but it can be argued there has never been a family band quite like The Dogmatics. The sentiment fueled their inaugural run 40 years ago, launching out of the vibrant Boston music scene in 1981, and is the creative conduit that energizes this awe-inspiring second act.

The best part of this new era is what it has always been – fun and friendship,” says co-vocalist and guitarist Jerry Lehane, joined in The Dogmatics by longtime confidants Peter O’Halloran (rhythm guitarist and vocalist); Jimmy O’Halloran (bass); and Tom Long (drums), with 2019 recruit James Young on mandolin, guitar, and assorted vocals.

Everything The Dogmatics do revolves around this keen sense of family pride, and the album reflects this on several fronts: Honoring fallen brother and bassist Paul O’Halloran, whose tragic 1986 death brought a sudden end to the first iteration of the group; presenting Nowheresville with artwork of a vintage photo snapped by Mary Lou O’Halloran depicting two kids from the Pacific Northwest, rocking perhaps the very first Dogmatics t-shirt design several decades ago; and taking its title from a song Lehane and Paul O’Halloran were working on just before he passed, enduring after only as a long-lost live recording on WERS’ classic Metrowave radio show and a few efforts to record it with later projects that never came to fruition.

Even the album’s record release party, a raucous one-day mini-festival at Waltham’s French American Victory Club on Saturday, July 26, serves as a communal collection of The Dogmatics’ extended network of friends and family. The inspired lineup, in addition to The Dogmatics, features Black Cheers, Jay Allen and the Archcriminals, Last Stand, Gypsy Moths, Tom Baker and the Double Down, Stop Calling Me Frank, and Band 19.

The 10 songs on the album show a lot of variety and breadth beyond the classic garage-rocking reputation,” says Young, who grew up listening to the band before officially joining for this second act. “As a new-ish member to the band who started as a fan, it’s great to see the feedback about the band making new music that’s relevant today, and not just being a reunion act. I’ve always had so much respect for the individual band members as musicians, it’s a pleasure and privilege to be part of demonstrating the flex of those skills.”

Nowheresville is more than just a straight garage rock record. The 10 tracks offer an eclectic spectrum of genres and styles. Recorded at Edsbarn in Canton, produced and engineered by Ed Riemer, and mastered by Dave Westner,

We found ourselves endlessly basking in the eclectic glow of “Nowheresville “ Tracks like “You’ve Got What I want, and Library Girl” give off a Ramones/ Descendents vibe. While , we felt a folk/country / rockabilly feel with “Con Job” .So many bands tend only have one gear – this is definitely not the case with The Dogmatics on “Nowheresville”

Every track on “Nowheresville” , from The Dogmatics, is better than the last . This is an album that is a must listen.

The EP, was created while Preston earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Berklee College of

Music. Mixed by Grammy-winner Ariel Borujow,

The other three singles, from “Stranger At Best”, could be used to help a story unfold on the silver screen.

We were immediately taken with the tone and tempo with “Wrong” as Preston proved effortlessly on the track that he is a multi dimensional performer.

As we commented in our original review, “5 to 9” is a lively and vibrant song that has Preston Lydotes, firing on all cylinders. What we love about “5 to 9” is the authentically woven soulfulness that is felt throughout the song .

There is a subtle blues feel to “The Fallout “ that we absolutely love . On “The Fallout”, Preston artfully shows his gift not only as a musician but all as a gifted and talented storyteller.

The title track, “Stranger At Best” is the newest track on the EP, and is the perfect example of the evolving artistry of Preston Lydotes. Billy Dodge Moody Has Crafted An Instant Classic With New EP, “Ephemera: Part 1”

We recently had the distinct honor to check out the new EP, “Ephemera:Part 1”, from Boston, singer-songwriter, Billy Dodge Moody. You can listen to “Ephemera:Part 1” on Bandcamp Here , Spotify Here, Apple Music Here

Billy Dodge Moody, proves on “Ephemera:Part 1” that he is without question, a true voice of musical importance.

Courtesy Of The Artist

The four-track effort is the first in a series of EPs that will compose his next album, thematically centering around navigating chaos and finding clarity in life. A few months later, Moody takes the record and his magnetic sound to the stage, performing live at The Extended Play Sessions Live From The Fallout Shelter in Norwood on November 15.

Everything on this EP felt like it came from a natural, honest, genuine place in the writing process,” Moody says. “They’re songs I wanted to write, versus what I thought people would like. The themes in the lyrics are pretty universal, so I hope listeners find at least something to connect with.”

Ephemera is Moody’s first extended release since 2022 album Condition, and is led by a pair of singles in May’s cinematic “Meaning to Disaster” and June’s buoyant and summer flavored “Nobody.” Both tracks helped earn the EP a place on WBUR’s Summer Music Preview, billing Ephemera as one of the most-anticipated New England releases this season and noting Moody’s “unbelievable knack for writing folk-pop mini-masterpieces… everything from dramatic chamber folk to appealing sunshine pop…”

The reflective and authentic feel of Ephemera opener, “ Meaning to Disaster” is Billy Dodge Moody at his absolute best , melodically perfect with a vocal performance that you can feel deep in your soul.

“Nobody” has a upbeat/ summer chill feel with indie pop elements , but also explores darker themes, its lyrics warn the listener about how we’re all dealing with internal struggles, and no one really understands what we’re all privately facing each day.

The two new tracks that round out the EP, are beautifully crafted songs that both eloquently show the breathtaking artistry of Billy Dodge Moody.

“Made to Decide,” with backing vocals from Hannah Foxman adding to the aching harmony, centers around making difficult choices, inspired by an ailing pet – his cat Bruce – who became gravely ill, and passed away a day before his euthanasia appointment after Moody and his wife spent weeks painstakingly mulling the decision.

“The title is a bit of a double entendre in that ‘made’ refers to both being, and feeling, forced to choose between two shitty options, and that life in general is decision-making and how the oftentimes difficult choices we make shape who we are and who we’ll become,” Moody admits. “Part of the song is also about that where there are people, pets, and things that come into our lives that we never intended to fall for or develop such a deep connection to. The song was also used as a vessel to talk about other divisive aspects of life that others value and oppose like faith, ideology and overall perspective of mortality.”

The Ep closes with stunningly melodically perfect “Suddenly” , filled beautifully with heartfelt emotion, “Suddenly” left us absolutely speechless , as Moody, reflects on his position as a musician, and explores the highs and lows – and more lows – of being an independent creative at a time when art is seemingly not valued by those who consume it.

It’s mostly about the struggle and perseverance of an artist,” he adds, “maintaining hope and realizing things change when you least expect it, especially when you feel like you’ve been spinning your wheels on something that never comes to any sort of resolution or catharsis.”

Ephemera was produced by Brian Charles, who engineered the EP over several sessions alongside co-producer and engineer Annie Hoffman. Recording the EP began at Guilford Sound up in Vermont, and then completed closer to home at Charles’ freshly-minted Rare Signals studio in Cambridge, Massachusetts

For these songs, the vocalist, guitarist, and keyboardist Moody was joined in-studio by Sam Bouve on bass; Parker Goessling on guitar; Tyler Simko on keyboards; Jon Chapman on drums; and the aforementioned Foxman on backup vocals. And Charles led the way.

“Ephemera: Part 1”, from Billy Dodge Moody is the kind of record that feels timeless the first time you listen to it.

The Dogmatics Have Exactly What We Need With New Single, “You’ve Got What I Want”

We recently had the stellar opportunity to check out the new single, via Rum Bar Records, “You’ve Got What I Want”, from Legendary Boston garage rock band, The Dogmatics. You can listen to “You’ve Got What I Want” on Spotify Here, Apple Music Here and on Bandcamp Here

Brimming with classic Dogmatics punkabilly and surf n’ skate energy at an economical 95 seconds in length, “You’ve Got What I Want” is the final single before the band unleashes its first new full-length album in nearly four decades, arriving on Friday, July 18.

“You’ve Got What I Want “ is a melodic and sonic dream. Nobody brings it like The Dogmatics…. NOBODY! We were dancing and singing along instantly.

The Dogmatics, and their new single, “You’ve Got What I Want” represent a feeling and a sound that feels like a celebration that is a reserved for your birthday and the Fourth of July. It just feels right

A raucous record release party at Waltham’s French American Victory Club follows the release on the next weekend on Saturday, July 26, and the lineup is pretty much its own one-off music festival. Joining The Dogmatics from afternoon to evening are a host of friends and family, rounding up the definable sound of Boston across several decades: Black Cheers, Jay Allen and the Archcriminals, Last Stand, Gypsy Moths, Tom Baker and the Double Down, Stop Calling Me Frank, and Band 19.

Recorded at Edsbarn in Canton, Massachusetts, and produced and engineered by Ed Riemer with mastering by Dave Westner, “You’ve Got What I Want” is a link to The Dogmatics’ past that also allows them to embrace the future. After reforming in 2019, the band has gigged regularly around New England, releasing a series of well-received singles and a 2022 EP for Rum Bar in Drop The Needle. Uninterested in being purely a throwback or nostalgia band, the newly-released Dogmatics material sounds like it came from a new band emerging out of an Allston basement or Somerville loft.

We are all in on “You’ve Got What I Want” from The Dogmatics, and know you will be too!

Lovina Falls Have Reached The Top Of The Mountain, With Breathtaking New Single, “Light and Low”

Cover collage art by Lindsey Walker, www.artlwg.com

There is a pure and radiant glow that beautifully flows throughout the simply stunning new single “Light And Low” You can listen to “Light And Low” Here

Lovina Falls has a simple message for those seeking some kind of comfort in this unsteady, overwhelming, and uninspired 2025: “The world is blowing up, so find yourself and your people and move forward together, regardless, and in spite of, the chaos around.”

We couldn’t agree more …. Lovina Falls, the dark and whimsical dream-pop and art-rock project from Boston singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Valerie Forgione, which returns to the streams with their first new music of 2025 in “Light and Low,” a rousing jaunt of electronic sounds, harpsichord, and dizzying propulsion that hits the streams on Friday, June 13. The track arrives before the official release party later that night, held at Deep Cuts in Medford alongside The Daylilies and RoseR

At its core, “Light and Low” relays an internal vision to keep moving, to push forward, and power through with a sense of community and compassion. It certainly does not hurt that one can dance to it.

“‘Light and Low’ is about recognizing that as time goes on, it’s ok to let go of old and ‘historic thinking’ to create a new path through and out of the Thicket of Now,” Forgione says. “It’s about knowing that when things change, the path is not predestined. Change the change. Move with conviction but head gracefully into the unknown, light and low.”

Light and Low” continues to position Lovina Falls as a collaborative project, where Forgione performs most of the instrumentation in the studio before it blossoms on stage with the live band. What began as a solo outlet to attempt a reconnection into her past as a path forward has now evolved and emerged into a full-fledged ensemble, playing shows routinely and emerging as one of Boston’s most dynamic live on-stage septets.

And live on stage, where the Lovina Falls sound truly emerges, the band swells to a consuming wall of sound and melody, featuring two other fellow Mistle Thrush members in guitarist Scott Patalano and bassist Matt Klain, and joined by Carrie Ingber on keys, Chuck Ferreira on drums, Brenden Cobb also on guitar, and Laura England Klain and Emily Drohan on vocals

On “Light and Low”, Forgione performs vocals, piano, harpsichord, keyboards, bass, and drum programming, and is joined by fellow Mistle Thrush bandmate and drummer Todd Demma, now of Chameleons, alongside Cobb on tremolo guitar and co-producer David Minehan on additional guitar.

There is something very important and worthy about “Light and Low”, from Lovina Falls, it is a much needed message that artfully cuts through the static and beautifully announces its importance.

Already Dead Punches The Clock With Epic New Single, “Time”

New EP coming June 20 titled I Think It’s Time To Leave…

We recently had the glorious opportunity to check out the new single, “Time” from Massachusetts punks, Already Dead (Spoiler Alert: This Song Freaking Scorches) You can listen to “Time” on Spotify Here , Apple Music , Bandcamp Here

We have been pretty smitten with the raw and powerful sound from Already Dead, for quite some time. Now they come roaring back into view with their explosive new single, “Time” The blazing new single, comes ahead of their new EP, “I Think It’s Time To Leave..” which arrives, June 20th .

Courtesy Of The Band

The new record comes hot on the heels of last year’s explosive Something Like a War album – which earned the band mentions and microphones everywhere from WGBH’s The Culture Show and WBUR, Boston’s NPR to New Noise, Maximum Rocknroll, and Dying Scene – and delivers Already Dead’s first-ever vinyl issue. The 7-inch release party goes down Saturday, June 28 at Koto in Lowell alongside Vauli, The McGunks, and Autumn Astronauts

The new record also shows off a reloaded and rebooted Already Dead lineup, as founding members Dan Cummings (vocals and guitar) and Brandon Bartlett (vocals and guitars) are now rounded out by Ian Killpartrick (bass) and Forgie (drums). Cummings and Bartlett, who also split writing duties on this record, with Bartlett taking on an enhanced role in the band’s creative process, did not have to look far for the new members. In fact, they just had to look at their own teenage backyards located just outside of Boston

The whole band is now from the same damn small town, born and raised,” Cummings says with a laugh. “We all know each other in different ways, and are somewhat separated by age, but there is a certain camaraderie when you grew up partying in the same woods or neighborhoods. It made it really easy to be comfortable and start creating immediately.”

“Time”, is Already Dead , at their very best . They couple smart , honest lyrics with raw and electrifying melodies that leave a lasting impression.

We can’t wait for the new EP, “I Think It’s Time To Leave..” Meanwhile, we will pass the time by cranking the epic new single, “Time”

“Handle With Care” , From The Ghouls Is So Freaking Good…. It’s Scary!

Music should be fun , music should move you . Lowell, Massachusetts, band The Ghouls, achieve this and so much more on their epically explosive debut album, “Handle With Care” You can listen to “ Handle With Care” Here

As soon as we heard the opening track, “Pocket Of Gold from The Ghouls, our first immediate thought was “Good Lord ! , Where Has this band been our whole life?”

“Handle With Care” is the Fourth of July, and Christmas, rolled into 9 explosive gems.

2024, was a hell of a ride for The Ghouls,

In May, the young Lowell band won the esteemed Rock and Roll Rumble, the decades-old institution known as the “World Series of Boston Rock,” and come December scored Rock Artist of the Year at the Boston Music Awards, where they were also invited to perform live and nominated in the New Artist category. But this new album is no simple encore, nor a fight to live up to lofty, already-cast expectations.

It feels like The Ghouls, are just getting warmed up. “Handle With Care” is out today ( May 30th ) A week later, on June 6, they celebrate the record, the past year, and all the excesses along the way with the official release party at The Middle East in Cambridge

“Handle With Care”, has the band, ( vocalist and guitarist George Danahy, guitarist Peter Trainor; bassist Jacob Babcock; and drummer Bryce Maher, who all recently met as students at the University of Massachusetts Lowell – firing effortlessly on all cylinders.

I hope this record is universal for the listener,” Danahy admits. “I hope it is an album they choose to listen to while working out, while driving, on amazing days, and on awful days. Handle With Care reflects how young our band is in the grand scheme of things, in a positive way. There are many wildly different sounding tracks on this record, yet all of them still sound like they come from us. It all still feels cohesive.”

“Garfield” , “Hellbound” and “Reach For The Sky” ( the guitar work on “Reach For The Sky” is absolutely mind freaking blowing) were some of the stunningly crafted gems on “Handle With Care” . If we had to pick a favorite from “ Handle With Care” , it would most certainly be… “For You” We loved the drop dead perfect vocals and haunting melody that stayed with us long after the music ended.

Part of the spoils of winning the Rumble is the competition’s vaulted “prize booty,” a collection of assets that include studio time, photo shoots, radio and media publicity campaigns, and other stuff a band would kill to acquire. Nearly all the prizes afforded The Ghouls helped to shape and create Handle With Care. The band hit several studios around the region – New Alliance Audio in Somerville; 37’ Productions in Rockland; Henley Row in Stoneham; and Rare Signals and Q Division in Cambridge – all while working with esteemed producers and engineers like Ethan Dussault, Sean McLaughlin, Dan Nicklin, Brian Charles, Craig Small, and Colin Lester Fleming

Love is music , music is love….. we Freaking LOVE – “Handle With Care” from The Ghouls and we know you will too.

Temporary Circus:Act 1 From Derek Smith and tphe Cosmic Vultures Is Positively Magnificent.

Design By Derek Smith

We recently had the spectacular opportunity, to check out the new EP, “Temporary Circus: Act 1”, from Boston, singer-songwriter Derek Smith and the Cosmic Vultures.

You can listen to, “Temporary Circus:Act 1” on Spotify Here, Apple Music Here And on Bandcamp Here

The latest EP, from Derek Smith and the Vultures, “Temporary Circus: Act 1 , is a joyous musical treasure trove of brilliantly crafted musical compositions.

Derek Smith and the Cosmic Vultures’ new EP, Temporary Circus: Act 1, is a five-track collection from the prolific Boston singer-songwriter that hits the streams today, ( Friday, May 16. ) This new record arrives about a half-year from the band’s recent album Opus, and marks the start of a new creative chapter with additional acts to quickly follow.

Sonically, this is an acoustic album to me,” Smith says. “I didn’t use a full drum kit here. It feels different than Opus and that was my intention. I have people asking me why I didn’t make a direct sequel to Opus and it’s because I already did it. It’s time for a new sound.”

Where Opus was a majestic declaration of excess and grandeur, coming off more like a greatest hits compilation in its sweeping production and ambitious drive, Temporary Circus: Act 1 is something far more personal, more raw, and more organic. Intact is Smith’s penchant for melody, and the alarming ease with which he steers his sound through familiar corridors of alternative, pop-rock, indie-folk, psych, Yacht Rock, AM ‘70s gold, funk, and whatever else escapes from his creative mental asylum. The many different stylistic offerings make the EP, a melodic delight. Smith’s sound has always been jovial on the surface, with something a little darker glowing underneath.

Throughout Temporary Circus: Act 1, there is a growing unease and overwhelming sense of malaise that permeates through the five songs, and drawn together serve as a bit of a warning about what the future may hold, with carnival-like interludes and faux news reports acting as segues, similar to how we doom scroll from one app to the next to feed our serotonin needs: “Question everything. Do your research. Whatever hardship you’re going through… it’ll pass. And to hell with toxic people.”

Derek Smith and the Cosmic Vultures have crafted an EP, that flows freely in many melodic directions, while also artfully articulating the state of world . Because, it’s also a proper Derek Smith and the Cosmic Vultures album, so beneath the layers of social awareness, messages both subliminal and obvious, and lyrical wordplay wisdom, is another sparkling and celestial record that glows with Smith’s vivid storytelling acumen. He’s now officially released 73 songs since 2017, both with the Cosmic Vultures and as a solo artist, and the creative tank shows no signs of emptying.

The EP opener and title track immediately set the lyrical theme, a daydream-like composition with a propulsive thump and twinkling demeanor where a certain type of circus comes to town to whisk us away in our own cerebral slumbers. The yearning, campfire glide “Strange Life” explores feelings of self-discovery and our shared end-goal of being comfortable with who we are, despite greater forces influencing us otherwise.

Smith leans into political lanes on the poignant and straight-forward “The Puppets of Hypocrisy,” fueled by a sonic buoyancy and pub sing-along mood while hidden meanings lurk behind the lyrical phrases. The atmospheric and star-gazing “Some Girls” (Our favorite track on the EP) finds a central comfort in the strength and poise of women, with Smith casting admiration for what they provide the world and how much they deal with and are forced to endure.

And EP closer “Indie Darling” was inspired by a dream Smith had walking through Salem, Massachusetts, waking up feeling so connected to the city and feeling free from the circus that had previously dogged his mental state.

My music is a universe that I created,” Smith concludes. “If someone connects to my music, that is wonderful. But they need to use the info wisely. Use the info to help you put together whatever your opinion is. Bottom line: A famous musical artist (or hell, a local one) spreading their message is fine. But it’s NOT the end all be all. Form your own opinions. I think it’s important that everyone has a platform to express their opinion on the world… but people get obsessed with artists and then they become idols. Just be careful with that stuff. It could be your next Temporary Circus.”

We were absolutely captivated by “Temporary Circus: Act 1 “ from Derek Smith and the Cosmic Vultures, it is a must listen.

Billy Dodge Moody Releases Poetically Perfect New Single, “Meaning To Disaster”

First new music from the alt-Americana artist since 2022’s ‘Condition’ album

We recently had the distinct honor of checking out the brilliantly beautiful new single , “Meaning To Disaster “, from Boston, alt-Americana singer-songwriter, Billy Dodge Moody . You can listen to “Meaning To Disaster” Here

We were immediately taken by the gorgeous and poignant melody that is beautifully presented with “Meaning To Disaster “

Billy Dodge Moody , takes the experience of a sudden tragic loss and is able to channel all of the emotions associated with that loss and craft his new single, a lush and sweeping ballad of cinematic indie folk-pop titled “Meaning to Disaster,” which hits the streams today (Friday, May 2.)

An expansive track that swirls around the heartfelt creative winds of Americana and pop-rock, offering a gorgeous type of grandeur that can only be revealed through a personal reflection, “Meaning to Disaster” is the first new music from Moody since his 2022 album Condition. It sets a dramatic tone for his forthcoming summer EP, Ephemera, the first in a series of EPs that will combine to form his next album, thematically centering around navigating chaos and finding clarity in life.

Taking a theme of tragedy and looking back on both a life cut short and one privileged to carry on, Moody first penned the track back in 2021, more than 20 years after his friend’s passing from an unexpected heart attack. Like an old wound needing time to heal and a desire to create something beautiful out of pain, Moody was deliberate in how – and when – he wanted to bring the touching composition to listeners.

Courtesy Of The Artist

It’s about the shock and confusion that comes with losing someone so young, and how that moment made me confront the brevity, chaos, and randomness of life,” Moody says. “The song grapples with the idea that life itself is inherently chaotic, and our purpose is to find a way to make sense of why we’re here – giving it some sense of purpose in the very short time we have.”

“Meaning To Disaster” by Billy Dodge Moody , reminds us why music is so important for our mind , body and soul. Music is a powerful vehicle and we are witnessing the power, first hand on “Meaning To Disaster”

Moody took “Meaning to Disaster” to his trusted longtime producer, Brian Charles, who the artist worked with previously at Zippah Recording. After a 2021 fire displaced the Brighton studio, Moody and Charles recorded the track over the course of three years, first at Guilford Sound in Guilford, Vermont, with stops along the way at Mad Oak in Allston and The Record Co. in Boston,  before completing it at Charles’ freshly-minted Rare Signals in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Charles mixed and mastered the track, on which Moody performs vocals and guitar alongside Jon Chapman on drums, Sam Bouve on bass, and Tyler Simko on keyboards. Additional vocals were provided by Hannah Foxman.

“Meaning To Disaster “ from Billy Dodge Moody , is about to become a song you can’t live without, you just don’t know it yet .

“All I’ve Got” From Haven West Veraguas, Is Simply Brilliant

We recently had the distinct privilege to check out the new single, “All I’ve Got “ , from rising singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Haven West Veraguas. You can listen to “All I’ve Got” on Spotify Here , Apple Music Here

“All I’ve Got” from Haven West Veraguas, is both a well crafted authentic truth as well as a melodic triumph.

The lyrics that are woven within “All I’ve Got”,feel timely and extremely relevant.

Haven, who is from Massachusetts, but currently resides in London, is a an artist in the truest sense of the word as he explores many musical styles with his music .

Haven, shares :

I wrote “All I’ve Got” to capture the bittersweet sentiment of
struggling to help the people closest to you even when you don’t have
a lot to give. At the same time, it embodies the sensation of seeing
the world crumble around your little bubble, cursing as everyone
around you appears to go through hell while you’re seemingly
unscathed.

The beautiful lyrics only tell half the story with, “All I’ve Got” The melody and tone of the song is positively stunning. We felt Beatles vibes with a hint of Elliot Smith. The song is a beautiful testament to the next level of musicianship of the very talented Haven West Veraguas

“All I’ve Got”, is not a long song in length ( coming in at just one minute) However, what you get within that minute is a glorious musical experience.

Go to your favorite music listening spot and get lost in the beauty of “All I’ve Got” from Haven West Veraguas.

The beautifully crafted and orchestrated tracks are so wonderfully put together that they could thrive in any musical period.

Sherman understands that the destination suggested in the EP title is wherever we may be – or need to be – in order to truly live in the moment, be present, and develop the human connection that dissipates more with each day.

These songs are all about finding the strength to persevere and move towards love and kindness, even when there is loss,” Sherman says. “I would love listeners to feel that joy and sadness will always be present in our lives and that we can learn to embrace both and persevere.

Nowhere But Here, produced by Ken Field and recorded with Robin Lane providing harmony vocals, Sherman’s creative vision crystallizes. Led by last fall’s lived-in and lovelorn “Pure As Yours” and sweeping February single “Gratitude,” the EP is completed by a pair of new tracks in “How Hard I Tried,” which got the music video treatment , just ahead of the EP release;( you can watch the video which was directed and edited by Carissa Johnson below and “Torn And Tattered.” The result is a songwriter fully comfortable in his own skin, and the follow-up to 2021 album Triangle Sky finds him exploring some new sonic territory that feels like a natural progression of his songwriting.

Every song on, “Nowhere But Here “ feels cinematic by nature in that they all draw you in instantly and have you on the edge of your seat. We felt a treasure trove of emotions with each song, which made for a one-of-a-kind music experience.

In addition to the production from Field, Nowhere But Here was recorded and mixed by Jon Evans at Brick Hill Studio in Orleans, MA; and mastered by Mark Alan Miller. It represents a bit of a new chapter for Sherman, who self-releases the EP under his own Haddon Road Music. It’s indebted to his past work, but also clears a new path forward as his artist studio in Cambridge provides the backdrop for his various creative passions, from writing and playing music to painting to graphic design to running a successful voice lessons business for the past 12 years.

Across its four tracks, Sherman provides vocals and acoustic guitar and Lane gives an inspired harmony vocal performance. To execute the full vision Sherman has for the EP, he also enlisted Field (string arrangement); Jon Evans (bass, lap steel, percussion), Mark Usher (guitar); Matthew Hutchinson (piano, organ); Matthias Bossi (drums); Dorothea Samaha (violin); and Eve Samaha (cello) to create the ethereal and expansive sound that emerges poignantly from the speakers.

Nowhere But Here” by Adam Sherman, is an absolute “must-listen”

Cold Expectations Get To The Heart Of The Matter, With New Single, “Our Hearts Need Electricity “

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out the new single , “Our Hearts Need Electricity “, from Boston, based indie-rock power trio, Cold Expectations, you can listen to, “Our Hearts Need Electricity “ on Spotify, Here, Apple Music, Here and on Bandcamp, Here

With Valentines Day, just a few days passed and February, being National Heart Month, the new single , “Our Hearts Need Electricity” arrives at the perfect time .

Written from a hospital bed where band member Steve Prygoda was diagnosed with advanced heart failure requiring an immediate pacemaker implant to keep his heart beating, the song percolates with a pulsating insistence that will compel you to get on up and rock out! We were absolutely enthralled with the jangle indie rock greatness of Cold Expectations, and their beautifully crafted new single, “Our Hearts Need Electricity”

Cold Expectations were participants in the 2024 Rock and Roll Rumble, and their recent full-length album, STATIC REACTIONS (Red on Red Records), was a CMJ radio favorite on countless college radio stations.  Described as “dark jangle pop” and “hauntingly beautiful”, the band has drawn comparisons to Mission Of Burma, X, and New Order, amongst others.  With an indie rock character that touches on power pop elements of melody and harmony, the vocal interplay between Steve and bassist/vocalist, JoEllen Saunders, and the rock-solid back beat of drummer Mike Demers, gives Cold Expectations their own unique and authentic sound.

Not only is is “Our Hearts Need Electricity “ the perfect song to get your rock and roll heart pumping, it also carries an important message.

With the release of “Our Hearts Need Electricity”, the band is bringing awareness to the warning signs that your heart may be in trouble and need “more electricity” – which is the impulse that tells your heart to beat.  Shortness of breath, low energy, feeling dizzy or tired can all be signs of Heart Failure or the onset of a cardiovascular episode.  You might think it’s normal to feel these things on occasion, but it could be your body telling you it’s something more serious.  If not for talking to his doctor, Steve’s heart would have stopped beating without notice

Steve has this to say about the new single: “We are excited to put this track out into the world with our pals at The Sound Cove; this song was a truly collaborative effort with all three of us pushing the song to its limits, striving to make it as intense and bracing as possible, to really crush it. Thanks to producer Matt Alexander’s work behind the board, we really feel it was mission accomplished; this is one of the strongest tracks we’ve ever done.”

So go find your favorite listening spot, and get lost in the magical indie rock experience of “Our Hearts Need Electricity “ , from Cold Expectations.

The music video, was filmed at the historic Bellforge Arts Center in Massachusetts.

Spear and longtime collaborator Will Hall shot “The Number One Song In Heaven” video at Bellforge Arts Center in Medfield, the historic site of the former Medfield State Hospital that is now a blossoming creative arts hub.

My two aesthetic touchstones for that were the black and white scenes from the Powell & Pressburger movie A Matter of Life And Death, and the bathtub Mary statues you see in suburban homes throughout the commonwealth,” Spear says with a laugh. “I wanted something both otherworldly and old, and I think the weathered bricks and the pastoral shots of cloudy skies and open fields captured that feeling!”

Adios Fatso, Showcase Stunningly Brilliant Sound With Latest Single, “WTF”

We recently got the distinct honor to check out the latest single, “WTF” from Boston, Massachusetts, band Adios Fatso. You can listen to “WTF” Here.

Full disclosure, ( as always on The Whole Kameese) , we had the heard the name, Adios Fatso, but up until a few days ago we had never heard any of their music . ( We want to publicly apologize to the band , we are sorry it took us so long to discover the incredible punk rock goodness of Adios Fatso)

Adios Fatso , who spent 2024, promoting their  No Cap album, a dope vinyl release, and also got a couple of shows under their belt , they are off to a fast start in 2025, with their latest single , “WTF”

We were absolutely enthralled with “WTF”, Adios Fatso , is a band who has one of the most unique sounds we’ve heard . There is definitely a punk sounding influence in their sound (Descendents,Ramones) but there is also this magnificent blues tone in “WTF” that gives it such an amazing added dimension. We also loved the thoughtful guitar work on “WTF”– absolutely freaking brilliant.

WTF dives headfirst into the chaos of “crab mentality,” delivering razor-sharp lyrics rooted in real-life scenarios and the band’s signature unfiltered edge.

Adios Fatso, are a well oiled group of next level musicians, who have an amazing sound and vibe, and this shines brightly on “WTF”

Speaking of Descendents , “WTF”, was Mixed by Andrew Berlin (Descendents, Teenage Bottlerocket, Rise Against) and mastered by Jason Livermore (NOFX, Propagandhi, Lagwagon) at The legendary Blasting Room in Fort Collins, CO.

Adios Fatso, has two shows , coming up in the Massachusetts area , details below

Art design by Tom Martin

We recently had the excellent opportunity to check out the new single “Holy,Holy” from Worcester, Massachusetts, alternative duo , Sunday Junkie. You can listen to “Holy,Holy” Here

“Holy,Holy”, from Sunday Junkie , is the kind of song that effortlessly finds it’s way into your soul and stay with you long after the music has faded.

Holy, Holy” is the third offering from the duo of multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Tom Martin and drummer and percussionist Shawn Pelkey, following the fall release of a pair of striking debut singles in “Vultures” and “Haunted Head.”

Each track will be featured on Sunday Junkie’s forthcoming debut album, due out sometime later this year. But before an overarching storyline emerges, these inaugural Sunday Junkie singles each strike a specific mood. As “Holy, Holy” twists and crawls through a dramatic atmosphere of tension, the duo quickly positions itself as a band with a lot to say and seemingly not a lot of time to say it.

Sunday Junkie, formed last year from the ashes of scene spark plug Not Bad Not Well,

I had issues with drinking in the past, and the lyrics on ‘Holy, Holy’ pretty heavily revolve around using alcohol as a means of self-medicating and ignoring a larger, underlying issue,” Martin adds. “It can be pretty insidious when it seems to provide relief, but the toll it’s taking is more evident to those around you and they just hope you can eventually see it too. The line ‘Honey on our tongues / Sucking on the rind’ is more of a reference to having everything at your fingertips, not realizing it, and choosing to throw it away instead.”

Familiar but deeply unique at the same time , Sunday Junkie have molded sonic and melodic tones to absolute perfection.

There is this real cinematic tone on “Holy,Holy”, that that really makes the track stand out . Martin and Pelkey have undeniable musical synergy that is front and center on “Holy, Holy”

Close your eyes and open your soul to the mystical soul of “Holy,Holy”

The Will Call Deliver A New Record “Amnesia” That is Simply Unforgettable

We recently had the stellar opportunity to check out the new record, “Amnesia” , from Western Massachusetts, rock band , The Will Call. You can listen to “Amnesia” on Spotify Here, Apple Music Here .

The Will Call, deliver 9 well crafted gems on “Amnesia “ The band has a indie-rock sound that has a touch of alt country that really makes the band stand out .

The Will Call ( Monte Arnstam, drums and percussion. Marc Seedorf , bass and keys. Andrew Rush guitar and vocals) are a tight musical outfit, that display next level musicianship throughout, “Amnesia”

You really feel the energy from “Amnesia “ immediately with the driving opening track ,”Green Mountain Woman “, we love the alt -country- rock feel that had us moving almost instantly.

The Will Call, effortlessly deliver high quality and memorable tunes with the melodic and sonically pleasing “The Scrawl” ( the opening drum beat is freaking epic ) .

One thing that really stands out on “Amnesia”, from The Will Call, is the poetic brilliance that exists within the lyrics that were perfectly woven within the melodies . We found ourselves really digging into the lyrics on every track.

The title track, “Amnesia” is a stunning haunting musical composition that is beautifully constructed with a curious tone that lurks mysteriously throughout the track.

We heard influences of bands , such as Dinosaur Jr. and The Pixies . However , The Will Call have a style and vibe that honors their influences but it also shines the light on a fresh and original sound that is all their own

“Amnesia” , is the fourth album from The Will Call. The record was recorded at Greenfield’s 1357 Recording Studio.

We especially loved the closing track, “Song For Vincent Musetto” which of course is in reference to Vincent Musetto, who was an American newspaper editor  and film critic for the New York Post . Musetto, is perhaps best know for his headline “Headless body in topless bar” , which is brilliantly mentioned in the song .

So go and find your favorite music listening spot and become one with the musical goodness of “Amnesia”, from The Will Call.

Joshua David Thayer Continues To Amaze With Release Of New Single “Beginning To See The Dark” with Acoustic B-Side “Tempest”

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check the new single, “Beginning To See The Dark” from singer-songwriter Joshua David Thayer. Including with the new single is an acoustic version of “Tempest” — which is the lead track on It Will Still Keep Feeling Rough.

You can listen to the two songs on Spotify Here, Apple Music Here and on Bandcamp Here.

You can also check out the video for “Beginning To See The Dark” below

We were beyond excited to get new music from Joshua David Thayer, especially since we are still basking in the glow of his stellar debut album,  “It Will Still Keep Feeling Rough”.

“Beginning To See The Dark”, an outtake from the sessions that shaped the critically acclaimed record. The single is accompanied by “Tempest (Acoustic),” a full acoustic production of the album’s lead track, reimagined with layered textures of acoustic guitars, banjo, slide guitar, and upright bass. This release is particularly meaningful, as it coincides with Thayer’s birthday and marks one year since he debuted his first solo material with the release of “Bird Children” on January 17, 2024.

We were immediately drawn to the haunting and beautifully crafted “Beginning To See The Dark”, the theme of uncertainty that lingers overs the track quietly settles in your soul giving room for solitary reflection.

Beginning To See The Dark” unfolds slowly with a hushed lilting intensity, building subtly until drums enter in the final third, giving way to a slinky and mesmerizing musical ending. The lyrics reflect on themes of struggle and the inevitability of uncertainty, with the refrain, “Now I’m beginning to see the dark in all things,” capturing Thayer’s reflective perspective and voice.

Courtesy Of The Artist

This song came together in an unexpected way, early in the sessions for the album, but never quite fit into the sequence of the record,” says Thayer. “I heard the slide part in my head, rushed out to buy one, watched a video on how to play slide, and recorded the part immediately. It’s a piece that’s all about feeling—something that came through naturally in the moment.”

The brilliant acoustic b-side of “Tempest” offers a vibrant reinterpretation of the lead track of It Will Still Keep Feeling Rough.Far from stripped down, this version delivers a rich, full acoustic production that features intricate layers of acoustic guitars, banjo, slide guitar, and upright bass, creating a sound that is both organic and resonant.  It is also a treat when an artist can add another dimension to a track, Thayer, has definitely done this with “Tempest”

The track’s themes of persistence and transformation remain central, while the new arrangement brings a fresh and dynamic energy.

Both tracks were written, performed, recorded, and mixed by Joshua David Thayer at Brave Tiger in Medford, MA, and mastered by Mark Alan Miller at Radio Valkyrie in Holyoke, MA.

Joshua David Thayer is an artist who’s music and message needs to be heard . Do yourself a favor and check out “Beginning To See The Dark” and the acoustic B-Side of “Tempest” You will be glad you did.

Joshua David Thayer Absolutely Shines With Debut Solo Album “It Will Still Keep Feeling Rough”

We recently had the opportunity to check out the debut solo record “ It Will Still Keep Feeling Rough” via Brave Tiger Records, from Boston based singer-songwriter Joshua David Thayer.

You can listen to “It Will Still Keep Feeling Rough” on Spotify Here, Apple Music Here and on Bandcamp Here

We were instantly captivated to the debut solo album “It Will Still Keep Feeling Rough” from singer-songwriter Joshua David Thayer. Thayer is a skilled storyteller that has a one of a kind voice that he uses to artfully tell amazing stories throughout “It Will Still Keep Feeling Rough”

Courtesy Of Artist

On the opening track “Tempest”, which has a brilliant folk rock feel, we were really drawn in by the versatility and tone of Joshua David Thayer’s voice .

After decades of playing bass and collaborating with other artists, Joshua David Thayer stepped into solo work for the first time to explore themes of loss, resilience, and transformation. The project evolved out of spontaneous home recordings and became a way of processing recent events in his life, including the passing of his father.

The album combines indie rock, alterna-folk, and ambient influences, with inspiration drawn from Rick Rubin’s The Creative Act and the creative paths of other artists that Joshua David Thayer admires.

Alongside contributions from Brooklyn-based co-producer Bradford Swanson, drummer Jason Smith, engineer Monte Arnstam, mixer Mark Alan Miller, and mastering by Jonathan Wyner, Joshua shares “this album has been a unique journey into new artistic territory for me.“

Joshua David Thayer has played in the past with Fancy Trash, Love Minus Zero, Hadley Transfer Station, and more. He also performed with artists such as Mark Mulcahy, TW Walsh, Dennis Crommett, Joshua Crane, and Treefort and shared stages with 4 Non Blondes, Juliana Hatfield, The Jayhawks, Langhorne Slim, DeVotchKa, and many more.

“It Will Still Keep Feeling Rough” is a musical treasure trove filled with well crafted songs that touch both the heart and soul.

The subtle groove on “Punch, Crumble And Crawl” really makes the track stand out.

The beautiful,”Peaceful Passing“ is a beautiful moving musical composition with a heartfelt message.

From top to bottom “It Will Still Keep Feeling Rough” is 48 minutes of enjoyable and thoughtful musical compositions. If we had to choose a favorite track (which is so hard to do) it would without question be “Say What You Mean”. This track in our opinion is Joshua David Thayer at his absolute best. ”Say What You Mean” is a unique and melodic gem that has a great story and flawless vocals.

Do your music loving heart a favor and check out “It Will Still Keep Feeling Rough” from Joshua David Thayer.

Diablogato Deliver Epic And Mind Blowing New EP “Snake Oil Salvation “

CD release arrives ahead of November parties in Boston and Providence

We had the amazing opportunity to check out the new EP “Snake Oil Salvation “ from Boston band Diablogato, via Rum Bar Records. You can listen to “Snake Oil Salvation “ on Spotify Here and Bandcamp Here

It is crystal clear from the first note , that “Snake Oil Salvation, from Diablogato , is far more than just an EP but an epic sound blistering experience that you simply can’t miss .

With the video single “Lost Highway” and fellow visual and 2022 standout “Jet Black Night” setting the tone, Snake Oil Salvation is Diabogato’s darkest and grittiest record yet, taking the quartet’s weathered brand of rock and roll and filtering it through the strain and hostility of 2024’s cracked lens. The follow-up to 2019’s Old Scratch finds each member of the veteran band – vocalist and guitarist Drew Indingaro; guitarist and backing vocalist Charlie MacSteven; drummer Jesse Von Kenmore; and upright bassist Johnny Custom – coming out on the other side of what was a batshit insane five prior years with fresh battle scars and new tales to tell.

The opening track “Heaven’s Gate” is a grade A rock masterpiece. The pristine soaring vocals hit your soul like the Fourth of July and never leaves.

“Snake Oil Salvation is a reflection of the world we’re living in,” says Indingaro. “The idea of snake oil – the slick talkers, the cons, the false promises – felt like the perfect metaphor for everything we’re trying to say. And salvation? Well, that’s what everyone’s chasing, right? But maybe it’s all smoke and mirrors. We’re mixing the grit with the hope, the lies with the redemption. It’s got a bit of that old-school hustler vibe, with a modern kick in the teeth.”

Diablogato are like a group of well trained rock soldiers as they effortlessly deliver solid soon to be classics. We loved the cadence and tempo of Wandering Hearts” …. And did we mention the bass line and the incredible guitar work? Holy Smokes!

The track that really stood out to us is “July 1969” in a treasure trove of remarkable songs, “July 1969 “ is without a doubt the crown jewel. You really get to hear and feel the incredible energy of Diablogato, and it’s absolutely stunning.

The EP was recorded by Shawn Reilly at PunchDance Studios in Waltham, MA; mixed by Duggan at Blue Banshee Studios in Brewster, MA; and mastered by Simon Francis (except for “Jet Black Night” and “Lost Highway,” mixed by Shawn Reilly and mastered by Nick Z at New Alliance East in Cambridge, MA.)

A pair of regional release parties help celebrate: November 23 at Faces Brewing in Malden and November 29 at The Parlour in Providence

Derek Smith And The Cosmic Vultures Curate A Stunningly Beautiful Collection Of Musical Perfection With New Album “Opus”

Design by Derek Smith

We recently had the privilege to check out the brand new album “Opus” from Boston rock band Derek Smith And The Cosmic Vultures

You can bask in the majestic glow of “Opus” on Spotify Here Apple Music Here

Opus” from Derek Smith And The Cosmic Vultures is a beautifully woven musical tapestry that shows off the many sides of a band who always artfully raises the creative bar on every thing they do.

We love that “Opus” does not box itself in a stylistic corner, rather it finds its way to the center of the room and shows all of its beautiful colors.

This album is a noteworthy moment in my life,” Smith admits. “It’s a collection of art that I am putting on display in my own personal art studio. Each chapter brings a new feeling. A cosmic play of dark and light. It’s the sky I always wanted to paint. It’s a shrouded, cynical page from the vault in my mind. A tiresome reflection of life and death. When you put these colors together, you get Opus.”

So far, listeners have been treated to two tracks from the record, both released this year: July’s enchanting spark plug single “Tomorrow Morning,” ( an absolute musical gem) with its stirring cocktail of glam, psych, and soft rock and ready-made ambition that allowed it to hit Number 4 on the global Radio Indie Alliance charts and caught the attention of WBUR, Boston’s NPR, which previewed Opus in its 2024 Fall Album Guide as a record not to be missed; and September’s “Songbird,” a melodically lush and sonically dense composition (peaking at Number 16 on RIA) that suggested Derek Smith and the Cosmic Vultures were leaning into a more expansive musical alchemy. Remarkably, a trio of singles — the majestic “White Spade Symphony”; the celestial alt-rock hypnosis of “Waiting”; and the gritty and anthemic “Black Angel” — did not make the Opus cut.

The songs that made the cut for “Opus” cover a wide range on the musical spectrum but, that is what makes them so special. We were immediately captivated with “No Cigarettes” Smith takes a cheeky and comical look at his admittedly boring life of no drinking or smoking. The line “No Happy Hour, For Me” stayed with us long as the music ended ( Just ask the people in aisle 3 in Market Basket) “So Far Gone “ is a mesmerizing tune that seems to flow right of the speakers . We definitely hit repeat many times with this one .

Smith is effusive with his praise for his bandmates, especially his longtime partner-in-crime Strakus: “Michael’s intricate guitar work weaves melodic threads that elevate each track, showcasing his ability to blend technical prowess with emotional depth. And he’s quick to note the rhythm section: Steve’s rhythmic bass lines provide a solid foundation, enriching the band’s sound with groove and harmony, while Dalton’s dynamic drumming drives the energy of the music, creating an infectious pulse that resonates with listeners.”

Opus was mixed by Erik von Geldern, Don Schweihofer, and Monty Dale; mastered by von Geldern, Schweihofer, and David Locke; and engineered by a cast that includes von Geldern, Schweihofer, Dale, David Minehan, and Jonathan Chesbro. “The countless hours that were put in by Erik von Geldern and Don Schweihofer at Berlin Audio Productions cannot be understated,” Smith notes. “These guys did such an amazing job. Buzz worthy News : Bumble Bee Radio Is Hosting First Ever Live Show Presenting Count Zero’s Album Release Party November 8th At Sonia In Cambridge And Celebrating Its 5th Anniversary In April 2025

Kristen Eck’s indie radio station presents Count Zero’s record release with Lovina Falls and Singer Mali at Sonia in Cambridge on Friday, November 8th

Ok , We realize that we have probably just wrote the longest headline in the history of the Whole Kameese but, it’s totally worth it.

BumbleBee Radio launched in 2020 as a pandemic project for founder and live host Kristen Eck, it quickly became a way for New England indie and alternative rock bands to get played on air, at any and all hours of the day, alongside more well-known and global acts. Now as the Beverly-based streaming radio station approaches its fifth anniversary in the spring, Eck is keeping its past, present, and future in mind.

Photo

But where the past involves looking back at how BumbleBee has evolved since the lockdown days, catering to a hungry audience eager to find a new alternative to the dusty old FM dial, and the future allows Eck to beam with pride over reaching the five-year milestone in the Boston area’s increasingly competitive digital radio landscape, it’s perhaps the present that is most exciting.

Kicking off a string of celebrations that extend into the spring, BumbleBee Radio first dips into the live show scene on November 8, presenting Count Zero’s Thought So album release party – the theatrical Boston art-rock band’s first new record in 13 years – at Sonia in Cambridge, the former location of T.T. The Bear’s Place. Joining Count Zero on the bill are two BumbleBee Radio mainstays in Lovina Falls, the elegant baroque-pop project from Mistle Thrush’s Valerie Forgione, and Singer Mali of avant-rock mainstays Jaggery.

“I am beyond excited to be working with these three exceptionally talented and creative artists,” says Eck, who spends her days as the WBZ News Radio helicopter reporter. “I don’t believe in doing anything small. I wanted our first official live event to be a musical tour-de-force. So attendees can expect grand, thought-provoking music in a dramatic setting – and hopefully a renewed sense of community in drawing old-school fans of Count Zero, Think Tree, Mistle Thrush, and Jaggery and giving them a night of some new music to remember.”

Not only has the Sonia show brought Eck’s passion for music full circle, but her live BumbleBee Brunch, airing every Friday from 10 a.m. to noon, also connects to her Cape Cod past, as WKKL simulcasts the show live each week.

We love everything about BumbleBee Radio and the amazing work that Kristen Eck does for the music community, and we can’t wait for the show at Sonia and to celebrate BumbleBee’s 5th anniversary in 2025

Be Sure to check out the Count Zero Thought So”record release party , November 8th at Sonia in Cambridge with Lovina Falls and singer Mali. You can get tickets Here and Bee sure to check out BumbleBee Radio Here

Girl With A Hawk Continue To Amaze With Beautiful New Single And Message “Share It All”

Credit- Nicole Anguish

We recently had the delightful opportunity to check out the new single “Share It All” from Boston band Girl With A Hawk. You can listen to “Share It All” on Spotify Here, Apple Music Here and on Bandcamp Here

Girl With A Hawk , knows no creative or musical bounds. The band artfully and creatively, consistently add another layer of musical greatness to their already treasure trove of musical wonderment and… “Share It All” is no exception.

Fresh off the release of call-to-action folk song “#VOTE (Rock The Boat)”, the Boston rock band led by Linda Viens is set to release new single “Share It All” today, (Friday, October 25) via Rum Bar Records, with the colorful and engaging Joan Hathaway-directed lyric video to follow a few days later. The Americana-leaning “Share It All” was produced and engineered by Pete Weiss, and the single artwork was created and designed by Nicole Anguish of Daykamp Creative.

Those are just some of the names – Hathaway, Weiss, Anguish, and Rum Bar’s Lou Mansdorf – that are part of Girl with a Hawk’s expansive creative orbit. And as “Share It All” revels in a common sense of joy and euphoria by looking at ourselves as one collective unit, acknowledging the successes and triumphs of others to aid a shared cause, it’s a sentiment worth exploring as our country heads to further division on the eve of November’s historic presidential election.

“‘Share it All’ is about a way of looking at the world through the lens of our oneness, not our differences,” says Viens. “It draws from the Stoic concept of Sympatheia; that we must look after one another because we are all one, part of an interconnected cosmos. We are cut from the same human cloth, and breathe and think and live the same, no matter what superficial differences may appear to exist.”

Photo – Kelly Davidson

Viens first penned “Share It All” during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, and, as she often does, took philosophical inspiration from Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, who between 171–175 CE wrote: “Meditate often on the interconnectedness and mutual interdependence of all things in the universe.” At a time when family, friends, and colleagues were separated, forced to socially distance and isolate to curb the spread of the viral disease, the Boston music scene veteran was drawn to Aurelius’ idea that “understanding how we are all connected and dependent on each other encourages us to see past our differences, and help one another, even in small daily kindnesses. Seeing each other as ‘other’ emboldens alienation.”

The deepness of care that is ever present in the writings of Linda Viens and in the music of Girl With A Hawk is refreshing however, more importantly it gives us great hope that compassion still exists, and that is always a good thing .

Girl with a Hawk is:

Linda Viens: Lead vocals, guitars

Richard Lamphear: Keys, backing vocals

Daniel Coughlin: Guitars, backing vocals

Dan Bernfeld: Bass, backing vocals

Nancy Delaney: Drums, backing vocals

Kit Orion Delivers A Gorgeous Symphony Of Sound With Debut Album “Bottle Grin”

Listening and video release party set for October 24 at Capitol Theatre in Arlington

Photo and design credit: Sue O’Brien and Kit Orion

We recently had the glorious opportunity to check out the new electronic-pop album “Bottle Grin” from Kit Orion. The musical genius behind Kit Orion, is Worcester native and Cambridge based songwriter, producer and DJ Caitlyn O’Brien . You can listen to “Bottle Grin” Here

Our music loving heart was instantly filled with great joy , upon our first listen of Kit Orion’s euphoric new electronic-pop album Bottle Grin.

Kit Orion’s debut album opens a portal to perseverance and self-confidence, as the Worcester native grapples with bouts of self-doubt, a fixation on perfection, and personal trauma that was impacting her mental health. The result of this inner and outer journey plays out in vivid color across glossy beats and kaleidoscopic electro-pop.

“Bottle Grin” from Kit Orion unfolds like a page turning best selling novel with beautiful mind bending melodies, we were absolutely enthralled .

This album feels like a series of sonic journal entries to me,” O’Brien says. “A lot of the lyrics in this album are a response to complicated grief. During the time I was writing these songs, I experienced abundant loss. I lost multiple pillars in my life, one after another over a short time. I was not able to have the space to grieve each person before another one was gone, so writing these songs was an acknowledgment of my people, their existence and their absence as a form of catharsis.”

What we love most about “Bottle Grin” is the melodic and cinematic flow of the music .O’brein’s voice is a stunning and powerful instrument that delightfully shines and soars through out the 13 well crafted tracks on “Bottle Grin”

To peek inside Bottle Grin, past the shiny beats and glossy exterior of kaleidoscopic electro-pop, and past an emotional curtain that O’Brien may have once guarded with her life, is to not only understand the Worcester native’s creative headspace over the past two years, but to relate to it on a personal leve

From the kinetic strobe light mood of lead single “Like Honey” to the theatrical indie-pop confessions of the album closing title track, O’Brien weaves coming-of-age tales with delicate precision and a dream-like wonder. Select interludes, spliced-up samples from her personal past, pulled from home videos, take us back to her childhood, allowing a glimpse of the innocence and confidence she, like most of us, have lost along the way through adulthood.

‘Get Grounded’ was written as a letter to myself, as I was experiencing depression, so it was difficult to write,” O’Brien reveals. “But sitting with my younger self, and looking back to give her some hope, helped me to remember to be kind to my current self, because my younger self is still there and that joy can be found even in difficult times.” Last year, O’Brien submitted ”Get Grounded” to Waveforms: A Multimedia Art Event at The Museum of Science in Boston, where she redesigned the song into spatial audio with the MIT Spatial Audio Lab. The day after Bottle Grin’s release, on October 25, O’Brien will return to Waveforms, taking part in the MIT Spatial Sound Lab Futures of Listening multimedia art occurrence at Midway Artist Studios in Fort Point.

Each one of these songs was written as a response to a prompt, which also acted as a vessel for meditating on personal grief and trauma in real time,” O’Brien says. “I chose each one of these songs for the record because it felt like an accurate patchwork quilt of vibes for what was going on for me at the time that I was writing these songs.” Beyond her own songwriting, and providing vocals, synths, keys, samples, and drum programming, Bottle Grin was ultimately a collaborative affair. O’Brien wrote and produced the tracks, with recording, co-production, and additional engineering by Evan Murphy at Ombic Sound in Worcester, Massachusetts, and Big Nice Studio in Lincoln, Rhode Island. Mixing and mastering was done by Bradford Krieger at Big Nice Studio.

More traditional live performances are also on the calendar, as Kit Orion plays Cambridge’s Lizard Lounge after the album drop: for the Bottle Grin afterparty on November 7 with Justice Cow and Baker Thomas Band

Performing with Justice Cow is especially poignant, as it’s the project of Jessica Kion, who not only provided bass guitar on Bottle Grin and directed and edited the “Like Honey” music video, but led a songwriting club during the pandemic that helped plant the seeds for the tracks that appear on the record. Kion now performs in the Kit Orion live band, with Dutch TulipsMatt Freake on synths, drums, and percussion.

In addition to Kion, the album features a wealth of contributions: Chris Barrett on trumpet; Kyle Harris on drums; Ben Levin on electric guitar; Laurence Scudder on viola; and Samuel Taber on piano and Rhodes and Hammond organs. Additional vocals and vocal samples are provided by the aforementioned Kion, Levin, and Murphy, plus a range of family members that reinforce the personal nature of the music contained within: James O’Brien, Mason O’Brien, Sue O’Brien and Richard O’Brien Jr.

We highly recommend finding your favorite music listening spot, and getting lost in the beauty of “Bottle Grin” from Kit Orion

Looking Glass War Drops Memorable Groove With New Single “Adamantine Chain Gang”

As soon as we heard the new single “Adamantine Chain Gangfrom Boston based post-punk band Looking Glass War we were over taken by the mesmerizing groove that the band has tastefully cooked up on the their latest single, and we absolutely love it. You can listen to “Adamantine Chain Gang “ on Spotify Here, Apple Music Here and on Bandcamp Here

The new single, is from from their forthcoming EP, “Saints of the Lost and Found”

Photo Coleman Rogers Photography

Adamantine has a darker feel to it, a bit more ominous than the earlier releases this year. We decided to release this one close to Halloween due to it sounding a bit spookier than the rest of the songs we recorded this year” says drummer Tony Porter.

This is actually one of our older songs” reports Bassist, Mike Ackley.  “Pete and I wrote the music for an earlier project but it was only when Looking Glass War got started and Glenn added his lyrics and vocal melody that the song really took shape”. Zeigler adds – “It never worked though and once we got together with Glenn and Tony and Glenn added his vocal melody along with Tony’s drumming, it really came to life and became the tune it is today.  It’s a good process!”.

Vocalist Goddam Glenn adds,  “Lyrically, this is my rock adaptation of Milton’s “Paradise Lost” when Lucifer gets booted from Heaven. That’s what the “adamantine chains” refer to. Those adamantine chains were basically wrapped around Satan to keep him strapped into Hell. Like some kind of infernal ankle monitor. The line “I’m not counting all the stars I crossed tonight” describes a falling star seeing all the other stars on his way down. And the line “It’s really not so bad once you get past the flames…”? It becomes pretty obvious what’s happening here. Maybe the song will set off an all new “Satanic Panic” for Gen Z. How’s that for spooky season?”

Rhythmically and melodically awash in musical greatness, “Adamantine Chain Gang” is a song and Looking Glass War are a band that reminds us why we love music so much.

The Brother Stereo Release Silver Screen Worthy New Single “The Ballad Of The Washed Up (and Seemingly Forgotten)

Artwork Credit-Emily Joy Ashman

We recently had the opportunity to check out the new single “The Ballad Of The Washed Up(and Seemingly Forgotten) from Massachusetts alternative rock band, The Brother Stereo. You can listen to The Ballad Of The Washed Up (and Seemingly Forgotten) on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here and on Bandcamp Here

There is something very organic and authentic about the new single “The Ballad Of The Washed Up ( and Seemingly Forgotten) from The Brother Stereo that makes the song so appealing. The message that the song tells about the struggles and pitfalls of those who struggle in Hollywood is a bit ironic. Because, “The Ballad Of The Washed Up (and Seemingly Forgotten) is a song that deserves its place on the silver screen.

The Ballad of the Washed Up (and Seemingly Forgotten),” marks the third effort from the Massachusetts alternative rock band, led by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Michael Robert Kelly, the brother of longtime Dropkick Murphys drummer Matt Kelly, and the Boston punk band’s substitute touring bass, banjo, and mandolin player, following punchy spring debut “After The Rain” and summer’s aching “Time in History.”

An upbeat tune for downtrodden times, “The Ballad of the Washed Up (and Seemingly Forgotten)” continues to expand The Brother Stereo’s expansive sonic landscape, building upon a foundation of indie, psychedelia, post-Britpop, and guitar-driven space rock, but also taking the sound to unexpected places. It comes across as oddly timeless, a notion at playful odds with its storyline.

It’s about being at the top of your game and being a human under a lot of pressure,” Kelly says. “It’s about the superficiality of the people you meet, keeping up the facade of fame in the eyes of the world and trying to relate to others.”

The Ballad of the Washed Up (and Seemingly Forgotten)” was written, recorded, produced, and engineered by The Brother Stereo; mixed by Trevor Buckingham; and mastered by Jay Frigoletto at Mastersuite Studio in Brookline, New Hampshire, just over the Massachusetts state line where Pelkey and Kelly grew up together.

The Ballad Of The Washed Up (and Seemingly Forgotten) by The Brother Stereo is a songwriting and musical feat that needs to heard and celebrated.

Michael Robert Kelly: Vocals,  guitar, bass

Shawn Pelkey: Drums

Buddy Sullivan: Guitar

Jon Chesbro Delivers Brilliantly Crafted New EP “Outta State Outta Mind”

We were beyond excited to check out the new EP “Outta State Outta Mind” from New England multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer Jon Chesbro. You can listen to the stellar EP “Outta State Outta Mind” on Spotify Here, Apple Music Here

Jon Chesbro is the true definition of an artist, he meticulously crafts melodic compositions that are not just songs but, are musical works of art and this is on full display on his latest work of art “Outta State Outta Mind”

Credit- Zach Habernen of Post Fix Media

Outta State Outta Mind, gives us a unique snapshot into the musical soul of Jon Chesbro. We got to hear and feel the guitar glow in Jon Chesbro on the summer single “Always & Forever” We were then treated to the expressive and experimental side of Jon Chesbro with last February’s album “Dryas”

“Outta State Outta Mind” has a real alt-rock feel . Inside the 5 tracks on “Outta State Outta Mind “ we get an upfront view of Jon Chesbro’s soul and it is magnificent.

Chesbro beautifully charts a course of inspiration across the country and back, touching down on specific moments and memories tethered to locations that led him far from home, returning to Maine, where he now resides, to complete the record.

“I feel like this EP has been two years in the making,” Chesbro says. “Not all on purpose, but through life’s ups and downs I feel like I’ve been granted this perspective that I can only tell through music. That perspective is through the lens of failure, success, heartbreak, friendship and everything in between. After receiving some of my own heartbreak and getting fed up with life, during Covid’s standstill, I decided to leave my hometown and look for something better. I gained new knowledge and experience. After traveling the country for a bit I found myself back home with my tail between my legs. I didn’t know which way was up, I just knew I had to do something.

We knew we were in for a treat from the first note of “Against The Crowd” and we were right . The melody of “Against The Crowd” Is the kind of thought provoking melody that stays with you long after the music has ended .

The vocals on “See You again” have this real really haunting quality to them, it really added another dimension to the song . We were also captivated by the drum sound on “See You again”

Every song on “Outta State Outta Mind “ possesses a beautiful rock and soul that you just can’t resist. The title track“Outta State Outta Mind” has a real bluesy / jazz tone to it that we absolutely love . Do yourself a favor and allow yourself to get lost in the magic of “Outta State Outta Mind “ from Jon Chesbro you will thank us later.

“Outta State Outta Mind was produced by Jon Chesbro . Mixed and mastered by Jonathan Chesbro at Ebb N Flow Recording Studio.

Derek Smith And The Cosmic Vultures Soar In To The Stratosphere With Stunning New Single “Songbird”

Artwork- Robert Smith

We recently had the remarkable opportunity to check out the new single “Songbird” from Boston rock band Derek Smith And The Cosmic Vultures. You can listen to “Songbird” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

The latest beautifully crafted single “Songbird” from Derek Smith And The Cosmic Vultures, is the fourth single of 2024 from the genre-expanding rock and roll band, following this summer’s electric spark plug “Tomorrow Morning,” and both are featured on the band’s forthcoming new album Opus, out in November

Every song that we get from Derek Smith And The Cosmic Vultures always seems to top the last one . We don’t how they do it but it is a truly magnificent feat. “Songbird” is no exception. Derek And The Cosmic Vultures have really created magic with “Songbird”

What is really so freaking cool about “Songbird is that the song is a true treasure trove of melodic wonderment. We hear some jam band elements, some 90’s Alt, county and as with every Derek Smith And The Cosmic Vultures tune there is always the perfect dose of good old rock and roll.

Songbird’ is about people,Smith says. “We sing the same song. We follow similar patterns to each other. We have secrets, ideas, fears. We all eat, sleep, breathe, lie to ourselves, cry, laugh. We all question things. At least the smart ones do. And we are all going to walk that mile. That one last stroll to whatever our ultimate finale is supposed to be, or what we force it to be. Is it a rebirth? Is it a final resting place? We don’t know. So we make up a fantasy of what it could be.”

The new single is a compass for compassion; it’s a way forward, through the highs and lows of life, softening the twists and turns and highlighting the good while snuffing out the bad. It’s a song rooted in 2024, but its sound rings out as timeless as echoes of ‘70s AM radio gold canvas a yearning spectrum that soars through the songs that shaped us before touching down in the modern day.

We should never stop squinting our eyes at life,” he adds. “We need to keep discovering and keep wondering. But we need to laugh on the way to the finish line. Because life is the perfect blend of ugliness and beauty.”

“Songbird” was mixed at Berlin Audio Productions by Erik von Geldern and Don Schweihofer; mastered by David Locke; and engineered by von Geldern, Schweihofer, and Jon Chesbro, with Rob Countie on as engineering assistant. The single’s artwork was contributed by Smith’s father, accomplished painter and artist Robert Smith.

Derek Smith And The Cosmic Vultures are not only phenomenal musicians, but they also are world craft musical sculptors and with “Songbird” They have created an absolute beauty.

Hedge Delivers A Beautifully Loud ,Sonically and Melodically Pleasing New Album “Better Days”

Artwork @tomlowell

We recently had the tremendous opportunity to check out the well crafted new record “Better Days” via Bloated Kat Records and Midnight Werewolf Records from Worcester, Massachusetts based Pop-punk band Hedge . ( Christopher , vocals, guitar, Pete, bass guitar and Julian, drums)

You can listen to “Better Days” Here

Hedge is one of those bands that have the ability to produce a memorable and catchy melody on every track, seriously we were singing along almost immediately. “Better Days is a treasure trove of pop punk goodness. Hedge also brilliantly mixes in a jangle pop sound similar to The Lemonheads . However, like most well put together bands , Hedge artfully presents a sound all their own .

“Better Days” was skillfully produced by Ezra Cohen. One listen to “Better Days” and it is crystal clear that Ezra definitely knows what buttons to push as he has the band sounding great on “Better Days”

From the first note on “Boulder Toss” we were completely captivated by honest and authentic sound of Hedge.

SPF” (this song had a killer melody mixed with an addictive guitar riff. The title track “Better Days” is definitely a defining moment on the album. Hedge, displays expert musicianship on this track. We can not confirm or deny that we had an office dance party with “No Monsters” and “Bike Song “ It is almost next to impossible to pick a “favorite” song , especially with the quality of song assembled on “Better Days” but we without question have to say our favorite is “Peeling Back The Vines” We loved everything about this tune , the band was firing on all cylinders on this one.

From top to bottom Hedge has delivered an album in “Better Days “ that we think might be your new favorite album… You just don’t know it yet .

Travels With Brindle Display Artistic Brilliance With A Sparkling Cover Of “Tryouts For The Human Race”

Art Credit: Catherine Maddux

Chelsea Spear’s lo-fi ukulele-pop project releases a fully licensed cover of the Sparks classic on today (September 6th) with the video to soon follow

We recently had the breathtaking experience to listen to the new single “Tryouts For The Human Race , from Travels With Brindle .

Travels With Brindle is the lo-fi ukulele pop project from Massachusetts songwriter and artist Chelsea Spear. “Tryouts For The Human Race” is the fully licensed cover of Sparks’ ‘70s classic tune. You can listen to “Tryouts For The Human Race “ Here and on Bandcamp Here .

Chelsea Spear is an artist in every sense of the word . Travels With Brindle is an artistic lens that Spear uses to artfully bring meaningful stories to life. Chelsea Spear elegantly adds a wonderful new perspective on “Tryouts For The Human Race “ from Sparks.

Photo Credit: Krzystina Calderone for Vintage Girl Studios

Recorded at the Boston Public Library, “Tryouts For The Human Race” kicks off a bit of a Sparks era for Spear, as it not only serves as the follow-up to last year’s literary-minded Notes From Undergrad album, but sets the tone for her latest covers record, a ukulele and banjolele reimagining of Sparks’ entire Georgio Moroder-produced disco album “No. 1 in Heaven”, due next year.

One of the things that hit me about Sparks is how effective they are at pastiche and at making genres their own,” says Spear. “It feels like they learn the rules of a genre just so they can subvert them. The fact that Sparks inspire such strong feelings among their fanbase also lends itself well to cover songs – you can hear the joy in the recording.”

The track’s vocals were engineered by Spear’s longtime trusted collaborator Joel Edinberg, with ukulele arrangement by Sage Harrington and mastering by Josh Cohen. Spear helmed the ukulele recording and track mixing, and Catherine Maddux supplied the textured sleeve cover art.

Spear says the effort put in, both for “Tryouts For The Human Race” and the forthcoming record, was worth the time and investment.

“Tryouts For The Human Race “ from Travels With Brindle is a beautiful example of how artistic interpretation can give joyous new life to a classic.

The Collect Pond Deliver Big Time With Killer New Single “Lightbreaker” (Ladder)

We recently had the epic opportunity to check out the new single “Lightbreaker” (Ladder) from Boston based post-punk band The Collect Pond . You can check “Lightbreaker” (Ladder) on Spotify Here and Apple Music Here

We first got to know the incredible sound of The Collect Pond last month when we checked out “Disassociating “ ( Cigarette Dress) which, if you are scoring at home ( and we know you are ) we freaking loved .

The band has now given the universe a new single “Lightbreaker” (Ladder) and it is an absolute gem . The Collect Pond meld post-punk immediacy and jangle pop with a sprinkling of alt-country, synth wave, and indie folk. and it is such a brilliantly constructed sound and it is front and center on “Lightbreaker” (Ladder) .

The Collect Pond is the name under which songwriter Danny Moffat produces his own music. Studio recordings often resemble a collective of musicians with a core four. They are Moffat: Vocals/Guitar, Rob Carrington: Drums, Roger Maranan: Keys/Bass, and Ben Bonadies: Guitar/Bass. They met through connections with the music blog Allston Pudding

Moffat grew up in Bellingham, Washington State in the shadow of grunge and alternative music. Early influences were Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr., and Pixies

When he was 23 he moved to New Zealand and played in The Future’s Bright (live guitarist) and Frend (songwriter/singer/guitarist) which resulted in the latter bearing a critically acclaimed EP that was requested to be in the New Zealand National Libra

Moffat was born with a rare spinal condition called spina bifidawhich often manifests in debilitating nerve pain. He is reminded everyday how much of a gift it is to physically make music, and that sense of urgency fuels the drive behind creating The Collect Pond.

We found ourselves gleefully singing along to “Lightbreaker” (Ladder) at several points in the day ( In our book that’s a good thing .

One of the best feelings in the world is finding a song that just hits perfectly and you want to shout from the rooftops how good it is . We feel this way about “Lightbreaker” (Ladder) from The Collect Pond.

The Brother Stereo Deliver An Absolutely Devine Musical Experience With Latest Single “Time In History “

Artwork by Emily Joy Ashman

Time in History’ is the follow-up to May debut single “After The Rain”

We recently had the absolute privilege to check out the new single “Time In History from Massachusetts alternative rock trio The Brother Stereo led by songwriter Michael Robert Kelly. You can listen to “Time In History “ Here

There is this beautiful mystique about “Time In History “ from The Brother Stereo. The melody slowly rises coupled with lyrics that feel like they come from a well know poetry anthology. Without a doubt “Time In History “ from The Brother Stereo is an artistic and musical experience that you cannot ignore.

With both an anthemic grandeur and an inviting, intimate core, “Time in History” is not your typical 2024 single. The follow-up to The Brother Stereo’s punchy debut May single “After The Rain,” the track engages an introspective sonic journey through its five-minute runtime, canvassing broad strokes across a spectrum of sound with a centered gravitational pull as flashes of indie, psychedelia, post-Britpop, and space rock dance across Kelly’s lived-in sense of lyrical storytelling.

“‘Time in History’ is about the insecurities and complacency of today’s world coupled with the nostalgia of growing up and the longing for yesterday’s world,” says Kelly, the brother of longtime Dropkick Murphys drummer Matt Kelly, and the beloved Boston punk band’s substitute touring bass, banjo, and mandolin player. “I think this song will be relatable to our generation very directly.”

Kelly adds: “Plus, we are just really happy with how it represents what we are capable of producing. It has depth and musicianship and both of those things are very important to the three of us. It’s open for interpretation, which is definitely the way I like to write.”

The “three of us” that Kelly refers to is The Brother Stereo’s new – and inaugural – lineup, featuring Shawn Pelkey on drums and percussion and Buddy Sullivan on guitar. The new additions that took The Brother Stereo from Kelly’s occasional side project to full-on rock band are inextricably linked to the evolution of “Time in History,” which has its own timeline baked into its formation.

The Collect Pond Deliver A Melodic Gem With New Single “Disassociating (Cigarette Dress)”

The Collect Pond artfully meld post-punk immediacy and jangle pop with a sprinkling of alt-country, synth wave, and indie folk.

Disassociating (Cigarette Dress) from The Collect Pond is a gloriously melodic tune that we found ourselves absolutely smitten with. It is clear that The Collect Pond are a group of highly skilled musicians who are dedicated to making amazing music .

The Collect Pond, plays next on Sunday , July 28th at NICE a fest in Somerville, Ma

Danny Moffat grew up in Bellingham, Washington State in the shadow of grunge and alternative music. Early influences were Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr., and Pixies. After a couple of years Moffat read the writing on the wall that his VISA wouldn’t be renewed and reluctantly came back to the US, where he continued playing in bands in Seattle, Portland 12, and Brooklyn before eventually landing in the Boston-area.

Moffat was born with a rare spinal condition called spina bifida, which often manifests in debilitating nerve pain. He is reminded everyday how much of a gift it is to physically make music, and that sense of urgency fuels the drive behind creating The Collect Pond.

“Something Like A War “ grabs your attention right from the start . The Opening track “The Spirit Of Massachusetts Avenue” is a well written , loud and proud anthem of a song that doesn’t let up for a second.

Every single song on “Something Like A War” is brimming with authenticity and truth . It is crystal clear that vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Dan Cummings is not afraid to speak his mind (there is no sugar coating going on at all ) He has also assembled a group of musicians ( Brandon Bartlett, guitar, Brian Ferrazzani, bass and Nick Cali, bass) that add the perfect punch and attitude to his powerful lyrics.

Something Like A War, both the song and the album, are filled with the type of intensity we all need in facing our daily lives – and maintains the Already Dead working class ethos, positioned steadfast as a
voice for labor movements and working class solidarity. And besides, there’s no chance of a
sophomore slump when the moniker is nicked from baseball, yet another way Already Dead areembedded in Boston culture.
I was watching the Ken Burns documentary on baseball,” Cummings admits, “and heard the Ty Cobb
quote about how ‘every game is something like a war’. It immediately resonated with me for a few reasons .First it just sounds badass
[laughs]. But also to describe approaching something with that
kind of intensity and determination struck a chord.”

What we love about “Something Like A War” is that it is a record that is full of brilliantly constructed songs . We live in era where everyone is going for the “single” it’s a nice change of pace to hear an album that kicks ass from top to bottom . From “One Foot”, “Rock Bottom” , “Wits End” and our personal favorite “When You were Great” Something Like A War “ is an album that needs to be heard and played loud .

“Strings” from Michelle Forziati, caught our attention right from the start . We love the unique R&B / Alt sound on “Strings” it is a refreshing change of pace that is definitely needed in today’s musical landscape.

Melodically, “Strings” is a mesmerizing melody that Forziati, compliments with a flawless vocal performance.

“Strings” , is the follow-up to April’s “Stranger,” which found the multihyphenate creative – a former ballroom dance instructor who also played the role of Jill Hurley in the 2017 Jake Gyllenhaal-leading biographical drama film Stronger, about Jeff Bauman’s recovery in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing – taking her musical output to new, ambitious heights.

When asked about asked “Strings”, Forziati shared,

I absolutely love guitars, they just speak to every part of me,” Forziati says. “The sounds they create
are mesmerizing and almost put me in a trance. ‘Strings’ is about loving the sound of a guitar so much
that the person playing it captivates me and I fall in love. However, it’s manipulative because the
performer knows it and he abuses that love.”

The track also features guitar by Michael Strakus and bass by Steve Constantino, two players known in the Boston music scene for their work in Derek Smith and the Cosmic Vultures“Strings”, was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Monty Dale at Graybeard Recording

Michelle Forziati has a style and sound that is impossible to ignore, her refreshing and soulful approach on “Strings” is pure musical perfection.

A new feel, a new outlook, a new opportunity. Don’t be hasty with how you feel. Give it some time; mull it over and be strategic.”

American Ocelot Deliver Absolutely Perfect New EP

American Ocelot celebrate the EP at The Midway Cafe in Jamaica Plain on June 29

We recently had the amazingly awesome opportunity to check out the new self titled EP from Boston indie-rock band American Ocelot. You can check out the EP Here

There is this intoxicating positive energy that is front and center on American Ocelot’s self titled EP. From the opening track “Secret” all the way to closing track “Happier Times”

The new EP is the first release recorded with all of the members of the Boston based indie alt-rock band American Ocelot that first got together in 2022.

Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Joanie Lynch had a certain musical vision dancing around in her head for a long while. But it took assembling the ideal indie alt-rock band around her to bring that vision to playful life.

American Ocelot, is rounded out by Sara Billingsley on vocals and percussion; Kevin James on lead guitar; and Charlie Sullivan on bass

Photo credit : John Soares Photos

The EP is American Ocelot’s first proper release, and arrives a little more than a year after the band posted a few well-received demos to its Bandcamp page back in March 2023. Since then, the Boston band has been playing live around the city’s various local clubs and venues, adding a bit of mystique and intrigue to the project.

But Lynch says that American Ocelot – named after the small, endangered feline after she saw a special on the animal on PBS, a moniker made all the more perfect after each of the band members are cat enthusiasts – has truly rounded into form with this solidified band lineup.

Picking a band name can be very challenging, but we feel like our name fits our personality as a group,” Lynch admits. “Also, everyone in our band owns one or more cats and we feel connected by the name.”

Each American Ocelot track begins with Lynch building its basic structure around a drum machine, keyboards, and vocals before the band builds their own parts and springing the songs to life. Some of the parts on this record were finalized with producer Richard Marr at his Galaxy Park Studio in Salem, with the exception of “Non-Participant,” a song James had in his own arsenal before getting the American Ocelot arrangement treatment.

The opening track “Secret” is a toe tapping, head bopping delight that we fell head over heals for immediately. Joanie Lynch has an absolutely glowing vocal style that fits perfectly with infectious melody of “Secret”

We were instantly drawn to “Everything “ The melody coupled with flawless vocals really grabbed our attention. We found ourselves effortlessly bopping along to “Recording “ The band absolutely cooks on “Non Participant “ We were completely blown away by the musianship from American Ocelot on “Non Participant “ We absolutely hit repeat on this track multiple times. The beginning build up on “Happier Times” gives the track a real indie feel . Once again we found ourselves effortlessly singing along .

Lovina Falls Deliver Stunning New Single “Tragedy”

We recently had the privilege to check out the new single “Tragedy” from Lovina Falls . Lovina Falls is the brilliant art project of Mistle Thrush’s Valerie Forgione. The new single arrives before a headlining show July 6 at The Rockwell in Somerville.

You can listen to “Tragedy” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

“Tragedy” is a gorgeous lush track that is a beautiful example how Valerie Forgione effortlessly turns lyrics and sound into breathtaking art.

“‘Tragedy’ is loud and crunchy, but it’s authentic and still comes from the same place,” Forgione says. “There are similar elements that exist on Calculating the Angle of our Descent, but here they sit more at the forefront. I’m not a particularly angry person, but part of me is a little fed up with how people treat each other. So, I guess this is what comes from being fed up.”

Photo : Joan Hathaway

Though “Tragedy” exists in some unfamiliar lyrical territory for Forgione, where she reacts to an increasingly tense world around her instead of staying focused on the beauty that exists around the distant margins, the sound is still entirely her own. It has a fierce sense of forward motion, swelling with emotion and urgency that broadens her own brand of eclectic alternative rock.

The themes and sounds that Forgione brings to life through Lovina Falls , feels like a well written novel and with “Tragedy” we are hanging on every word.

“Something Like A War” is the title track to Already Dead’s sophomore album due on July 26.

You can listen to “Something Like A War” Here

Massachusetts punk band Already Dead are one of those bands we just can’t get enough of. Already Dead comes at you full force armed with an explosive sound and message to match . This is on full display on “Something Like A War”

We loved the ska feel on “Something Like A War” It is one of those songs that stays with you and before you know it you are singing along . “Something Like A War,” the single, is a missile of a song that clocks in at under two minutes. And might just create a new wave of ska-punk on its own.

It’s about our personal battles – we all know ‘em, we all have ‘em,” Cummings says of the Something Like A War title track. “The struggle we go through to make the right decisions, day in and day out. Accepting we will make mistakes along the way. But still fighting every day, sometimes to amend the sins of yesterday. This and ‘Spirit’ represent the vibe I think the album encapsulates. Lyrically they have themes of social commentary and self-reflection, and musically both are on the harder side.”

We are all in on “Something Like A War” and we are counting the days until the album release.

Crow Follow Deliver A Groovy Trip With “I’m In Love With You”

We recently had the extreme privilege to check out the new single “I’m In Love With You “ via Rock Garden Records from Boston based shaman rock and urban cabaret brigade Crow Follow .

You can listen to “I’m In Love With You “ on Spotify Here and on Bandcamp Here and on Apple Music Here

Listening to “I’m In Love With You” from Crow Follow feels like a groovtastic out of body experience which, we highly recommend.

The musical juices are overflowing on “I’m In Love With You “ as they have artfully added low-rock, post-punk, and art-rock vibes to give you a song that you won’t soon forget.

Crow Follow will bring their brilliant live show to The Jungle in Somerville on June 28 with Emily Grogan Band, Catwolf, and Galaxy Cake

Onstage is where seeds of Crow Follow’s latest smoke dance of a single were first planted, as the music that flows through them during live sets helped foster an intimate connection amongst the band members themselves and the audience in the room. Like a cherry bomb lit off a hot summer sidewalk, the rambunctious “I’m In Love With You” fires dueling guitar and saxophone lines, swirling in unbridled loving energy. Providing a magnetic low-end soundtrack for underground dance parties, it opens our hearts in a time of tension and chaos.

‘I’m In Love With You’ is about this vibe I get when we’re playing on stage,” says Crow Follow guitarist and vocalist Tim Sprague. “The music swells up out of me, but it’s not me. It’s something bigger using me to express this passion, this love. Everyone in the room was a collaborator, a co-conspirator when this song birthed itself on stage. That chorus of ‘You know / I’m in love with you’ comes from an authentic emotion. When the music is running through me I am in love with everyone in the room.”

‘I’m In Love With You’ is another statement of determination from a band that relentlessly promotes our drive to live and thrive,” asserts vocalist Agent Judy. “We will not be swayed from our deepest connections to the evolutionary source of our creative forces. That’s where it’s all at. It says that we can engage power from the carnal core to lofty ideals by engaging with love in all its forms. Art is the expression of that experience.”

Find your favorite music listening spot and get lost in the absolute fantastic vibes from Crow Follow and their latest “I’m In Love With You”

Looking Glass War Proves They Are The Definition Of Cool With Latest Single “See You In Hell, Liberty Bell”

We don’t like to beat around the bush here on The Whole Kameese so, we are just going come out and say it Boston based Looking Glass War is the definition of cool. Their latest single “See You in Hell, Liberty Bell” is hands down one of the best new songs of 2024 .

You can listen to “See You in Hell, Liberty Bell Here.

Fresh off an appearance in the semi-finals of Boston’s infamous “Rock and Roll Rumble,
Looking Glass War are set to release their first single off the forthcoming EP, “Saints of The Lost and Found “, set for release later this fall. Fans of the band’s driving post punk energy and soaring vocal melodies from their 2023 debut EP, “Where Neon Meets The Rain”, are in for a special treat as they continue to evolve their style with the new song “See You In Hell, Liberty Bell”.

Guitarist, Pete Zeigler and bassist Mike Ackley, established the foundation for the song, Zeigler
citing “a three parts equal mix of Chameleons, old REM and Stone Roses”. After the bones of the song quickly evolved creating a song that drummer Tony Porter describes as “one of ourmost interesting yet” with what singer Goddam Glenn believes to be one of the catchiest vocalmelodies he felt he had written for Looking Glass War to date.

Reflecting on the lyrics, Glenn explains “I wanted to write my own version of ‘here we are now,
entertain us’ from that little song you might be familiar with. So I came up with this line ‘inspire
us or die,’ which is obviously a much more menacing demand from the audience. That sets up
the overall ‘attitude’ of the song, lyrically speaking. From there on out, it’s the story of two
people trying (and failing) to establish a relationship in a world that’s falling apart around them.
They are angry and cannot decide whether it’s each other to blame or the rotten state of the
world in which they are trying to make something beautiful emerge.”

“See You In Hell, Liberty Bell” creates an awareness within the band that they have raised the bar on what they can create through a deeper commitment to collaboration and experimentation. “See You In Hell, Liberty Bell” was produced and m astered by Brian Charles Recorded at Rare Signals

If the love of music runs deep in your soul, then Looking Glass War is without question a band that you need in your life . From top to bottom “See You In Hell ,Liberty Bell “ is a melodic work of art with flawless vocals .

The video does a tremendous job of providing the perfect visual for a phenomenal song . The video was directed by  the band’s longtime collaborator, Berto Media

“The Spirit of Massachusetts Avenue” is the explosive lead single to the acclaimed band’s new album, Something Like A War, set for release on July 26.

Like many who travel up and down “Mass. Ave.,” as it’s known by locals, Already Dead’s vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Dan Cummings was struck by the differences from one part of the city versus the other while the union pipefitter was working a Cambridge job in 2017.

The song is an observation that just one road can be two separate worlds caused by social structures and allocations of resources,” Cummings says. “And it delivers a very deliberate ‘#!$& you’ to those who have the power to change things in one of these worlds for the better, but choose not to.”

“Going Out” From Jennifer Tefft & The Strange Has Instant Classic Written All Over It.

We recently had the opportunity to check out the amazing new single “Going Out” from Massachusetts alternative rock band Jennifer Tefft & The Strange via Rock Garden Records . You can listen to “Going Out” Here

Once the infectious beginning guitar riff hits on “Going Out” from Jennifer Tefft & The Strange it is crystal clear that our ears are listening to an absolute gem.

While the previous single , the adrenalized “Caffeine” was all about the end of the night – a closing song in The Strange’s lively setlist lovingly demanding to see everyone again at the next show – the rowdy and boisterous “Going Out” is all about the expectations and excitement at the start of one, as Tefft puts out a call to friends and family to hit the town and make the most of a carefree night out. As the lyrics playfully suggest, she’s put on that miniskirt (yeah, that one), busted out those killer shoes, and just might make the boys at the bar cry into their drinks as her favorite song blasts through the speakers across the room.

And as a mother, Tefft’s “Going Out” is particularly dedicated to all the other moms out there – the ones who may not be able to party like the old days, but know how to throw down when responsibilities and obligations drift away… if only for a few fun hours out on the town.

This song is about, and goes out to, all my fellow moms!” Tefft says. “Especially those that have small kiddos at home and who are staying at home with them. Pulling from my own experience as a stay-at-home mother, as well as a musician who gets to observe people from the stage, there is no group of people who are more likely to go all in on their night out – and even go off the rails – than a group of moms finally getting out for the evening with their friends!”

“Going Out” was produced, recorded, and mixed by GRAMMY award-winning producer Bob St. John (Duran Duran, Collective Soul, Extreme) for PDQ Studios outside Miami, where Tefft spent five days finishing up Strange Beginnings late last year, with additional recording at Knyff Compound Studios. And like “Caffeine,” the song’s loud, invitational nature should further elevate the rising profile of Tefft, the acclaimed musician who has been nominated in both the Boston Music Awards and New England Music Awards while her compositions have been heard across international televisions on Cruel Summer, CSI, Stargate Universe, One Life To Live, The Young & The Restless, and elsewhere.

We cannot wait for next month and the release of the new album “Strange Beginnings “ , we have a feel it is going to be absolutely incredible.

Jon Chesbro Gives The Universe An Absolute Musical Gift With His Magnificent New Album “Dryas”

Sometimes an album comes into our lives that is much more than a record but, more of a musical experience. The latest album “Dryas” from Massachusetts experimental electronic music producer and multi-instrumentalist Jon Chesbro.

You can listen to the amazing musical composition that is “Dryas” Here

Jon Chesbro delivers brilliance right out of the gate with “Dryas” as he has delivered an artist’s life hack, merging all eight tracks on his forthcoming album “Dryas” into one singular listening experience.

It’s a bit of a journey, an expansive evolution of sound and atmosphere that finds the Massachusetts multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer exploring the more experimental side of electronic music through aural dalliances with indie, jazz, blues, synth-pop, and other genres. Whether consumed as one long continuous sonic journey or broken up into eight songs that emerge like chapters, the mostly instrumental “Dryas” is an outlier in today’s music world, and Chesbro is finally ready to set it free today (Friday, February 23.)

Many artist claim to have many different influences on an album. However, you can really feel the different genres on “Dryas” Jon Chesbro is a master sculpture of music who effortlessly brings it all together to present a stunning collection of musical nirvana.

I’ve been waiting for this for way too long,” admits Chesbro. “So to finally get this album done and feel good about it makes me feel complete – and happy that I have a full project to share. If you lay back and listen to this record as one continuous track, it’ll put you through space, no question. But if you’re looking for a specific feeling in a song, you’re likely to find that too.”

For Chesbro, every note is a brushstroke on the canvas of emotion. And while Dryas is a departure from his work as guitarist for the Massachusetts band Derek Smith and the Cosmic Vultures, Chesbro is excited to showcase a new complexity and depth in his solo musical compositions. Lead single “MarchToVictory”, featuring Smith on guest vocals, dropped on New Year’s Day, and a pair of visualizers, the aforementioned “MarchToVictory” and “IntoTheMirror,”

“It all kinda happened organically,” Chesbro says of Dryas. “I was in this really creative mindset for a long time. When inspiration strikes, I don’t stop, I just let the floodgates open up. From a writing perspective, these songs came from desperation. I only had a laptop. A guitar and an interface. I used to have this nice big studio with speakers but as I kept chasing dreams my studio got smaller. I had to create with what little I had.”Chesbro wrote, mixed, mastered, produced Dryas himself, and performed all its instrumentation across its eight tracks. His musical journey began in the church as a young child, singing hymns in the choir and listening to his mother and grandmother play together on the keyboard and organ. With his mother’s urging and support, his life took shape and his personality was developed around playing the guitar.

From the atmospheric, string-laden soundscapes of “CherryBlossom” to the more upbeat and funk-leaning “SpeedOfLight,” Chesbro cycles through his creative rolodex with relative ease, each song blending into the next and further establishing his core identity. It’s a wide-ranging and eclectic spectrum of sounds, all linked together by Chesbro as the core conductor, blending modern electronics and production with an old-school songwriting sensibility.

“Dryas” from Jon Chesbro is a blissful one of a kind musical journey that can not be missed.

We appreciate that exchange of energy from stage to audience – it feels so much like a caffeine buzz, that we will keep that energy alive until we meet again to do it all over again.”

As soon as the flawless vocals from Jennifer Tefft kick in on “Caffeine” we are instantly hooked. Tefft’s new band The Strange – rounded out by lead guitarist John Parrillo; bassist StephenSharkyBeccia; and drummer Chris Georgenes complement Tefft perfectly.

It should further elevate the profile of Tefft, the acclaimed musician who has been nominated in both the Boston Music Awards and New England Music Awards, while her compositions have been heard across international televisions on Cruel Summer, CSIStargate UniverseOne Life To LiveThe Young & The Restless and elsewhere.

This was the last song written for the album – and the first song we’ve really written together as a band and we are all wicked excited about how it came out,” Tefft admits. “We were still actually writing it in the studio, so it is fresh and new for us. Everyone we’ve played it for really responded excitedly to it, so it seemed like a no-brainer to make it our first single.”
