Desert Mambas, the bluesy, moody alt-country project of singer-songwriter and guitarist Bailey Moses, delivers the perfect new EP “Pastel Southwestern “ We also get the music video for “Hot George Costanza,“which is ,  the lead single off their second EP, Pastel Southwestern, both out now via Kill Rock Stars.

There is this real authentic energy around “Pastel Southwestern “ from Desert Mambas . The incredibly talented Bailey Moses has created an absolute indie masterpiece and we can’t get enough of it.

The dusty old time country/Americana vibe on “Pastel Southwestern “ is one of the most refreshing EP’s we have heard in quite some time. Every song is perfectly crafted and executed. From note one on the intro, all the way through to “the Average” we laughed, sang our hearts out and appreciated the overall greatness of “Pastel Southwestern “ from Desert Mambas .

The latest effort demonstrates just how comfortable Moses has gotten in their own shoes, gracefully holding a delicate balance between the intensity of being alive and the George Costanza of it all. “I’m not much of a ladies man / though I try, and I try, and I try / I’m much more a mustard stain on your shirt ‘Hey man your zipper’s down’ / ‘You should really check your fly,’” Moses croons before launching into the song’s soon-to-be-iconic chorus: “I’m like a hot George Costanza / I’m like, so hot you can’t stand it.” 

In Pastel Southwestern, Desert Mambas brings brutal honesty to the forefront, poetically describing everything from the trials and tribulations of the trans experience to the alluring grip of trash TV. Set to the melodic and meditative cadence that Moses is becoming known for, this release showcases their range beautifully, from the soft, spacey twang of their guitar to the intricately woven pedal steel.  And… we love every minute of it .

“I’m so proud of this EP,” said Moses. “I’m not a person who likes to take myself too seriously… but I also absolutely take myself very seriously. These songs capture so much of the seriousness and silliness I love about music simultaneously.”

We recently had the opportunity to check out the new single “Electric Eyes”, from singer-songwriter Jonathan Plevyak.

Pardon the expression but, there is something positively electric about Jonathan Plevyak’s latest single “Electric Eyes”

Jonathan Plevyak has a sound and vibe that unexpectedly grabs hold of your music loving soul and leaves you wanting more . Jonathan Plevyak has sound that while is familiar, it is also fresh and new .

Jonathan Plevyak works like a skilled painter on his latest “Electric Eyes”, artfully delivering an absolute gem.

This is the second chapter of “Loverboy,” Jonathan’s upcoming EP which contains an overarching narrative throughout the whole record. Each song will be a different chapter / theme of love.  Jonathan is collaborating with Universal’s East Iris Studios for a full-length music video as well. This release is just ahead of Jonathan’s headline show at The Basement East in Nashville on September 1st.

We can not wait for more from Jonathan Plevyak. We have a feel it is going to be simply amazing.

It has been an absolute joy watching the rise of Indie pop rising star, MARIS. Today MARIS her amazingly beautiful new single “Salt Water Taffy .

The Collect Pond Deliver A Melodic Gem With New Single “Disassociating (Cigarette Dress)”

The Collect Pond is the name under which songwriter Danny Moffat produces his own music. Studio recordings often resemble a collective of musicians with a core four. They are Moffat: Vocals/Guitar, Rob Carrington: Drums, Roger Maranan: Keys/Bass, and Ben Bonadies: Guitar/Bass. They met through connections with the music blog Allston Pudding. 

The Collect Pond artfully meld post-punk immediacy and jangle pop with a sprinkling of alt-country, synth wave, and indie folk. 

“Disassociating (Cigarette Dress) from The Collect Pond is a gloriously melodic tune that we found ourselves absolutely smitten with. It is clear that The Collect Pond are a group of highly skilled musicians who are dedicated to making amazing music .

The Collect Pond, plays next on Sunday , July 28th at NICE a fest in Somerville, Ma

Danny Moffat grew up in Bellingham, Washington State in the shadow of grunge and alternative music. Early influences were Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr., and Pixies. When he was 23 he moved to New Zealand and played in The Future’s Bright (live guitarist) and Frend (songwriter/singer/guitarist) which resulted in the latter bearing a critically acclaimed EP that was requested to be in the New Zealand National Library.

After a couple of years Moffat read the writing on the wall that his VISA wouldn’t be renewed and reluctantly came back to the US, where he continued playing in bands in Seattle, Portland 12, and Brooklyn before eventually landing in the Boston-area. 

Moffat was born with a rare spinal condition called spina bifida, which often manifests in debilitating nerve pain. He is reminded everyday how much of a gift it is to physically make music, and that sense of urgency fuels the drive behind creating The Collect Pond.

We recently had the opportunity to check out Massachusetts, singer, musician, actress, and dancer Michelle Forziati, and her amazing new alt-R&B single “Strings” You can listen to “Strings” on Spotify Here and Apple Music Here .

“Strings” from Michelle Forziati, caught our attention right from the start . We love the unique R&B / Alt sound on “Strings” it is a refreshing change of pace that is definitely needed in today’s musical landscape.

Melodically, “Strings” is a mesmerizing melody that Forziati, compliments with a flawless vocal performance.

“Strings” , is the follow-up to April’s “Stranger,” which found the multihyphenate creative – a former ballroom dance instructor who also played the role of Jill Hurley in the 2017 Jake Gyllenhaal-leading biographical drama film Stronger, about Jeff Bauman’s recovery in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing – taking her musical output to new, ambitious heights.

When asked about asked “Strings”, Forziati shared,

“I absolutely love guitars, they just speak to every part of me,” Forziati says. “The sounds they create
are mesmerizing and almost put me in a trance. ‘Strings’ is about loving the sound of a guitar so much
that the person playing it captivates me and I fall in love. However, it’s manipulative because the
performer knows it and he abuses that love.”

The track also features guitar by Michael Strakus and bass by Steve Constantino, two players known in the Boston music scene for their work in Derek Smith and the Cosmic Vultures. “Strings”, was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Monty Dale at Graybeard Recording

Michelle Forziati has a style and sound that is impossible to ignore, her refreshing and soulful approach on “Strings” is pure musical perfection.

Battlemode For The Win… “Playlist May Never Come Off Repeat All Summer.

We recently checked out Boston chiptune pop trio Battlemode, and the intoxicating and wickedly addictive new single “Playlist”

The follow-up to January’s instrumental epic “MEGA,” the smoothed-out sonic electro-pop seduction of “Playlist” finds the Battle-dudes – Astrologic (Astro), Bifflecup (Biff), and Sam Mulligan – reminiscing over a lost love through the music that remains, while a hip-hop drop and sexy saxophone, make this song required to have shades as it is red hot .

Despite being a song about heartbreak and how we cope with break-ups in modern times, it should sound like a synth-pop rapture when Battlemode perform it live all over the region this summer: including at O’Brien’s Pub in Allston in early July , a mini-tour around New England in August; and during Hack The Planet Day, where the trio delivers an audio-visual live performance ahead of a special 35mm screening of Hackers at the Somerville Theatre on September 15, an event organized by Battlemode themselves. 

“Lyrically, ‘Playlist’ is a breakup song where one party has moved on, and the other party – the narrator – is still in the headspace of that relationship,” says Biff. “The narrator is using a song playlist the ex curated for him to analyze what went wrong in the relationship.”

Produced by Curt Martin, “Playlist” also positions itself as the perfect drop for the summer season, with its almost Yacht Rock-ian groove, that sexy saxophone inspired by honcho hunk Tim Cappello in ‘80s cult classic film The Lost Boys, and a vibe that’s pretty much Lisa Simpson and Bleeding Gums Murphy performing “Jazzman” underneath the stars at night. 

The summer time is the perfect time to discover a group like Battlemode because , with a smoking hot song like “Playlist “ we have a feeling Battlemode, is going to be the talk of the town .

On their latest single “Tomorrow Morning “ the band takes their special brand of musical magic and a dash of the 70’s to deliver a song that is simply otherworldly.

“I always sort of go back to a song after I have written it and realize it can have many different meanings or mean something completely different later down the road,” says Derek Smith. “I think the one thing I am trying to convey with this song is that no matter what happens to you – tomorrow is another day. A new feel, a new outlook, a new opportunity. Don’t be hasty with how you feel. Give it some time; mull it over and be strategic.”

Recorded, mixed, and Mastered by Monty at Graybeard Recording Studios with engineering by longtime collaborator Jonathan Chesbro and Rob Countie, “Tomorrow Morning” also kickstarts a new era. It’s marked as the first single from a new Derek Smith and the Cosmic Vultures album set to arrive no later than November, and a second single, “Songbird,” is slated to arrive in September.

Emmy Adelle has a stunning one of kind sound that immediately grabs you from note one. “Over” is a beautiful melodically driven song that paired with Emmy’s flawless vocals is absolute perfection.

Originally from the Chicago suburbs and currently based in Miami, multi-faceted Emmy Adelle is a half Filipino artist creating a fusion of organic and electronic pop with haunting melodies – all from her bedroom. “Cry With Me” is a beautifully crafted song that Stephanie Schneiderman delivers a jaw dropping flawless vocal performance. We were literally hanging on every word and note .

Schneiderman wrote, produced, and performed her new single “Cry With Me” as an invitation to stay tender during divisive and painful times as we navigate what’s happening in the world around us. Though it’s a song meant for all, the collective grief and cry for compassion center on the battles women fight every day. Featuring Jenny Conlee (The Decemberists, accordion), Ji Tanzer (Blue Cranes, drums), Tony Furtado (banjo and baritone ukelele) and Keith Brush (Blue Cranes, upright bass), — the impressive collection of musicians composes a compelling sonic atmosphere rife with rage, hope, and uncertainty. The power lies in the melody, somber tone, and unique lyrical perspective. The haunting accordion surges alongside Schneiderman’s effecting vocals, instilling a sense of pain that only truly gifted vocalists possess.

The striking melodies within “Cry With Me” have a beautiful middle eastern feel that give the song an extra dimension.

The accompanying music video was produced and crafted with a diverse crew and an all female cast, helmed by powerhouse Portland director/editor/creatorAlicia J. Rose – known for her music video work (First Aid Kit, Cake, Laura Gibson, The Softies and many others.) She recently won both the Narrative Audience Award at the 2021 Ashland Independent Film Festival and the Best New Directors Award at the 2021 Port Townsend Film Festival with her feature directorial debut “A Kaddish for Bernie Madoff.” The season finale of her 2017 web series “The Benefits of Gusbandry” was hailed as a “delirious masterpiece” by The New York Times.

The video, shot at the vast and gritty decommissioned Zidell Shipyards, embodies grief and humanity spanning seven decades of life, utilizing the incredible talents of five female dancers who beautifully morph into the various stages of grief through dance. You can check out the video below

The Bedside Morale Deliver Honest An Authentic New Single “Yours Sincerely “ From Upcoming EP – “Still Life”

We are not going to hide our feelings on this one…. We recently had a chance to check out the new single “Yours Sincerely “ from Bristol (UK) indie-rock four-piece The Bedside Morale. We were instantly enthralled when we heard their debut single “Safeword” our appreciation for the band grew 10 fold with their follow up single “ Bitter Things”… Now with their latest single “Yours Sincerely “ we can confidently say we have developed a full on music crush for The Bedside Morale . I mean we’re all friends here right ? How can you not listen to the opening of “Yours Sincerely and not picture it placed in a summer blockbuster movie.

The Bedside Morale (Tim Kazer – Lead vocals, guitar, Charlie Dowzell – Lead guitar, Kynan Scott – Bass and Aden Dennis – Drums, Percussion) are a brilliantly assembled music making machine who , have been music together since 2014.

Discussing the single Kazer explains:  “Lyrically Yours Sincerely was a really tough song to write. Kynan had come in with the song framework and that beautiful bass line. It felt sad and quiet to me, dejected I guess, and I knew what I wanted to write about, I just had no idea how to do it. I think like a lot of people I dealt with the trauma I had faced by detaching myself from it. I stood in the rafters so to speak. I could say the words and tell people what happened but in some way I was pretending that wasn’t me. But that’s not what felt right for this song. I wanted the song to be in conversation with that person, a chance, albeit not face to face, to say all the things I never knew enough to. So I had to force myself to really feel it. I tried not to shy away from putting it to paper, or wrap it up in clever wordplay, which was hard because it meant accepting the reality of it and how little control I had. There are still some lines in this song that, if I spend too long focussing on, utterly break me. So that’s Yours Sincerely. A song about trying to love, in spite of all the turmoil.”

Their upcoming debut EP ‘Still Life’, produced and mixed at Stage 2 Studios with Josh Gallop (Mother Vulture, Krooked Tongue, Phoxjaw), is a four-track snapshot in time of where the band were at creatively, at the beginning of their new musical journey.

For a band named after a sleepy Seinfeld character, Jean Paul Jean Paul has a level of energy that is second to none.

The Stews formed in the midst of the pandemic, and used their ample free time to hone in on their songwriting and musical skills. As the world reopened, they brought this new music into the light, much to the delight of music lovers everywhere. 

The Stews, play a brand of rock that truly touches the soul. The Stews have a classic soulful rock sound that borrows perfectly from the past but, also touches the future as well .

The band is thrilled to release new music for the first time since 2022, with their upcoming album Chicken Fight. The title track “Chicken Fight “ has a very fluid soulful almost jam band feel to it . The groove on the track is intoxicating.

The Smokey blues feel makes it was throughout the album with tracks “How It Ends” and “Hourglass” .

“So Much More To You “ shows a little different side to The Stews . Flawless drop dead perfect vocals make this track stand out.

In our opinion the absolute gem of the album is without question “Hard To Fine” If we close our eyes we can picture a stadium full with cell phone lights lit swaying to an absolutely brilliantly beautiful song.

Bottlemoth Is The Definition Of Cool With Debut Single “Tattoo “

Bottlemoth formed in January 2024 by the former members of Bridges. The band cut their teeth touring the UK under their previous moniker, playing tour supports with Slow Readers Club and festivals such as 2000 Trees, Isle of Wight and Glastonbury. Since returning to live in 2024 as Bottlemoth, the band have already performed alongside The Dangerous Summer, Cold Years, Jim Lockey & The Solemn Sun and Adult Leisure. At first listen Deadbeat Daycare reminded us of one of favorite bands, who are also from Chicago- The Smoking Popes . Deadbeat Daycare has a unique sound, there are elements of punk , hardcore and a dash of alt -pop. No matter how you slice it Deadbeat Daycare definitely standout in a sometimes mundane musical landscape.

The musicianship in Deadbeat Day is rock solid, lead by the dynamic and fresh vocals and rhythm guitar of Joaquin Braganza coupled with Ethan Nelson’s lead guitar prowess, Bobby Baldwin’s relentless drumming, and Dan Wright’s solid bass lines ,make Deadbeat Daycare an unstoppable musical force who are ready to make their mark.

“Red Dress” is a catchy and well written song that stays with you long after the music fades ( We may or may not have sung along at the top of our lungs in the drive-thru)

Deadbeat Daycare are quickly becoming known for their incredible live performances. Rising indie-rock artist meg elsier reveals her highly-anticipated debut album, spittake, and we think it is positively amazing.

Blending elements of grunge, contemporary pop, folk, and indie-rock, spittake showcases meg’s ability to create dynamic, versatile, and effortlessly catchy music. Across the album’s 11 tracks, she delivers musings on love, death, nostalgia, youth, anxiety, depression and everything in between, with a uniquely self-deprecating touch. “spittake” is one of those magical/ special records that stay within your soul.meg elsier has such a beautiful and unique sound that you can’t help but take notice.

“The story isn’t necessarily linear,” she explains. “But the main connection throughout is this unreliable narrator that you as a listener determine your view/trust of. They are incredibly inconsistent with their statements but I believe they think they’re telling the truth.”

All of the songs on spittake were solely written and demoed by meg over the last few years. She later collaborated with Nashville-based producer Ryan McFadden to record the final product while still maintaining the DIY spirit of the album as a whole (the lowercase, uncapitalized song titles are a nod to the original demo names). 

The delicate balance of noise and music was beautifully blended on “spittake “ – meg elsier delivered an absolutely magnificent vocal performance throughout “spittake”

We loved the tenderness of the title track “spittake” and reveled in the beautiful crunchy noise of “iznotreal” One of the highlight tracks is the single “ifshitfuq” where we feel meg absolutely shines . If we had to pick a favorite track ( which is next to impossible to do ) we would choose “youngestchild” The vocals and melody on “youngestchild” are exactly why we love music- Bravo

Many artists tend to craft an album that is one sided however, on “spittake” meg elsier brilliantly makes each track memorable and unique.

American Ocelot Deliver Absolutely Perfect New EP

There is this intoxicating positive energy that is front and center on American Ocelot’s self titled EP. From the opening track “Secret” all the way to closing track “Happier Times”

The new EP is the first release recorded with all of the members of the Boston based indie alt-rock band American Ocelot that first got together in 2022.  

Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Joanie Lynch had a certain musical vision dancing around in her head for a long while. But it took assembling the ideal indie alt-rock band around her to bring that vision to playful life. 

American Ocelot, is rounded out by Sara Billingsley on vocals and percussion; Kevin James on lead guitar; and Charlie Sullivan on bass

The EP is American Ocelot’s first proper release, and arrives a little more than a year after the band posted a few well-received demos to its Bandcamp page back in March 2023. Since then, the Boston band has been playing live around the city’s various local clubs and venues, adding a bit of mystique and intrigue to the project.   

But Lynch says that American Ocelot – named after the small, endangered feline after she saw a special on the animal on PBS, a moniker made all the more perfect after each of the band members are cat enthusiasts – has truly rounded into form with this solidified band lineup. 

“Picking a band name can be very challenging, but we feel like our name fits our personality as a group,” Lynch admits. “Also, everyone in our band owns one or more cats and we feel connected by the name.”   

Each American Ocelot track begins with Lynch building its basic structure around a drum machine, keyboards, and vocals before the band builds their own parts and springing the songs to life. Some of the parts on this record were finalized with producer Richard Marr at his Galaxy Park Studio in Salem, with the exception of “Non-Participant,” a song James had in his own arsenal before getting the American Ocelot arrangement treatment. 

The opening track “Secret” is a toe tapping, head bopping delight that we fell head over heals for immediately. Joanie Lynch has an absolutely glowing vocal style that fits perfectly with infectious melody of “Secret”

We were instantly drawn to “Everything “ The melody coupled with flawless vocals really grabbed our attention. We found ourselves effortlessly bopping along to “Recording “ The band absolutely cooks on “Non Participant “ We were completely blown away by the musianship from American Ocelot on “Non Participant “ We absolutely hit repeat on this track multiple times. The beginning build up on “Happier Times” gives the track a real indie feel . Once again we found ourselves effortlessly singing along .

Lovina Falls Deliver Stunning New Single “Tragedy”

“Tragedy” is a gorgeous lush track that is a beautiful example how Valerie Forgione effortlessly turns lyrics and sound into breathtaking art.

“‘Tragedy’ is loud and crunchy, but it’s authentic and still comes from the same place,” Forgione says. “There are similar elements that exist on Calculating the Angle of our Descent, but here they sit more at the forefront. I’m not a particularly angry person, but part of me is a little fed up with how people treat each other. So, I guess this is what comes from being fed up.”

Though “Tragedy” exists in some unfamiliar lyrical territory for Forgione, where she reacts to an increasingly tense world around her instead of staying focused on the beauty that exists around the distant margins, the sound is still entirely her own. It has a fierce sense of forward motion, swelling with emotion and urgency that broadens her own brand of eclectic alternative rock.  

The themes and sounds that Forgione brings to life through Lovina Falls , feels like a well written novel and with “Tragedy” we are hanging on every word.

Sleepwalker Has Our Full Attention With New Self Titled EP

We recently had the privilege to check out the new self titled EP from Sleepwalker . Sleepwalker is the new EP and project from musican Kevin Harrison.

With Sleepwalker, Kevin Harrison has created a one of a kind sound that we can’t turn away from . From the first note on “When The Lights Go Down” all the way through to the fascinating instrumental “Delirium “ we fell deep for the indie-rock/folk/blues sound that is on full display on the self titled EP

We were awash in a beautiful wave of sound on “When The Lights Go Down “ There is a mysterious blusey tone on the track that we can’t get enough of.

“Wake Me Up” which was one of our favorite track on the EP , was the catalyst for the entire Sleepwalker project. It begins with quintessential folk-rock softness before the shackles of standard songwriting constraints fall away amidst the synths, fuzz, and layers of emotive vocals. In the absence of lyrics, there’s a whispering piano floating in the ether, a disorientation that echos the question of “Am I still me?” despite all the changes around you. It was inspired by many sleepless nights as a new parent and the uncertainty that comes with raising the future. (As a fellow parent this one really resonated with us .

Throughout the Sleepwalker EP. Harrison artfully places tones and sounds to really give the EP a unique sound and feel .

Vocally throughout the EP , Harrison puts on absolute vocal clinic. On the title track “Sleepwalker” we literally got chills listening to the flawless vocal performance. “Burn” has a really Smokey feel that stays in your soul , long after the music ends .

From top to bottom there isn’t a bad song on “Sleepwalker” it is truly a work of musical greatness that you can’t afford to miss.

Los Angeles-based pop punk outfit Cold Weather Kids is excited to release their brand new single “Pop Punk Fuck Up” via Revival Recordings. 

The single speaks to a feeling that many may feel with themselves and the world around them. So rather than complain about our problems, we’d rather acknowledge that we’re just going do us and accept everybody has problems and nobody cares,” Ryan continued.

Brooklyn based post-punk outfit Clone brilliantly and artfully test the boundaries of music and sound on their new LP “CL.1”via Portland label Little Cloud Records  and North Carolina’s 5BC Records , and we love every single minute of it.

“CL.1” is a record makes you immediately take notice . Clone is hardly a musical clone they have a vibe and sound that is uniquely their own.

The album opens with the well crafted gem “Room Of Tears” we found ourselves hanging on every word. The vocal performance on “Room Of Tears “ is absolutely stunning.

We found ourselves instantly drawn to “Dazzler” by the chorus we were eagerly singing along . Single, “Divided Line” shows a band that is in sync and on point .

Every song on “CL.1” is excututed with absolute perfection. However, if we had to pick a favorite it would be “Insides” Clone absolutely brings everything they have on this track and boy does it show – Bravo

Well … there is one band that everytime they release new music we are immediately obsessed with . That band of course, is Bristol-(U.K.) based alt-rock trio Pollyanna Blue . ( Zoe Collins-guitar, vocals, Rich Earle, bass, vocals and Neil Loftus , drums)

We have been big on these guys since we heard their wicked single “Haunted” in October of 2022.

We are absolutely smitten with the tone and overall sound of “Vultures “ from Pollyanna Blue. The members of Pollyanna Blue are all highly skilled musicians that bring a high level of energy that is simply magical and it is on full display on “Vultures”

“Vultures” is a lemonade track. By taking some pretty crappy lemons that life throws your way and squeezing out all of the sour anger, the band have created a ferociously riffy dessert rock track, ready for you to taste. Most people have come across a vulture or two in their lifetime and this song is a way of warning you to watch out for these greedy birds, to run away from them and to let them know they won’t get away from what they’ve done.

“Vultures” is a well crafted song with strong and memorable lyrics that stay with you long after the song has faded.

Lyrically the fearlessness of self expression and narrating themes of mental health and navigating human complexity fits well with the origin of the band’s name, which was influenced by the self help book ‘Feel The Fear and Do it Anyway’. These lyrics are backed by a vocal performance from Zoe, who brings a beautifully soulful yet aggressive power.

In our opinion it is almost impossible not like indie band The Stews. They have a one of kind unique sound that along with their relentless touring have them winning over music fans where ever they go .

Their latest single “So Much More To You” is a laid back groove with flawless and soulful vocals . We were instantly smitten.

The Stews have been a non-stop touring machine. Playing hundreds of shows a year has allowed them to hone in their musical and songwriting skills alike. With 2023 summer tour sellouts ranging from Washington DC’s 9:30 Club, Charleston’s Windjammer, New York City’s Bowery Ballroom, and countless more, The Stews have proven that they are a musical force to be reckoned with. Julia Raye has a soulful R&B-Pop sound that is absolutely stunning. and on full display on her latest single “Expectations” The new single, which was produced by Bret “Epic” Mazur (Crazy Town, Prince, Black Eyed Peas), is an alluring R&B-pop gem that highlights Julia’s impressive vocal range.

“I wrote ‘Expectations’ when I was feeling torn with the relationship I was in at the time,” she says. “I kept feeling so much pressure from both myself and the people around me. This song is my inner monologue as I try to figure out what my expectations are for us while navigating this relationship.”

Hailing from Long Island, New York, 23-year-old Julia Raye has been performing for as long as she can remember. She grew up taking dance classes, singing, and performing in local musical theater productions. By age 17, she had performed in over twenty musical theatre shows along with performances with the New York All State Choir and ACDA All National Choir. She went on to study vocal performance at the University of Michigan where she was able to learn from George Shirley, a pioneer in the opera world who became the first African-American to perform at the Metropolitan Opera.

From the first note we could tell that Julia Raye is a special talent with a voice that is impossible to forget. We loved “Expectations” and, we have a feeling Julia Raye is just getting warmed up .

“Dreamer”, showcases Kobra’s open heart to the magic of a child’s mind… Kobra takes you on a journey with “Dreamer”, expressing how nurturing the purity and innocence within the children of this world symbiotically nurtures and creates healing of our own inner child.

Kobra wrote this song with her dear friend and collaborator Timo Somers. Timo is featured on several songs on her upcoming project. They met many years ago on a European tour and it’s been a great experience for Kobra to collaborate on her new music and share his versatility both as a guitarist and songwriter.

“Dreamer” has this mythical quality to it that is simply mesmerizing. We were hanging on every word and note from Kobra Paige .You definitely need to check it out. We can’t wait to see what Kobra Paige, does next.

Chloe Mayse Delivers Stunning New Single and Video “High School”

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out the new pride month single and video “High School” from Toronto queer alt-pop singer-songwriter Chloe Mayse.

In 2014, she won a singing competition with her YouTube video submission, to sing backup for Tegan and Sara at the Juno Awards. This was a huge highlight in her life because Tegan and Sara are queer musicians that Chloe has always looked up to and they have influenced her style of music that she creates.

Chloe started singing at age 2 and picked up the guitar at the age of 10. She also plays piano, ukulele, and bass guitar. Chloe wrote her first song at 15 and the process of writing songs helped her figure out who she really was and how she identifies her sexuality.

As a teenager, she struggled with an undiagnosed mental health disorder and has mentioned that music saved her life. Chloe is a strong advocate for the queer community in Toronto and wants to bring awareness towards mental health issues that everyone may struggle with at some point in their life. 

We were absolutely taken by the otherworldly vocal performance by Chloe Mayse,on “High School” .

Here’s what she had to say about it: “High School “ is based on my experience of going to an all-girls catholic school. It’s my ‘coming out’ song- the one I wish I could have released at fifteen. I was closeted when it came to my sexuality, and wasn’t confident enough to tell my friend that I was in love with her. I had these intense feelings and at the same time was trying so hard to keep it all a secret from everyone. The music video shows what I was picturing in my mind- writing lyrics, thinking about this friend who I was completely in love with and how I would have wanted our interactions to go if I had been out in high school

The summer and fall months are the perfect time to head out and enjoy some live music . Soul Asylum will be hitting the road throughout the summer and fall. Look for them to bring their energetic live set to multiple festival stages, as well as the Jubilee Tour with Stone Temple Pilots and Live. Additionally, they will embark on The Slowly But Shirley Tour, a major city tour in the fall with support from The Juliana Hatfield Three, who are celebrating the 30th (ish) anniversary of their debut album “Become What You Are. The trio will play the album in its entirety along with other songs from their catalog.

With a career that spans three decades, the band’s indie success led them to enter the major-label mainstream with 1988’s Hang Time and its 1990 follow-up And the Horse They Rode In On, before achieving a commercial breakthrough with 1992’s triple-platinum Grave Dancers Union. Nearly a decade later, Soul Asylum returned in 2006 with The Silver Lining, followed by Delayed Reaction in 2012, and Change of Fortune in 2016. Their 12th studio album, Hurry Up and Wait, was released in 2020 to both fan and critical acclaim, landing the band their highest Billboard chart position since 1995’s platinum-selling Let Your Dim Light Shine. The Born Free EP, also released in 2020, features acoustic versions of songs from Hurry Up and Wait.

Over the years, Soul Asylum fans have enjoyed several reissues of earlier releases, including 2022’s remastered and expanded Grave Dancers Union: 30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition. Soul Asylum: The Complete Unplugged – NYC ‘93 was released in 2023, featuring sixteen tracks, including four previously unreleased, non-broadcast songs from their MTV Unplugged set. Thought to be lost for over 20 years, master recordings of the band’s 1993 performance have been newly mixed from the original tapes for this release.

The Dollyrots Deliver Beautiful New Video For “Trees Sway”

We recently had our day totally made because we got to check out the new video for “Trees Sway” from one of our absolute favorite bands – The Dollyrots (Kelly Ogden (bass and vocals), Luis Cabezas (guitar and vocals), and Simon Hancock, drums)

Cabezas shares, “I was gifted the song in a dream and woke up abruptly, turned to Kelly and said, ‘Turn your phone audio record on, I’ll be right back.’ I grabbed a guitar and played the whole thing, front to back, complete with lyrics in one go. That became the song, and when she sang it for the record, it took on a life of its own.”

We loved “Trees Sway” from the first time we heard it. We are simply over the moon , that there is now a visual for the track .

The band is set to embark on The Wrapped In The Sunshine Tours, hitting the West Coast in June with Diesel Boy and Go Betty Go on select dates, and East Coast dates in July with The Boreouts and Soraia. The full list of tour dates is below, and tickets are available Here

We recently had the opportunity to check out “We Go On” from Central New Jersey alternative rock outfit Bobby Mahoney.

Bobby Mahoney, are newly signed to Stevie Van Zandt’sWicked Cool Records, has released “We Go On,” the next single off the band’s upcoming label debut, ‘Another Deadbeat Summer,’ out June 14.

Mahoney says, “We began tracking “We Go On” in Joe Pomarico’s parent’s basement in September 2020, in the middle of the Pandemic. We were masked-up, socially-distanced, etc. We were all starved for human interaction/connection, and live music, so it was important to us that we built the song up from a foundation of us all playing together in a room. It is a song about death, the cosmos, “Enjoying Every Sandwich” as Warren Zevon said.

We were instantly drawn to the blue collar sound of Bobby Mahoney. The music is real and authentic and even if you are checking the band out for the first time ,they have a familiar and genuine sound that you can’t ignore. “We Go On” is a song that is destined to live on repeat on your favorite device.

From the moment we heard the first track “High Maintenance “ on the new EP “All Business “ we knew we were in for a world class music experience.

“High Maintenance “ is a well crafted anthem that has an infectious melody and vibe that, will have you singing along long after the music has stopped. Robotic Hawks ( Tyler Pollard , vocals/bass , Shawn Doherty, guitars and Brian Sturk,drum) have this one of a kind musical energy that grabs your attention in every song , it is simply stunning.

“Cab Ride” which, is a cover of The Squeaky Fromme’s “Cab Ride,” a song near and dear to Pollard originally penned by his close longtime friend Damien Pratt. Robotic Hawks have such a unique groove unlike few bands we have heard in quite some time. It is because of this, that each song has so many special “ musical moments” that make the songs so memorable on “All Business “

“The song themes on All Business center around the need for self-awareness,” Pollard admits. “Sometimes you have to ask yourself the hard questions, whether you want to or not. Trust yourself before you can trust others. Gotta have faith, right?” 

We were absolutely captivated by every song on “All Business “ however, the one that really stood out to us and made us push repeat again and again is “Further” We listen to a lot of music here at The Whole Kameese ( We’re a music blog it’s what we do) But we can honestly say that “Further” is one of those special songs , that you remember for the rest of your music loving life. Flawless epic rock vocals coupled by an absolutely mesmerizing melodic jaw dropping groove.

So if “All Business “ was just a 3 song EP we would be grateful…… But as luck would have it there is a 4th track and it is straight up phenomenal……. Robotic Hawks deliver a sensational cover of Terence Trent D’Arby’s classic “Wishing Well “ and it is amazing.

Pollard says the Terence Trent D’Arby classic was one of those songs that just connected with him when he was younger, on a level like Paul Simon’s “50 Ways To Leave Your Lover”, Asia’s “Heat of the Moment”, or Simple Minds’ “Don’t You Forget About Me.” He calls it a “lightning strike” song for him when it came out, and now he gets to apply the alt-rock treatment to it.  

All Business is positioned well. Robotic Hawks, fresh off being named “Rising Star: New Hampshire” at the 2023 New England Music Awards, are set to perform at the 2024 Rock and Roll Rumble at The Middle East in Cambridge on Saturday, April 13. It marks a long-awaited return to the “World Series of Boston Rock” for Pollard, who in 1999 participated with his band the control group, which also featured Robotic Hawks’ producer Andrew James King.

From note one on “Burn Out” on “The Sprawl” from Close Talker , we instantly captivated. Close Talker has a vibe and energy in their music that is absolutely mesmerizing. As we listened to each well crafted song on “The Sprawl” , we felt like we were reading a best selling novel .

Will,Matthew and Chris are master level musicians who give an absolutely flawless performance on “The Sprawl“ It is clear in listening to “The sprawl “ , that Will, Matthew and Chris bring the absolute best in each other. From “King George “ , Exodus, and our personal favorite “Tall Boy” there isn’t a bad song to be found anywhere on “The Sprawl”

The project that started as a passion for three friends in 2012 has become formative to their identities. It’s applying the nurture vs. nature argument to now-thirty year olds from the Canadian prairies, a place where change happens slowly and nostalgia holds strong. These are the core themes they dig into in th ‘The Sprawl’. ‘The Sprawl’ accounts for the years 2013-2019 in Close Talker: six years of full-on writing,

recording, touring, rinse, wash, repeat. Those years included incredible highlights and successes, in exchange for burnout and time away from home. Ultimately this period ended with Close Talker needing a break, coaxed by the pandemic into an indefinite hiatus. Taking this break allowed the band to explore other avenues in music. Will dove deep into writing and production and began scoring music for films. Chris built Slow Weather Music, a record label with an expanding roster of new Canadian artists. And eventually, three years later, Close Talker found themselves reminiscing on all the fond memories from ‘The Sprawl’ with the ones causing burn out starting to fade. Memories brought inspiration, and inspiration brought Close Talker back into the studio. They have produced an album that brings together all they have learned over their career; earworm melodies, intricate drums, soaring guitars, and prairie charm.

“Blood Orange Wine”, is the last of the trilogy and is an upbeat indie pop bop. She confides,”The song is about the adrenaline wearing off after being emotionally yanked around by a person I loved. For months I was turning to vices to bury the pain and I soundtracked this period of my life with a lot of Fleetwood Mac and Electric Light Orchestra. I’m not surprised they ended up having a huge influence on how the record ended up sounding. It turns out that time is the only thing that truly heals, and honestly thank God for that.”

We absolutely love the accompanying visuals which are cinematically thrilling with Stela teaming up with award winning directors Eliot Lee and Maya Sassoon and co-star Noah Gonzalez to create a dramatic and enthralling story.

Dead Runes has a unique soulful sound that is beautifully manifested by 3 master level musicians( HunterEast,guitar,Vocals,Pogs,bass and Steve Janson,drums) The band displays an expert level of musicianship as they flawlessly deliver an LP that is the perfect slice of honest to goodness great rock and roll.

The album opens with the melodically pleasing “Secrets Of The Mountains” The guitar work on “Secrets Of The Mountains “ was a pure of art .

“Allfathers Path “ is simply a tremendous groove, the band is most definitely running on all cylinders on this tuneful track .

The title track “RAIDHO” is Dead Runes at their absolute best , “RAIDHO” is one of those songs that is just perfect it’s not too much or too little everything about it , sound , style, vocals – perfect.

Our favorite track on “RAIDHO” has to be hands down…. “Different Stars” We love the melodic tones on this track it pairs perfectly with the vocals . If someone is looking him for a good song , play them “Different Stars” from Dead Runes they will definitely thank you later.

A beautiful melody with hypnotic beats and flawless vocals “Next To Me” from Hunter Blair Ambrose is absolutely one song you can’t afford to miss.

The track is a synth-pop love song that is equal parts mid-tempo banger and power ballad. “NEXT TO ME” was co-written by longtime collaborator and producer Jason Strong (Gayle, Mothica, Salem Elise)  in the fall of 2022. The song’s lyrics serve as a confession of love and devotion to a somewhat unsuspecting love interest and an expression of making the decision to give into falling in love. It was also written about making the conscious decision to give your entire heart and soul to someone and the desire to have them by your side through the ups and downs of life.

After a decade-long hiatus, The IDORU made a powerful comeback in 2020 with a new 3-song EP titled ‘Old Songs,‘ Originating in 2003, the band boasts an extensive history, undertaking headlining tours across Europe and Japan. Bad Mary Delivers Your New Favorite Song And Video Of 2024 With “Forget About It”

The song is the first release from their Better(er) Days EP, which is a collection of re-recorded and remixed versions of the songs from their first album Better Days, in celebration of its 10th Anniversary.

“Forget About It” from Bad Mary is the kind of song that reminds us why we love music in the first place . Flawless vocals coupled with an addictive melody and dead perfect drum beats , We will never forget “Forget About It” from Bad Mary.

Bassist Mike Staub explains, “Forget About It” is a song we’ve been playing in our sets for years. It’s probably the song that we have played the most as a band. An important part of every set, it’s been a crowd favorite forever. With Better(er) Days we really wanted to capture the live energy and the chaos of a song with less than two chords, one line of lyrics, and a one-note guitar solo”.

In addition to Staub (bass/vocals, Bad Mary is Amanda Mac (vocals), Bill Mac (drums), and David Henderson (guitar). Their songs have been a staple in rotation on SiriusXM’s Underground Garage, they garnered the New Music Spotlight and Coolest Song In The World in 2023, and “Forget About It” is already getting airplay on Rodney Bingenheimer’s SiriusXM show. This tight-knit unit uses humor and the power of music to push back on all the negativity going on in the world.

Alberta Cross were formed by Swedish-born lead singer and guitarist Petter Ericson Stakee and his London pal Terry Wolfers in the mid-00s. From the first track “Culture” you can not help but be impressed by the absolute power that ‘92 bring with their sound .

Comprising of Jabril Ward, Nick Sturz, Brandon De Vincenzo, Cole Patterson, and Quintin Barnum, the band draws inspiration from artists like Rage Against The Machine, Dr. Dre, Trapped Under Ice, Leeway, The Warriors and more, resulting in a heavier version of Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their debut EP, “‘92,” explores themes of rebellion rooted in the symbolic 1992 riots. ’92’s inception, driven by a mission to be spokespeople for the unheard, shapes their unique musical journey.

All five tracks are absolutely dead perfect however , there is one track that we keep coming back to….. “Brick By Brick” is absolute work of art . We love everything about the track . ‘92 is firing on all cylinders on “Brick By Brick” and we freaking love it .

Exploring our minds’ complexities enables us to navigate the information landscape with awareness, recognizing the influence of algorithms on our perception of the world.

Algorithm’ descends upon the listener with an eerie and foreboding introduction, fusing ethereal spacey elements with mechanical sounds. Haunting screams and a menacing riff set the stage, forewarning of an unseen menace.
