We had the absolute privilege to check out Nashville-based singer and songwriter Sam Varga, and his new EP, “The Fallout” You can listen to “The Fallout Here
We have long been in awe of Sam Varga and his authentic sound and vibe . “The Fallout “ is Sam Varga, at his absolute best.
The seven-track collection brings together his recent run of singles alongside two brand-new songs, “What If I’m Okay?” and “Sticking With It.”
The track that really stood out to us on “The Fallout” is the opening track, “Isabella” . It is a well written track with drop dead perfect vocals.
The Fallout finds Varga leaning deeper into his alt-country edge while holding tight to the raw vulnerability that has always set his music apart. It’s an EP that refuses to sit neatly in one lane, instead bringing together the grit of Americana, the restless drive of punk, the emotional urgency of emo, and the hook-driven immediacy of alt-pop. The result is a sound that feels both grounded and restless, with steel guitars rubbing up against jagged distortion and confessional lyrics unfolding with anthemic force.
The Fallout’ represents the entire past year of my life,” says Varga. “For me, it’s my emotional and social diary of 2025, and it’s allowed me to process the world around me—whether it be breakups, growth, or the political and social hellscapes of this year. It’s also the accumulation of my sonic development since moving to Nashville, with punk, country, singer-songwriter, and folk elements all dancing in rhythm. This project also puts to bed a lot of concepts I’m leaving behind: warring with myself, the self-deprecation, and any residual bitterness I’ve carried. I’m stoked that all of that was alchemized into something fun that just rips.”
Sam Varga is a Nashville-based artist blending his emo roots with Southern grit and singer-songwriter soul. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, he came up in the city’s DIY emo scene, cutting his teeth on loud guitars, basement shows, and late-night chaos. At home, his parents filled the house with ’80s rock, Southern staples, and classic lyricists, giving him a rich musical foundation. That mix of raw punk energy and emotional storytelling now fuels a sound that sits somewhere between alt-country and rock. It’s gritty yet melodic, with acoustic textures and dynamic, genre-blurring instrumentation.

Truth be told, we have been smitten with the authentic and one of a kind sound of Sam Varga for quite sometime and after hearing his latest gem , “Queen Of The Ashes” our admiration continues to grow.
The brooding, guitar-driven anthem tells the story of a woman who burns down her entire world in an attempt to get revenge on those who hurt her. Fueled by Varga’s signature emotional intensity, “Queen of the Ashes” channels the chaos and allure of self-destruction into something strikingly cat
“I had the title for a while and knew exactly who I wanted to write it with,” Varga shares. “Caroline [Romano] is an outstanding artist, and Spencer [Jordan] has been my best friend since I got to town—he’s the special sauce on so much great music coming out of Nashville and LA.” The trio wrote the song in a single night at Varga’s apartment before bringing it to producer DanSwank (All Time Low, Knox, Taylor Acorn), who helped bring the vision to life in a quick-fire studio session.
Building on the sound he introduced with his 2024 debut album Shadow Work, Sam Varga continued to expand his vision with breakout singles like “Minute Man” and “Long Way Back.” Now, with “Queen of the Ashes,” he pushes even further, deepening his alt-country edge while preserving the raw vulnerability and urgency that set his music apart.
Raised in Louisville’sDIY emo scene and now based in Nashville, Varga blends raw punk energy with singer-songwriter soul, landing somewhere between alt-country and indie rock. Addictive, sharp, and self-aware, his music is emotionally unfiltered, self-deprecating, and unflinchingly human.

We recently had the stellar opportunity, to check out the blazing new single, “Long Way Back”, from Nashville-based artist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Sam Varga. You can listen to “Long Way Back” Here
We first heard the amazing Sam Varga, back in March , of last year with his single , “Never Better”, to say we were impressed, is a huge understatement. Sam Varga , has a one of a kind sound and vibe that is positively electrifying.
Sam, returns with his poignant new single, “Long Way Back,”a raw, reflective track that dives into the emotional wreckage of staying too long in the wrong place.
“Long Way Back” blends Sam’s emo-rooted honesty with stripped-down, Americana textures—including a touch of mandolin—that deepen the song’s introspective weight. It’s a story of heartbreak told in hindsight, where clarity only arrives once you’re already lost.
“I was with someone special for a long time, but deep down, I always knew it wasn’t right,” he shares. “One day, you wake up miserable, wondering how you got there. I think we’ve all been in something we knew wasn’t for us. The longer you stay, the harder it is to leave, and the longer it takes to find your way back. It’s like missing your exit on the highway and watching it disappear in the rearview, getting further and further away. Eventually, you have to tear yourself away to save yourself.”
Sam Varga is a Nashville-based artist blending his emo roots with Southern grit and singer-songwriter soul. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, he came up in the city’s DIY emo scene, cutting his teeth on loud guitars, basement shows, and late-night chaos. At home, his parents filled the house with ’80s rock, Southern staples, and classic lyricists, giving him a rich musical foundation that laid the groundwork for his genre-blurring sound. That blend of raw punk energy and emotional storytelling forms the backbone of his sound, landing somewhere between alt-country and rock, woven with acoustic textures and dynamic instrumentation.
There is so much to love about SamVarga, He gives his whole heart and soul to his music and the results are breathtaking. “Long Way Back” , is a brilliantly written gem that has Sam Varga, firing on all cylinders- full speed ahead.
His 2024 debut album Shadow Work carved out space on the emo-tinged edges of the country world, where steel guitars, emotional gut-punches, and punk spirit converge. Now, with “Long Way Back,” Sam Varga pushes that sound further—deepening the alt-country edge without losing the vulnerability and urgency that sets his music apart. We have a feeling the adventure is just starting to gain steam and we can’t wait to see where it goes.
We recently had the extreme privilege to check out the new star studded punk rock opera, “This Never Happened “ from The Frst. You can listen to “This Never Happened” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here
“This Never Happened “ from The Frst, is a beautifully crafted display of pure punk rock brilliance, The Frst didn’t just set the bar in terms of an incredible album, they took to it a completely different universe and it’s extraordinary.
This Never Happened”, their new full length , from The Frst, contains 13 tracks- highlighting some of Alternative Rock & Punk’s biggest icons, featuring members of Eagles of Death Metal, Bowling For Soup,Sleeping With Sirens, The Almost, Chiodos, The Dangerous Summer and helmed by producers George Perks (Skindred, Enter Shikari) and Matt Malpass(Blink 182, mgk) for a sprawling Nu Punk record that encompasses nearly every genre along the way.
Containing some of The Frst’s already established tracks such as “Bruce Lee” which hit #29 on the iTunes Rock Chart, and This Is Me Now which hit #46 on the same chart, “This Never Happened” contains fresh material, most notably “kNOw (feat. Makeout)” an uptempo Punk Rock anthem that’s equal parts The Donnas and Black Flag. Lyrically exploring themes of life in the 20’s, “kNOw” is a wake up call to attention with lyrics like “Wouldn’t you like to know, the freak show, the doom scroll…)
Meanwhile, “Ego Is The Enemy” is a short but mosh worthy Trap-Metal banger clocking in under 40 seconds, and yet the idea is perfectly crystallized by a single phrase, ‘my ego is the enemy.’ The true artistry however, is in the track order and the way each song flows seamlessly into the next. “This Never Happened” walks the delicate balance of feeling like a modern playlist of different artists, and a classic concept album such as Dark Side of The Moon or Sgt. Pepper that paints a vivid picture from beginning to end. Frontman Mikei Gray explains that it wasn’t by accident.
“Part of the concept for the record…is that the album is a playlist that the main character has created to accompany them through the various twists and turns of the story. Each song is supposed to be a little different and sometimes juxtapose what’s next to it.”
Regardless of the lore, the ever changing line-up on each song is enough to keep even the most boisterous listeners attentive.
Do yourself a favor and check out the amazing new record, “This Never Happened “ from The Frst

We recently had the otherworldly opportunity to check out the new single “Want That” from Nashville based alt-pop solo act Dawning. You can listen to “Want That” on Spotify Here and Apple Music Here
We absolutely love it when we get music from an artist that we have never heard of. ( It feels like opening a mystery present on Christmas morning.
We definitely felt this excitement, when we listened to the new single “Want That” from alt-pop solo act Dawning ( and it did not disappoint)
The second of four songs slated for release, which will all culminate in an EP, “Want That “follows Dawning’s recent single ‘Blue‘ into a world of dark, atmospheric electronic-pop. The song is a meditation as a consumer in a consumerist culture within the wider context of global climate change.
There is this unbelievable force of energy that surrounds “Want That” from Dawning that is absolutely mesmerizing.
Embodying the voice of our ad-laced landscape, Want That’s synthesizer-laden chorus whispers to the listener “Tell me if you want that, tell me if you need that, cuz’ it’s all yours, this is all yours, take as much as you can.’ A perfect single for ruminative night-drives through the city, Want That is neither cynical nor optimistic. It merely asks the listener the question: do you want that?
Dawning is the ethereal and translucent work of Aaron Senor. Melding the hooks of pop, dreamlike shoegaze, and elements of electronic dance music. Senor, creates like a master painter , “Want That” is an absolute musical triumph.
Stop whatever you are doing and go get lost in the musical wonderment that is “Want That” from Dawning

Madison shares , When we were working on the album, my producers suggested including a duet, which sent me on a mission to find the perfect partner. I’ve admired Brent for so long, so I took a chance and asked if he’d sing with me—and he said YES! For this track, we chose an outside cut. The writers on this tune are incredible. Todd, one of my producers, brought the song in, mentioning that one of the writers, Abe, was his dear friend. Abe sadly passed away last year before we could release it. The song felt deeply personal, resonating so much with my own love life at the time. We recently had the chance to check out the latest EP “LOUDER/FASTER/SADDER”, via We’re Trying Records, from Nashville skate punks 95COROLLA.
You can listen to “LOUDER/FASTER/SADDER” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here.
On February 4th, 2023, 95COROLLA self-released The Loud Fast Sad EP to all their friends in Nashvilles. It represented the beginning of the band escaping from Kristy Garrett’s laptop and into the world. It was done hastily, and with reckless abandon.
The new EP is louder, faster, and sadder with one more song. LOUDER / FASTER / SADDER is the end of a chapter for the band and an end of a wild year in general.
95COROLLA is a band that is clearly finding their next gear . “LOUDER/FASTER/SADDER “ is a textbook example of a band who is evolving and pushing through to the next level and… it sounds freaking amazing. Reflecting on her inspiration, Caroline shares, “I wrote ‘Born to Want More’ during a time when I was grappling with a series of ‘almosts’—those moments where things felt so close but still just out of reach. This song captures that wits-end feeling where you’re wondering if you’ll ever find what you’re looking for. You’re chasing experiences and feelings that you know exists but you haven’t yet found. It’s something I know all too well.”She adds, “It’s by far one of my more vulnerable songs I’ve released, and it’s one of my favorites for that reason.”
Caroline Romano, effortlessly delivers music that touches both your heart and soul. We are absolutely captivated with “Born To Want More” and we can’t wait to see what she does next.
Her music is a masterful study of being a young woman in today’s world. Her songs are raw, untempered, and full of anguish, hedonism, and introspection. Over the past few years, Caroline has also become well-known for her high-energy live performances, performing at iconic Nashville venues like The Basement East and The End, and supporting Grayscale and Smallpools on their US tour.

We absolutely love the vibe and feel of “Stand So Close” from Pretty Jane . With theatrical vocals and playful synths, it captures the thrill and anxiety of unrequited love. The saxophone solo adds a fun, nostalgic flair, reminiscent of The 1975, while the song’s underlying tension explores the bittersweet ache of wanting someone who seems oblivious. This track is a vibrant exploration of desire wrapped in an infectious sound.
Some songs just make you want get up and dance, “Stand So Close” from Pretty Jane is definitely one of those songs.

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out the latest single “Pretty Boys” from Nashville based alt-pop singer Caroline Romano. You can listen to “Pretty Boys” Here
Caroline Romano, is consistently proving she is a rising force in the alt-pop scene . “Pretty Boys”, follows previous alt-pop gems “Body Bag,” “Doesn’t Matter,” and “Used By You,”
Born from the raw emotions of heartbreak, “Pretty Boys” is both explosive and tender, capturing the duality of love and loss. The track begins with a stripped-back guitar and Caroline’s evocative vocals, building an intimate atmosphere before erupting into a powerful, urgent anthem that mirrors the intensity of heartbreak. As the chorus hits, the song transforms into a dizzying, energetic singalong, capturing the whirlwind of emotions that come with heartache.

“‘Pretty Boys’ is my honest recount of heartbreak,” Caroline shares. “It’s like reading straight from my diary—a dramatic story with a terribly disappointing ending. The song is a cautionary tale about the blurry line between friendship and something more. Just because you’ve kissed him doesn’t mean you should do it again, and just because he looks at you that way doesn’t mean you’re the only one. ‘Pretty Boys’ feels like a high school crush at 22, with all the highs, lows, and semi-committal main characters. It’s a very specific experience, but one that’s universally relatable.”
At just 23-years-old, Nashville-based Caroline Romano has established herself as a versatile artist, effortlessly transitioning between misty-eyed ballads and fiery alt-rock anthems. Since the release of her 2022 debut album, Oddities and Prodigies, and her subsequent 2023 EP, A Brief Epic, Caroline has continued to come into her own as an artist, revealing new layers of her artistry with each release.
Every song from Caroline Romano feels like a piece of brilliantly crafted art and, “Pretty Boys” is no exception. As we put “Pretty Boys” on repeat, we can’t wait to see what Caroline Romano does next.
We recently had the chance to check out the new single “The Difference Between “ from from social justice warrior, proud black woman and LGBTQ+ americana/folk/country singer-songwriter Crys Matthews, featuring Melody Walker and Chris Housman. You can listen to “The Difference Between “ on Spotify Here and Apple Music Here and YouTube Here
We have long said that you can’t fake the truth, Crys Matthews further cements her place as an important voice as she delivers the stunningly brilliant and powerful new single “The Difference Between “ which, features Melody Walker and Crys Matthews .
“The Difference Between”, features three LGBTQ artists, all of whom call Nashville home. Crys Matthews confides, “This is Country too, it looks like you and it looks like me. When I heard Jason Aldean’s “Try That in a Small Town”, I was so offended — not just as a Black woman, but as a proud Southerner. The audacity to think that there would be a South at all without my people is the kind of willful ignorance that keeps folks like me from feeling safe in Country and Americana spaces. There are consequences to that kind of hateful rhetoric.”
She continues , “This is a reclamation not just of the space Black artists have been denied in Country and Americana music, not just of the space LGBTQ people have been denied in communities of faith, not just of the autonomy women have been denied over our own bodies, but a reclamation of the South that raised me.”
A troubadour of truth, Nashville resident Crys Matthews is among the brightest stars of the new generation of social justice music-makers. An award-winning, prolific lyricist and composer, Matthews blends Country, Americana, Folk, Blues, and Bluegrass into a bold, complex performance steeped in traditional melodies punctuated by honest, original lyrics. She is made for these times.
A daughter of the South by way of Nashville now and North Carolina forever, and the self-proclaimed poster child of intersectionality, Matthews is boldly answering those questions on her new album aptly titled Reclamation.
We can’t wait for more music from Crys Matthews in the meantime we will enjoy the beauty of “The Difference Between “ from Crys Matthews featuring Melody Walker and Chris Housman.
Sometimes when you hear certain songs they just hit in a way that stop you dead in your tracks. This is absolutely the case with “Body Bag” from Nashville based alt-pop singer & songwriter Caroline Romano .
We are absolutely mesmerized by “Body Bag” from Caroline Romano.
Produced by and co-written with Danen Reed Rector (Charlotte Sands, Boys Like Girls, Betty Who), “Body Bag” is a song about growing up and coming to terms with the harsh realities of life.
On “Body Bag,”Caroline’s dreamy indie-pop vocals float over a sea of fuzzy guitars, rousing percussion, and sparkling synths. In a similar vein to recent singles like “Doesn’t Matter” and “Used By You,” “Body Bag” is another stunning showcase of Caroline’s ability to transform her raw emotions into anthemic bliss.
“I always had this picture in my mind of who I would be at this age and what my life would look like, and I always thought it would be shiny, fun, sexy, and exhilarating,” says Caroline. “I’ve spent the last few years chasing those feelings, but ‘Body Bag’ is a peak behind the curtain at the reality of modern romance and feeling young and old at the same time. I think sonically the song has so many ups and downs, and that’s exactly how this stage of my life has felt. It’s running barefoot on the concrete, chasing something you can’t quite put your finger on, but running towards it nonetheless. That’s how I would best describe ‘Body Bag.’”

With haunting lyrics that reverberate with honesty and vulnerability, “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” is undoubtedly one of Leah’s most heartfelt singles to date. A dreamscape of sparse piano and minimalist production, her utterly breathtaking vocals take center stage. It’s an evocative and spellbinding reminder of Leah’s artistic breadth.

“I’m a pro at masking my emotions and suppressing my feelings until I can deal with them later,”Leah reveals. “But the thing about emotions is they don’t wait for the most convenient time to bubble to the surface. This song is about surrendering to your mind and acknowledging how you’re feeling. Truthfully, that’s the only way to start the healing process.”
Leah Mason has found her place in pop music and she’s here to stay. The Nashville-based singer-songwriter, who People Magazine heralded as “an undeniable talent,” has captured the hearts and ears of millions since she burst onto the scene in 2021.
Determined to continue pushing the boundaries of her sound, Leah broke away from the familiar last year and ventured to Sweden to work with Simon Jonasson on her debut album, HEXED. After two and a half weeks, she emerged from the studio with a collection of meticulously crafted pop tracks. Across the album’s 12 tracks, she takes the intensity of young adulthood and bottles it up into a selection of universally relatable songs, ranging from tongue-in-cheek, angst-driven anthems to heartfelt musings. HEXED is without a doubt Leah Mason’s most confident, raw and real project to date.
We cannot wait to hear “HEXED” on August 9th because, we think it is going to be pretty special.
Rising indie-rock artist meg elsier reveals her highly-anticipated debut album, spittake, and we think it is positively amazing.
Blending elements of grunge, contemporary pop, folk, and indie-rock, spittake showcases meg’s ability to create dynamic, versatile, and effortlessly catchy music. Across the album’s 11 tracks, she delivers musings on love, death, nostalgia, youth, anxiety, depression and everything in between, with a uniquely self-deprecating touch. “spittake” is one of those magical/ special records that stay within your soul.meg elsier has such a beautiful and unique sound that you can’t help but take notice.
“The story isn’t necessarily linear,”she explains. “But the main connection throughout is this unreliable narrator that you as a listener determine your view/trust of. They are incredibly inconsistent with their statements but I believe they think they’re telling the truth.”
All of the songs on spittakewere solely written and demoed by meg over the last few years. She later collaborated with Nashville-based producer Ryan McFadden to record the final product while still maintaining the DIY spirit of the album as a whole (the lowercase, uncapitalized song titles are a nod to the original demo names).
The delicate balance of noise and music was beautifully blended on “spittake “ – meg elsier delivered an absolutely magnificent vocal performance throughout “spittake”
We loved the tenderness of the title track “spittake” and reveled in the beautiful crunchy noise of “iznotreal” One of the highlight tracks is the single “ifshitfuq” where we feel meg absolutely shines . If we had to pick a favorite track ( which is next to impossible to do ) we would choose “youngestchild” The vocals and melody on “youngestchild” are exactly why we love music- Bravo
Many artists tend to craft an album that is one sided however, on “spittake” meg elsier brilliantly makes each track memorable and unique.
Do yourself a favor and check out the debut album “spittake” from meg elsier it is an absolute can’t miss.

SamVarga’s impressive vocals are on full display on “Up Down”
Sam Varga shows a stroke of song writing genius with “Alive” The Meg Ryan “When Harry Met Sally “ reference is simply amazing!
One of our favorites on “Shadow Work” is “Jim Carey” Varga carefully delivers an absolutely stunningly beautifully written song . ( We were literally hanging on every word )
In our book Sam Varga gets extra credit on “Shadow Work” for including a song with a Harry Potter reference. “Horcrux” is simply otherworldly.
If we had to pick a favorite song ( which on a record this good , is so hard to do ) We would have to go with “Stories We Tell” it is a beautifully written sonically and melodically pleasing song . “Stories We Tell” played out like a diary entry, authentic,personal- perfect !

We recently had the privilege of checking out the new single “Kissing Girls” from Nashville based acclaimed social justice singer-songwriter, Heather Mae.
You can listen to “Kissing Girls” Here and you can also checkout the video below.
Heather Mae beautifully tells her coming out story through the brilliantly written single “Kissing Girls” which is accompanied by a vibrant video as well.
It’s a narrative shared by many queer individuals, especially those from southern, conservative, or religious backgrounds. Mae remembers her first kiss, her first love, her first heartbreak—each with a girl.
She confides, “growing up in church and the evangelical movement, the only representation of LGBTQ+ people that I was familiar with were the kids who got kicked out for being queer. Even though my first crush was on a girl, I hid the truth of what that meant to protect myself from losing my entire community. This is why visibility is profoundly important to me.”
We are absolutely over the moon for “Kissing Girls”, Heather Mae is an important voice with an important and authentic message. We all have a story to tell and Heather Mae tells hers perfectly.
Positioned on the cusp of unveiling her upcoming post-pandemic double record, Mae embarked on a mission to address the stark gender disparity for music producers—a mere 4% representation by women. In 2023, Heather Mae rallied a dynamic collective of women and non-binary talents in Nashville, assembling luminaries like producer ZDAN and Lollies, alongside guest artists such as Grammy award-winning musician Allison Russell and the extraordinary duo Sistastrings.
We started The Whole Kameese back in 2020 as a way to keep busy during the pandemic. We are so lucky to have worked with so many wonderful artists, promoters and other music professionals. We were also so blessed to be able to share so much amazing music . We have made the difficult decision to put the blog on the back burner. At this time we need to focus on other important matters. We do not know how long we will be away but, we will return. We thank all of you for your support
“Klepto” follows the release of “YOUR BOYFRIEND SUCKS,” an empowering anthem that introduced listeners to Leah Mason’s new pop era. Marrying her penchant for introspective storytelling with catchy melodies and uptempo, alt-pop production, “Klepto” is further proof that Leah has found her place in pop.
Leah’s songs capture the essence of what it means to be a twenty-something woman in today’s world. Diving into themes like heartbreak, friendship breakups, love, loss, and everything in-between, she fearlessly explores the highs and lows of young adulthood with a playful yet unflinchingly honest touch.
Speaking on the relatable experience that inspired “Klepto,” she says, “The song is about this friend I had who I noticed started to take a lot of ‘inspiration’ from me. She would subtly ask me about where my clothes were from, and the next week she’d show up in the same thing I had been wearing. It was flattering at first, but she eventually started messing around with the people in my life, like talking to guys she knew I liked and inviting my friends to hang out without me. It was like she wanted my life. It was so frustrating because it felt like she would try to take everything I told her about. She was a goddamn klepto!”
“Klepto” from Leah Mason is a well crafted song that features flawless vocals and addictive melodies. Leah Mason is most definitely firing on all cylinders with “Klepto” and we love it .

We have always loved the music and vibe of Jeffrey James, however, “Day By Day” has that little something extra that you can’t exactly put your finger on it but, you know it when you hear it. We definitely heard “it” on “Day by Day”
Over the past few years, Jeffrey James has captivated the hearts of millions with his soulful and introspective sound and his rich, velvety vocals. For his new single, “Day by Day,”Jeffrey worked with John Davidson and Jacob Bryant, the lead singer and lead guitarist of the indie-rock band The Brummies. Merging Jeffrey’s soulful pop stylings with John and Jacob’s indie sensibilities, the trio created an irresistibly catchy, genre-blending anthem with “Day by Day.”
“The song is based on my own experience of growing and learning about life and love alongside my wife,” Jeffrey shares. “It hasn’t always been perfect or easy, but there is nothing better than knowing you have a partner who is by your side and ready to take on whatever comes next.”

Over the course of her last few singles – “girl in a china shop,” “Tell Her I Said Hi” and “Used by You” – Caroline has unveiled a bolder sound ( Which , we absolutely love) that blends her pop sensibilities with dynamic alt-rock instrumentation. But, as her sound continues to naturally evolve, her authentic storytelling never waivers. On “Used by You,” Caroline tells a relatable tale of unrequited love, set to a backdrop of melodic guitars and anthemic percussion.
“If I had to describe ‘Used by You’ in one word, I think that word would be brutal,”says Caroline. “It’s unabashedly honest, blunt, and real. It’s a song about the side effects of unrequited admiration. It’s about loving someone to the point that you’re willing to move mountains for them, even when they’re not willing to move an inch for you. It’s the fear of losing someone so much, that’s you’d rather lose yourself just to keep them. In the name of being honest, no matter how terrifying, this is ‘Used by You.’”

“YOUR BOYFRIEND SUCKS” marks a new era for Leah as she breaks away from her country roots and embraces a more pop-leaning sound. On her inaugural pop release, Leah collaborated with songwriter Sara Bares and songwriter/producer Simon Jonasson (Summer Walker, HWASA, Alan Walker) to create a catchy and relatable anthem that celebrates the importance of honest and empowering female friendships.
Leah elaborates on the inspiration behind the new song: “I have this stunning, gorgeous, smart, outgoing, funny as hell friend that had been seeing this guy for a few months, and it felt like every week I heard her tell me the most awful stories about how he treated her. I was always so confused as to WHAT her infatuation with him was because he… sucked! She is THE best person and friend and she deserves to be treated that way! The song is brutally honest but I believe it’s for the better because that’s what a real friend does.”
Hailing from North Carolina and now based in Nashville, Leah Marie Mason’s sound knows no bounds. Her musical journey began at eleven, belting out iconic covers in a classic rock band. When she found her way to Nashville in 2019 to attend Belmont University, she soaked in the city’s diverse music scene and quickly emerged as a rising star in the country-pop world. Her 2023 debut EP, Honeydew & Hennessy, garnered millions of streams and drew comparisons by PEOPLE Magazine to contemporaries like Taylor Swift, Kelsea Ballerini, and Kacey Musgraves.
Breaking away from the familiar, Leah ventured to Sweden last year to create her upcoming album, pushing the boundaries of her artistry and crafting a whole new sound. While undertaking this shift, Leah has still maintained her unique penchant for raw and vulnerable storytelling.

Some time this past summer we were listening to music late one night and seemingly out of nowhere we heard absolute magic.
What we heard was the absolutely stunning single “Blue” from heavy melodic indie Nashville based duo Friendship Commanders . After doing some research we discovered, that “Blue” was part of a new concept album from Friendship Commanders titled “Mass”
According to the duo ( Buick Audra, vocalist, guitarist , primary songwriter and Jerry Roe, drummer and bassist on the recordings ) , “Mass” a is concept record about memory, language, and the state of Massachusetts. The album was co-produced, engineered, and mixed by Kurt Ballou at his Salem, MA studio, GodCity. In addition to the phenomenal album , it is accompanied by a memoir in essays by Buick Audra.
We listen to a lot of music ( We are a music blog , it’s what we do) but, “Mass” from Friendship Commanders , is different .
From the moment you hear the first note on “Blue” down to the last word spoken in“Dissonance “ it is crystal clear that Friendship Commanders have given music lovers everywhere an absolute gift with “Mass”
The overall sound and tone on “Mass” is simply breathtaking, “Fail” and “High Sun “ are both beautifully constructed tracks that are tremendous showcases for both the incredible sound and vibe of Friendship Commanders and the flawless and captivating vocals of Buick Audra .

The musicianship between BuickAudra and Jerry Roe is simply next level, this is on full display on “Vampire “ which we may have sang along with long after the music ended .
If you are a lover of lyrics like we are , “Mass” is a lyrical masterpiece. Primary songwriter Buick Audra has crafted well written lyrics that speak to both the mind and soul. It takes courage to share deep personal stories, Buick Audra has done this absolutely perfectly.
“Mass” from Friendship Commanders is a brilliant body of work that cannot be missed .
We are so excited to bring you our 3rd ArtistOf The Day for 2024 – Nashville based indie rock duo Friendship Commanders, they have recently released epic concept record “Mass” .
We recently caught up with the duo ( Buick Adura, songwriter, vocalist and drummer/bassist Jerry Roe to talk about all things Friendship Commanders and of course all about “Mass” You can listen to “Mass”Here
The Whole Kameese: First off, we are so excited to get the chance to talk about your wonderful album “MASS.”
Buick Audra: Thank you so much! We appreciate you taking the time to talk about our new work!
The Whole Kameese: Can you introduce yourselves and your roles in the band?
Buick Audra: Hello, I’m Buick Audra, the vocalist, guitarist, and primary songwriter in Friendship Commanders.
Jerry Roe: Jerry Roe, and I play drums! I also play bass on our recordings.
The Whole Kameese: Your latest album “MASS” is a well-written and beautifully crafted body of work. Can you talk about the concept of the album?
Buick Audra: Thank you! The album is about my time as a teen and younger adult living in the Boston area. I had some experiences there during that timeframe that were intense and formative, but after I moved away from the area, I packed those memories up and put them away for a long time. When my friend Marc Orleans died, I started to remember my time there. He and I became friends when we were both part of the extended Boston music community and then we remained in touch after we both left. But his suicide took me right back to those days, and when I reviewed my experiences there through my current lens, they looked wild. So, I wrote a whole album about it. Ultimately, the record is about returning to what once almost took you down and being able to name the things that happened. Bullying, abuse, silence, complicity, loss, etc. I felt strongly about opening the album with BLUE because it has a message of hope, of survival, of living to tell. I think the thesis of the album is contained within the lyrical phrase, “If you don’t yet have the language for what you want to say, you will.”
The Whole Kameese: How was the writing process for “MASS”? Did it take a lot of time, or did it quickly come together?
Buick Audra: So, the first two songs I wrote for the record were A RETRACTION and FAIL, and they each unfolded kind of slowly, like over a couple of weeks. I tend to be a quick songwriter, usually completing a song in one sitting, so for it to take multiple days or weeks is uncommon. But those two songs took a while, and as they were coming to me, I became aware that I was writing about my time in Massachusetts. I leaned into that, and the rest of the album was written over a very short period of time. Less than two months total. The process involved a lot of listening to myself; remembering things I had long forgotten; grieving people, places, and things; and letting the music be whatever it wanted to be at first. Also, I tuned my guitars to four different tunings to give my ear some different options and not be stuck in riff or progression ruts. That benefited the writing process greatly.
The Whole Kameese: The album was recorded at God City in Salem, MA (which is right down the street from us) with Kurt Ballou. What was it like working with Kurt at God City in Salem?
Buick Audra: It was productive and fun! We had worked with Kurt as a mix engineer on several projects before we went up to Salem and tracked MASS with him, so we already had some professional and personal camaraderie. But the workflow was good, the vibe was easy, and we were thrilled with the results. He’s the dude.
Jerry Roe: Truly, it was fun, comfortable, and honestly very easy! He created an environment in which we could work with ease and challenged us in all the right ways. I greatly appreciated how much he cared about exploring tones and making sure we were getting all the sounds exactly right and how they should be. That doesn’t tend to happen all the time, and I feel like that’s one of the primary reasons why you’d ever want to record with someone else (versus doing it yourself). He’s the best at it, I think.
The Whole Kameese: Did the city of Salem influence the record at all?
Buick Audra: Not really, but it was a peaceful, safe place to make the record for sure. None of my history with Massachusetts took place in Salem, so it was a respite of sorts. Neutral ground. Loved it, can’t wait to return!
The Whole Kameese: For someone who has never heardFriendship Commanders, how would you describe your sound?
Buick Audra: I tend to say we make melodic heavy music, but if I were to put a finer point on it, I’d say it’s very heavy grunge with pop sensibilities and soulful vocals.
Jerry Roe: I guess I would say we’re sort of a sludgy doom grunge rock band with a big emphasis on songs and song structure.
The Whole Kameese: The album is accompanied by a memoir. Did the memoir come first or was it something that developed while recording?
Buick Audra: I wrote the album first, and then the memoir. The book is there to expand on the story contained within the music.Because the album is autobiographical, it seemed like a natural thing to go into more detail in prose. It was a lot of work to render both, but I’m so glad they exist as a set.
The Whole Kameese: How has it been playing the songs from “MASS” live? Is there a particular song that really stands out when playing live?
Buick Audra: I’ve loved playing the new work live; we toured for almost two months after the album came out last year, and it was so refreshing and empowering to perform the new songs I love all of them, but FAIL is intense for me to play because I wrote it about the death of my friend Marc. Musically, it’s a beast to pull off, but emotionally, it holds so much sentiment and truth for me. And every time we play it, I get to say, “For Marc Orleans.” Feels good to say his name. BLUE is a gift every night, no question.
Jerry Roe: BLUE really feels like an important stake in the ground, and a mission statement of sorts. We’ve been closing our shows with it, and it feels triumphant and heavy as hell all at the same time. Kind of like a big reward at the end of a 45-minute marathon. It’s wonderful to play.

The Whole Kameese: What is next for Friendship Commanders in 2024???
Buick Audra: We’re doing some more touring on MASS, we’re working on some new work that I’ve been writing, and we’re working toward getting the next body of songs together!
The Whole Kameese: Thank you so much for talking with us at The Whole Kameese, today. We hope that 2024 is an amazing year for Friendship Commanders.
Buick Audra: Thank you! Really appreciate your time and attention. Hope your year kicks ass
We were absolutely beyond delighted to check out the new single “Breakup Songs” from Nashville based power pop band The Dreaded Laramie … But wait there’s more!!!
Today The Dreaded Laramie announce that they are joining the Smartpunk Records roster with the release of their latest single “Breakup Songs.” (Cue confetti here)
You can listen to “Breakup Songs” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here
The track is a glittery showcase of the band’s femme power pop balanced with grittier rock nuances. VocalistMC Cunningham wears her heart on her sleeve with melodic moments and brutally honest lyrics about moving on from a bad breakup. This single marks the first release under Smartpunk Records with more gender-bending punk-tinged indie rock tunes en route in 2024.
Vocalist MC Cunningham explains “To try to capture where I was at moving forward from the breakup, I wanted to write a song that, stylistically, I would’ve been embarrassed to show my ex while we were together. I am super proud of the result, though. It is a song that feels and sounds like emotional liberation to me.”
The Dreaded Laramie has a sound and vibe that you simply cannot resist. We found ourselves blissfully singing along to “Breakup Songs” almost instantly.
They recorded their forthcoming debut LP with producer/mixer/engineer Dave Schiffman (PUP, Weezer, Vampire Weekend). The new record comes on the tail of their 2022 EP, “Everything A Girl Could Ask” (produced and co-written by Rozwell Kid’s Adam Meisterhans), which Punk News described as “gender-bending… marbled with sickly sweet, hyper-feminine vocals encapsulated by indie rock tinged boppy pogo punk and sprinkled with sudden moments of very macho displays of musicianship.” In 2023, The Dreaded Laramie conquered a 60-city tour across North America, joining festival lineups from Gainesville’s Fest to Montreal’s Pouzza Fest, and sharing stages with the likes of Soccer Mommy, Bad Moves, Rozwell Kid, and Tsunami Bomb.
We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out the new single “Tell Her I Said Hi”from Nashville-based alt-pop sensation Caroline Romano.
You can listen to “Tell Her I Say Hi” on Spotify Here and on Apple MusicHere
“Tell Her I Said Hi” is a cathartic release of anger packaged into a wholly addictive alt-rock anthem. Equal parts tender and tenacious, Caroline bravely navigates the messy emotions that arise after a transformative heartbreak.
“‘Tell Her I Said Hi’ is me closing the final chapter on a particular heartbreak I’ve been writing about for a while,” she explains. “I wrote this song after finding out he had already moved on with someone else just days after we broke up. I was thinking about it nonstop, playing out different scenarios in my head about what I’d say to him if I ever saw him again, and ‘tell her I said hi’ is the line that came to mind. There’s a finality to that sentence that’s both heartbreaking and cathartic. The song itself is jealous, angry, pretty, and exhausting, all at once, much like the ending of our relationship.”
We are once again in complete awe of Caroline Romano, she continues to deliver breathtaking music . “Tell Her I said Hi “ is a well written alt pop gem.
We recently had the opportunity to check out the new single “Helium Balloons “ from Nashville based rising indie-pop singer-songwriter Zach Seabaugh .
You can listen to “Helium Balloons on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here
Seabaugh lightheartedly calls his music ‘moody music’ – a cross between singer/songwriter and pop from the relatable perspective of a 24-year-old navigating the complexities of young adulthood.
We love the tone and vibe of “Helium Balloons” from Zach Seabaugh. Zach is a gifted storyteller who writes songs that are both relatable and authentic and, his latest “Helium Balloons “ is no exception.
“Helium Balloons” has a melody that you just can’t escape. Like a runaway balloon heading skyward, Zach Seabaugh continues to soar to new heights with every new song he crafts .
Find a great spot and float away while listening to “Helium Balloons , from Zach Seabaugh
For reasons we have never really have been able to figure out , certain songs just hit different. You hear a song for the first time and instantly connect with it . We definitely felt with the new single “Girl In A China Shop” from Nashville-based alt-pop sensation Caroline Romano.
The first thing we couldn’t help but notice on “Girl In China Shop” is that it is lyrically brilliant. Caroline Romano effortlessly weaves in and out of song with perfectly placed words , that will literally take your breath away.
“I often feel like I break everything I touch. I’ve come to view myself as one major juxtaposition,” saysCaroline. “One thing I’ve learned is that as life moves on, things get broken in the process. Whether it’s relationships, or my own heart, I’ve come to realize that it’s all too easy to shatter either one by my own hand. At times it’s left me feeling uncomfortable in my own skin and with my own footing. ‘girl in a china shop is my attempt at acknowledging that, in a way that summarizes the chaotic feeling that is navigating myself and other’s emotions.”
At just 22-years-old, the Nashville-based singer and songwriter has repeatedly demonstrated her ability to create anthems that capture the highs and lows of young adulthood. She memorializes her messy, relatable emotions into buoyant, unflinchingly honest songs.
We feel fortunate to be able to experience the incredible music of Caroline Romano . Every song is a melodic work of art and “Girl In A China Shop” is no exception.
We can’t wait to see what Caroline Romano does next .
We recently had the phenomenal opportunity to check out Nashville based singer songwriter Kenzie Cait and her amazing new EP “innocence”
You can listen to “innocence” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here
We listen to a lot of music here at The Whole Kameese (we’re a music blog it’s what we do) but, every now and then we get stopped dead in our tracks from an artist who absolutely blows us away . Kenzie Cait is absolutely one of those artists.
Kenzie Cait makes the kind of music that prompts the listener to think, “How did she put what I’m feeling into words?” As a guitarist and writer who was told she began humming melodies before she could speak, music is truly embedded into Kenzie Cait’s DNA. With more and more people clamoring for music in the vein of Lizzy McAlpine, Olivia Rodrigo, and the blueprint of Taylor Swift, Kenzie has arrived just in time.
However,we think that while Kenzie Cait may have a similar sound like the artist above, We think she has a unique style and sound that is all her own .
She’s an artist who wants to reach people with her music however she can, whether it be through live shows or social media, and is making waves with recordings like the dreamy, urgent, and deeply honest “that girl” in the meantime
We fell head over heels for the EP, right from the first track which is brilliantly written title track “innocence” Kenzie writes songs that you can’t help but connect with. On “that girl” we get a real feel for how stunning Kenzie’s voice really is
“innocence” is an Ep that is solid top to bottom. However, our favorite track on the EP is “the worst part “ this is Kenzie Cait at her absolute best .
Above all, Kenzie Cait wants people to feel heard: “When people listen to my music, I want them to know that dramatic emotions are okay, and that they should have grace with themselves. I hope they know it’s ok to react to moments in life in a natural way.” Kenzie Cait makes music to be shared, whether in the form of a live concert or a friend DMing a streaming link. Her music has a communal sense of understanding to it, paramount to Kenzie’s vision for her artistry going forward. She’s a fan’s fan through and through; she herself has spent her life loving those who inspire her. Now, she’s ready to step into the spotlight herself.
Do yourself and check out Kenzie Cait and her new EP “innocence “ it will make your heart and ears very happy.
So we have a routine here at The Whole Kameese, after getting everyone to where they need to be in the morning, we put on some coffee and whatever music we are reviewing for the day . Sometimes we get so caught up in getting coffee and breakfast, that the music kind of lingers in the background. However, this was not the case when we put “The Real Me “ from Jeffery James on .
“The Real Me” from Jeffery James is pure musical magic. We were stopped dead in our tracks. People say there are certain songs that hit different…. This is one of those songs
Produced by David Burris (ITZY, Lauren Spencer Smith, Gryffin, MOTHICA), “The Real Me” unfolds in a dynamic arrangement of lush guitar work and nostalgic production, laying the perfect foundation for Jeffrey’s soulful vocals to shine. Elaborating on the track’s meaning, Jeffreys writes, “‘The Real Me’ is about wanting to be heard and seen for who I truly am at my core, and finding someone who does that.”
Pairing rich vocals, R&B influences and reflective lyricism, Jeffrey creates svelte, brooding tracks that express universal emotions. Since making his debut in 2016, he’s amassed millions of streams across his repertoire, received praise from tastemakers like Billboard and 1883 Magazine, and had his music featured in numerous TV shows and films. In Spring 2022, Jeffrey’s collaboration with Grammy Award-winning DJ, Dave Audé, climbed to number 5 on the UK dance charts. Over the course of his singles, collaborations and EPs, Jeffrey has continued to explore his sound, emerging as an exciting force in the contemporary pop space.
