We recently had the extraordinary opportunity to check out the new EP, “Surefire” via Lauren Records, from San Jose-based maximalist Emo band  SUPERWORLD. You can listen to “Surefire” Here.

“Surefire” from SUPERWORLD, is 9 minutes of some of the most explosive music we have heard in a long time. Melodic, Powerful, Authentic, and Emotional. SUPERWORLD is absolutely phenomenal.

Featuring members of Spy, Leer, and Stickup Kid, SUPERWORLD mix hi-energy screamo with the likes of math-rockers like Duck, Little Brother Duck and Covet. As longtime members of the San Jose scene, they cite everything from DIY bands like Matsuri and Shinobu to jazz fusion legends like Casiopea as influences, but ultimately pulse to a beat all their own.

The energy and unique vibe coming from SUPERWORLD, is truly electrifying and special. From the moment we heard the first chord on opening track “Surefire” we knew we were in the presence of musical greatness. SUPERWORLD , is able to lay down some of the most tasteful riffs we have ever heard … Then they effortlessly bring a thunderous amount of power and emotion.

The impressive, “Dark Upper” is quickly becoming our new favorite song. We can neither confirm or deny that we may have sung along while in line at our local bank.

The closing track ,”Eraser” literally gave us goosebumps. The musicianship in SUPERWORLD, is next level and it is on full display on “Eraser”

SUPERWORLD is playing  GROWING UP IS DUMB festival in Los Angeles this Saturday, April 5,

Tell your friends, tell the world !!! SUPERWORLD is a band you cannot ignore.

Star 99 Releases Sophomore Album ‘Gaman’ Into The Universe And… It’s Sensational

We are so excited to finally check out the sophomore record “Gaman”, via Lauren Records, from San Jose, Indie punk quintet Star 99, and it is pure indie punk perfection. You can listen to “Gaman” Here

On “Gaman”, Star 99 are firing on all cylinders and you can feel it on the first note on “Kill” all the way through to the last song on the record, the fabulously crafted title track, “Gaman”

On Gaman, Star 99 pulls at heartstrings through 10 bright, nostalgic tracks, seamlessly blending high-energy indie rock with more delicate moments. The album reflects on themes of relationships, resilience, and personal growth while expanding the band’s sonic palette.

We especially enjoyed, “Gray Wall” it’s a song that stood out to us right away and did not disappoint. It’s a stripped down and bittersweet duet between members Saoirse Alesandro and Thomas Calvo over an electronic drum sample. “Gray Wall was written to a beat in one session,” says guitarist and vocalist Calvo. “It’s about the feeling of watching old friends leave for bigger things, and living in a small community where everyone knows everything about everybody.”

Listening to “Gaman” we blissfully basked in the indie punk rock joy that is Star 99. Some of our favorites from the album are , “Simulator” , we adored the vocals and melody , “Pushing Daisy “ and “E-mails were also two tracks that we gave a lot of love to. The one track that is our absolute favorite, is the title track , “Gaman”, we believe it is the closest thing you can get to a perfect song.

Star 99 takes a significant step forward with Gaman, refining their sound with the help of multi-instrumentalist Aidan Delaney, whose addition brings new depth and dimension to their music. The album was recorded and engineered by Grace Coleman at Different Fur Studios in San Francisco and mastered by Andrew Oswald at Paradise Records, capturing a dynamic blend of raw emotion and sonic expansion.

You owe it to your indie-punk soul to check out “Gaman” from Star 99

Following the release of lead single “Kill” last month, “Pushing Daisies” tells a story of a phone call gone wrong over the band’s fuzzed-out driving guitars and hooky melodies. “It’s a song about bad communication and losing faith in people,” says Thomas Calvo.

Pushing Daisies “, from Star 99 is a sonic and melodic dream. Star 99, has created an absolute work of art .

Since forming in 2021, Star 99—formed by four best friends Saoirse Alesandro, Chris Gough, Jeremy Romero, and Thomas Calvo—has come a long way since their humble beginnings. Their debut album, Bitch Unlimited (2023), introduced their high-energy sound to a wider audience, earning praise from outlets like Stereogum, BrooklynVegan, and Consequence.
