Meg Smith’s “Girls Just Wanna Be Famous” Gets a Glittery Upgrade with Molly Grace & MARIS for “Girls Just Wanna Be Famous (er) And.. It Is A Work Of Art

Cover Art – Lauren Nieves

We recently had the phenomenal opportunity, to check out the electrified new version of Meg Smith’s fan-favorite single “Girls Just Wanna Be Famous”, released through Artist House. Meg, has teamed up with fellow pop powerhouses , Molly Grace, and MARIS. And… it is absolutely amazing!!

You can listen to “Girls Just Wanna Be Famous (er) Here

First released earlier this year, “Girls Just Wanna Be Famous” became an underground anthem – a sparkling, theatrical ode to ambition, stardom, and feminine chaos. Now reimagined with Molly and MARIS, the new version takes on fresh life with three bold voices and a shared sense of tongue-in-cheek honesty. It’s maximalist, emotional, and infectious, the kind of pop song that makes you want to laugh and choreograph a performance in your bedroom mirror.

The second we finished writing ‘Girls Just Wanna Be Famous’, I knew I wanted Molly & Maris to feature on the remix,” says Meg. “This song is a love letter to every girl who’s dreamed of their name in lights and I’m so inspired by Molly and Maris’ hard work and talent. We had so much fun working on this remix!

MARIS, the genre-bending pop star known for her glittery synths and cosmic storytelling, wrote and recorded her verse remotely after Meg reached out via Instagram.

“’Girls Just Wanna Be Famous(er)’ feels like both a celebration and a lament for the path of a creative girl who really just wants to connect with people,” MARIS says. “Meg literally just DM’d me on Instagram and asked if I would be down to write a verse, which I was so excited about because I already loved the song so much! I ended up writing a verse in one sitting and recorded the vocals in my home studio. Seeing everything come to life has been so fun and beautiful, and I’m honored to be on a song with such stunning pop icons!! ❤ I am a Meg Smith and Molly Grace stan forever.”

Molly Grace, whose disco-drenched alt-pop and powerhouse vocals have made her one of the genre’s rising stars, delivers a fiery new verse and irresistible energy to the rework. Already a close collaborator of Meg’s, this marks their first official release together.

Alongside the release, Meg also announces she’ll be joining Molly Grace on her upcoming ‘Blush’ Tour as direct support, kicking off October 10 in Chicago, hitting 25 major cities across North America, and wrapping up November 17 in Los Angeles.

Honer had a breakout year in 2024, starting strong with his single “Nowhere Fast” and a powerful duet, “Take Me As I Am,” with Wyatt Flores. He continued to impress with the release of his sophomore album, Fighting For, in June, which showcased his vulnerable songwriting and soothing vocals. The album was so well-received that he later collaborated with Charles Wesley Godwin to reimagine “Mr. Meyers,” a standout track from the album.

As 2024 drew to a close, Honer released his latest EP, Annabelle, which features a mix of new songs and previously released singles such as “Me, Without You,” Lead Role,” and “High School Reunion.” The EP’s narrative, centered around the titular character Annabelle, culminates with “Happy In The End,” a song that encapsulates a whirlwind of emotions about past relationships.

We can’t wait for the spring tour from Evan Honer as well as more amazing music, including the new single “Waiting For It” featuring Michal Leah on Friday, January 10th

The Dollyrots Deliver Beautiful New Video For “Trees Sway”

We recently had our day totally made because we got to check out the new video for “Trees Sway” from one of our absolute favorite bands – The Dollyrots (Kelly Ogden (bass and vocals), Luis Cabezas (guitar and vocals), and Simon Hancock, drums)

You can check out the stunning new video for “Tree’s Sway” below

You can also check out the phenomenal record, where “Tree’s Sway “ is from – “Night Owls” on DSP’s Here

Cabezas shares, I was gifted the song in a dream and woke up abruptly, turned to Kelly and said, ‘Turn your phone audio record on, I’ll be right back.’ I grabbed a guitar and played the whole thing, front to back, complete with lyrics in one go. That became the song, and when she sang it for the record, it took on a life of its own.”

We loved “Trees Sway” from the first time we heard it. We are simply over the moon , that there is now a visual for the track .

The band is set to embark on The Wrapped In The Sunshine Tours, hitting the West Coast in June with Diesel Boy and Go Betty Go on select dates, and East Coast dates in July with The Boreouts and Soraia. The full list of tour dates is below, and tickets are available Here

Ahead of the June shows, the band will be releasing a limited edition 7-inch single on colored vinyl via Wicked Cool Records, featuring two brand new tracks produced by the band and longtime collaborator John Fields (Meet Me At The Altar, Jimmy Eat World, Soul Asylum).

We Are Head Over Heels For The Cocktails Slippers Dreamy New Single “I Still Dream You”

Norway’s The Cocktail Slippers Release New Single “I Still Dream You” (Written, Arranged and Produced By Stevie Van Zandt) On International Women’s Day

We recently had the opportunity to check out the brand new single “I Still Dream You” from Norway’s The Cocktails Slippers .

You can listen to “I Still Dream You” Here

On International Women’s Day (March 8), the formidable Norwegian female rock force known as the Cocktail Slippers, unleashes a new single, “I Still Dream You,” recorded at Renegade Nation studio in NYC, and written, arranged and produced by Stevie Van Zandt. This explosive live band fuses garage rock, punk, and 70s rock, delivering unforgettable and electrifying performances. Following the release, catch them on their USA tour, with stops in SXSW Austin (TX), Phoenix, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and San Francisco.

“I Still Dream You” captures the energy and passion that define Cocktail Slippers’ signature sound. The band’s extraordinary musicianship and undeniable chemistry shine through every note, promising an immersive listening experience that will reverberate with rock enthusiasts worldwide.

Photo: Cato Ingebrigtsen

Cocktail Slippers have been collaborating with Stevie Van Zandt for more than a decade, and it’s not the first time the girls have been in the studio recording music with the famed musician.

We have a close collaboration with Stevie and always send over songs before we go into the studio here in Norway as well. Then we usually spend some time bouncing ideas back and forth before we record,” says Sara (VEGA) Andersson.

This time we got feedback from Stevie that the song we had written was so good that he got inspired and ended up rewriting everything” laughs vocalist Silje (HOPE) Hope.

It was really fun recording songs in Stevie’s studio in New York. Great atmosphere and a lot of hard work! We probably didn’t have more than about 30 minutes breaks any of the days and worked about 16 hours both days,”says drummer Maria (SMASH) Storaas.

Van Zandt recalls, The Cocktail Slippers sent me a song they´d been working on for a while but couldn’t quite unlock its mystery. Every song has one. I dug the sexy vibrations of it and started exploring, intending to just solve the puzzle. But sometimes songs just want to write themselves. I ended up taking it in a different direction and rewrote the whole thing. And really – not because the song wasn´t good enough, you’ll hear great ones all over the album, but because the Cocktail Slippers relentlessly inspire me!”

In anticipation of the March tour the Dollyrots are releasing a lyric video for their emotional ballad “Trees Sway” from their recent album release Night Owls out now

You can listen to “Night Owls” Here

When asked about “Trees Sway,” Cabezas shares, You know how sometimes things come to you in a dream, and you wake up thinking you’ll remember, then instantly forget it? That almost happened with “Trees Sway”. I was gifted the song in a dream and woke up abruptly, turned to Kelly and said, “turn your phone audio recorded on, I’ll be right back.” Grabbed a guitar and played the whole thing, front to back, complete with lyrics in one go. That became the song, and when she sang it for the record it took on a life of its own,”Ogden adds, Trees Sway” about love, loss, and reincarnation. Things we believe in deep down and oftentimes find hard to articulate”.

Remo Drive Deliver Flawless New Indie Pop Album “Mercy”

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out the new album “Mercy” from the long standing project of brothers Erik and Stephen Paulson – Remo Drive Following a six-year run of pristine emo-influenced rock ‘n’ roll records comes Mercy, the band’s fourth album, out today via Epitaph. It’s the band’s most lyric-focused offering to date, a record about reinvention, trusting yourself, and wearing your heart on your sleeve even when it’s painful or vulnerable. And …. It is giving us all the feels .

You can listen to Mercy Here

The origins of Mercy are based on moving apart, with Erik relocating to the sleepy upstate city of Albany, New York as Stephen stayed back in the duo’s native Minnesota. In this new environment, Erik wrote constantly, playing alone in his room and allowing himself to use his music to think existentially about life. He contemplated the complexities of being in a relationship, of making art and having it be received by a wide audience, and the complexities of finding your footing in a new place (inspiring single “New In Town”).

In addition to the physical distance added between them, the new album introduces a major sonic departure from records of Remo past. Less indebted to the emo and pop punk that foregrounded the duo’s career, instead Mercy is invested in thorny, baroque indie pop by way of Father John Misty and Fleet Foxes. The band thrived under the guidance of legendary Seattle-based producer, Phil Ek (The Shins, Band Of Horses) who helped bring their new ideas to life in the span of ten days. “It was refreshing to work with Phil,” says Erik, “It made music feel like how it did when we were younger. He was like fuck it, let’s go, let’s have fun.”

Returning to their respective home studio setups to finish up the album, remote recording sessions were also something new to the brothers who had gotten used to the comfort and convenience of making music in one room. The band cheekily refers to the experience as toggling between their most legit recording environment and their most scrappy, “It’s like going from Michelin Star to the Dollar Store,” jokes Erik. The record also features touring members Dane Folie who plays keys on “Hold You,” and Sam Becht who plays drums throughout. Tim Houston is also on the record, playing pedal steel

In many ways Mercy is a testament to getting in touch with your mental health, deprogramming what you thought you knew about yourself and using music to unlock inner honesty. It lends to some of Remo Drive’s strongest lyrical work yet – proof that they have found their stride making the art they really want to make.

We found ourselves really connecting to “Mercy” from Remo Drive . The authentic feel and sound makes “Mercy” one of those records we will never get tired listening to.
