We recently had the extreme honor to check out Brooklyn based Indie/Emo trio wakelee
We listened to the first three singles of of their debut album that is due spring 2023 . The album was produced by Superbloom’s Brian DiMeglio ( Bartees Strange , Grandad )

The First track our ears feasted on was “Mood Rings” we were immediately drawn into the genius melodic/sonic structure of “Mood Rings . We’re not sure if it was done on purpose but what really stood out for us with Mood Rings was that there seem to be a melodic change throughout song , much like a mood ring changes colors .
wakelee who consist of identical twins Alex (vocal/guitar ) and David Bulmer (drums) and Elliot Shiang ( vocals/ bass) are an impressively tight trio that are flawlessly in sync. Oh did we mention the unbelievable harmonies on “Mood Rings” they really add another dimension to the song
Alex says, “Mood Rings is inspired by the feeling of not knowing how to feel after something bad happens and the general processing of emotions.”
You can checkout “Mood Rings “ on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here you can also check out the video for “Mood Rings “ below

Next up we checked out “Outside “ We were captivated by the overall tone of “Outside “ The song features impeccable vocals that are coupled with a pleasing melodic balance that shows the supreme musical ability of the trio
Commenting on “Outside” “Outside was written from the idea that I often use a nice sunny day to distract myself and to clear my head, but living in New York doesn’t always allow that.”
You can listen to “Outside” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

The final song that we had the pleasure of listening to was “Everything Under The Sun “
You can listen to “Everything Under The Sun on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here
We were absolutely mesmerized by “Everything Under The Sun “ We loved the orchestral feeling in this song . Once thing is crystal clear wakelee are highly skilled melodic architects, such great care is taken in the melodic development of these songs it’s amazing.
Regarding “Everything Under The Sun “ the band had this to say “Everything Under the Sun is about a relationship that slipped away and all the thoughts that swarm when you get a moment to yourself.”
We are beyond impressed with wakelee we think they are going to do great things and we can’t wait to watch . We’re super excited for the debut LP in the spring and we thing you should be too
