Daniel Ellsworth Delivers Greatness with New EP “WHAT”

Last week we checked out the latest single “Flower Underground “ ( Which if your scoring at home we loved it ! ) from prolific songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Daniel Ellsworth Today we get even more Daniel Ellsworth goodness as he releases his new EPWhat” Which is his first fully self-produced, self-mixed solo release.

As we mentioned in our review of “Flower Underground” , we were new to the incredible sounds of Daniel Ellsworth, so with that being said we found the perfect spot to experience “What” in all of it’s glory

The first track “Lost In The Rhythm “ which, was also the first single is an absolute smash .

We loved everything about “Lost In The Rhythm “ , amazing beats and melody and a flawless vocal.

The beauty of Daniel Ellsworth, is that he doesn’t fit neatly in to one certain genre. Daniel Ellsworth is an artist and this is clear all over “What”

On “Blurry” there is this real smooth modern hip hop/soul feeling and it’s brilliant. “Blurry” is about when you are totally into someone and they are your whole world and everything else is a blur .

“Flower Underground “ is a spectacular track

Daniel had this to say about “Flower Underground” “When I first wrote and recorded “Flower Underground”, the working title on the session was “Is This Music?” It was one of the very first things I ever fully produced on my own and I was throwing a ton of paint at the wall (Jazz piano solo in the middle of a pop song? Sure, why not) just to see what would stick. I found this audio sample that had the phrase “Like a flower underground” that I really loved and that led to the stream of consciousness lyrics you hear in the song. I wasn’t sure when I wrote it, but listening to it now I can hear that it’s about the uncertainty of throwing in the towel on my old life and moving to the west coast after 15 years in Nashville. Was I making the right decision? Am I letting people down? But then very quickly learning that it was exactly what I needed to do. It’s about coming out of a heavy darkness into some new light.”

“Operator Emma“ is absolutely mesmerizing we were swept away by the lush melodies of this track . We were reminded very much of David Bowie on this track.

The final track on the EP “I Believe In You “ has this real dreamy vibe to it We loved the simplicity of “I Believe In You “ and the vocals are absolutely mint perfect .

What we believe is that Daniel Ellsworth has crafted an absolutely stunning body of work with his latest EP “What” . So do your ears a favor and check it out !
