Teen Idle Gives Us A World Class New Single With “Norway”

We recently has the distinct honor of checking out the latest single “Norway “ from New Jersey , singer-songwriter Teen Idle aka Sara Abdelbarry

You can listen to “Norway” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

When you hear the word Norway, you think about what it’d be like to hop on a flight to go see the beautiful fjords of the country, or maybe even the northern lights. In Teen Idle’s case, the song title “Norway” represents feelings of being trapped in one’s hometown as an emerging adolescent and needing escapism of some sort.

Norway”, set for streaming release today , August 4 via H1 Massive, is the second single to be released from Teen Idle’s forthcoming album Nonfiction, a largely autobiographical album from songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Sara Abdelbarry that carries forth her musical vision of “emotional rock with a cinematic tendency”. Following the success of the first single “Birthday Cake” which has already played on radio stations like DKFM and made its way onto Spotify’s Fresh Finds Indie editorial playlist, “Norway” isn’t one to miss

“‘Norwayis one of only a few songs I’ve written that aren’t necessarily about my personal life but rather a collective feeling I think a lot of young adults go through,” Abdelbarry says. “This song is, at its core, about growing up and feeling torn about your hometown bubble, not knowing whether you want to stay or move somewhere else, and in general the messy process of trying to find your place in the world (literally and figuratively). I think the lyric, ‘The world is big but there’s no space in New York City or L.A.,’ really touches on this feeling one gets growing up in the suburbs: this idea that it always seems better to move somewhere else, in my case New York City, but once you come back home you realize there’s certain aspects of your hometown that you actually prefer and ones that will always stick with you no matter how hard you try to reinvent yourself or stray from them.

The chorus drives home this idea too,” Abdelbarry says, “When I sing ‘You know that this place is with you until the end of your life.’ If the song lyrics were a plot, I imagine the protagonist being a 28-year-old artist of some sort who’s from the suburbs of the East Coast and moves to L.A. to try to find themselves but ends up moving back home with some corporate job. This song isn’t meant to be cynical, it’s really just about an archetype of a person that I feel like I’ve come to know.”

Some songs stay with you long after the music has faded … “Norway” from Teen Idle is definitely one of those songs . “Norway” is proof positive that Sara Abdelbarry is a bright beacon in today’s musical landscape. “Norway” is a song you’ve been waiting to hear your whole life… you just don’t know it yet .
