The inspiration for “Lasting Effects” came in the wake of a breakup, when Avery was told no one else would love her the way he had. “At the time, I knew he was wrong,” she shares. “But as I got further from the situation, I realized he was right—but not in the way he thought. I realized I don’t ever want someone like him, and I don’t want to be loved like that.” Instead of falling apart, the experience became a turning point, helping Avery rediscover parts of herself that had been quieted during the relationship. “I think it’s a really positive and hopeful song,” she adds. “I hope it inspires people and leaves a positive lasting effect.”
