Adam Sherman Band Delivers Powerful And Compassionate Protest Song , With New Single, “Everyday Dangers”

Designed By Adam Sherman

We recently had the opportunity to check out the new single, “Everyday Dangers”, from Adam Sherman Band. You can listen to “Everyday Dangers” on Spotify Here and Apple Music Here

Great storyteller/ songwriters artfully take everyday disturbances and shed a much needed light on them through music. Boston music mainstay Adam Sherman and the Adam Sherman Band , do this brilliantly with the rousing new Americana/ Rock And Roll, single , “Everyday Dangers”

I guess I’m always hoping for a bit of good news, but lately every day seems to present a new, dire development,” says Sherman. “The song is about trying to maintain our power and integrity during difficult times. It made me realize how much we depend on the decency of others and how vulnerable we are to those who choose not to respect the value of life. As a songwriter, I tried to create a universal story that would convey the fragility of our society at this time.”

The veteran Boston vocalist and guitarist has been crafting a sense of comfort and longing in his music throughout a career that spans decades, from his early work with power-pop luminaries Private Lightning, then with rock and roll yearners The Souls, and now lately through his solo material and output with his band, with which he performs every third Sunday of the month at an ongoing residency at The Plough & Stars in Cambridge. A six-time nominee in the Boston Music Awards, Sherman was just nominated for Performer of the Year in the 2025 New England Music Awards.

And the encompassing “Everyday Dangers,” with its weary soul, magnetic allure, and potent lead guitar, which grabs hold of the listener and takes them along for a sonic joyride that belies the track’s thematic intensity, should keep attention in Sherman’s creative direction.

“Everyday Dangers” feels like a melodic moral compass that feels important and needed .

The follow-up to this past March’s critical lauded Nowhere But Here EP, which earned praise in WBUR, Boston’s NPR, as well as Twangville, Americana UK, and elsewhere, “Everyday Dangers” arrives just ahead of a pair of notable live appearances.

The first comes the day after the new single’s release when Sherman performs at the Earfull Series at The Regattabar in Cambridge on Wednesday, October 29. A night of storytelling from songwriters and authors, the evening also welcomes best-selling novelists Tom Perrotta and Alice Hoffman, as well as indie-folk duo Highway Hoserie.

For tickets and info, go to earfull.org

“I’m honored and very excited to be part of the Earfull Series,” he notes. “Writers read their work and songwriters sing their songs to a respectful, tuned-in audience there to listen. Performing for a listening audience is one of the most satisfying experiences for me as a musician. Lyrics and musical nuance become the center of attention.”

The next comes in January, when he appears at the Which Side?: A Protest Music Teach-Out, a collaborative showcase of varied voices and talents inspired by James Sullivan’s book, Which Side Are You On?: 20th Century American History in 100 Protest Songs, with the event hosted and organized by the respected Boston Globe journalist.

Both events are prime showcases for the messages Sherman is preaching, especially the one that comes to the forefront in “Everyday Dangers,” the first taste of a new album set for release sometime in 2026.

You owe it to your music loving soul to check out “Everyday Dangers” from the Adam Sherman Band.

Dirt Road Souls Deliver Radiantly Epic New Single, “Hold On Soul”

Dirt Road Souls, have composed a sound and vibe, on their latest single, “Hold On Soul”, that will keep your music loving soul happy for days. You can listen to “Hold On Soul” Here

Boston based trio Dirt Road Souls, has “It” You might not know what it is …. But you know “It”, when you hear it…. And, we hear it loud and clear on “Hold On Soul”

Courtesy Of The Band

Acting as a portal to a larger world, “Hold On Soul” and its blend of yearning Americana, country rock, and Southern gothic bring us into Dirt Road Souls’ unfurling tale of (The Life and Times of) Johnny Moonshine, an ambitious 12-track concept album and roots rock opera set for release in early 2026.

Chronicling the rise, fall, and enduring spirit of a small-town rebel with big dreams and a bigger heart, told through the lens of a close friend and narrator, the record follows the mythic arc of Johnny Moonshine — a backroad dreamer, moonshine runner, romantic, and overall tragic figure. It’s a poetic odyssey of freedom, failure, and redemption, all wrapped around an arsenal of memorable hooks and melodic storytelling.

Few new bands would take on something as enterprising and aspiring as (The Life and Times of) Johnny Moonshine to mark their debut album, but Dirt Road Souls – composed of Boston music scene veterans Davis Black (The Inebriations), Rick Weden (Shotgun Waltz), and Brian Sargent (Black Cat Crossing) – felt the time was right to tell the tale.

“‘Hold On Soul’ was first written many years ago when I had left my small town and gone off to start a life in Boston,” Black admits. “After high school and college years I’d often return to my small town to recharge – and get drunk with my friends who didn’t leave town. These lyrics come from the culture shock between the two places. The stress of the city vs. the simplicity of the small town was very real for a little while.”

Heartfelt, authentic and cinematically perfect… We were blissfully hanging on every word on “Hold On Soul” from Dirt Road Souls … and you will be too

Tiberius Issue Final Single, “Painting Of A Tree” From Nov 14th “Troubadour “ LP

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out the new single, “Painting Of A Tree” , from Boston , based “farm “ emo band, Tiberius. You can listen to “Painting Of A Tree” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

There is a real cinematic feel on “Painting Of A Tree” from Tiberius.

Tiberius was originally a solo outing for Rutland, VT-based songwriter Brendan Wright(they/them), with the project growing to a four-piece band upon Wright’s relocation to Boston. This expanded lineup produces a catchy and cacophonous sound that blends Indie Punk, Alt Country and Psychedelia with confessional, conversational lyrics, which they describe as “Farm Emo.”

Following the more frantic Emo Rock sounds of the Sag and Felt singles, and the rustic Poppy warmth of Moab,”this new single is an aching, slow-burning sprawl, which takes a left turn into darker territory. Downtempo instrumental breaks clash with pounding percussion and raw distortion, as Wright exorcises demons through introspective lyrics like “I hope they love you / Like I do / At least the way I wanted to / Not the way I did.”

Speaking on “Painting of a Tree,” Wright shares:

There’s this older man I work with – a kooky gentleman who’s kind of off his rocker – but at the same time can incite this erudite understanding of the human condition. When I asked him if he had any advice for someone really mulling over some heartache, he chuckled. He said, ‘an artist cannot paint a tree, unless they examine all aspects of it.’ I wrote, Painting of a Tree, as an homage to this idea that this kind of hurt was a truly human experience. A kind of pain I wouldn’t wish on anyone, but something that I feel thankful to have experienced. The kind of pain that makes us who we are.” – Brendan Wright (they/them)

We love the vibe of “Painting Of A Tree” and we are anxiously awaiting the release of “Troubadour” on November 14th as well as the upcoming album tour.

The ‘Troubadour’ album is available for pre-order and pre-save. The “Sag,” “Felt,” and “Moab” singles are also available now

Wayward Vines Have Sculpted A Melodic Work Of Art With Their Debut Album, “The Fall”

We recently had the distinct honor and privilege to check out the debut album , “The Fall”, from Boston-based Americana and indie-folk band, Wayward Vine. You can listen to “The Fall” Here

Right from the first note on the opening track “The Fall “ ( which also happens to be the title track) We felt an instant connection to the authentic and heartfelt

Consisting of eight prior singles dating back to last October, including August’s spellbinding “Dancing On Your Basement Floor,” and paired with three new previously-unreleased compositions, The Fall is a declaration of purpose from the project led by Valerie Rachel (vocals, violin, keyboards, Hammond organ, and tambourine) and Greg Lawrence (vocals, guitar, percussion, harmonica), a pair of songwriting partners whose delicate harmonies and gentle rhythms belie lyrical themes of heartbreak, obsession, and the panoramic range of emotions involved in family relationships.

The Fall is not just the title of the album; it’s a snapshot of life, frozen in time. And it reflects something larger for the duo, who balance day jobs, families, and other commitments alongside being in one of Boston’s most exciting new Americana bands.

When you think about the moment when summer shifts to fall, for example, there is often the feeling of being at the edge of a moment when you don’t know what the next moment holds, and that’s often accompanied by melancholy, or sometimes an exciting anticipation,” says Rachel, a classically trained vocalist, violinist, and pianist. “But we also wanted to more broadly incorporate moments of change and evolution as they relate to the feeling of seasons changing.”

She adds: “In choosing The Fall for the title, more than just featuring one of the names of the tracks and a season of the year in which the album happens to be emerging, we thought this was a representation of everything the word can mean that occurs thematically in our songs. The Fall also references a loss of innocence and a shift in mental state, all in one title.”

Subtle references to seasonal themes permeate through the album, where Wayward Vine’s knack for emotionally-driven storytelling and heartfelt narration of life’s tender and most personal moments are soundtracked by a casual encompassing of sound, balancing solemnity and euphoria, that has earned comparisons to The Head and the Heart, 10,000 Maniacs, and The Civil Wars.

Every song on “The Fall” from Wayward Vine, feels like an emotional springboard that settles perfectly into a cornucopia of emotions, that leave the listener full with musical goodness.

The lyrics and theme of the song encapsulate my family’s experience around 2020 and into 2021, when time seemed to go very slowly yet everyone’s emotional experience seemed heightened,” she says. “I found a lot of solace in nature during that time, especially through hours in my backyard where I saw my kids gain a lot of resilience and even though this wasn’t the world or childhood we envisioned for them. I think the melody and lyrics of the song capture both emotional pain and suggest a hopefulness and support system that we as humans need to get through our toughest moments.”

Recorded and mixed by David Minehan at Woolly Mammoth Sound in Waltham, with additional recording, mixing and mastering by Will Holland at Chillhouse Studios in Charlestown, the rest of the album plays out in the same kind of magnetic way. There’s a push and a pull to the music of Wayward Vine, and a certain intimacy in its lyricisms that most new bands generally shy away from.

The one track that really caught our attention, was the closing track, “Imperfect Begins” We were immediately drawn to the phenomenal show stopping melody of , “Imperfect Begins” We were hanging on ever beautiful note and word.

Music is for the soul…. We guarantee that after listening to “The Fall” from Wayward Vine, your music loving soul will be plenty full.

This record abandons the lament of my previous songs and takes more of a ‘get after it’ approach in the lyrics,” Perry admits. “Previous songs were about being in a place, mentally and physically, that I wanted to get out of, and this EP is full of songs just talking about doing it. There are callbacks to how life was, but these songs convey the struggle and desire of getting started and arriving at the place you want to be.”

Till the Well Runs Dry, produced by Brian Charles at Rare Signals in Cambridge, Massachusetts and led by glistening spring single “Count on You” and barnstorming summer banger “Tonight,” is the follow-up to the young band’s well-received 2024 debut EP The Otherside of Everything.

In the time between releases, Nate Perry & Ragged Company – rounded out by Sam DeMello on drums; Connor Milligan on bass and backing vocals; Ollie Nash on keys and backing vocals; and Mike Chandler on lead guitar – have become one of the most talked about bands in the Boston music scene.

Till the Well Runs Dry is a statement to ourselves and our listeners of how far we’ve come and how hard we’ve worked to get this going,” Perry adds. “We feel a real strong momentum from the attention we’ve received so far, and this record is the culmination of our dedication and desire to continue to climb. We know exactly what we want and we feel like we have officially started chasing it.”

Go to your favorite music listening spot and get lost in the musical goodness of “Till The Well Runs Dry “ from Nate Perry & Ragged Company.

Roberta Faceplant Serve Up Stellar New EP, “Brisket & Cigarettes

We had the distinct honor to check out the new EP, “Brisket & Cigarettes “, from Philadelphia, based five-piece Outlaw Americana band, Roberta Faceplant.

You can listen to “Brisket & Cigarettes “ on Spotify, Here, Apple Music, Here

A honky-tonk hurricane from Philadelphia, the five-piece Outlaw Americana band has been called “a cowpunk miracle” by Country Universe and been compared to “Southern Culture on the Skids fronted by Laura Bell Bundy.” It’s Country, but you can hear the City.

Roberta Faceplant, is going to be your new favorite band… you just don’t know it yet.

Roberta Faceplant, is a more than just a phenomenal band , they are a musical experience, “Brisket & Cigarettes “ is exactly why we fell in love with music in first place.

Raucous guitars, a driving rhythm section, and the raw, powerful, and soulful vocals of frontwoman Katie Feeney makes Roberta Faceplant a five-fingered fist of Country grit. Peppered with Bob Seger-style working-man themes and a dose of ZZ Top’s roadhouse rock, “Brisket & Cigarettes” still holds tight to the true spirit of country music – three chords and the truth.

“Brisket & Cigarettes “ will live on in your music loving soul long after the music has faded. And…. If you like tasty guitar licks … well you hit the jackpot with “Brisket & Cigarettes “ , from Roberta Faceplant.

The EP explores the world of opioid-addled scrap metal miners on the song “Big Dark Town,” the album’s stirring, dirge of an opener. It also offers up a giant barbecue of the 1% for a main course in “Eat Em” Roberta Faceplant is pulling no punches, tackling current events with tongue-in-cheek humor and rage. This EP also offers an escape, with tales of longing and adventure. From the South Street lizard-owning barfighter in “Lizard in a Bar” (based on a very true story), to the band’s Scooby Doo-like, cop-evading tomfoolery in “Brisket & Cigarettes,” the local storytelling is pouring out of these tracks. “In a Can,” takes the listener on a lyrical odyssey of love and admiration with unhinged playfulness. The EP finishes in a beautiful crescendo with the fairytale whimsy of “Bottle It, Smash It,” a six-minute Heartland Rock song with a plea for the listener to savor life like there’s no tomorrow – from their lonely small town bars to the big city dancefloor.

“Brisket & Cigarettes “ , from Roberta Faceplant, is an absolute can’t miss.

Our Music Loving Soul Has Been Moved Beyond Measure With The Debut Solo Single, “Kneejerk” From Noah Villeneuve

We need to be clear … listening to the debut solo single , “Kneejerk”, from Canadian-born, Bristol-bred, London-based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Noah Villeneuve is a musical experience that every music lover needs to experience.

You can listen to “Kneejerk” Here

You can watch the video below

Noah Villeneuve, known for his unique brand of melancholic indie-folk, emotive vocal style and achingly honest lyricism.

Villeneuve’s music is marked by a deep vulnerability in his storytelling, crafting melodic earworms and a compelling soundscape that is captivatingly catchy. His acutely introspective yet universally relatable songs blend elements of folk, alt rock, lo-fi pop and emo-americana textures.

With an extensive touring history and many years of experience performing with bands in the UK’s underground music scenes, Villeneuve emerges from a period of quiet, a pause taken to reclaim and focus his personal life, including getting clean and sober, with his first solo project. His forthcoming 2026 album details that journey and the complex lessons learned through intense reflection and personal inventory.

Villeneuve’s writing delves into themes of romanticism, loss, mental health, yearning, memory and self exploration through the lens of codependent modern love. His upcoming debut single ‘Kneejerk’, has been described as ‘beautifully intimate, heartbreaking, mystical, indie-folk brilliance’, reminiscent and clearly inspired by the likes of Cohen, Kozelek, Smith and Berninger.

Describing the lyrical inspiration behind the song, Villeneuve explains, “Have you ever gone through a heartbreak with someone that you shared an arguably unhealthy codependent relationship with? Kneejerk is about grieving those mistakes of the past with a curiosity in the present and hope towards the future. It’s putting a mirror up against some of your wrong footing and acknowledging your flaws. Experiencing deep wonder of where that person is now, what they are doing, and feeling that ‘kneejerk reaction’ to call them or reach out for your phone expecting to see that message that never actually arrives.”

Young Martyrs, featuring , Natalie Brice, reveal Stunning New music video for single ‘Never Gave You The Blues’

We recently had the stellar opportunity to check out the new video for “Never Gave You The Blues, from from Bath (UK), based alt-americana four-piece Young Martyrs featuring Featuring guest vocals from Natalie Brice (Sinnober) You can watch the video for Never Gave You The Blues” below

The track, originally released as a single as part of 2023’s second studio album ‘Time Is Not On Our Side’, fuses delicate rhythms, gorgeous harmonies and soaring country-esque guitar lines to delve into the breakdown of a meaningful relationship.

Discussing the single, vocalist Tom Corneill explains, “Never Gave You The Blues’ is about the breakdown of something beautiful, but he sees it one way and she sees it another. He says if he’d known it was going to hurt them both he would never have started it…but we know that’s not really true. It’s a classic he said / she said story; Not everyone can be telling the truth.”

The video for “Never Gave You The Blues “ from Young Martyrs, featuring Natalie Brice is the perfect cinematic companion to a breathtakingly beautiful song.

Wayward Vine Speak Beautifully From The Heart With Latest Single, “Dancing On Your Basement Floor “

Debut album ‘The Fall’ set for release on September 19

We recently had the magnificent opportunity to check out the glorious new single, “Dancing On Your Basement Floor “ , from Boston indie-folk and Americana band, Wayward Vine. You can listen to “Dancing On Your Basement Floor” Here

We felt an immediate connection with “Dancing On Your Basement Floor “, from Wayward Vine .The words and melodies had us on the edge of our seats as if we were watching cinematic greatness unfold on the silver screen.

“Dancing On Your Basement Floor”, is the latest hypnotic effort from the Boston indie-folk and Americana band, composed of core songwriters Valerie Rachel (harmony vocals and keys) and Greg Lawrence (vocals and acoustic guitar) and a backing band that on this track features Jim St. Pierre on percussion; Boston scene veteran Yoni Gordon on electric guitar; and Jose Downes on bass.

Some songs have a curious way of hanging around long after the music has faded , “Dancing On Your Basement Floor”, is definitely one of those songs .

“‘Dancing On Your Basement Floor’ is the encapsulation of a moment in time that is really beautiful but also short-lived,” says Rachel, a classically trained vocalist, violinist, and pianist. “The story of the song reflects the longing and excitement associated with a newer relationship that isn’t always replicable but usually leaves a mark.”

Lawrence agrees, adding: “It’s about an intense relationship captured at a moment in time where the relationship has come to a crossroads – do we continue and take it to the next level or do we walk away? Like most romantic relationships, there’s a simple and beautiful innocence to it in the beginning before things escalate and become more complicated. At its core, ‘Dancing’ is a pure love song, with notes of desperation, internal conflict, and sexual intensity mixed in for good measure.”

Produced by David Minehan, recorded at Woolly Mammoth Sound in Waltham, and mixed and mastered by Will Holland at Chillhouse Studios in Charlestown, “Dancing On Your Basement Floor” also serves as a compass to Wayward Vine’s debut album, connecting recent releases with new compositions. The long-player will wrangle up the band’s seven prior singles dating back to only last December, including a trio that have emerged so far this year in January’s “History,” March’sImplode,” and May’s “End of May.” Four new tracks round out the album, where snapshots of modern life are filtered through Rachel and Lawrence’s acute songwriting lens.

Don’t leave your music loving heart out in the cold, you owe it to yourself to check out “Dancing On Your Basement Floor “ from Wayward Vine

Tiberius Make Our Music Loving Soul Happy With New Single, “Felt”

We were simply over the moon, to check out the new single, “Felt”, from Boston, based farm-emo band, Tiberius. “Felt”, is the second single from the upcoming , ‘Troubadour,’their label debut album, via Audio Antihero. You can listen to “Felt” on Spotify Here, Apple Music Here

The well constructed backbeat on “Felt”, immediately got our attention. Wright’s vocal performance is an absolute thing of beauty , combined with the well formed melodies. Tiberius, have an instant hit on their hands.

Originally a solo project for Brendan Wright (they/them), Tiberius has evolved into a catchy and cacophonous four-piece,
producing what Wright calls “Farm Emo.” This expanded lineup of Wright, bassist KelvenKPPolite (he/him), drummer Sam
Blumenstiel (he/him), and pedal steel player Pat King (they/them) blends Indie Punk, Alt Country and Psychedelia with
confessional, yet conversational and relatable songwriting.

Commenting on the song, Wright shares:

When I wrote Felt, I was fairly fresh out of a breakup and was spending a lot of time looking for distractions. Instead of tackling
some bigger questions and engaging in a healthy recovery, I was tucking away my feelings into compartments and distracting
myself with casual dating. I was spending some late nights slipping into the backstories of strangers’ lives – exhilarating, but
merely theatrical. It never eased the issue at hand. I was alone, and I was terrified to sit with that.“

Billy Dodge Moody Has Crafted An Instant Classic With New EP, “Ephemera: Part 1”

We recently had the distinct honor to check out the new EP, “Ephemera:Part 1”, from Boston, singer-songwriter, Billy Dodge Moody. You can listen to “Ephemera:Part 1” on Bandcamp Here , Spotify Here, Apple Music Here

Billy Dodge Moody, proves on “Ephemera:Part 1” that he is without question, a true voice of musical importance.

Courtesy Of The Artist

The four-track effort is the first in a series of EPs that will compose his next album, thematically centering around navigating chaos and finding clarity in life. A few months later, Moody takes the record and his magnetic sound to the stage, performing live at The Extended Play Sessions Live From The Fallout Shelter in Norwood on November 15.

Everything on this EP felt like it came from a natural, honest, genuine place in the writing process,” Moody says. “They’re songs I wanted to write, versus what I thought people would like. The themes in the lyrics are pretty universal, so I hope listeners find at least something to connect with.”

Ephemera is Moody’s first extended release since 2022 album Condition, and is led by a pair of singles in May’s cinematic “Meaning to Disaster” and June’s buoyant and summer flavored “Nobody.” Both tracks helped earn the EP a place on WBUR’s Summer Music Preview, billing Ephemera as one of the most-anticipated New England releases this season and noting Moody’s “unbelievable knack for writing folk-pop mini-masterpieces… everything from dramatic chamber folk to appealing sunshine pop…”

The reflective and authentic feel of Ephemera opener, “ Meaning to Disaster” is Billy Dodge Moody at his absolute best , melodically perfect with a vocal performance that you can feel deep in your soul.

“Nobody” has a upbeat/ summer chill feel with indie pop elements , but also explores darker themes, its lyrics warn the listener about how we’re all dealing with internal struggles, and no one really understands what we’re all privately facing each day.

The two new tracks that round out the EP, are beautifully crafted songs that both eloquently show the breathtaking artistry of Billy Dodge Moody.

“Made to Decide,” with backing vocals from Hannah Foxman adding to the aching harmony, centers around making difficult choices, inspired by an ailing pet – his cat Bruce – who became gravely ill, and passed away a day before his euthanasia appointment after Moody and his wife spent weeks painstakingly mulling the decision.

“The title is a bit of a double entendre in that ‘made’ refers to both being, and feeling, forced to choose between two shitty options, and that life in general is decision-making and how the oftentimes difficult choices we make shape who we are and who we’ll become,” Moody admits. “Part of the song is also about that where there are people, pets, and things that come into our lives that we never intended to fall for or develop such a deep connection to. The song was also used as a vessel to talk about other divisive aspects of life that others value and oppose like faith, ideology and overall perspective of mortality.”

The Ep closes with stunningly melodically perfect “Suddenly” , filled beautifully with heartfelt emotion, “Suddenly” left us absolutely speechless , as Moody, reflects on his position as a musician, and explores the highs and lows – and more lows – of being an independent creative at a time when art is seemingly not valued by those who consume it.

It’s mostly about the struggle and perseverance of an artist,” he adds, “maintaining hope and realizing things change when you least expect it, especially when you feel like you’ve been spinning your wheels on something that never comes to any sort of resolution or catharsis.”

Ephemera was produced by Brian Charles, who engineered the EP over several sessions alongside co-producer and engineer Annie Hoffman. Recording the EP began at Guilford Sound up in Vermont, and then completed closer to home at Charles’ freshly-minted Rare Signals studio in Cambridge, Massachusetts

For these songs, the vocalist, guitarist, and keyboardist Moody was joined in-studio by Sam Bouve on bass; Parker Goessling on guitar; Tyler Simko on keyboards; Jon Chapman on drums; and the aforementioned Foxman on backup vocals. And Charles led the way.

“Ephemera: Part 1”, from Billy Dodge Moody is the kind of record that feels timeless the first time you listen to it.

Kier Byrnes & The Kettle Burners Continue To Impress With Sensational New EP, “Dances By Firelight”

We recently had the delightful opportunity, to check out the stunning new EP, “Dances By Firelight, from high-octane Boston-based Americana band, Kier Byrnes & The Kettle Burners. You can listen to “Dances By Firelight “ on Spotify Here , Apple Music Here Kier Byrnes & The Kettle Burners, have a boundless energy that is in full view on “Dances By Firelight” .

Earlier this spring, the Boston-based Americana band and its face-melting accordion and chicken pickin’ electric guitar stylings released a new EP in April’s Before The Fall, coming fresh off a sprint of seven live shows in five days, culminating with a wild 10-hour marathon set on St. Patrick’s Day.

Now, the sextet is set to release an immediate follow-up in Dances With Firelight, a spirited EP that arrives today, (Friday, June 27) – just ahead of the release show at the 14-band New England Americana Festival the next day at Bellforge Arts Center, where Kier Byrnes & The Kettle Burners headline. Right after that, the band sets off on a whirlwind tour of The Netherlands and Belgium from July 3 to 13, playing 14 shows in 14 days.

A constant stream of live shows and this barrage of new releases – including March’s In The Key of Guinness EP of traditional Irish music – are all part of the Kettle Burners’ ethos, the type of band that one listens to all day at home or at work before going raising a glass with the band at one of their raucous live shows at night (or heck, even at a matinée).

If we didn’t think it was going to be fun, we wouldn’t be doing it,” Byrnes says with a laugh. “The best moments are when we connect with a crowd. When we play a show, nothing invigorates us more than when our music connects with someone.”

The opening track, “Little Bit More, Little Bit Less” , is the perfect opening track, had us on our feet almost immediately.

The hypnotic groove of ,”Don’t Let Perfect “ is absolutely otherworldly and shows off the next level musicianship of the band .

We enjoyed“Further Down the Road,” and its scratchy guitarwork adding to the intensity and intrigue, takes the band into the world of chain gangs, marriage, the church, truckers – and what Byrnes calls “all of life’s little mysteries, I guess… we never really know when the road will end, or how it ends.” That track, along with “Little Bit More, Little Bit Less,” feature gang vocals by Joe Pleiman, Pete Nersesian, Shane O’Neill, and Elisa Smith

The EP closes out with a pair of inspired covers, a hymnal-like rendition of Sturgill Simpson’s “Turtles All the Way Down” that glows with a weathered bravado; and a riveting romp through Billy Strings’ “Dust in a Baggie,” which sonically connects the EP back to opener “Little But More, Little Bit Less,” creating an infinite loop where the record plays on repeat with a natural flow.

There is a one of a kind joy and wonderment that absolutely shines on “Dances By Firelight” from Kier Byrnes & The Kettle Burners that is special and truly inspiring.

Get Ready To Sing Your Heart Out On The Powerful New Single, “Tonight” , From Nate Perry & Ragged Company

Nate Perry & Ragged Company deliver an absolutely blazing new single, “Tonight” and we can’t stop singing and dancing along. You can listen to “Tonight” Here .

It has been an absolute whirlwind for Nate Perry & Ragged Company, as of late .Boston Calling, over Memorial Day weekend, where they showcased several songs from a pair of EPs: last spring’s debut The Otherside of Everything, and the forthcoming Till The Well Runs Dry. They were also featured on WCVB’s Chronicle and CBS Boston /  WBZ-TV’s Road To Boston Calling special.

Now they offer up the electrifying new single, “Tonight” Not only does “Tonight” lead off Nate Perry & Ragged Company’s new EP, set for release this summer, but it provides a slightly more aggressive feel than euphoric May single “Count on You”

Continuing to showcase the Boston collective’s blossoming spectrum of country- and roots-tinged alternative rock, “Tonight” cranks up the bluesy intensity and revs the band’s creative engine, with enough energy to appeal to the rock and roll scene and just enough twang to keep the Americana crowd honest.

“It was a fun song to write and it’s a fun song to play,” says vocalist, guitarist, and band leader Perry. “The creativity that went into the whole song really illustrates how much we’ve been cooking lately. This song is a reminder that this band can blow the roof of the building. It pulls us away from the traditional sound of Americana and towards a harder alt-rock sound while providing the raw rock and roll emotion that we’ve always delivered.”

“Tonight” is precisely the perfect musical jolt to send your summer into high gear. The next level musicianship from Nate Perry& Ragged Company , rises to the occasion to provide an absolute gem that will continue to shine long after the music fades .

“Tonight” has also emerged as a live favorite, just as the young band embraces a series of summer gigs. The first arrives a day after the release of “Tonight,” at the 2025 New England Americana Festival on June 28 at Bellforge Arts Center in Medfield, an all-day, outside, and free 14-band collection of New England’s rising talent.

From there, the itinerary takes Nate Perry and the boys all around Massachusetts for the summer, performing live at the Veterans Rock Music Festival in Hyannis on July 19; the Bradford Common Music Series in Haverhill on July 31; Lobsterfest in Beverly on August 6; Levitate Backyard in Marshfield on August 23; and The Cut in Gloucester on September 20

Perry and the band – rounded out by Sam DeMello on drums; Connor Milligan on bass and backing vocals; Ollie Nash on keys and backing vocals; and Mike Chandler on lead guitar – get fired up every time “Tonight” comes up on the setlist.

“It’s a blast,” he admits. “As soon as the count for the intro starts, we all get a shot of adrenaline and for the next few minutes the band runs wild. It comes out of the gate at full speed. It’s maybe our highest-energy song and the emotions behind it are unique to the rest of our work.”

Whether live or on the recording, “Tonight,” which was produced by Brian Charles at Rare Signals in Cambridge, Massachusetts, tends to catch the listener by surprise and manages to hold interest through its nearly-four-minute duration, as an impassioned Perry unleashes his emotions as they roar out of the speakers.

Nate Perry & Ragged Company, are a musical tour de force that can’t be ignored. “Tonight” is an absolute gem.

Young Martyrs Reveal Magnificent New Single, “Everyone Else Disappears “

We recently had the spectacular opportunity to check out the new single, “Everyone Else Disappears “, from Bath-based alt-americana four-piece Young Martyrs. You can listen to “Everyone Else Disappears” on Spotify Here, Apple Music Here

You can also check out the video below

We are absolutely smitten with the latest single, Everyone Else Disappears” , from Young Martyrs. There is a real honest authentic vibe from the track that leaped from the speakers in to our music loving soul.

Formed in 2020, Young Martyrs released their debut self-titled album that year. Their coinciding debut headline tour saw them sell out shows throughout the UK, which led to them sharing the stage with the likes of Badly Drawn Boy, The Hooziers and McFly, as well as playing slots at a variety of festivals including Glastonbury and Rock Oyster. Their second album Time Is Not On Our Side’ was released in 2023, expanding their fanbase beyond the UK and saw them playing shows across New York City.

Everyone Else Disappears’ was produced with Sebastian Brice (Indefra Studios) at Real World Studios with additional recording by Ed Oleszko at Vintage Tone Factory. The track combines introspective lyrics and nostalgia-laden melodies, lyrically delving into the feelings surrounding unrequited love.

On the track’s subject matter, vocalist Tom Corneill explains, These are the words of someone who’s been looking at the object of their affection for too long and from too far away. He wants to know what life would look like if they shared it, but it’s a dream that’s just too far away; Too many rules, too many people in the way. This is the song that spills out of him when it’s becoming too much. It’s the life you could have if only that person knew what was happening inside your head.”

Everyone is always asking us for new music recommendations. We highly recommend “Everyone Else Disappears “ from Young Martyrs.

Billy Dodge Moody , Proves He Is Somebody You Need To Know With Latest Single, “Nobody “

We first fell in love with musical goodness of Boston, based singer-songwriter, Billy Dodge Moody, back in May, with his single, ‘Meaning To Disaster’. We are happy to report with his new single, “Nobody” our love for his honest and authentic sound continues to grow.

You can listen to “Nobody” on Spotify Here, Apple Music Here

“Nobody” and “Meaning To Disaster “, will be featured on on Moody’s forthcoming July 11 EP Ephemera, the first in a series of EPs about navigating life’s chaos and finding clarity.

“Nobody”, simply feels like the perfect summer tune . We were immediately drawn to the almost “island” like feel of the song and it is effortlessly flowing in our music loving soul. Billy Dodge Moody, once again proves he is a master singer-songwriter/ storyteller and it is on full display on “Nobody

Sonically, I think it’s good timing with it coming out right before summer since it has an overall summer road trip vibe to it,” Moody says. “It also reflects the tonal ambiguity of the EP being both musically upbeat with a slightly dark, existential message – a theme that echoes throughout the record.”

Billy Dodge Moody continues : “Nobody’ explores the theme of emotional masking and the unseen struggles people carry. More specifically, it’s about watching someone close to you change – someone who once seemed confident and on top of the world suddenly revealing signs of inner turmoil. The song reflects on the difficulty of truly understanding what others are going through beneath the surface and how much can remain hidden, even from those who care most.”

Nobody,” interestingly enough, first came together while Moody was working on a Nirvana cover, and the guitarlines that permeate the track’s introduction call back to the Seattle icons’ Nevermind era. Utilizing a sort-of punk rock palm muting strumming pattern ultimately led to the chord progression heard in the song.

The style was a bit foreign to me, which actually made the writing process a lot more exciting,” Moody admits. “Usually when I have the instrumental foundation ironed out, I’m just trying to find a melody and I do it by mumbling gibberish over the chords. This particular progression and rhythm lent itself to more of a conversational tone so I just started writing a story of someone recognizing a significant change in someone’s personality since the last time they saw them.”

From there, Moody took the music and lyrics to trusted producer Brian Charles, who engineered the track over a few sessions alongside co-producer and engineer Annie Hoffman. Similar to the process for “Meaning To Disaster,” recording got started at Guilford Sound up in Vermont, and then finished closer to home at Charles’ freshly-minted Rare Signals studio in Cambridge, Massachusetts

With Moody performing vocals, guitar, and keys, he’s joined on “Nobody” by Sam Bouve on bass; Parker Goessling on guitar; Tyler Simko on keyboards; Jon Chapman on drums; and Hannah Foxman on backup vocals

Billy Dodge Moody, has a voice and song with “Nobody” that you need to experience…. You just don’t know it yet.

LABRADOR Release New Album “My Version Of Desire” And….. We Can’t Get Enough

We recently had the epic opportunity to check out the new album, “My Version Of Desire” , from Philadelphia, based Maximum Alt-Country’ band Labrador. You can listen to “My Version Of Desire” on Spotify Here and Apple Music Here

Labrador, has crafted memorable and melodic gems on “My Version Of Desire” that are authentic and lasting.

As soon as we heard the opening chords on “Someday I Pay”, we were absolutely mesmerized. Labrador, has a style and sound that perfectly blends a rock / alt -country sound that is letter perfect.

Led by guitarist, singer, and songwriter Pat King, Labrador has been around for a handful of years — seen moves to a new city (Philadelphia), seen a handful of lineup changes (the band is now officially King, Will Hochgertel and Steve Kurtz), and an excellent full-length breakthrough in 2023’s Hold The Door For Strangers. As you might guess from the title, Strangers was an album about empathy, full of poignant character studies and patient witching-hour ruminations.

“Dry June, and “A Favor To Someone”, are two solid tracks , that show off the next level musicianship of Labrador.

The title track, “My Version Of Desire “ in our opinion, is the best track on the album and is Labrador, at their absolute best.

Flawless vocals and brilliantly crafted melodies make “My Version Of Desire”, from Labrador, a must listen.

He shares, “I wanted my first single as a solo artist to be a song that has my influences on full display, and a message of hope and trust in the universe. The line, ‘You’re where you’re supposed to be’ is an affirmation that, for good or bad, you’re on the right path. It’s hard to see the bigger picture when life is throwing hard times, but those hard times can be lessons and opportunities if you let them.”

We love the vibrant indie/roots rock melody on “Into The Winds” Ali J Hassan, is artist who gives his whole soul in his music and it is an absolute thing of beauty .

Sam Varga Is Right On Track, With Epic New Single “Long Way Back”

We recently had the stellar opportunity, to check out the blazing new single, “Long Way Back”, from Nashville-based artist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Sam Varga. You can listen to “Long Way Back” Here

We first heard the amazing Sam Varga, back in March , of last year with his single , “Never Better”, to say we were impressed, is a huge understatement. Sam Varga , has a one of a kind sound and vibe that is positively electrifying.

Sam,  returns with his poignant new single, “Long Way Back,”a raw, reflective track that dives into the emotional wreckage of staying too long in the wrong place.

“Long Way Back” blends Sam’s emo-rooted honesty with stripped-down, Americana texturesincluding a touch of mandolinthat deepen the song’s introspective weight. It’s a story of heartbreak told in hindsight, where clarity only arrives once you’re already lost.

I was with someone special for a long time, but deep down, I always knew it wasn’t right,” he shares. “One day, you wake up miserable, wondering how you got there. I think we’ve all been in something we knew wasn’t for us. The longer you stay, the harder it is to leaveand the longer it takes to find your way back. It’s like missing your exit on the highway and watching it disappear in the rearview, getting further and further away. Eventually, you have to tear yourself away to save yourself.

Sam Varga is a Nashville-based artist blending his emo roots with Southern grit and singer-songwriter soul. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, he came up in the city’s DIY emo scene, cutting his teeth on loud guitars, basement shows, and late-night chaos. At home, his parents filled the house with ’80s rock, Southern staples, and classic lyricists, giving him a rich musical foundation that laid the groundwork for his genre-blurring sound. That blend of raw punk energy and emotional storytelling forms the backbone of his sound, landing somewhere between alt-country and rock, woven with acoustic textures and dynamic instrumentation.

There is so much to love about Sam Varga, He gives his whole heart and soul to his music and the results are breathtaking. “Long Way Back” , is a brilliantly written gem that has Sam Varga, firing on all cylinders- full speed ahead.

His 2024 debut album Shadow Work carved out space on the emo-tinged edges of the country world, where steel guitars, emotional gut-punches, and punk spirit converge. Now, with “Long Way Back,” Sam Varga pushes that sound furtherdeepening the alt-country edge without losing the vulnerability and urgency that sets his music apart. We have a feeling the adventure is just starting to gain steam and we can’t wait to see where it goes.

Nate Perry & Ragged Company Release Dazzling New Single, “Count On You”

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out the new single, “Count On You ” , from Boston alternative Americana band, Nate Perry & Ragged Company. You can listen to “Count On You” Here

Sometimes when you a hear a particular song, it moves you in a way that you feel compelled to tell the universe. We most certainly feel this way about “Count On You” , from Nate Perry & Ragged Company.

Nate Perry & Ragged Company, embodies everything that is good about music , they write inspiring and well crafted songs combined with powerful and electrifying live performances. The band has a healthy slate of live performances coming up including, Boston Calling Music Festival across Memorial Day weekend.

Just ahead of the festival gig on May 25, as well as appearances at Levitate Backyard (May 22), New England Americana Festival (June 28), and Veterans Rock Music Festival (July 19), and fresh off a sold-out show at The Fallout Shelter.

“Count On You” , is a shimmering anthem that glistens and glows as it canvasses a spectrum of Americana, alternative, pop, outlaw country, roots, and indie rock, the transformative “Count on You” details the importance of a partner to help navigate the rough waters that these days feel increasingly turbulent. Vocalist, guitarist, and band leader Nate Perry penned the track about personal relationships, and arrives on the eve of Boston Calling, just as Nate Perry & Ragged Company continue their rapid ascent following last year’s release of debut EP The Otherside of Everything.

“‘Count on You’ is about finding your partner in life and running into hard times,” Perry admits. “Specifically, I wrote this song from the point of view of someone who is scared that their partner isn’t going to show up when it matters. The result is a song from the perspective of someone who needs you. The times are getting hard and we both need to show up in this kind of situation. It’s a call to arms.”

“Count on You” is the effervescent first offering from a new EP set for release this summer, recorded with Brian Charles at Rare Signals in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The track opens a portal into a more grandiose sound and vision from the quintet, who retain the gritty Americana and roots rock sound at its core, but coat it in sonic layers that prevent it from being limited by our sense of genre or style. It’s emotional music for emotional times, written by one of Boston music’s most intriguing new voices.

“Count On You”, is what happens when extraordinary musicians get together and create phenomenal music. We have been hanging on every note/ word.

We are always being asked to recommend new music, “Count On You” , from Nate Perry & Ragged Company, is definitely a song we highly recommend .

Billy Dodge Moody Releases Poetically Perfect New Single, “Meaning To Disaster”

First new music from the alt-Americana artist since 2022’s ‘Condition’ album

We recently had the distinct honor of checking out the brilliantly beautiful new single , “Meaning To Disaster “, from Boston, alt-Americana singer-songwriter, Billy Dodge Moody . You can listen to “Meaning To Disaster” Here

We were immediately taken by the gorgeous and poignant melody that is beautifully presented with “Meaning To Disaster “

Billy Dodge Moody , takes the experience of a sudden tragic loss and is able to channel all of the emotions associated with that loss and craft his new single, a lush and sweeping ballad of cinematic indie folk-pop titled “Meaning to Disaster,” which hits the streams today (Friday, May 2.)

An expansive track that swirls around the heartfelt creative winds of Americana and pop-rock, offering a gorgeous type of grandeur that can only be revealed through a personal reflection, “Meaning to Disaster” is the first new music from Moody since his 2022 album Condition. It sets a dramatic tone for his forthcoming summer EP, Ephemera, the first in a series of EPs that will combine to form his next album, thematically centering around navigating chaos and finding clarity in life.

Taking a theme of tragedy and looking back on both a life cut short and one privileged to carry on, Moody first penned the track back in 2021, more than 20 years after his friend’s passing from an unexpected heart attack. Like an old wound needing time to heal and a desire to create something beautiful out of pain, Moody was deliberate in how – and when – he wanted to bring the touching composition to listeners.

Courtesy Of The Artist

It’s about the shock and confusion that comes with losing someone so young, and how that moment made me confront the brevity, chaos, and randomness of life,” Moody says. “The song grapples with the idea that life itself is inherently chaotic, and our purpose is to find a way to make sense of why we’re here – giving it some sense of purpose in the very short time we have.”

“Meaning To Disaster” by Billy Dodge Moody , reminds us why music is so important for our mind , body and soul. Music is a powerful vehicle and we are witnessing the power, first hand on “Meaning To Disaster”

Moody took “Meaning to Disaster” to his trusted longtime producer, Brian Charles, who the artist worked with previously at Zippah Recording. After a 2021 fire displaced the Brighton studio, Moody and Charles recorded the track over the course of three years, first at Guilford Sound in Guilford, Vermont, with stops along the way at Mad Oak in Allston and The Record Co. in Boston,  before completing it at Charles’ freshly-minted Rare Signals in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Charles mixed and mastered the track, on which Moody performs vocals and guitar alongside Jon Chapman on drums, Sam Bouve on bass, and Tyler Simko on keyboards. Additional vocals were provided by Hannah Foxman.

“Meaning To Disaster “ from Billy Dodge Moody , is about to become a song you can’t live without, you just don’t know it yet .

The new album arrives May 30th
via No Way Of Knowing (U.S.) & Safe Suburban Home (U.K. / E.U)

We absolutely love the sound and vibe of LABRADOR, The guitar sound is a great combination of alt country and jangle pop . The recent single, “Dry Out In June” is a sonically and melodically pleasing track that we couldn’t get enough.

You can listen to , “Dry Out In June” Here

We were especially attracted to the drum sound within , “Dry Out In June” , it really gave the track an added dimension.

We are looking forward to the release of “My Version Of Desire “ on May 30th, You can pre-order “My Version Of Desire “ Here

Izzy Mahoubi Has Crafted Melodic Perfection With latest Single, “Wanted”

We recently had the distinct honor to check out the new single, “Wanted”, from Phoenix, Arizona, indie Folk/Americana singer-songwriter, Izzy Mahoubi. You can listen to “Wanted” Here

Blending influences from The Beatles and Fiona Apple, Izzy creates her own soulful folk sound with elements of classic rock. She writes her lyrics like she’s talking to a friend- disclosing deepest insecurities and unafraid to share blunt, sometimes comedic, details.

At just 20, Izzy has spent the last few years opening for artists around America such as Adam Melchor, Em Beihold, LAUNDRY DAY, Mt Joy, and more. “Wanted” by Izzy Mahoubi is an indie folk song about unrequited love for the worst person you’ve ever met! Drawing inspiration from Joni Mitchell and Mt. Joy, “Wanted” is a backyard picking, summer song, for the girls. Izzy writes about a man child who, “likes his women the way he likes his light beer-low commitment” with the self awareness that, “there’s something about not being wanted by someone”. Written and recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, the Lumineers-esk song features gang vocals from her best friends creating an anthem for friends to sing with/at each other.

When writing songs, it is paramount to tell the truth . The truth is real , relatable and honest. Izzy Mahoubi, brings all of this front and center on “Wanted” and it is a thing of beauty.

Izzy Mahoubi, has so many layers and dimensions to her music that make her a one of a kind artist with a voice that needs to be heard.

“Wanted is one song you need to listen to immediately.

Kier Byrnes & The Kettle Burners Have Uncorked A Magnificent Collection Of Music , With New Ep “Before The Fall”

If the new EP, “Before The Fall” from-based accordion-driven country-rock sextet Kier Byrnes & The Kettle Burners , was whiskey it would be from the best barrel in the land – guaranteed. You can listen to the splendid new EP, “Before The Fall” below

the high-octane sextet, led by longtime Boston music scene veteran Kier Byrnes and the recipient of Americana Act of the Year at the 2024 New England Music Awards, unleashes the stunning new EP , Before The Fall , today, (Friday, April 4.) The spirited and feisty six-track EP, which blends a spectrum of subgenres that bridge alt-folk, gypsy punk, Celtic, old-school country, and whatever else, gets the proper release party treatment a week later at The Plough & Stars in Cambridge come April 11

My hope is to create a unique blend of music from genres I closely identify with; country, rock, Celtic and Bavarian folk music and turn it into something new that defies any genre,” says Byrnes. “You know the joke about what happens if you play a country song backwards – you get your car back, you get your woman back, and you get your dog back. My aim is to take a country song and turn it completely inside out.”

The Before The Fall EP, fueled by potent lead single and opening track “White Russian,” continues a dynamic 2025 for the band, with no immediate signs of a slow down. In the Kettle Burners, co-vocalist and acoustic guitarist Byrnes is rounded out by lead guitarist and co-vocalist Dan DiBacco; accordion player Jason McGorty; washboard player Monica Sager; bassist Joe Miller; and drummer Brian Lilienthal. And the band just banged out seven live shows over a five-day stretch leading up to St. Patrick’s Day, celebrating their also-new In The Key of Guinness EP of Irish music with high-profile gigs at Harpoon Brewery, The Burren, and a massive 10-hour all-day holiday set at The Stockyard in Brighton.

Every song on , “Before The Fall” , felt more like a monumental musical event rather just an average song , we were literally hanging on every word and melody.

Remarkably, for a band with the Kettle Burners’ hustle and all-overdrive ambition, the tracks that make up Before The Fall were all written and recorded last summer, just ahead of the band’s appearance at Outlaw Music Fest in New Hampshire alongside Willie Nelson & Family, John Mellencamp, Charley Crockett, and others. A few weeks before the gig arrived, Byrnes suffered a tumble down a set of stairs, leaving him with severe injury to his legs and requiring surgery. Finishing the songs was placed on the back-burner, allowing Byrnes time to heal and giving the record its title, as the songs were all written Before The Fall.

With its title already ominous, the lyrical material reveals a slightly darker undercurrent than what the upbeat and zestful music would imply.

Some of my favorite country and folk songs are the ones where the music seems really nice and happy-go-lucky, but if you listen to the lyrics, it’s really gory and/or tragic,” admits Byrnes. “It’s fun to sing about darker stuff in an upbeat, energetic way.”

We blissfully sang and danced our way through “Before The Fall” from Kier Byrnes & The Kettle Burners and truth be told we enjoyed every single minute of it. . “When The Money’s All Gone” , “Train’s Off The Rails and “Hurting or Helping “ are absolute gems that we are absolutely over the moon about . Flawless sing along vocals woven between memorable melodies make “Before The Fall” a collection of music to cherish forever. Our favorite track on “Before The Fall” , is without a doubt “Quarter-Life Crisis “ Everything about this song is “stop you in your tracks “ good.

Do yourself a solid and check out “Before The Fall” you certainly will not regret it.

Sam Robbins Proves He Is Indeed “The Real Thing”

We recently had the delightful opportunity to check out the new single, “The Real Thing” from New England folk singer songwriter Sam Robbins. You can listen to “The Real Thing” Here

We are immediately greeted by Sam Robbin’s authentic and genuine voice which is beautifully woven in a delightful melody. “The Real Thing” is a well-crafted gem that has Sam Robbins at his absolute best.

The third single from So Much I Still Don’t See, the Chet Atkins-inspired, upbeat “The Real Thing”, is the second track on the album and an example of the varied energy across the collection of ten songs. “The Real Thing” began with a lyrical groove – driving out of a certain American city on tour, thousands of miles from home, with a 12 hour drive ahead, the spark of inspiration hit. The groove of the first line, “I’m sailing smooth highway under soft suburb lights/ where an Applebee’s oversees every corner” led to the rest of “The Real Thing” being written all in one night at a hotel in the middle of nowhere, USA. The song is a lighter take on the existential questions present throughout the album. Diving into questions of environmentalism, man’s place in the world, and the writer’s place in the world, “The Real Thing” is the upbeat kickoff to the soft, cutting, inquisitive “So Much I Still Don’t See”.

Sonically, “The Real Thing” is a tribute to one of Robbins’s main influences on guitar, the great fingerstyle player Chet Atkins. With Chet’s signature thumping thumb technique, Robbins built a sonic palette that utilized this classic sound but twisted it with his own modern take. The thumping, western-style groove emulates the vibe of the lyrics – the quintessentially American feeling of driving fast down a dusty highway, to get to anywhere but where you are.

Great music, should be heard and celebrated, this is most definitely the case with , “The Real Thing “from Sam Robbins

Grace Morrison, has one of the most authentic and genuine sound and vibe that our ears have had the privilege of hearing in quite some time , “Beer In Teacup” has a familiar and warm tone however , Grace Morrison artfully makes it a song that is a welcomed and fresh change of pace.

The song is a twang-filled anthem about embracing imperfections and letting self doubt roll off your shoulders. It is an ode to her grandma who sipped beer out of a Victorian teacup with a saucer and didn’t give a damn about what people thought about her.

The single is off of her highly anticipated forthcoming album Saltwater Country, an ode to her hometown of Cape Cod and her cranberry growing family. The music is a charismatic blend of folk, country and pop and is produced by Jon Evans (Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan).

Born and raised on the shores of Cape Cod, Grace Morrison has trademarked a sound she calls Saltwater Country. “I was always too pop for folk and too folk for country. Eventually, I started peeling back the layers of my music to find out what truly made it mine. At the heart of it all was my deep, undeniable connection to the Cape Cod coastline—it’s in my blood, in my voice, in every lyric I write. My music carries the storytelling of country, the twang, but also the raw, unshakable spirit of a Swamp Yankee. That’s Saltwater Country.”

“Beer In A Teacup”, from Grace Morrison showcases a relatable and descriptive songwriting/ storytelling style that really connects the listener with the song .

But after a while, you find someone you actually love, and that feels better than anything. The song is about saying, if this relationship is wrong or a sin, or if this woman is too good for me, I’m not stopping—so go ahead and pray for me. In the end, the power of love makes us better”

A true survivor of rock’s ever-changing landscape, Jamie James remains an influential figure whose contributions to rockabilly, rock, and Americana continue to resonate with fans and fellow musicians alike. Straight Up, marks a return to his roots while showcasing his evolution as an artist, blending his signature style with fresh, contemporary sounds. Ski Team Delivers Absolutely Stunningly Beautiful New Single “Islands”

We recently had the incredible opportunity to check out the new single “Islands”, from Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Ski Team.

You can listen to “Islands” on Spotify Here

Sometimes music is so beautiful and perfect that it can literally take your breath away , this is absolutely the case with “Islands” from singer-songwriter Ski Team. The stunning layered song is a lush hymn and the counterpart to her previous single “Me“.

Ski Team is the solo moniker of Lucie Lozinski, an independent songwriter, singer, producer, and guitarist who’s known for her yearning lyrics, crystalline voice, and gritty instrumentation. American Songwriter has described her music as “… a quasi-Americana sound, combining traditional folk and rock elements with undeniably modern soundscapes.”

She shares, “I wrote “Islands” while producing “Me”—the bass sounded like crickets, and I started looping it and singing over it. The improvised melody and harmony had something so sweet and somber about it. Then we just rapid fire layered harmonies, all unplanned, just whatever I felt like singing. I think that improvised spirit of listening and just doing what feels right—whatever comes out—is what makes this song so special. There was very little planning and designing it. I just sang a song from the soul into the mic, and you can feel that.”

Besides the beautiful harmonies on “Islands” what stood out to us was the brilliant use of subtle ambient noise on the track that added such a wonderful dimension to an already stellar song .

Ski Team collaborated with producer Daniel Knowles (Sharon Van Etten, Cigarettes After Sex) on the new single.

A song like “Islands” from Ski Team , is exactly why we fell in love with music to begin with. – Bravo

“Cancel Culture “ Proves That No One Sings About The Truth Better Than Crys Matthews

We recently had the distinct honor to check out the new single “Cancel Culture “ from social justice warrior, proud black woman and lesbian folk singer songwriter Crys Matthews.

You can listen to “Cancel Culture “ on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

Crys Matthews is a true trtroubadour of truth, and this is front and center on her new single “Cancel Culture “

The most anticipated song on her upcoming record,  Reclamation, “Cancel Culture” picks up where “Changemakers” left off. She confides, “So often when I perform, I am the only person or one of a very few people in that space who looks like me. And because of the type of music that I sing, inevitably at the end of the night, someone would come up to me and say some version of ‘You’re just so brave talking about all of this stuff — I think that I would be so scared of being canceled that I would just stay quiet. The audacity of that, the notion of staying quiet in the face of something that you yourself know is wrong — I had too many feelings about it especially because there is so much in this American culture of ours that we could and should be canceling.”

. An award-winning, prolific lyricist and composer, Matthews blends Country, Americana, Folk, Blues, and Bluegrass into a bold, complex performance steeped in traditional melodies punctuated by honest, original lyrics. She is made for these times.

“Cancel Culture “ is a beautifully crafted and important song. We believe Crys Matthews is an important voice with an important message that needs to be heard .

Crys Matthews will be on tour with Julian Taylor in November and with Flamy Grant, Jennifer Knapp, Spencer LaJoye, and Heather Mae as part of the Make the Yuletide Gay Tour in December. In the meantime, here’s where you can catch her:

Girl With A Hawk Continue To Amaze With Beautiful New Single And Message “Share It All”

Credit- Nicole Anguish

We recently had the delightful opportunity to check out the new single “Share It All” from Boston band Girl With A Hawk. You can listen to “Share It All” on Spotify Here, Apple Music Here and on Bandcamp Here

Girl With A Hawk , knows no creative or musical bounds. The band artfully and creatively, consistently add another layer of musical greatness to their already treasure trove of musical wonderment and… “Share It All” is no exception.

Fresh off the release of call-to-action folk song “#VOTE (Rock The Boat)”, the Boston rock band led by Linda Viens is set to release new single “Share It All” today, (Friday, October 25) via Rum Bar Records, with the colorful and engaging Joan Hathaway-directed lyric video to follow a few days later. The Americana-leaning “Share It All” was produced and engineered by Pete Weiss, and the single artwork was created and designed by Nicole Anguish of Daykamp Creative.

Those are just some of the names – Hathaway, Weiss, Anguish, and Rum Bar’s Lou Mansdorf – that are part of Girl with a Hawk’s expansive creative orbit. And as “Share It All” revels in a common sense of joy and euphoria by looking at ourselves as one collective unit, acknowledging the successes and triumphs of others to aid a shared cause, it’s a sentiment worth exploring as our country heads to further division on the eve of November’s historic presidential election.

“‘Share it All’ is about a way of looking at the world through the lens of our oneness, not our differences,” says Viens. “It draws from the Stoic concept of Sympatheia; that we must look after one another because we are all one, part of an interconnected cosmos. We are cut from the same human cloth, and breathe and think and live the same, no matter what superficial differences may appear to exist.”

Photo – Kelly Davidson

Viens first penned “Share It All” during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, and, as she often does, took philosophical inspiration from Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, who between 171–175 CE wrote: “Meditate often on the interconnectedness and mutual interdependence of all things in the universe.” At a time when family, friends, and colleagues were separated, forced to socially distance and isolate to curb the spread of the viral disease, the Boston music scene veteran was drawn to Aurelius’ idea that “understanding how we are all connected and dependent on each other encourages us to see past our differences, and help one another, even in small daily kindnesses. Seeing each other as ‘other’ emboldens alienation.”

The deepness of care that is ever present in the writings of Linda Viens and in the music of Girl With A Hawk is refreshing however, more importantly it gives us great hope that compassion still exists, and that is always a good thing .

Girl with a Hawk is:

Linda Viens: Lead vocals, guitars

Richard Lamphear: Keys, backing vocals

Daniel Coughlin: Guitars, backing vocals

Dan Bernfeld: Bass, backing vocals

Girl With A Hawk Deliver An Important And Melodic Message With New Single #Vote(Rock The Vote )

We recently had the privilege and honor of checking out the amazing new single #Vote (Rock The Vote)  via Rum Bar Records from Girl With A Hawk .A Joan Hathaway directed video arrives October 9th . You can listen to #Vote (Rock The Boat) on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

We have always said that great bands can play any style of music. Girl With A Hawk is without question a great band and while they normally bring the rock, they have brilliantly delivered an absolute folk/Americana gem with their magnificent new single #Vote (Rock The Vote)

The message of getting out and voting is without a doubt, one of great importance . Linda Viens delivers a powerful and inspiring vocal performance that is coupled with guest collaborator Jim Fitting of Treat Her Right and Session Americana who gives the track a little extra soul .

The track was first penned by the veteran Boston musician and songwriter 20 years ago when George W. Bush was running for reelection against Massachusetts’ own John Kerry. Now, two decades later, with the Democratic ticket of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz setting their sights on the White House, Viens brought the bones of the track to her Girl with a Hawk bandmates to resurrect its sound and sentiment for what’s shaping up to be the most important election in our lifetimes.

Not since the Civil War has preserving our democracy been so crucially dependent on the American people being active, and voting, as it is right now,” Viens says. “We have to fight as hard as we can for the Harris/Walz ticket, and I hope the song inspires people to recognize the power they hold to affect change and move our country forward. That said, I believe in democracy, and if a candidate I don’t like wins an election fair and square, then the people have spoken.”

In the song, the band is mindful to not be preachy or persuasive in convincing a person to vote one way or another. They just want to get every American man, woman, and person to the voting booth on Election Day.

The lyrics of ‘#VOTE’ retain a kind of neutrality,” she adds, “in that ‘sides’ are not taken, there is no reference to ‘right’ or ‘left’. But we hope the video underscores the political and cultural ethos inherent in the lyrics in a more direct way; emphasizing the ideas of liberty, justice and freedom for all. We also hope that the video brings a smile, and reflects a collective faith in a world that is more diverse, inclusive, and ultimately joyful, because people are free to choose who they want to be and how they want to live. My work has always been about creating loving and supportive communities, where we lift each other up, think and act for the common good, and lend a helping hand. For me there is no greater way to bring humans together than through the power of music!”

In addition to the enlisting of Fitting on harmonica, “#Vote (Rock The Boat)” brings Girl with a Hawk together in a new capacity and configuration, with Viens on lead vocals, guitar, and backing vocals; Daniel Coughlin on slide guitar and backing vocals; and Richard Lamphear, Dan Bernfeld, and Nancy Delaney all contributing backing vocals, taking a breather from their usual efforts on keyboards, bass, and drums, respectively. The track was co-produced by Lamphear and Viens.

Girl with a Hawk perform acoustically at a Harris/Walz fundraiser at Crystal Ballroom in Somerville on October 10.

Music is a very powerful medium and it is also the perfect medium to get out the importance of voting. Girl With A Hawk beautifully does their part with #Vote (Rock The Vote)

Penny & Sparrow Deliver Absolute Magic with New Single “Country”

We recently had the golden opportunity to check out the new single “Country” from critically acclaimed Austin, Texas indie folk duo, Penny & Sparrow.(Andy Baxter and Kyle Jahnke) “Country” is the third single following “Ketamine “ featuring Tobe Nwigwe and “Mattering Ram” all three tracks will be included on Penny & Sparrow’s upcoming album Lefty to be released January 31, 2025. Catch the band at Austin City Limits on October 4.

You can listen to “Country” Here

Penny & Sparrow have a unique one of a kind sound that warms the soul.”Country” from Penny & Sparrow feels like absolute breath of fresh air.

Penny & Sparrow produced the entire record with  few songs co-produced by their dear friend, Jonathan Oliphant

The band says, “We made Lefty 20 tracks long and gave ourselves acreage of song space to experiment. We wanted to record a double album for the challenge of it, and also for the chance to be sonically rangy and eccentric. The idea of offering all sorts of sounds, structures, melodies, and lyrical approaches in 20 songs was creatively exciting to us, so we did it. We helped build a recording studio in a buddy’s old toolshed and we made most of the record inside it. There were a few field trips to bigger studios in Florence, AL (Portside & SunDrop) but most of Lefty came from that retrofitted garden shed. We wanted to hold genre lightly and take a less curated approach to Lefty, so we followed our noses and made every song we wanted to along the way.”

The album highlights the duo’s ability to craft a distinctive “indie acoustic” sound while seamlessly blending elements from various genres due to their and their exceptional songwriting skills.

Take the single “Country,” for example—it initially comes across as pure country. However, with Penny & Sparrow’s unique touch, it seamlessly merges with indie folk influences. This track is just a glimpse of what fans can anticipate from the full album when it’s released.

We have fallen deep for “Country” from Penny & Sparrow. We are awash in the big beautiful, sweeping melodies and we can’t get enough . Do yourself a favor and go to your favorite music listening spot and get lost in the beauty of “Country” from Penny&Sparrow

Crys Matthews Delivers An Authentic And Honest Truth With New Single “The Difference Between “ Featuring Melody Walker And Chris Housman

We recently had the chance to check out the new single “The Difference Between “ from from social justice warrior, proud black woman and LGBTQ+ americana/folk/country singer-songwriter Crys Matthews, featuring Melody Walker and Chris Housman. You can listen to “The Difference Between “ on Spotify Here and Apple Music Here and YouTube Here

We have long said that you can’t fake the truth, Crys Matthews further cements her place as an important voice as she delivers the stunningly brilliant and powerful new single “The Difference Between “ which, features Melody Walker and Crys Matthews .

“The Difference Between”, features three LGBTQ artists, all of whom call Nashville home. Crys Matthews confides, “This is Country too, it looks like you and it looks like me. When I heard Jason Aldean’s “Try That in a Small Town”, I was so offended — not just as a Black woman, but as a proud Southerner. The audacity to think that there would be a South at all without my people is the kind of willful ignorance that keeps folks like me from feeling safe in Country and Americana spaces. There are consequences to that kind of hateful rhetoric.”

She continues , “This is a reclamation not just of the space Black artists have been denied in Country and Americana music, not just of the space LGBTQ people have been denied in communities of faith, not just of the autonomy women have been denied over our own bodies, but a reclamation of the South that raised me.”

A troubadour of truth, Nashville resident Crys Matthews is among the brightest stars of the new generation of social justice music-makers. An award-winning, prolific lyricist and composer, Matthews blends Country, Americana, Folk, Blues, and Bluegrass into a bold, complex performance steeped in traditional melodies punctuated by honest, original lyrics. She is made for these times.

A daughter of the South by way of Nashville now and North Carolina forever, and the self-proclaimed poster child of intersectionality, Matthews is boldly answering those questions on her new album aptly titled Reclamation.

We can’t wait for more music from Crys Matthews in the meantime we will enjoy the beauty of “The Difference Between “ from Crys Matthews featuring Melody Walker and Chris Housman.

We can’t believe we are late to the party with Nate Perry & Ragged Company… “The Otherside Of Everything “ is that perfectly poured glass of beer and the perfect sunset all rolled into one but… set to music.

The CD release of The Otherside of Everything, produced by Brian Charles at Rare Signals in Cambridge, surfaces ahead of two choice festival gigs fast on the horizon: An appearance at Thrive Music Festival on September 20 with GA-20 and Crooked Coast; and a show at Team Haverhill’s River Ruckus alongside KT Tunstall and The 502s on September 21.

The five tracks on the EP act like mini-chapters of an overarching storyline of finding your way through life and the people you meet along the way: The urgent enchantment and upbeat thrust of lead track “Maria”; the twang-driven gallop of “All I Need”; a raw country glow in “Another Day”; the radio-ready pop-leaning euphoria of “Evergreens”; and a soulful spin around Southern blues in “Preacher.” The EP’s title, The Otherside of Everything, reflects Perry’s life after the Army, and the crazy years that have followed. And as the band’s vocalist and guitarist, he’s ready to present these stories to the listener.

There is this real familiar feel on the EP that really makes the listener feel connected to the music . We found ourselves almost singing along instantly.

Every song I write is a true story of mine, in one way or another,” admits Perry. “Entirely self-reflective and a bit confessional. Each song is about my life and specifically the last five years or so after the Army. These aren’t songs about partying or anything, and I’m also not claiming to be a genius writer, but I hope they hear the stories and find some common ground with us.”

So do your music loving heart a favor and check out “The Otherside of Everything from Nate Perry & Ragged Company .

There is this real authentic energy around “Pastel Southwestern “ from Desert Mambas . The incredibly talented Bailey Moses has created an absolute indie masterpiece and we can’t get enough of it.

The dusty old time country/Americana vibe on “Pastel Southwestern “ is one of the most refreshing EP’s we have heard in quite some time. Every song is perfectly crafted and executed. From note one on the intro, all the way through to “the Average” we laughed, sang our hearts out and appreciated the overall greatness of “Pastel Southwestern “ from Desert Mambas .

The latest effort demonstrates just how comfortable Moses has gotten in their own shoes, gracefully holding a delicate balance between the intensity of being alive and the George Costanza of it all. “I’m not much of a ladies man / though I try, and I try, and I try / I’m much more a mustard stain on your shirt ‘Hey man your zipper’s down’ / ‘You should really check your fly,’” Moses croons before launching into the song’s soon-to-be-iconic chorus: “I’m like a hot George Costanza / I’m like, so hot you can’t stand it.”

In Pastel Southwestern, Desert Mambas brings brutal honesty to the forefront, poetically describing everything from the trials and tribulations of the trans experience to the alluring grip of trash TV. Set to the melodic and meditative cadence that Moses is becoming known for, this release showcases their range beautifully, from the soft, spacey twang of their guitar to the intricately woven pedal steel.  And… we love every minute of it .

“I’m so proud of this EP,” said Moses. “I’m not a person who likes to take myself too seriously… but I also absolutely take myself very seriously. These songs capture so much of the seriousness and silliness I love about music simultaneously.”

Do yourself a favor and check out “Pastel Southwestern “ from Desert Mambas . You won’t regret it.

Paul Nourigat is a master storyteller . At the heart of Paul’s songs is his life. Growing up, his family moved around internationally and nationally as a result of his father’s military career, and he lived in 12 homes by the time he graduated high school. This transient existence forced his sense of independence and mindfulness of the world around him. Just after high school, he survived a brutal and humbling motorcycle accident that claimed a few digits on his shattered hands, after which he discounted playing musical instruments. That is, until his wife of 40 years signed him up for a group ukulele session, which led to guitars, writing over 150 songs, and the rest is history.

My songs speak to people who want to hear stories,” Paul says. He crafts each album with well-developed overarching themes, and each song features narratives with classic story arcs, including sweet resolutions. In the future, Paul plans to leverage his vast unpublished lyrical catalog for other artists, and license his works to film and stage productions. Outside of music, over the past decade Paul has been parlaying his literary gifts as a noted author, writing and publishing 10 books, which are distributed around the world, teaching kids, teens, and young adults about life essentials and financial topics. This year, the country of Canada selected one of his graphic novels for use in its ESL program for 50,000 teens for the next 7 years.

This is most certainly the case with Americana singer-songwriter Daniel Nickels and his brilliantly crafted new single “Annabelle”

You can listen to “Annabelle”on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

New single Annabelle features Nickels’s soulfully melodic vocals in an alt-country setting nuanced with pedal steel and organ. The song’s narrative recounts a relatable tale of co-worker frustration. “I wrote ‘Annabelle’ when I was a manager for a surgery center, and one of my employees was really indecisive about working for me and the company. I started to imagine what it was like to be her boyfriend,” Nickels reveals. The song’s imagined romance unfolds with country poetics. He sings: I’m only as good as I am with you/You turn my mind into a question mark/I can’t shake how you drink me up/And pour me out of this paper cup. Nickels is the sole writer of “Annabelle,” though Dave Hagen co-produced and mixed the song. “Annabelle” was tracked at Brokenworks studio in Ashland OR with Nickels’s live band augmented by Hammond organist Phil Madeira (The Civil Wars, Alison Krauss, Garth Brooks) and pedal steel player Sammy Kovic.
