Acting as a portal to a larger world, “Hold On Soul” and its blend of yearning Americana, country rock, and Southern gothic bring us into Dirt Road Souls’ unfurling tale of (The Life and Times of) Johnny Moonshine, an ambitious 12-track concept album and roots rock opera set for release in early 2026.

Chronicling the rise, fall, and enduring spirit of a small-town rebel with big dreams and a bigger heart, told through the lens of a close friend and narrator, the record follows the mythic arc of Johnny Moonshine — a backroad dreamer, moonshine runner, romantic, and overall tragic figure. It’s a poetic odyssey of freedom, failure, and redemption, all wrapped around an arsenal of memorable hooks and melodic storytelling.

Few new bands would take on something as enterprising and aspiring as (The Life and Times of) Johnny Moonshine to mark their debut album, but Dirt Road Souls – composed of Boston music scene veterans Davis Black (The Inebriations), Rick Weden (Shotgun Waltz), and Brian Sargent (Black Cat Crossing) – felt the time was right to tell the tale.

“‘Hold On Soul’ was first written many years ago when I had left my small town and gone off to start a life in Boston,” Black admits. “After high school and college years I’d often return to my small town to recharge – and get drunk with my friends who didn’t leave town. These lyrics come from the culture shock between the two places. The stress of the city vs. the simplicity of the small town was very real for a little while.”

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out Pip Lewis and “Safe&Sound”, a lush new reimagining of a highlight from her debut LP Growing Pains (out now via Enci Records).

The single marks the first in a series of stripped-down versions of album tracks, with more to follow in the months ahead.

Pip Lewis, is an amazing artist with a voice that is simply otherworldly. You owe it to yourself to check out the brilliantly reimagined “Safe&Sound”

The synth-heavy origins of Safe & Sound gave way to something much more organic in this version,” says Pip. “There are still traces of that signature tremolo synth buried in the mix, but the new version is very much driven by swooping strings and delicate a piano melody. The last chorus of the deluxe version embodies the lyrics “I feel like I’m floating above this room full of people I love.” I love the final product that we ended up with, it’s so ambient and earthy.”

Released earlier this year, Growing Pains introduced Pip as a fearless songwriter blending vulnerable storytelling with shimmering synths and undeniable melodic hooks. Describing the record as a “sonic autobiography,” Pip captured the emotional turbulence of love, loss, and self-discovery with striking honesty.

Tracks like “When It Comes To You”showcased her ability to translate raw emotion into immersive soundscapes, while “Naomi” cemented itself as one of the album’s most powerful and dramatic statements—making it a natural starting point for the Stripped series.

We have long been in awe of Sam Varga and his authentic sound and vibe . “The Fallout “ is Sam Varga, at his absolute best.

The seven-track collection brings together his recent run of singles alongside two brand-new songs, “What If I’m Okay?” and “Sticking With It.”

The track that really stood out to us on “The Fallout” is the opening track, “Isabella” . It is a well written track with drop dead perfect vocals.

The Fallout finds Varga leaning deeper into his alt-country edge while holding tight to the raw vulnerability that has always set his music apart. It’s an EP that refuses to sit neatly in one lane, instead bringing together the grit of Americana, the restless drive of punk, the emotional urgency of emo, and the hook-driven immediacy of alt-pop. The result is a sound that feels both grounded and restless, with steel guitars rubbing up against jagged distortion and confessional lyrics unfolding with anthemic force.

The Fallout’ represents the entire past year of my life,” says Varga. “For me, it’s my emotional and social diary of 2025, and it’s allowed me to process the world around me—whether it be breakups, growth, or the political and social hellscapes of this year. It’s also the accumulation of my sonic development since moving to Nashville, with punk, country, singer-songwriter, and folk elements all dancing in rhythm. This project also puts to bed a lot of concepts I’m leaving behind: warring with myself, the self-deprecation, and any residual bitterness I’ve carried. I’m stoked that all of that was alchemized into something fun that just rips.”

Sam Varga is a Nashville-based artist blending his emo roots with Southern grit and singer-songwriter soul. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, he came up in the city’s DIY emo scene, cutting his teeth on loud guitars, basement shows, and late-night chaos. At home, his parents filled the house with ’80s rock, Southern staples, and classic lyricists, giving him a rich musical foundation. That mix of raw punk energy and emotional storytelling now fuels a sound that sits somewhere between alt-country and rock. It’s gritty yet melodic, with acoustic textures and dynamic, genre-blurring instrumentation.

Kat Cunning, is an artist in every sense of the word. They have artfully crafted a true musical gem with “Glass Jaw”, that we simply can’t stop listening to. We danced , we sang …. Our music loving heart was touched beyond measure.

Kat Cunning, has delivered a five-track, cinematic and genre-bending opus that solidifies their place as one of today’s most fearless queer voices. Both anthemic and intimate, the record frames their unmistakable voice—rich, raw, and commanding—which has graced stages and cinemas around the world. In this bold departure from their lush, romantic early work, Glass Jaw exists in the aﬀair between LOVE and DANGER. The EP’s opening track, “Sinderella” had us immediately enthralled. “Sinderella” flips fairytale tropes into a kinky, unhinged anthem of obsession—urgent, theatrical, and unforgettable. It’s also Kat’s drag debut, sung at the top of their range

The flawless vocals on “Dancer”, were positively breathtaking. With muscular production and aching vocals, it invokes the shadows of Depeche Mode and Annie Lennox while exploding into an anthem of delirious persistence. A galvanizing homage to the radical joy and resilience of the queer community, it’s not just a pop song; it’s a rallying cry. Love Lies Bleeding called- They want their theme song back.

Our favorite track on the EP, is without question, “Pinup Boy” . Kat Cunning, is at their absolute best . Sung like a confession, this lonely ballad blooms with nostalgic harmonies and organic strings, reminding us that even in spectacle, Cunning has the instincts of a poet. Pure Perfection.

We are totally in love with the samples on “Rocket” the song sent our music loving heart into orbit.

Closing track “My Lady (Tigerlily)” is the stupid-in-love, seal of hope on the EP. Giddy, bombastic and unabashed, it’s the button on an otherwise darker world—a reminder that queer stories can end in triumph, not tragedy, no matter how many scorpio placements you have in your chart. We’re in pop music to celebrate escapism, maximalism and radical joy, afterall.

“Glass Jaw” from the simply amazing Kat Cunning, is much more than just an EP, it is a beautiful, glorious , inspiring and important body of work that is felt long after the music has ended.

Trestles Deliver A Splendid Whirlwind Of Grooves And Melodies With Latest Album, “Salt”

We have said before and we feel it needs to be said again, Trestles, have such a unique sound and vibe that it is almost impossible not to be swept away by their musical wonderment. This is on full display on their glorious new record

Formed in 2021, the new band made a name for themselves playing in the college rock circuit during the major post-pandemic scene resurgence. While Trestles definitely allows the beach town aesthetic of Santa Cruz to seep into their music, the band is more interested in creating a sound that equally criticizes and celebrates west coast garage rock tradition.

By finding a balance between the nostalgia of 1960’s musicianship and the accessibility of modern garage rock textures and pop sensibility, the band’s sound aims to be relentlessly rooted in the present. This attitude is delivered through sarcastic, yet aware lyrics that aim to make living in the moment feel like a study in social politics. Trestles‘ music is plainly meant for whoever who wants to hear it.

After becoming a quintessential new band to look out for, Trestles released their first LP Halfway Up The Hill in 2022. Propelled by the success of local indie anthems Dwell & Rip Curl Sweatshirt the band embarked on a couple of west coast runs, playing numerous sold out shows in college towns. In 2024, Trestles was recognized as Santa Cruz’s “Band of the Year” for their explosive live shows, solidifying them as one to watch.

From the moment we heard the opening track, “Head First” we knew that “Salt” , from Trestles was going to be something special.

“Salt” is one of those magical records that there is not a bad song to be found. You can literally press play and enjoy.

“Babylon”, “Shake My Hand” and “Bones” are all solid well crafted gems that stayed in our soul long after the music faded .

However, the one song that we simply could shake was , “Having A Day” it is an absolutely brilliant song that every music lover needs to hear.

Trestles, are currently on their “Salt” tour . We have a feeling that they are a band that you can’t afford not to see live.

Suspect Your Elders’ follows 2021’s debut album, ‘How Soon Is Mars?’, which received critical acclaim for its innovative sound and emotional depth, taking listeners on a journey through the cosmos of their imagination. The album was celebrated by the likes of Punktastic, Noizze, At The Barrier, Visions and Everything Is Noise and saw the band awarded slots at festivals such as ArcTanGent, Portals and PWER.

Recorded, mixed and mastered with Mark Roberts (Delta Sleep, Black Peaks, Poly-Math, Jamie Lenman) at Devon’s Middle Farm Studios, ‘Suspect Your Elders’ expertly blends elements of math-rock, post-rock and ambient noise, creating intricate rock soundscapes to explore themes of unpredictability, complex emotions, and the dark side of the internet.

The final single ‘Surfer’ uses explosive riffs and seductive guitar lines to convey the dark side of time wasted surfing the internet.

Explaining what they hoped to convey with the single, guitarist Josh says, “‘Surfer’ is an analogy for our complex and often overwhelming relationship with social media and the internet in general. While the internet is obviously an extremely powerful and useful tool ‘Surfer’ definitely explores the darker side – the ease with which we can lose ourselves online, hide behind a curated digital persona, or simply waste time.”

“The main inspiration for the song actually came from a time I found one of those Google home-page games, which happened to be based around surfing. I became so engrossed that I completely lost track of time and reality and played for well over an hour, as if I had been pulled into another world or dimension”, adds Rory.

“The Lake” , from Emma Harner, featuring Henry Jamison, is a hauntingly beautiful melody that touched our soul in the most profound way… we were left absolutely speechless.

The release follows Emma’s acclaimed debut EP Taking My Side, which drew praise for its striking combination of intricate guitar work and emotionally direct songwriting. With a sound that marries technical precision with raw vulnerability, Harner has quickly emerged as one of the most compelling new artists to watch.

“The Lake” is a meditation on the ache of holding onto something that’s already slipping away. Written about mourning a fleeting relationship before it’s truly over, the song takes its name from the lake near Harner’s hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska. “Some of my best memories took place there, so it felt like the right setting for this song,” she shares. Produced by Doug Schadt (Maggie Rogers, Claud, Ashe), the track finds Harner expanding her sonic palette while keeping her distinctive guitar-driven foundation at the center.

Emma Harner, is without question an absolute musical marvel that needs to be heard .

The single features Vermont-based artist Henry Jamison, whose evocative vocals add a haunting counterpoint. A celebrated collaborator with over 350M streams and projects with Maisie Peters, JOSEPH, and Fenne Lily, Jamison has long been praised for his ability to weave folk lyricism into contemporary textures.

I was a fan of Emma’s and had heard the first verse and chorus of ‘The Lake’ in one of her videos, long before she wrote to me and asked if I would want to sing on it,” Jamison says. “She was working with my buddy Doug, who produced a lot of my third record, and they had made the song into this towering, incredibly moody thing. I wrote my verse inspired by that atmosphere and tracked it with them in Brooklyn. Emma is a generational talent and I feel very lucky to work with her.”

His contribution to “The Lake” lends a new perspective to Harner’s story, deepening the emotional resonance of the track. “Henry’s voice gives the song a whole new perspective and flavor,”Harner adds. “‘The Lake’ is one of my favorites so far and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”

Originally from Lincoln, Nebraska and now based in Boston, Harner first gained attention through a series of viral videos on Instagram and TikTok. Her virtuosic guitar skills, harmonic sophistication, and emotional depth quickly earned her a devoted following. She’s already received early praise from tastemakers like Zane Lowe, Rick Beato, and Guitar.com, the latter of which hailed her as “not only a compelling songwriter but one of America’s most impressive new guitarists.”

We here at The Whole Kameese… love music… We live it, breathe it with every fiber of our being. So when we hear something that moves us, we want to scream it from the rooftops and share it with the universe. This is definitely the case with the stunning new EP, “Growing Pains” from Anaïs & The Hoops.

We were immediately taken by the timeless and fresh vibe of Anaïs & The Hoops.

Anaïs & The Hoops is the project of Brooklyn-based, San Diego-raised singer and songwriter Anaïs Lund. She got her start performing in jazz clubs and restaurants before finding her own musical footing in 2019, when she began writing the songs that would shape her project, Anaïs & The Hoops. With her jazz-inflected vocals, sharp yet vulnerable lyrics, catchy pop melodies, and a captivating retro aesthetic,

On Growing Pains, Anaïs channels her signature fusion of indie-pop, jazz, and folk into a collection that’s nostalgic, playful, and brimming with authenticity.

The six-track EP has been three years in the making for Anaïs. Along the way, she brought in producer Ben Coleman, as well as her bandmates and fellow New York musicians, to give each tack its own collaborative imprint. That spirit of collaboration extended beyond the band, with her mother helping refine the lyrics of her first French-language song, “Passe le temps,” and a poem by her friend Alex Brady becoming part of “Cool.” “It’s been fun to cobble together,” she shares. “Basically, every song was touched by someone in or around the live band.”

Coming in the same way it exits, “Golden Days” lends itself to repeated listens, to be enjoyed on a continuous loop, the percussion acting less like a hello and a goodbye and more like a hook and eye clasp of a necklace. Crow Follow celebrates the single with the official release party the day after it hits the streams, on Saturday, September 6 at The Jungle in Somerville, on an inspired bill featuring Thalia Zedek, Happy Little Clouds, and Lonely Leesa and the Lost Cowboys. The band then takes their low-rock down to New York City for a September 25 show at Parkside Lounge for Anne Husick’s birthday bash before rolling back north to Lowell’s Worthen Attic in November.

When I’m working through something complicated, I always find myself at the piano—and this time, that feeling became a song.”

Kane’s roots are in the theatre—she’s the co-creator and lyricist of “this old haunt”, a folk musical and 2025 O’Neill semifinalist. Previously, it has had an academic premiere at Carnegie Mellon University, workshopped through NYU’s Tisch New Theatre, Fort Salem Theatre, as well as participated in the Latiné Musical Theatre Lab and Prospect Theater Company’s New Musical Mixtape concert. Maggie was a finalist for 2024’s international songwriting competition Write Out Loud Across all her original work, Kane explores coming of age and the female experience with a voice that’s been described as poetic and raw.

We first fell in love with the authentic and vibrant sounds of Los Angeles based 2 piece rock band, Royal She ( vocalist Alison Freed and multi -instrumentalist Alexandria Reyes) back last October , with their authentic and honest vibrant single, “My Ex” . Some bands try to get by with smoke and mirrors…. Not Royal She. They are 100 percent the real deal and it show with everything they release. It has been an absolute pleasure to watch them grow their artistry .

We even had the pleasure of interviewing Royal She, back in December, where Alison, shared with us the creative process of Royal She, “It’s really a joint effort and a beautiful, connected experience. When writing, Alex started playing a riff and I started singing melodies and lyrics. For the most part Alex writes the music and I write the vocal melodies and lyrics. We both are involved in every step of the production and mixing of each song”

With the arrival of the new album, “Befores and Afters “ what listeners get is an album that shows off a band in Royal She, that is firing on all cylinders and it is breathtakingly brilliant.

The first one is “Let Her Go” Some songs you fall hopelessly in love with the first time you hear them…. “Let Her Go” is one of those songs . Flawless vocals, perfect melodies this song is an absolute masterpiece.

The second song is “Healing Anthem “ in our opinion this is Royal She at their absolute best . “Healing Anthem “ delivers an important and authentic call for unity and resilience, which is needed more than ever .

Known for her distinctive sound that fuses the intimacy of folk with the complexity of math rock, Harner brings a rare mix of technical mastery and emotional honesty to everything she creates.

The 5-track EP—featuring previously released singles “False Alarm” and “Do It” alongside three new songs, “Yes Man,” “Lifetimes,” and “Again“—is a coming-of-age body of work shaped by emotional upheaval, self-examination, and quiet resilience.

“‘Taking My Side’ is a collection of songs from a time in my life when I was going through some big changes,” Harner shares. “The title is a reference to the song ‘Yes Man,’ which is about a friendship gone awry. To me, ‘taking my side’ means putting myself first, not being such a pushover, and recognizing when someone is working against me. In many ways this record is a mantra for myself.”

On April 1, 1995, an unforgettable celebration of surf music history took place at the iconic Lighthouse Café in Hermosa Beach. Now, for the first time, this remarkable event will be available on vinyl, CD and digital, via Oglio Records for fans around the world to experience. Legends of Surf Guitar captures a pivotal moment when original surf pioneers and revivalists joined forces to celebrate the music that defined a generation. In the late 1970s and early ’80s, a new wave of surf instrumental revival bands — including Jon & The Nightriders, The Surf Raiders, The Malibooz, Los Straightjackets and others — reignited interest in the genre, setting the stage for events like this. Building on the momentum from films like Pulp Fiction and a surge of surf-centric radio shows, producer/radio host Les Perry and surf legend Paul Johnson organized the Lighthouse Surf Band Reunion, creating a once-in-a-lifetime musical homecoming.

The event brought together original players from the 1960s and the 1980s revival scene, including legendary names such as The Chantays, The Surfaris, Davie Allan & The Arrows, and special guests like Bob Dalley of The Surf Raiders and Bob Demmon of The Astronauts. Supporting the performers was a stellar backline featuring Don Murray (The Crossfires, The Turtles), Pete Curry (The Halibuts, Los Straitjackets), and John Blair (Jon & The Nightriders), who also co-produced the release alongside renowned engineer Mark Linett (The Beach Boys, Los Lobos, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Los Straitjackets).

Captured live,Legends of Surf Guitaroffers a vibrant, reverb-soaked journey through surf classics like “Mr. Moto,” “Wipe Out,” and “Pipeline,” as well as newer favorites from the genre’s revival era. The energy in the packed Lighthouse Café was electric, with dancers filling every inch of the floor and smiles all around — a scene lovingly recalled by special guest Elliot Easton of The Cars,who attended and contributed to the day’s recordings.

Legends of Surf Guitar is more than a concert recording — it’s a living document of a genre that continues to inspire musicians and fans alike. Featuring rare performances by some of surf music’s original and most revered figures, this release stands as a vibrant reminder of the enduring power and joyful spirit of surf guitar.

We were instantly captivated by the beautiful tones and vibes from singer-songwriter, Lily Fitts . Lily has a fresh yet familiar indie-folk/ alternative country sound that immediately warmed our music loving soul.

Across the 10 tracks on “Getting By”, Lily pairs warm acoustic textures with unflinching lyrical vulnerability, offering a raw and honest perspective on life’s ups and downs.

Lovina Falls has a simple message for those seeking some kind of comfort in this unsteady, overwhelming, and uninspired 2025: “The world is blowing up, so find yourself and your people and move forward together, regardless, and in spite of, the chaos around.”

We couldn’t agree more …. Lovina Falls, the dark and whimsical dream-pop and art-rock project from Boston singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Valerie Forgione, which returns to the streams with their first new music of 2025 in “Light and Low,” a rousing jaunt of electronic sounds, harpsichord, and dizzying propulsion that hits the streams on Friday, June 13. The track arrives before the official release party later that night, held at Deep Cuts in Medford alongside The Daylilies and RoseR.

At its core, “Light and Low” relays an internal vision to keep moving, to push forward, and power through with a sense of community and compassion. It certainly does not hurt that one can dance to it.

“‘Light and Low’ is about recognizing that as time goes on, it’s ok to let go of old and ‘historic thinking’ to create a new path through and out of the Thicket of Now,” Forgione says. “It’s about knowing that when things change, the path is not predestined. Change the change. Move with conviction but head gracefully into the unknown, light and low.”

“Light and Low” continues to position Lovina Falls as a collaborative project, where Forgione performs most of the instrumentation in the studio before it blossoms on stage with the live band. What began as a solo outlet to attempt a reconnection into her past as a path forward has now evolved and emerged into a full-fledged ensemble, playing shows routinely and emerging as one of Boston’s most dynamic live on-stage septets.

And live on stage, where the Lovina Falls sound truly emerges, the band swells to a consuming wall of sound and melody, featuring two other fellow Mistle Thrush members in guitarist Scott Patalano and bassist Matt Klain, and joined by Carrie Ingber on keys, Chuck Ferreira on drums, Brenden Cobb also on guitar, and Laura England Klain and Emily Drohan on vocals

On “Light and Low”, Forgione performs vocals, piano, harpsichord, keyboards, bass, and drum programming, and is joined by fellow Mistle Thrush bandmate and drummer Todd Demma, now of Chameleons, alongside Cobb on tremolo guitar and co-producer David Minehan on additional guitar.

There is something very important and worthy about “Light and Low”, from Lovina Falls, it is a much needed message that artfully cuts through the static and beautifully announces its importance.

Over the past few months, we have had the extraordinary opportunity to witness the musical brilliance of 22-year-old UK-born, San Diego-based singer-songwriter, Pip Lewis. Today that brilliance reaches new heights as she has released her sophomore full-length album Growing Pains via Enci Records.

Every song on “Growing Pains”, from Pip Lewis, is an amazing gift that we felt deep within our music loving soul.

A sonic autobiography,” Pip says of the album. “It’s basically my journal for the years 2021–23. It’s woven with the fibers of my identity as an artist and as a person, and with pieces of what my life looked like at the time of writing it.”Across ten emotionally resonant tracks, Growing Pains explores themes of love in its many forms—the presence of love, the absence of love, the loss of love, and the rediscovery of it—as well as the quiet upheaval that comes with change.

Listening to the new self-titled EP, from aibai&vinny is mesmerizing experience that we throughly enjoyed from beginning to end.

The new self-titled EP is a dreamlike fusion of indie folk and ethereal soundscapes. Inspired by themes of nostalgia, introspection, love and personal growth their songs blend celestial soundscapes with raw, heartfelt storytelling, drawing from personal experiences and emotions. Sonically, their sound is influenced by a mix of indie folk artists, and indie electronic artists, blending organic folk elements with lush, atmospheric production. The duo shares, “Our debut EP really captures the sound and style we’ve been working toward. Each song fits together sonically, creating a cohesive sound, yet they all have their own unique vibe. The songs tell genuine stories about love and relationships, and we hope they resonate with people in a way that feels personal and timeless.”

Every song on the EP, felt like it’s own separate experience. The melodies were otherworldly and stayed with us after the music had ended .

Our favorite song on the EP, is the closing track, “Story’s good-alt version “ We loved the easy flow of the song . We also heard a lil Neil Young vibe on the track which we really enjoyed.

The self-titled EP, from, aibai & vinny, is in our opinion one of the best ways to spend 15 minutes of your day.

Andy Stochansky, has this unique level of coolness in his music that we absolutely love , it shines beautifully on “Like The Sun”

Stochansky explains, “It’s a song about admonishing one’s self for not telling the other person in the relationship that you love them enough. At the end of the chorus, I wanted the feeling of love to be warm and beautiful like the sun.”

Known for his vivid lyrics and organic instrumentation, Andy captures the wonder of everyday life through music. On Poetry Of Birds, he embraces simplicity and the natural world, a response to the overwhelming pace of modern life. “Nature can teach us everything we need,” he shares. “Poetry Of Birds is a reminder to notice the beauty around us.”

Throughout his career, the Toronto native has built an impressive resume: seven years touring and recording with Ani DiFranco, acclaimed solo albums like Radio Fusebox and 5 Star Motel, and co-writing global hits such as “Shine” (covered by Shannon Noll, an eight-week #1 in Australia). We immediately fell for the incredibly soul sound of singer-songwriter Jon Muq and his beautifully crafted new single , “Hear My Voice.

“These days the world is sad, so I wanted to make happy songs,” says singer/songwriter JON MUQ. “I wanted to write songs that connected with the listener in a very personal way. When someone listens to my music, it’s not just about me and what I’m singing… I think these songs can speak many languages, depending on what you want from them.”

Music is part of a larger conversation Jon Muq is engaging in with the world. Drawing from African as well as Western musical trends and traditions, he creates songs as offerings to the world, designed to settle into everyday life and provoke reflection and resilience. Muq explains, “This song is about the appreciation of my voice being heard as a migrant moving to and navigating a fast-paced new culture. If you have an opportunity, let your voice be heard.”

Waiting For Smith, is the musical project of Harry Lloyd, a British artist whose journey has been shaped by both extraordinary challenges and transformative experiences. After breaking his back at 24 and spending a year in recovery, Lloyd rediscovered his passion for music, picking up the guitar and writing songs with newfound purpose.

His eclectic life path – from traveling across the world, learning languages, and becoming a ski instructor, to overcoming mental health struggles and healing in South Africa – has deeply influenced his music. Jamie James has had a rich and varied musical career, best known for his work with DQ and The Sharks (featuring actor Dennis Quaid), his long-time collaborations with the late Harry Dean Stanton, his role as a touring member of Steppenwolf in the late ’70s, and as the lead singer and founding member of the LA-based rockabilly trio Kingbees—the band behind the hit “My Mistake.”

On his upcoming 10-track solo LP, Straight Up, James reunites with his DQ and The Sharks bandmates—Tom Walsh (drums), Ken Stange (organ), and Tom Mancillas(bass)—with Jamie on guitar and harmonica.

The first single, “Let The Praying Begin” from Jamie James is an absolute religious experience. Jamie James, puts his whole heart and soul into his music and it is a beautiful thing.

The music video, was filmed at the historic Bellforge Arts Center in Massachusetts.

Spear and longtime collaborator Will Hall shot “The Number One Song In Heaven” video at Bellforge Arts Center in Medfield, the historic site of the former Medfield State Hospital that is now a blossoming creative arts hub.

“My two aesthetic touchstones for that were the black and white scenes from the Powell & Pressburger movie A Matter of Life And Death, and the bathtub Mary statues you see in suburban homes throughout the commonwealth,” Spear says with a laugh. “I wanted something both otherworldly and old, and I think the weathered bricks and the pastoral shots of cloudy skies and open fields captured that feeling!”

There is something absolutely breathtaking beautiful about the new single “Setting Sun”, from The Butterfly Graveyard.

Delicate and delicious, Irish alt-rock artist The Butterfly Graveyard is located somewhere between The Blue Nile, Jeff Buckley and the deep blue sea. He makes a fragile music, soft as a butterfly’s wing but sometimes rough and uneven like the underbelly of a leaf, translucent when held up under the light.

The vocals from The Butterfly Graveyard, on “Setting Sun” are magnificently brilliant, we were literally in awe.

Setting Sun is a song about making the most of the time we are given. It is a song of two halves. The first half is written from an individual point of view where the character is looking forward, trying to get stuff done and at the same time looking back with a sense of loss. The second half is more Universal in the sense it could almost be written by a Major Tom like character,who is looking down from space in complete dismay at the earth’s resources being plundered and pillaged. This character is seeing raging forest fires, the earth drowning in flash floods and polar bears being stranded on melting ice caps. So in a way the song is a rallying call to protect the earth in this so called ‘Golden Age ‘ of drilling. It’s about ‘we’ as a collective, trying to get things done before the human race runs out of road and the sun sets on the earth for the very last time.”

You need to immediately stop what you are doing and get yourself lost in the incredible beauty of “Setting Sun”, from The Butterfly Graveyard.

To say we were instantly captivated by “Lost My Head–Rediscovered”, from indie pop sensation Coastal Club, is a massive understatement.Known for their infectious guitar-driven hooks and uplifting, high-spirited anthems. Sometimes music is so beautiful and perfect that it can literally take your breath away , this is absolutely the case with “Islands” from singer-songwriter Ski Team. The stunning layered song is a lush hymn and the counterpart to her previous single “Me“.

Ski Team is the solo moniker of Lucie Lozinski, an independent songwriter, singer, producer, and guitarist who’s known for her yearning lyrics, crystalline voice, and gritty instrumentation. American Songwriter has described her music as “… a quasi-Americana sound, combining traditional folk and rock elements with undeniably modern soundscapes.”

She shares, “I wrote “Islands” while producing “Me”—the bass sounded like crickets, and I started looping it and singing over it. The improvised melody and harmony had something so sweet and somber about it. Then we just rapid fire layered harmonies, all unplanned, just whatever I felt like singing. I think that improvised spirit of listening and just doing what feels right—whatever comes out—is what makes this song so special. There was very little planning and designing it. I just sang a song from the soul into the mic, and you can feel that.”

Besides the beautiful harmonies on “Islands” what stood out to us was the brilliant use of subtle ambient noise on the track that added such a wonderful dimension to an already stellar song .

Ski Team collaborated with producer Daniel Knowles (Sharon Van Etten, Cigarettes After Sex) on the new single.

Sam shares, shares, “The song was written from a moment. I had spent most of the year on the road, and had just made it back to Nashville from a long run of shows when I heard that there had been a shooting near my house. I was home alone all day after an amazing trip, visiting places that felt so different from where I had grown up in NH, and I started strumming. The song just flowed from there, and I think that’s where the simple, direct nature of the lyrics and message came from – just trying to be in the moment and capture my feelings in a very divided world.”

“What a Little Love Can Do” is the leading single off of his forthcoming album “So Much I Still Don’t See” Sam comments , “It is based around my touring over the past four years – driving 45,000 miles per year, meeting so many people from so many different backgrounds and perspectives than me, a guy in his 20’s from New Hampshire,”

Coming from the historical area of Somerset (UK) Sergeant Thunderhoof have yet again delved deep into local history, mythology and folklore to deliver their most focussed album to date. “The Ghost of Badon Hill” is a true conceptual piece, set in the 4th Century AD and positively charged with raw emotion and Arthurian mysticism. Recorded with Josh Gallop (who recently became an official member of the band) at Stage 2 Studios in Bath and mastered by Tony Reed (Mos Generator), their new LP sees the band exploring wider and more textured sonic landscapes, whilst conceptually delving into Somerset’s famous Battle of Badon.

We were literally hanging on every note and word on “The Ghost Of Badon Hill” Sergeant Thunderhoof have created an absolute masterpiece.

Discussing the lyrical themes explored throughout the album vocalist and lyricist Dan Flitcroft says: “This new album feels to me like our most focussed and thoughtful release to date. In the past we’ve not had any limitations when it comes to song lengths and structures as we didn’t have a label calling the shots. But one thing that I knew was needed for this album was to set some boundaries. Foremost of which was the ability to get it onto two sides of vinyl, as opposed to us having to put most of our previous works onto double packages due to the sheer length of the songs.

“So, knowing that we only had 22 minutes or so per side to play with, it forced us to take the songs we had been jamming and sort the wheat from the chaff. Anything that felt unnecessary or superfluous was scrapped, with every moment on the record needing to justify its own place. I came across the theme for the album by sheer accident when out walking with my family. I had no idea that Bath was a possible location for a real-life battle between the Britons and invading Anglo Saxons, on what was known as Badon Hill. There are a few prominent hills in and around our city that have been suggested as possible locations, famously Peter Gabriel sang about Solsbury Hill many years ago, and that is such a special and romantic place to visit”.

Sergeant Thunderhoof does a brilliant job in bringing this epic tale to life . Highlighted by otherworldly vocals and spectacular melodies, “The Ghost Of Badon Hill “ is destined to become an instant classic.

WORK consists of Julio Tavarez and Joe Zizzo who also make up the rhythm section of the grammy award winning band Bob Moses. Their sound is a bombastic collage of various influences including dance music, punk and indie rock.

We were first introduced to Maya Ixta this past June with her single “Say Your Mine” (which, is included on “Diary Entries” )

After we heard “Say Your Mine” back in June, we remember being completely enchanted with the style and sound of Maya Ixta… Now that we have heard the rest of the songs on “Diary Entries “ we can honestly say we have fallen deeper in love with the original style and sound of Maya Ixta and it is on full display on “Diary Entries for all the world to hear and… it’s pure magic

The EP opens with the hauntingly beautiful intro ( we had absolute chills ) “First Entry”, an acapella track that sets the stage for the diary-inspired journey. Featuring Maya’s soulful vocals layered with harmonies, the song concludes with the evocative sound of paper tearing from her actual diary—a metaphor for the iterative process of songwriting and self-expression.

We thought that Maya absolutely shined on the EP’s lead single “Time” . On “Time” you really get to see the heart and soul of Maya Ixta’s artistry . “Time,” marks the first bilingual song off the project. This track features a captivating guitar solo by Maya’s mentor and producer, Daniel Jimenez Alfandor, and evolves into a vibrant mix of instrumentation and Spanish-inspired rhythmic intricacies. With its poignant message about the importance of carving out time for oneself amid life’s demands, “Time” is both a call to live fully and a reminder to nurture mental well-being.

In “Little Things,” Maya reflects on the rapid pace of modern life, urging listeners to appreciate the simple, often overlooked moments. The song begins with whispered, almost oceanic vocals that slowly wash over warm harmonies. As she croons, “Little things are all I ever notice / and simple things are all I never focus on,” the instrumentation morphs. Kobra Paige who is the lead singer for Canadian heavy metal band Kobra And The Lotus , has crafted an extraordinary new album with “Like No Other “

Kobra Paige artfully and beautifully tells incredibly compelling stories throughout “Like No Other” She is a singer songwriter with a message and a melody that needs to be heard .

We were instantly drawn in the magic of “Like No Other “ from the first note of “Rebirth Intro” ( which was absolutely spellbinding) and the energy continued till the last note of “Genesis”

Through song and deliberate visuals, this body of work aims to encourage self-liberation without abandoning the world. Kobra believes music plays an integral role in connecting, elevating, and healing humanity, offering a pathway to both personal transformation and collective unity. By intertwining powerful melodies with thought-provoking imagery, the project seeks to inspire individuals to embrace their true selves while fostering a deeper sense of empathy and understanding within the global community.

This paid tribute to a part of Kobra’s upbringing which involved many years of seva (service), with her family, at an ashram in southern India.

We also loved how every song had this epic cinematic quality. We could picture “Under One Sun being part of a blockbuster film .

One of our favorite songs on the record is the beautifully written “23” We love everything about this song . Kait gives a stunning vocal performance that is otherworldly “23” has all the elements that make Kait Warner stand out in a musical landscape that is at times mundane.

Rodeo Clown was recorded at Business District Recording in Johnson City, New York, a space bursting at the seams with a wild assortment of vintage gear and musical instrument curiosities—many of which were used during the sessions. Jehry Robinson Absolutely Soars With New Single & Video – “Pilot”

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out the new single and video “Pilot” from Strange Music artist Jehry Robinson.

From note one “Pilot” from Jehry Robinson, you can sense immediately that you are in for an absolute gem. We love the style and sound of Jehry Robinson, it is exactly what is needed in today’s somewhat mundane musical landscape.

On the track, nimbly plucked guitar gives way to a head-nodding beat kickstarted by simmering cymbals. Jehry alternates between hummable melodies and airtight rhymes on the verses. However, his vocals really take flight on the chantable chorus, “I think we’re going down, so I went to see the pilot cause I been getting tired, let’s turn this plane around.” In the accompanying visual, Jehry assumes the multiple roles of passengers on a commercial flight, breaking through the turbulence as our hero confronts the man at the wheel (who just so happens to be him).

About “Pilot,” he commented, “It’s about being the pilot of your own life and you can always turn it around. You’re in control to follow your destiny.” That’s exactly what he’s doing…

“Pilot”, notably arrives on the heels of his 2023 album, Drink More Water. The latter has already amassed over 2 million streams and counting. Meanwhile, it earned widespread critical acclaim.

We were also so blessed to be able to share so much amazing music . We have made the difficult decision to put the blog on the back burner. At this time we need to focus on other important matters. This record is the soundtrack to executive producer Norty Cohen’s immersive rock opera about an alien invasion and its undeniable connection to rock and roll. Amplifier Heads leader and Boston music scene icon Sal Baglio has crafted a masterclass in extra-terrestrial rock with a sound that spans decades, compiling an all-star crew — Dave Mattacks, Jen D’Angora, Dan Kopko, Barrence Whitfield, Richard Hilton (Nile Rogers Band), Henley Douglas Jr., and Tom West (Peter Wolf) — for a 10-track, eight transmission interlude record.

First debuting in Nashville three years ago and receiving praise from Rolling Stone, Cohen’s theatrical production of They Came To Rock details a story about friendly little green men coming to Earth – which they call The Vinyl Frontier – in search of the type of music heard through static and noise on their radio.

We first came into contact with “Songs From They Came To Rock “ by way of the epic title track “They Came To Rock,” featuring Barrence Whitfield.

“Songs From They Came To Rock is very different from all of my previous Amplifier Heads records which are essentially recorded solo with the assistance of one or two other musicians,” says Baglio. “With it being a soundtrack, I chose to work with many good friends which gives the record an entirely varied and different sound than anything prior.”

There’s Whitfield declaring arrival with a soul dynamo fever on the title track; D’Angora shaking out a ‘60s retro-pop bop in “Something Went Down,” about the most famous UFO event in England’s history, taking places at Rendlesham Forest on Christmas 1980; and a ‘70s psych-glam transmission through “Bienvenue” and Kopko’s “Dead Star.” Early single “Space Cadette,” a riff-rocking shaker that landed in 2022 and received heavy airplay and attention on Little Steven’s Underground Garage on SiriusXM, details Betty and Barney Hill’s 1961 encounter of a UFO on a deserted highway in New Hampshire.

But sometimes we come across a collection of music that is Beyond LOVE it’s so good, that it’s next level. “The Red Angel“ from Boston and Phoenix melodic noise-rock duo , Canyons and Locusts definitely fits that description.

We have been slowly falling deeper and deeper in love with the electrifying music from “The Red Angel”, due in part to a quartet of singles dating back to last fall. The six song EP, is only 13 minutes in length but the number of emotions you feel during the EP is truly endless. “The Red Angel” is the kind of EP, that is absolutely everything and then some. Melodically and sonically perfect in every possible way .

From the opening of “To Art Bell” all the way through to “Wave Out Sunkiss “ the listener is taken on a breathtakingly awesome musical journey that you won’t soon forget . The songs are loud , catchy and perfect .

“Soo All The Way” is a such a memorable and catchy gem , that we have caught ourselves on numerous occasions busting out the chorus in the most unexpected places. ( Your Welcome aisle 12 at Market Basket) Honestly, from top to bottom “The Red Angel” doesn’t disappoint.

We found ourselves going back to all six tracks again and again, music this good shouldn’t be left unplayed. We really fell a connection with the track “Donna Summer “ the longest song on the EP comes across so heartfelt it’s hard not get emotional .

But underneath the tense, barnstorming surface is a tender core, one that finds vocalist and guitarist Justin Keane and drummer Amy Young bound by common interests – a feverish approach to crafting gritty, weathered rock and roll; a genuine trust in the other’s ability to understand the Canyons and Locusts core sonic identity; and a mutual love and appreciation for Justine Covault, the late Red on Red Records founder who passed away last summer, less than a year after her label released their debut album, Roll The Dice, in 2022.

“If we were making any statement with this record, it would be to just make loud, heartfelt noise in service to and in honor of your feelings, the people in your corner, and the things and people you love and who love you back,” says Keane.

And Young agrees, adding: “I think both in honor of Justine and aligning with our personal approaches to life, it’s just about doing what you want – things that don’t hurt anyone, don’t trample on anything, and are just pure acts of making the music you want with the people you want to and hoping that people can feel what it means to us…or even just get a line stuck in their head and come back for more.”

Its title a not-so-subtle nod to Covault’s colorful hair color and personal brand, The Red Angel is a cathartic release of pent-up tension, a fiery and impassioned record that redefines notions of “noise-rock” and ignores convention

On “Mind & Body,” Tolü’s strong, soulful vocals take center stage, elevated by a lush bed of ethereal production. Sometimes an album comes into our lives that is much more than a record but, more of a musical experience. The latest album “Dryas” from Massachusetts experimental electronic music producer and multi-instrumentalist Jon Chesbro.

Jon Chesbro delivers brilliance right out of the gate with “Dryas” as he has delivered an artist’s life hack, merging all eight tracks on his forthcoming album “Dryas” into one singular listening experience.

It’s a bit of a journey, an expansive evolution of sound and atmosphere that finds the Massachusetts multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer exploring the more experimental side of electronic music through aural dalliances with indie, jazz, blues, synth-pop, and other genres. Whether consumed as one long continuous sonic journey or broken up into eight songs that emerge like chapters, the mostly instrumental “Dryas” is an outlier in today’s music world, and Chesbro is finally ready to set it free today (Friday, February 23.)

Many artist claim to have many different influences on an album. However, you can really feel the different genres on “Dryas” Jon Chesbro is a master sculpture of music who effortlessly brings it all together to present a stunning collection of musical nirvana.

“I’ve been waiting for this for way too long,” admits Chesbro. “So to finally get this album done and feel good about it makes me feel complete – and happy that I have a full project to share. If you lay back and listen to this record as one continuous track, it’ll put you through space, no question. But if you’re looking for a specific feeling in a song, you’re likely to find that too.”

For Chesbro, every note is a brushstroke on the canvas of emotion. And while Dryas is a departure from his work as guitarist for the Massachusetts band Derek Smith and the Cosmic Vultures, Chesbro is excited to showcase a new complexity and depth in his solo musical compositions. Lead single “MarchToVictory”, featuring Smith on guest vocals, dropped on New Year’s Day, and a pair of visualizers, the aforementioned “MarchToVictory” and “IntoTheMirror,”

“It all kinda happened organically,” Chesbro says of Dryas. “I was in this really creative mindset for a long time. When inspiration strikes, I don’t stop, I just let the floodgates open up. From a writing perspective, these songs came from desperation. I only had a laptop. A guitar and an interface. I used to have this nice big studio with speakers but as I kept chasing dreams my studio got smaller. I had to create with what little I had.”Chesbro wrote, mixed, mastered, produced Dryas himself, and performed all its instrumentation across its eight tracks. His musical journey began in the church as a young child, singing hymns in the choir and listening to his mother and grandmother play together on the keyboard and organ. With his mother’s urging and support, his life took shape and his personality was developed around playing the guitar.

From the atmospheric, string-laden soundscapes of “CherryBlossom” to the more upbeat and funk-leaning “SpeedOfLight,” Chesbro cycles through his creative rolodex with relative ease, each song blending into the next and further establishing his core identity. It’s a wide-ranging and eclectic spectrum of sounds, all linked together by Chesbro as the core conductor, blending modern electronics and production with an old-school songwriting sensibility.

Close Talker has been an integral aspect to the individual lives of Will, Matthew, and Chris. The project that started as a passion for three friends in 2012 has become formative to their identities. I thought that that was a great title and general concept to anchor the song around. The song is about two people who’ve been chasing after each other for years but the stars never align until this one fated night where they are chasing after some magic that has been eluding them,” says Dave Derby

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, guitarist /singer-songwriter/producer/recovery advocate Ricky Byrd(inducted in 2015 with Joan Jett and The Blackhearts), has had a career in music spanning over 40 years.

Although best known for his time spent with The Blackhearts, Byrd has also recorded and played with Roger Daltrey and toured with Ian Hunter and Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes respectively. He has also been blessed to have had the chance to, at one time or another, share the stage with music royalty including Paul McCartney, Ringo, Alice Cooper, Bruce Springsteen, Steven Van Zandt, Joe Walsh, Mavis Staples, Dion, Brian Wilson, Smokey Robinson, Jimmy Page, Graham Nash, Sam Moore, Steve Miller and Elvis Costello…to name just a few.

Byrd’s new single “Rhapsody In Blues (One for Jeff)” is an instrumental tribute to his guitar hero, the late Jeff Beck. The track follows the release of his recent digital/7″ singles “Louanne”, “Alien” and “Glamdemic Blues”, which featured a b-side cover of the Four Tops‘ classic “Reach Out (I’ll Be There).

Byrd says, “The only way I felt I could properly pay tribute to Jeff Beck, whose playing has inspired me my whole life, was to record this track dedicated to him. This is a track I felt I needed to write. I did it as a thank you to Jeff. He was such an important part of the process for me as a guitar player. First as a teenager discovering all this cool new music I was soaking up, trying to learn a riff here and there (the easy ones ;)), to all these many years later where I’m still in awe of where he took guitar playing. And yes I’m still trying (mostly unsuccessfully) to nick one of his riffs. Thanks again Guv’nor”- Byrd

Donna confides on the release, “Before undergoing radiation treatment for breast cancer, my body was mapped with four tattoos marking the exact spot where the radiologist would direct their beams. Mine were tiny, but my first tattoos ever! The anxiety leading up to the first session was overwhelming, and there were quite a few, 5 days a week for 5 weeks. But once I was on that treatment table, it transformed into my meditation time. With every deep breath in, holding the breath, and then the exhale, I became attuned to the red radiation lights, imagining them obliterating every speck of cancer dust in my body.”
