Scumbags Deliver Epic New Album “So Many Ways…”

We recently had the opportunity to check out the killer new album “So Many Ways..” from Brazilian punks Scumbags . You can listen to “So Many Ways..” on Spotify Here and on Apple Music Here

If we’re being honest … listening to “So Many Ways..” from Scumbags was probably the best 39 minutes and 56 seconds we have spent in a while .

“So Many Ways..” is the band’s second album and while it has the same melodiand sonic goodness from their first record “Sour Days” there is definitely signs of maturity on “So Many Ways”

“I think that since our first album, Sour Days, we have matured a lot in terms of composition and arrangements. We started hearing new references and brought them to our songs.” reports Chris Oliveira, the band’s drummer.

This maturity is already evident in production. Part of the album was recorded at Forest Lab, in Rio de Janeiro, a studio specialized in completely analog recording. And another part was recorded at Eletric Meduza, a recording studio located in Brusque, Santa Catarina, which also works with analogue elements in the recordings.

For Chris, the new songs will bring a different feel to what people are used to hearing in Scumbags. “The upcoming album will bring a new aesthetic to the band, a new sound. No longer the 90s punk rock that we are used to playing, but we are going to bring more risky and different things.”

Right from start, “So May Ways..”delivers … The title track “So Many Ways..” kicks off an album full of pure punk rock bliss.

Scumbags have a familiar sound but they have a style that is all their own, and it absolutely kicks ass .

Standout tracks on the album include “Elected”, “Sticks And Stones” , Through This Sidewalk and “Remedy”

So find a good spot and loose yourself in the punk brilliance of Scumbags.

We were beyond honored to check out the new EP “keep ‘er lit” via Rum Bar Records from Boston based rock band Girl With A Hawk .

Our first introduction to Girl With A Hawk was back this past January when the band released the absolutely beautiful and heartfelt track “Same Stars” since then we have fallen deeply for the amazing brand of rock that Linda Viens and company bring to the table.

Featuring five tracks, including four prior singles, like last month’s “Feel Me,” the EP is a showcase for Girl with a Hawk’s engaging and infectious brand of rock and roll, which sometimes veers into new wave territory, other times into emotive guitar-pop, Americana, and modern rock. It’s a record of perseverance, and its title, keep ‘er lit, taken from an old Irish expression that loosely translates to “do not stop,” is a reflection of that attitude.

There is this genuine authenticity that seems to be woven deep in the musical DNA of Girl With A Hawk that, we absolutely love. What you get is real music that touches your heart and soul with each memorable note , all of which is front and center on “keep’er lit”

In our opinion “keep’er lit” is proof positive why Linda Viens has one of the best voices out there period. She sings with an energy and passion that is like no other voice in music today.

“All the songs on the EP are about surviving the vagaries of fate as well as taking responsibility for choices made, etc., about the search for identity and wholeness (and in some cases; sobriety), and about finding some kind of peace and comfort through knowing one is not actually alone, even though in tough times, we can feel alone,” Viens says. “It’s also about the many ways we are connected to our loved ones, and rooting for them, even if separated in physical time and space. There are a lot of parallel themes with keep ‘er lit and Justine and the Unclean’s record, The Signal Light – addiction, depression, and surviving life’s tough losses and challenges.”

The experience has brought the band even closer together. In Girl with a Hawk, the singer-and-guitarist Viens is joined by keyboardist Richard Lamphear, drummer Nancy Delaney, and guitarist Dan Coughlin. Original bassist Lee Harrington, who appears on the record, has since been smoothly replaced by Daniel Bernfeld. Their shared chemistry is evident across keep ‘er lit – from the emotive draw of “Same Stars” to the pop-rock buoyancy of “The Romantic” to the new wave flair of “Feel Me.” Viens says despite it all, the writing and recording process for this record has been joyous, with the band coming together for the music they’re creating.

If You are a music lover, then you need to listen to “keep ‘er lit” from Girl With A Hawk , it is absolute work of art .

Vinyl Station has this real special almost otherworldly energy about them , and it is certainly present in their latest single “Here Comes Your Ghost “ which, is out today, (December 8th ) via H1 Massive.

For some, the “Ghost” in question could be the band’s past, as a handful of fan-favorite tunes comprise the quartet’s forthcoming EP Answer Slow, set for unveiling in Spring 2024. But it could also be something a bit more pure: A return to the sensation of hearing something truly great, the feeling we once had when we first heard the seminal bands and records that shaped us into the people we became.

Vinyl Station, with its arena-ready, cerebral indie rock that harkens back to the songwriting ambition and grandeur of the likes of U2, Coldplay, The National, Band of Horses, and other luminaries, is ready to take that next step into our hearts and playlists. That “Here Comes Your Ghost” leads the band’s reemergence, complete with a fresh and polished re-recording by its newly-minted lineup – songwriter, singer and guitarist Matthew Thornton; drummer Roy Cameron; guitarist Sturgis Waters; and bassist Patrick Andrew – is a bit of a coincidence, given its title. But it’s no less impactful as a result.

“I am really excited about sharing these songs with the world, and putting something out which represents the band in its current form,” says singer, songwriter, and guitarist Matthew Thornton. “These are the first recordings with the current members of Vinyl Station, and I think the recording of the Answer Slow EP and the album to follow has been an incredibly rewarding creative endeavor.”

Adds Cameron: “I think the EP turned out great despite us having to piece the recording together over several months due to scheduling conflicts. In this regard, the recording process was different than usual for a creative band but not uncommon these days.”

“Here Comes Your Ghost” from Vinyl Station is a solid well written rock song that you can’t help but want to hear again and again . Definitely a song you need to hear … trust us your ears will thank you .

SOHMA is the love child of best buds and long-time collaborators Jess Kenny and Mike Baron. Lifelong musicians, Jess and Mike have been through a lot of ups and downs in their artistic journey. But adversity has fostered a powerful friendship built on self-expression and connecting with people across the world through music.

“Overexposure” is one those songs that you just can shake . We can neither confirm or deny if we have sang along while waiting in the bank line . (But we can confirm that this song is off the charts)

Vocalist Jess Kenny explains about the shimmery track, “’Overexposure’ is a song that talks about the reality of going through the heavy things life throws at you while trying to remain open and soft towards the world, a scary and vulnerable reality.”

Overexposure” is SOHMA’s first single debut, via 7hz Recordings. The track is paired with a video of the duo in their home studio performing the floating bubbly track. SOHMA is fused with similar sounds of The Sundays’ ethereal shimmer and Belle & Sebastian’s bright pop hooks. The duo is planning on releasing more music in 2024!

THOMAS NICHOLAS BAND are currently writing original songs for their 7th studio album being produced by Taylor Carroll (LIT, Kemikalfire) in collaboration with artists such as, Jaret Reddick (Bowling for Soup), Ace Enders (the Early November), Tom Higgenson (Plain White T’s) Matthew Kennedy (The Dangerous Summer) Adrian Estrella (Zebrahead), Ajay Popoff (LIT), Andrew Goldstein and more.

When asked about “Same Kids”, Thomas Nicholas shared :

The cover art is just about showing the stretch of my career and even though 30 years have passed, I still feel like the same kid. Which I think is true for us all.

The person that pops in my head is my friend from Kindergarten, who recently passed away. We would see each other every 5 years or so, and each time it was like no time had passed. It honestly still feels like he isn’t gone.

The song was a concept that Taylor Carroll had an idea for. Just about writing a song that talked about how we all still feel the same since we were kids. The chord progression and tempo gave me instant nostalgia vibes, so I just started writing lyrics about things I remember from growing up. Mixed tapes, CDs, etc

We actually wrote this song a day before Blink182 dropped their title track for their new album. I remember thinking how weird is it that I haven’t written a slower ballad type song in forever and the day I do, Blink182 is too. It was very symbiotic. The main difference is that Blink’s song is about them and “Same Kids” is meant for everyone to get nostalgic about thieir own life and memories of growing up.”

Jonah Kagen Delivers His Heartfelt New EP “The Roads”

Singer and songwriter Jonah Kagen shares his new EP, ‘The Roads,’ out today ( December 1st) on Arista Records. You can listen to “The Roads” Here

Even though he is just 23 years old , Jonah Kagen proves to be wise beyond his years,as he conveys heartfelt truths on “The Roads

The 6-track EP includes recent hit singles like “The Roads,” “Pollution,” “Made Up My Mind (ft. Lily Meola),” and “18,” as well as two brand new songs, “This Life Ain’t Easy” and “Save My Soul.” The EP’s title track, “The Roads,” has had recent momentum climbing at US Triple-A radio, with support across 15+ stations and counting, and received a stamp of approval from Zach Bryan.

Jonah continues to challenge the boundaries of folk, rock, and pop with his new EP. Pairing his signature acoustic-driven sound with heartfelt musings, Jonah captures the universally relatable feeling of trying to figure life out.

He started his US run in October with his first ever headline tour, which included sold-out shows in Charlotte and New York City, before joining Phillip Phillips as support on ‘The Drift Back’ tour. Jonah will be back on the road early next year with a run of headline shows, starting on March 18th in Kansas City. When we do a review we like to pick our favorite track . However, Maddie has made it tough because, every song is so good. But, if we had to pick it would be “Hiding Place” We can’t quite put our finger on it but this song is magical. We love the arrangement on “Hiding Place “ the music is perfectly placed and really lets Maddie’s voice shine .

It’s always so fun to find an artist that reminds us why we love music so much, for us Maddie Regent is that artist and, “Girl Of Your Dreams” is the kind of EP you want to share with everyone you know.

There is something very captivating about Australian indie pop band The Moving Stills . They bring a very warm , vibrant and familiar sound that you can’t ignore.

On their sophomore album “Wabi Sabi,”

The Moving Stills showcase a collection of songs that capture the last few years for the band in their personal lives, as well as life as a touring band. Partnering up with Izaac Wilson on production, they hone in on that Indie Pop sound as well as explore new grooves on a few of the album tracks.

The album themes cover a range of things, with everything from heartbreak to upbeat tracks that talk about love and being around your favourite people. In tracks like “Westside”, there’s mention of being on the road, which has made up a big part of the last few years for the band. They share, “We wanted to keep the honesty there on this album, and write about our experiences and so we’ve been very open in expressing our feelings in these songs.”

Speaking of their growth from their debut album, the band explains, “We wanted to introduce new feelings and vibes, to those on our first record Sunshine Corner. Whilst maintaining a lot of the key elements of our previous tunes, we delved into making a spread of new flavours. With songs like “Drive Home”, “In Your City” and the title-track “Wabi Sabi”, we leaned into a more groove based feel. Songs that you can immediately vibe out to. On the other hand, we had songs like “Volcano” and “Best Friend”, which showcases a more upbeat side to our sound. Definitely works well at gigs and on the dancefloor.”

We love everything about The Moving Stills and stunning new album “Wabi Sabi” In a world that is very unpredictable, it is refreshing to find a band like The Moving Stills.

On a mission to boost representation of Latin artists within indie music, Gen-Z rockers late night drive home officially announce their signing to Epitaph Records today. From their hometown of El Paso, Texas, the band features lead singer Andre Portillo, guitarist Juan “Ockz” Vargas, bassist Freddy Baca and drummer Brian Dolan.

They commemorate today’s news with a brand-new music video for their bilingual breakout song “Stress Relief”, which has been streamed over 60 Milliontimes to date. Evoking nostalgic pangs of 2000’s garage rock revivalists such as The Strokes or Arctic Monkeys, the lofi video-within-a-video reflects the band’s collective philosophy of creating your own reality.

The band comments, “We still really can’t understand the success of Stress Relief… of course we are grateful, though to us we still see it as the song that we made in our bedroom. It’s a very personal track, and we are just glad it was able to resonate to everyone as much as it did with us while creating it.”

We love the vibe and feel of both late night drive home and their infectious video and single “Stress Relief” While there is a familiarity with “Stress Relief” , the band brings this one of a kind energy that is simply electric.

Earthquake Lights Deliver An Absolutely Stunning New Single “Silhouette”

We recently had the opportunity to check out the new single “Silhouette” from Earthquake Lights a four-piece rock outfit from NYC.

If you are a regular reader of The Whole Kameese , then you are well aware that we don’t like to beat around the bush….. so with that being said, we must say how absolutely beautiful the new single “Silhouette” is from Earthquake Lights .

“Silhouette” has this big cinematic presence about it that simply takes our breath away.

The instrumentation, the vocals….. Everything is perfect . On “Silhouette “ Earthquake Lights is a band who is firing on all cylinders.

We love that their latest single “Silhouette” is about the search for life, penning the question, “What’s the connection between music and space?” Lead singer Myles Rodenhouse shares, “The search for life can be within yourself, within your own world but it would also be within outer space. It can be feeling like you’re always by yourself, but you find out along the way that you’re not traveling alone. EQL is always learning to make music that can be specific to every person’s lens. It is not very literal to how exactly you should interpret this song, it can be seen differently through everyone’s own lens.”

Faunea Gives An Enchanting New Single With “Jellyfish “

We recently had the opportunity to check out multi-faceted artist Faunea

Faunea comes from Danish, Peruvian, and Asian descent.

Faunea’s voice is simply otherworldly. It has been described as a delightful combination of lightly intimate yet with a surprisingly powerful dark side. Her sound is a playful universe, with an eerie electronic vibe. When her light and innocent voice occasionally breaks down in a dark and haunting feeling the contrast becomes clear, and she’s guiding the listener through the maze of a slightly manic character.

You may recognize her voice from the song “Sound Of Breaking “ which, was featured in the American Netflix series Tiny Pretty Things.

“Jellyfish” from Faunea is absolutely mesmerizing. We love the vibe and energy Faunea brings with this well crafted and well written gem.

Jellyfish” is a lyrical exploration of resilience and self-acceptance. Through its verses and chorus, the song conveys the message that Faunea has been labeled and judged by others as soft, lazy, or unintelligent, much like the perceived qualities of a Jellyfish. However, Faunea embraces her inner strength, comparing it to the regenerative abilities of a Jellyfish in the ocean’s depths. This metaphor serves as a powerful reminder that external judgments and criticisms should not define one’s self-worth. The song encourages listeners to go with the flow of life, accepting their uniqueness and ability to adapt to changing circumstances, all while holding onto their true essence. Overall, “Jellyfish” is a captivating musical statement about resilience, self-discovery, and the beauty of staying authentic in a world where everything is constantly changing.

First we much apologize for not getting our review out sooner but, we became so enthralled with the record we simply lost track of time .

We knew in our hearts the new record was going to be amazing because, we were absolutely over the moon leading up to the release of “Penelope “ We had the singles, “5”,”Ecosystem “ and “Rumblin Tummy” on such a constant rotation, we almost wore out our repeat button.

The songs on “Penelope” feel like a like a journey where you experience the wonders and joys of life , while reexamining your past all at once .

The genius of Small Crush is they skillfully craft songs that stay with you long after the music has ended .

As the album rolls on, listeners will encounter meandering tracks like “Falling,” and “Running,” embarking on a journey from bittersweet nostalgia or heartache to the saccharine, summery vibes and indie-punk fluorescence of “Be Back Soon” and “This Time Around.” Penelope is equal parts innocence and keenly perceptive philosophical musings. “Penelope, a name I called everything I could when I was little,” explains frontwoman Logan Hammon, “is filled with mixed emotions of growing out of childhood and figuring out who you are along the way. Hailing from East Los Angeles, alt-punk staples Death Lens proudly announce their signing to Epitaph Records. Comprised of Bryan Torres, Matt Silva, Jhon Reyes, and Eduardo Contreras, the foursome has three albums under their belts, a split EP with The Frights, and opened for acts such as Enjoy, Together Pangea, Cherry Glazerr, Militarie Gun and many more. Reflecting on the occasion, the band enthuses,

Coming from absolutely nothing to getting signed by a label we grew up idolizing and always dreaming we’d be on is an incredible honor. We are still in awe that we get to share our name with such a legendary roster. To be a part of this legacy is so insane… we still can’t wrap our heads around it! “I hold Vacant dear to my heart because it tells my everyday story of existing with social anxiety and relying on alcohol to break that since I was young,” Torres discloses. “Growing up with ADHD, I turned to alcohol as a way to slow my mind and feel normal around people, but it became a vice. Now that I’m older I’m trying to break that habit and try sobriety, but with sobriety comes a vacant feeling at times. My new obsession is writing and journaling how I feel to fill those voids, and that’s where the lyrics of Vacant came together.”

On their 2022 album ‘No Luck’, Death Lens were inspired by the turmoil and culmination of racial injustice of 2020. They set out to make an honest album that encapsulates the anxieties and hardships of life, while ultimately conveying a positive message that there is light at the end of the tunnel. As living proof of this themselves, the band grew up as minorities in a place with constant harassment by police and heavy gang violence. Their paths could have gone other ways, but they’ve chosen positivity and strive to be a light for their communities, their fans and each other.

We are 100% all in on Death Lens and their killer new single and video “Vacant” Death Lens has a familiar sound ( We hear shades of Rancid with a little bit of grunge . However one is crystal clear about Death Lens they bring a unique and blazing sound that is all their own, and …. We freaking love it.

Since the release of No Luck, Death Lens have been continuously reaching new heights. They performed at Treefort Fest, toured around the country with Militarie Gun and Together Pangea, and are one of the most played bands on SiriusXM Faction Punk. Their songs have been added to huge playlists on Spotify and Apple Music, with confirmed syncs in MTV’s Ridiculousness and EA’s NHL Video Game. We recently got to check out the new lyric video for “Geronimo” from Bristol (UK) rock band Little Thief, (Charlie Fitzgerald,guitar,vocals and Rhii Williams drums) created by videographer and designer Jamie Panton.

We are huge fans of the single so when we heard there was a lyric video we were pretty stoked.

Their new single “Geronimo”, produced and mixed by Ali Staton at Crossleaze Studio, was written about camaraderie in the face of adversity, inspired by old war films and team sports. The addictively frenetic new single combines thunderous drums, groove-laden basslines and sing-along anthemic choruses, a true crowd pleaser out just in time for the festival season.

Discussing the single, vocalist and lyricist Charlie Fitzgerald states: “People do incredible things when up against it and true colours often show when everything falls apart. For me, it signifies sticking together through good times and bad.

We spent a few days in the basement of our place on Albany road in Bristol working together on a bunch of new tracks and Geronimo came from that batch. It was one of the first tunes where the music came first and the lyrics followed. I really enjoyed writing the words for this as they are a bit cheesy, fun and simple with a very repetitive nature. We had the demo banging around for ages and really enjoyed playing it live.”

We recently checked out the new single “Saccharine” from Teen Idle. It is the third single from New Jersey singer-songwriter,multi-instrumentalist and producer Sara Abdelbarry’s debut album “Nonfiction “ out next month via H1 Massive.

The end-of-summer arrival of “Saccharine” aligns nicely with the track’s lyrical themes, which center around a relationship that’s starting to fade. “Saccharine” follows last month’s “Norway,” a song about being trapped in one’s hometown as an emerging adolescent and needing escape; and July’s “Birthday Cake,” where Abdelbarry watches a friend continue to make bad choices. Her latest offering glides with ease, surveying the fall of a doomed love while recalling contemporaries like Japanese Breakfast, HAIM, and Maggie Rogers.

It seems the layers of sweetness on “Saccharine “ are endless. We found ourselves absolutely mesmerized by the catchy melodies and beats that had us instantly hooked . In our opinion, “Saccharine “ in our opinion is exactly what the perfect indie-pop song should sound like. And… the absolute cherry on top of this sweet song is the amazing saxophone solo. We were so impressed by the saxophone which was brilliantly performed by New York City jazz saxophonist and Bjorkestra maestro Travis Sullivan, who through a magnetic sax performance brings a calm flair to the subtle yet dramatic track, enhancing its low-key dynamism.

“‘Saccharine’ is a song with a title that’s both sincere and sarcastic at the same time,” Abdelbarry says. “Call it a breakup song if you will – every album needs one – but the song reflects on a romance and the realization that things can start off pretty sweet but quickly turn sour if both people don’t put in the work to make a relationship last. The song chronicles the end of a relationship and the feelings of hurt, disrespect, and anger you can experience while still remembering the joyful moments.”

Exposed to music at a young age, Jaymz was susceptible to a variety of genres and artists such as Metallica, Lil Wayne, Twista and many more who started to shape the way he viewed and created music. Using influences from mainstream hip-hop, rap, R&B, underground Chicago hip hop and incorporating tones and beats from a wide array of genres, Jaymz has created a unique sound that represents him. In 2020, upon hitting a debilitating case of writers’ block, Jaymz flew to Brooklyn, NY to meet and write with producer/songwriter Natalie Shamoun, who helped shape his new era of creation and set him on a new musical path.

“I wrote this song one night while walking home. I had a fight with my significant other and I needed some time away,” said Jaymz in an interview with Sheen Magazine. “I feel like it was an embodiment of my stress, venting and being honest with myself. The world is cold. Music is my way to pass time and work through things. We as artists spend countless dollars and hours on ideas and journeys, and some go nowhere. But eventually everything will pay off in the end.”

Pen Pin Deliver Absolute Perfection With Latest Single “Fringe”

We recently had the amazing opportunity to check out indie pop duo Pen Pin and their latest single, “Fringe” .

Pen Pin is the new music project from songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Jeni Magana and Emily Moore. The duo met on tour with Mitski and have created a DIY musical project with the two playing almost all of the instruments on the album and self-producing it as well. Both are well known touring musicians with Emily Moore performing and touring alongside Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, Fun and Gracie Abrams (opening up the TaylorSwift Era’s tour) and Jeni Magana performing alongside Mitski, Ella Vos and more.

So like we’ve said in the past, we get a lot of music to listen too. (We’re a music blog it’s what we do) Some of the music we get is really good, and some of it is outstanding. “Fringe” from Pen Pin would definitely be classified as Outstanding.

Let us start off by saying that “Rumblin’ Tummy” is one those songs that is impossible not to like. Once those drums started at the beginning we were instantly hooked.

Frontwoman Logan Hammon describes “Rumblin’ Tummy” as a song about “staying in love and getting butterflies in your stomach no matter how long it’s been.” Appropriately, “Rumblin’ Tummy” is a fresh re-imagining of a fan-favorite from 2019, “Tummy Rumblin.” Just as the song’s romance has lasted the years, Small Crush built off the old track while injecting a fresh perspective, creating an entirely new and delightful sonic experience. We have been a big fan of Thomas Day, for a while and, his latest “Gravity” may be his best yet.

We absolutely love everything about The Atom Age, they have a vibe and sound that is so authentic and electric.

“It took a while for me to realize that you’re gonna drive yourself insane comparing other people’s success to your own. I think writing this song helped me figure that out,” said vocalist and guitarist Peter Niven about the track. The combination of electric vocals, fuzz-out riffs, and moody garage sludge gives the message a powerful base to stand on. The carefully-crafted catharsis that follows pays homage to the sound of decades past and establishes The Atom Age as garage-punk renaissance paragons.

The new single deftly displays The Atom Age’s songwriting prowesses and their meteoric energy. This is only reinforced in the music video where the band lets loose on a rooftop in between shots of Niven playing into the track’s criticism of the overly-serious and prescriptively boring. He dances for the camera, strikes a pose, and eventually finds himself donning a crown and royal mantle.

Peter Niven delivers raw, zealous vocals and guitar alongside guitarist Ryan Perras, drummer Tim Harman, saxophonist Brendan Frye, organist Fred Brott’s organ, and bassist Randy Moore. The sextet bring a groovy, brass-tinged perspective to rock and roll, resonant with sounds like The Hives, The Sonics, The Cramps, and Rocket From The Crypt.

We absolutely love the sound and vibe of Brian Tell And The LoveMakers it’s a modern sound with a throwback vibe to the garage band era in the 60’s Based in Austin, Texas, they take a direct, uncomplicated approach to songwriting that’s influenced by decades of rock, blues, and punk history. The result is a searing, style-bending sound that’s modern yet old school.

“Stand Out “ is an absolutely electric song with an addictive melody that you just can’t refuse . The band as a whole are solid unit with world class musicianship.

The band says, “Stand Out was the first material we all wrote together – essentially becoming a band and finding our sound. Max came up with a bass line, and we all joined in. We had played for months with my solo material, but this was the start of a new direction – and will continue with our upcoming releases”.

All former New Yorkers, the current line-up formed in Austin. The band consists of Brian Tell on vocals and guitar, Jason Desiderio on drums, Max Marschark on bass, and Stan Spring on lead guitar. Together, they’ve written Warm Weather Woman, Watching the News, and Stand Out. Recorded at the Ice Cream Factory, these songs were mixed by Dan Duszynski.

So full disclosure: We here at The Whole Kameese are huge fans of the band ALL (Heck during on our first interviews ever we were punk’d by the great Bill Stevenson of All/Descendents

So when we heard that there was a band who was making music in the vain of All…..

We had to check it out immediately. We were already fans of Mercy Music and Sharp Shock ( We love Sharp Shock’s cover of “Silly Girl “ by the Descendents). So we were super double pumped when we heard they will be releasing their debut album “Stop The World”due out Friday April 14th via Wiretap Records (US), Brassneck Records (UK) and Waterslide Records (Japan). Pre-Orders for the 12” LP vinyl are now live on the label’s websites.

And wait there’s more….. (Cue drum roll) To accompany the album announcement, the band has released another new single off the upcoming new record, a hyperactive punch in the face called “Alien”, streaming now on all platforms.

We were absolutely honored to check out Austin based shoegaze dark rock artist Lauren Lakis and her incredible new single “Take My Hand”

The single is about “forgetting what you thought you knew, letting go, bravely opening your mind to something radically different,” proclaims the songwriter, She further asks, “what if you were wrong? Are you able to admit it? Can you shift with the ever-changing landscape of reality, or are you stuck in your ways? I found myself stepping into the unknown in many ways the past few years, forced to entertain the notion that maybe I didn’t know everything, and in that I found freedom.”

Lauren Lakis has a uniqueness and originality to her sound that is just stunning. She is an artist who eloquently expresses herself not only through her lyrics but also through her carefully crafted melodies that have such beautiful tones that add another dimension to her music.

A new album, “A Fiesta and a Hell” was recorded in Austin, TX with Carey McGraw producing (Wild Child, Josie Lockhart), Elliott Frazier mixing (Ringo Deathstarr, Blushing), and Christopher Colbert (Mazzy Star, Starflyer 59, Leon Bridges) mastering. “A Fiesta and a Hell” will be released Fall 2023 with Green Witch Recordings.

Skofee Brings Complete Joy With Flawless New EP “Joyland”

Recently we checked out Los Angeles based indie pop singer /Songwriter Skofee and her brand new EP “Joyland”Named after an amusement park Skofee used to visit in Kansas, the six-track EP chronicles finding joy in various ways after falling out of touch with it.

We are not going pull any punches with this review. “Joyland” is an absolute musical triumph, from start to finish Skofee is simply amazing.

From the first track” “I’m Sorry I Killed Your Plant” the listener is treated to a brilliant song that is a total gem . We found ourselves completely mesmerized with this song .

“Mad At you “ was filled with a hypnotic beat that complimented the stunning vocals on this track. We found ourselves hitting repeat on this song multiple times …. A beautiful melodic composition.

“Quicksand” the song is “my ode to hitting a breaking point. It’s about the sinking realization that you have to let go of someone that you’ve been desperately trying to hold onto,” confides Skofee.

As we remarked in our original review…We love everything about this song . It has this dark but really interesting tone / vibe to it that really makes the track stand out . Oh and the vocals are just flawless.

The video for “Quicksand” is simply spectacular . The visuals, directed by Holy Smoke Photography, combines balloon people, a plexiglass box and Skofee floundering in a kiddie pool with a GoPro for a novel and imaginative take on dealing with tangled emotions. And what’s a video without balloon people?

“Wind Up Hero” was our introduction to Skofee, and boy were we impressed. We Love the vibe on this song , it has this energy to it that makes it such a memorable track ( Not to mention we break out into dance mode, when we hear it) .

In our opinion the shining star of the “Joyland” is the song “Easier” This song is absolutely gorgeous. “Easier” is Skofee at her absolute best , the vocals are just stunning perfect . You can really see what an amazing artist truly is, with this song.

The title track of the EP “Joyland” is another spectacular display of the amazing artistry of Skofee . We also love the beautiful musical orchestration on “ Joyland “ it was simply breathtaking.

“Joyland” is an excellent example of music done right. Skofee is a phenomenal artist who we can’t get enough of.

Housewife – the project of Toronto-based singer and songwriter Brighid Fry (She/They )

The new song reunites Fry with frequent co-writer and producer Gabe Simon (Lana Del Rey, Noah Kahan) in Nashville, TN and includes a co-write from fellow singer-songwriter Savana Santos.

We are absolutely over the moon with “Fuck Around Phase”is a perfectly written pop gem that is overflowing with originality. Beyond the stellar sonic melodic sound of “Fuck Around Phase” , the song stands out because it has this authenticity that you can’t fake . Brighid Fry aka Housewife is the real deal .

The Veils ….And Out Of The Void Came Love, Is A Magnificent Musical Achievement

We felt beyond privileged to check out the highly anticipated album “..And Out Of The Void Came Love”from English/New Zealand indie rock band The Veils fronted by singer/Songwriter Finn Andrews . The 15-track double album out via Ba Da Bing Records was seven years in the making following their acclaimed album Total Depravity.

Just by listening to this record, you can hear throughout the whole record how much of a labor of love this record is . We have never met Finn Andrews or the other fine musicians on this amazing album but, if we did we would extend out our hand and congratulate them on an absolutely magnificent record.

…And Out Of The Void Came Love….is an album intended to be listened to in two sittings with a short break in the middle. This record does a brilliant job of a presenting a diverse offering of rock music. Featuring expansive lush indie rock, to Americana dipped roucous tunes, and introspective slow-burned folk tunes, …And Out Of The Void Came Love is a spellbinding musical journey.

So we went and found a comfy spot , put on our headphones and began listening…. The first track “Time” is just the Perfect opening song it has such a timeless feel to it . We highly recommend checking out the amazing video that accompanies the song .

We were very taken with “Bullfighter (Hand Of God )” It has a very hymnal feeling . The percussion on the track stayed with us long after the track ended .

We found it very easy to connect with the songs on …And Out Of The Void Came Love… All of the songs have a way of touching the heart and soul.

One Song that really caught our attention on the record was “The Epoch “ The song has this haunting yet eclectic feel and sound to it, that you just can’t ignore . The vocals also have energy to them that are electric.

“Ring Of Saturn “ is such a beautifully constructed song but the star of this stunningly brilliant song , is the flawless vocals. We listened to this one for a while .

The orchestration of the album as a whole was simply breathtaking Composer Victoria Kelly’s soaring string arrangements play an integral role in bringing the songs to life, as do musicians Cass Basil (bass), Dan Raishbrook (lap steel, guitar), Liam Gerrard (piano), Joseph McCallum (drums) the NZTrio and special guests the Smoke Fairies on backing vocals.

As we moved on to the second half of this incredible musical achievement, we found ourselves like explorers ready to uncover musical treasures. We found a feeling of deep emotions with “Made From Love With Far To Go” That feeling of deep emotion continued with absolutely gorgeous melody “Someday My Love Will Come “

We loved the haunting appeal of “The Day I Meet My Murderer” We picture this song AA the perfect song around a campfire.

Some may say that making a meaningful record is a lost art . We would point to And Out Of The Void Came Love” from The Veils and that this record is more than a work of art .. but a masterpiece.

We have absolutely been loving Emily Breeze and her beyond amazing new record “Rapture” ( we put it in our day play list from day 1, and it hasn’t moved )

When we heard that Massive Attack’s Daddy G had prepared a club remix of ‘Confessions of an Ageing Party Girl’ from Emily Breeze …. We were simply elated.

Speaking about his decision to remix the single, Grant Marshall (Daddy G) explained, “I’ve always loved Emily Breeze’s music, not only is she a super talent but she is also from Bristol. When I asked her if I could remix one of her tracks I was chuffed when she agreed.”

Daddy G is the walking embodiment of the Bristol sound. The intersection of Dub Reggae, Hip Hop, Punk and Dance music which conjures images of dark dancefloors and inner city bedsits is something that has never really left Bristol and it was a thrill to hear my song “Confessions of an Ageing Party Girl” teleported into that space. I used to live on the same street as Daddy G and he would smile and wave from his Orange VW van. I would never have dreamed when I used to listen to Massive Attack as a teenager that one of the founding members alongside his amazing writing/production partner Stew Jackson (Robot Club) would remix one of my songs. It’s an honour,“ exclaims Emily.

The original single ‘Confessions of an Ageing Party Girl’ was taken from Emily’s second album ‘Rapture‘ which was released on February 10th 2023 via Sugar Shack Records.

We recently checked out German based singer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer M. Byrd and his magnificent new single “Outside Of Town”

We were absolutely moved when listened to “Outside Of Town “ which,was inspired by a friend who was displaced due to war, “Outside of Town” touches on the struggles of uncertainty and the pain of loss.

M. Byrd juxtaposes this with messages of hope heard in the atmospheric guitars and his impassioned vocals yearning for a better future.

“I wrote ‘Outside Of Town’ a few days after meeting a friend who had to flee from a war with his daughter. It tells his story in a fictional city that is surrounded by desert and war, sustaining itself with big walls and what little water they have left.” M. Byrd adds, “every time I play the song, it reminds me of how I admire people who are fighting for a better life for themselves and their families. All of us could be in the situation of having to look past the borders of our homes, and every one of us should play a part in helping the people who are willing to go through so much suffering to provide a safer place for their family and children.“

“Outside Of Town” follows the release of M. Byrd’s previous singles “Seed,” “Flood” and “Over You / Over Me”, all off his debut full-length album The Seed out June 16th.

The Abruptors Gives Us Total Ska Goodness With New Album “Noticeably Cheerless”

We promised ourselves we would be nice and calm with our review for Buffalo based The Abruptors and their new record “Noticeably Cheerless. But…. We pushed play and as soon as we heard the first track “Best Wishes And Warmest Regards “ we couldn’t contain our excitement. Truth be told we have been super psyched about this record for a while.

Even though “Best Wishes And Warmest Regards “ is a song about someone you are happy to see leave , it has a melody that is upbeat and fun . We love the Chris Graue directed video it’s wacky and extremely entertaining. You can watch below

We were instantly smitten with “The Selfish “ The Abruptors write insanely catchy songs that provide the perfect soundtrack to life.

Vocalist, saxophonist, and keyboardist, Toni LaMantia said about Noticeably Cheerless, “Heavy lyrics can transcend no matter what type of music you’re listening to. It’s all about how you shape it.”

If we had to pick a favorite track off of the new record ( Which is so hard !!!) It would have to be “ Waiting Forever “ We really felt a connection with this track . It truly is a record that you can listen from start to finish without skipping a single track . “Each track presents as a cameo which is an attempt at describing times when I have felt lost in the liminal spaces of bachelorhood or failing relationships. Though the lyrics take plenty of artistic liberties, the songs themselves are true experiences which serve as a record of my personal struggle to connect,” confides Rutherford Royal.

Every song on “Bleak” is a well crafted musical composition that showcases Rutherford Royal’s honest and authentic songwriting style . He writes Southern Gothic cameos which he weaves into often dark, Indie Americana. After writing and curating the works for an album he records and mixes the music for Rutherford Royal (as well as other artists) in his remote cabin studio overlooking a hidden waterfall in southern Tennessee.

We love the groove on “Let Me In “ The chorus is catchy and memorable. The vocal on “Let Me In “ is flawless .

The mysterious and somber groove on “Bleak “ fits perfectly with the haunting vocals convey the message of the song perfectly.

The very soulful “Lords and Ladies “ is Rutherford Royal at his absolute best . This song is an absolute gem.

“Keep It Between Us “ , “Summer Heat” and “Back Burner” are all magnificent songs that we have happily been keeping on repeat.

“Bleak” is a must listen for any music lover. Seeing how good the EP is we couldn’t help but wonder how amazing all these songs must sound live .

Wow talk about a great week.. After years of being the go-to photographer for New York’s favorite indie acts, Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary artist Carina Allen, aka rlyblonde, is taking her turn in the spotlight. She released her first single “Fantasy“ earlier this week, and she is back today to reveal the song’s official music video.

Directed by rlyblonde herself and filmmaker Jisun Lee, the “Fantasy” music video is a playful riff on The Bachelorette. “I find The Bachelor franchise to be the strangest, most ridiculous, most engrossing socially accepted cultural phenomenon on television,” she says. “How the hell do you really get to know someone in 10 minute intervals? How real is your relationship when you basically fabricated romance the entire time?”

Starring as America’s sweetheart, she confronts the ridiculous, over-the-top displays of femininity that women are expected to perform, especially in hetero dating culture. In contrast to the unrealistic whirlwind romances depicted on the show, the “Fantasy” video descends into chaos and concludes with the bachelorette becoming a runaway bride.

The video serves as a luxurious introduction not only to the audio-visual world of rlyblonde, but also to the capacity of her other upcoming venture, HOT CREATIVE, a fresh on the scene creative production company geared towards musicians like herself. Founded with a team of music-industry professionals along with a rock-solid freelance network, HOT CREATIVE aims to work hand-in-hand with artists to help build their own unique “fantasy worlds” for their music to live in.


rlyblonde will be celebrating the music video release tonight with her debut performance at Heaven Can Wait in New York City.

The band says, “”Hypothetically is not a love song. It is about the perils of love and the hope of love, but it’s not a love song. If, hypothetically, Hypothetically were a love song, it would probably closely resemble this song, but again, it’s not. If Hypothetically were a love song, it would be complicated like love, and moody and sentimental like love, which it is. But it’s not a love song, so don’t even think about it!”

When we first heard that Long Island,Ny based duo Jeremy Quitko and Travis Johnides better known as Bitters And Distractions were an acoustic duo who played punk rock , we were instantly intrigued

Bitters And Distractions play real honest to goodness punk rock that because it is done acoustically is perhaps the most organic and genuine form of punk we have ever heard . So we found our favorite music video watching spot and checked out the video for “Existentialism In A Car “ which you can watch for yourself below (Spoiler Alert: It’s freaking amazing)

First things first … “Existentialism In A Car” isn’t just a good song…. It’s a freaking Great song. “Existentialism In A Car “ is a brilliantly crafted smartly written song that has an undeniable energy that you can’t ignore.

Style wise Bitters And Distractions remind us very much of Celtic punk in the vein of bands like The Dropkick Murphys and The Rumjacks . They play music that makes you want to raise pint and dance your heart out .

Bitters And Distractions represent everything that is good about music. It’s two guys who absolutely love making music . The song is so catchy that we can neither confirm nor deny but…we have sung the chorus at the top of our lungs while in drop off line at our kid’s school.

As for the video, we love everything about it especially the DIY spirit of this video . The guys looked like they were having a total blast .
