As tough as the pandemic was for everyone, we have seen many musicians who use the pandemic to work on various musical projects. For Chris Urriola, it inspired a debut solo EP. The Hollis Brown bassist has always had a knack for “writing songs and finding melodies everywhere,” and has now allowed his songwriting to develop in this defining moment of his burgeoning solo career. The result is the Illustrator EP.

Knowing it was time to take the leap from bass player to front man, Urriola began forming his band. It’s never easy to ask anyone for anything, at least for me,” he says. “So getting a surprising yes from my best mates was addictive.”

We were immediately captivated with first track “Cintro” , the track has this very cinematic feel to it . Vocally we heard shades of Bowie , this was the perfect opening track .

We loved the groove and melody on “Oh No” There is this very haunting vibe on “Oh No” that really gave the track a whole new dimension.

The cinematic vibe continues with the heartfelt “I Miss You” We could really feel the emotion and passion in the stunning vocal performance on “I Miss You “We definitely revisited this track several times

It is always hard to pick a favorite track , especially with such a collection of amazing songs. However, our favorite without question is “On” . We were drawn by the haunting new wave feel with this track (We must confess we were singing this one long after music ended ).

The Illustrator EP is an absolutely wonderful collection of well written and crafted songs . Chris Urriola acts as a master painter giving us a magnificent musical masterpiece.
